Using iTunes when MacBook is closed

okay, so basically I wanna know if anyone found a way to keep iTunes playing when you close the MacBook. I know for myself, I like to listen to music while studying but don't want my laptop open or it'll distract me. Any suggestions for keeping iTunes playing?

Some random ideas:
1. Turn off the display altogether, or put it to sleep (System Preferences, Energy Saver), leaving lid up
2. Plug in computer, set up to operate in clamshell mode, and turn of external display
3. Use an iPod

The sound input going to the mic is not going to pipe through the speakers like that.  It doesn't do it because it would cause a feedback loop on itself.  The mic input will take sound and output it to a program or to another pathway (like a VoIP or Facetime call, etc.) but it won't behave like a Karaoke machine if that's what you're thinking.

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>
    About=>Carrier?

  • Problem(s) using iTunes on macbook... Help me out...

    Guyz!!!
    I'm new to Mac.
I've a (infat many)problem using iTunes ... or rather i dunno using it.
    1) I've copied my music folders into a location on the harddisk of my mac.
that has copied fine, however when i double click them... they are just playing using iTunes which inturn adding this song to the library, where i suspect it is making another copy in the "itunes music" folder.
i want to get rid of this...
thr is noway that we can avoid this... do we HAVE to copy the songs in the "itunes music" folder???
similarly... even if i play a song from ny USB drive which i connect to my macbook,,, it is copying the trac into library... i dont want that to happen...suggest me something... this itunes is eating my harddisk.
    2) i'm using an application "Senuti" to pull the songs off my ipod to my macbook. It worked fine for 2-3 albums... but then it's acting strange... it's not copying the songs to the location i refered... it is just copying the songs into the itunes music folder. it really is annoying.
I just want the songs albumwise in the harddisk as well as in the itunes library... is dat possible at all? if it is.. how?? if it is not..then what is the solution for my problem.
    3) i've copied some movies onto the hard disk. and i want them to appear in the list while using "Front row"... how do i get them in the list?? do i have to import them into iTunes??? where in iTunes will again copy the movies into the itunes music folder and eats up all the space what i have...uffff....
    Just help me guyz please...
any help wud be really a big help to me...
    Regards,
    Ajith.

    *First, there's an itunes forum.*
    first, i did post there.
*Second, go through the preferences. You set stuff like whether music copies in preferences.*
it'd be helpful if u let me know the preferences settings.
*Third, a problem with Senuti, which is a pretty cool app, is something you should check into with them.*
I did not find ny exclusive forums for that, n wondering if i get ny solution here n posted.
*Fourth, your movies should appear in iTunes. Try dropping them on the itunes icon.*
thnx for that... ill try this... but would it make a copy in "itunes folder" again??

  • Can I use itunes when I am separated from my media drive

I currently keep my itunes media on a Time Capsule at home.  I have two questions really...
--every time I open itunes I have to re-locate my itunes library file (which is located on the Time Capsule).  An annoying step, but not the end of the world.  Is there a way around this?  Can I keep the library file on my computer while the actual media is on the external drive?
--which leads to the next question: is there a way to open and use itunes on my laptop when I am separated from my media drive (accessing the items I have on icloud)?  Whenever I am separated from the media drive I don't have access to the aforementioned library file and I have been afraid to click on 'create a new library' or to move the file.  Is there a way to safely open itunes and access whatever media I can access from icloud?
    Thanks so much community!

The reason this is happening is your Time Capsule is not fully mounted before starting iTunes.  If you put your library files on the computer iTunes will find the library but then all your media will show as broken links.  If you then mount your TC the media will still show as broken but if you play one it will have a second look and find -- just that one.
Again, you can use a library with broken links as long as it doesn't irk you.I don't, however, think iCloud is a solution.  Usually it will react to broken links by thinking you still have the file on your computer.  It is usually necessary to completely delete a broken link entry in iTunes to get iTunes to re-download a track (and then it won't know you have it on your TC when you reconnect there), and a computer won't stream music from the cloud servers.
Basically iTunes has limitations and no ideal solutions have been found for huge libraries and small drives that computers have these days by comparison.

  • ATV not reading Home Shared iTunes when MacBook clamshell is closed

Perhaps it's not possible, but the guy at the Apple Store seemed to think it was.
I run OS X 10.6.6, iTunes 10.2.1, and have an Apple TV 2nd generation. My iTunes Library is on a Wi-Fi network drive (via Airport). Home Sharing was set up with no problem.
My MacBook's energy settings are set thusly: Computer sleep: Never; Wake for Ethernet network access: checked.
However, when I close the cover on my MacBook, my iTunes Library disappears on my Apple TV.
I can handle leaving the laptop open while listening to music and such. But if I could close it, I'd rather.

I use a MacBook Pro at work, hooked up to an Apple Cinema display. Not sure of its settings, but I can close the MBP and use the external mouse and/or keyboard to wake the computer up. Figured something like that should work here. And, like I said, the Apple Store guy seemed to think it would if, his words, I was running Snow Leopard.

  • Gap is slightly larger on right side when macbook is closed....normal or not normal???

gap on right side a little bigger than left when closed...anyone else have this problem....2011 macbook pro

If you sell it to someone, and you take twenty minutes pointing out that "gaping flaw!", they buyer will just say "Cool, a Mac!", pay you the money, and ignore your "gaping fault".
You might want to do that, and use the proceeds to buy another that will not have the "gaping flaw".
Please stop posting whether you keep it or sell it.

  • Music on external drive but want to use itunes when drive is not connected.  How?

I used to be able to do this, but can't remember how it was set up.  I have my music on an external drive, but I don't want to have to plug it in everytime I want to access iTunes to use the store or look for apps.

I have already turned on iCloud Photo Library and it works just fine for my iPhone. BUT, what I want is for it work on my main machine, the macBook Air. I do NOT have an iMac or other to store the "system" Photos library. I do Not have room on my internal drive for the macBook Air ("system" library is located on an external drive). I don't want to have to lug that 3 TB drive with me. It also will not let me move the library file. The library file is close to 40 Gbytes and I have less than 20 left on my internal drive (and I don't dare let it get much smaller than this)....
Any ideas as to how to do this?
For my iTunes library, I ran into a similar issue, but I simply started a new library and dragged the files (on my external drive) into iTunes. This told iTunes where they were without copying them to the internal drive.
I would think something similar should work with Photos, but I don't know how to do it.

  • How can I use iTunes when my library is somewhere else?

Sounds like a dumb question, I know. But here it goes.
I just put my whole iTunes library on an external FW drive and symlinked to it in my music folder.
I love having the extra space on my PowerBook, and I rarely listen to music on my PB when I'm away from my desk.
One problem, though. If I try to listen to an MP3 feed (Shoutcast) without my FW drive, iTunes launches, but it won't continue because it can't find the library.
So is there any solution to this? I guess I'd have to use QuickTime Player for those streams when I don't have my library attached?
Thanks for any ideas or solutions.

Hmm - OK.  Thanks. I've tried but can't figure out how.  If you have any descriptions of how to do this, please send.  Or, am I over-thinking it?  It's not working for me.
    Thanks again!!

  • Home wifi crashes after using iTunes on macbook pro

    Equipment:
    Wifi Network
Airplay connected to home speaker system
    Macbook Pro - OX x 10.8.2 running iTunes Version 11 (64 bit)
    iPhone 4S with 6.0.1 (10A523)
    iPad with 6.0.1
When I open iTunes on my MBP, my home wifi network crashes.  None of my wifi devices can connect to the internet when this happens.  The "fix" is to reboot my cable model and wifi router... and to get out of iTunes on the MBP.  If I open iTunes on the MBP, then reset the crashed router, I try to play via AirPlay the music from my library over my home speakers.  It will play for awhile - then it will drop -- sometimes it will "fix" itself -- sometimes I have to reset the router again to get the music to play.
I typically have better luck playing my iTunes playlist from my iPad - however this has been crashing my wifi network off and on tonight too.  I enjoy listening to my Christmas music - and this is frustrating that it crashes the network so I can't work on other stuff online while listening to my music.
Any thoughts on possible solutions are welcome!

Download the full itunes 10.5.3 installer and reinstall.
Reboot in Safe Mode (hold down shift after chime), to rebuild caches, reboot again.
If problems persist check /Applications/Utilities/Console note the time of the hang and see if any errors occur at that time.
And most importantly: Don't post your off-topic issue off in other threads.

  • Help using ITunes when offline

The system that I use for ITunes at work is offline. I have my itunes libary on it and when I try to send music to the ipod it continually tries to go online-- password window opens up. I cannot click on one song without it popping up and I have to cancel it. How do I have ITunes recognize my use offline?

Although the following article focusses upon using music in podcasts, the same restrictions apply to websites:

  • Override Airport Shut down when MacBook is closed

I am very new to Macs and their operation which is frustrating to say the least considering the fact that I am an IT person specializing in Windows based environments.
Anyway is there a way to keep an active LAN connection via Airport when a MacBook Pro is closed but still powered on? I've looked every where but cant seem to find a way to override this setting.
In other words I would like to be able to close my MacBook but not have it "go to sleep" or shut down the airport which in turns terminated all active internet and remote desktop connections.
    Thanks,
    Mike

When you close the lid on an MBP it goes to sleep by default. There is nothing left running to maintain the internet connection. PC laptops work the same way.
There is a "clamshell" mode when an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse are connected that may be what you are looking for.

  • Anyone else have uneven lid when macbook is closed???

when i close my macbook the is raised a tad more on the right side than the left.....it is raised maybe a millimeter more than the left side....anyone else have this probelm and know how to fix it??

I would however, plan on buying AppleCare before the year runs out.
AppleCare is something many people buy, even if they never have a problem with that unit or any units in the past.
I am not trying to scare you into thinking it will break.  Just saying that the $350 is something *I* plan on buying even though I hve seen no problems with mine.  I just consider it a form of "insurance against manufacturing defects for 2 additional years".

  • How do i delete songs using iTunes from macbook pro

i synced my iphones to a new i tunes library and now i have three unwated songs how do i delete them?

"Ok- but what if I want to manually manage the songs and podcasts on my iPhone and somehow loose access to the computer which I used to put said songs and podcasts on the iPhone in the first place?"
The you would ned to use the backup copy of tht computer to put everything on the new computer.
"  Is there a way in which I can manage/delete the content on the iPhone using my new computer without retoring it to factory settings and starting all over again?"
You do not have to restore it, but you cannot access the music at all from this other computer until you sync it, which will erase the content.
"And just to clarify: I don't have any problems with playing the content that remains on my iPhone, it's just the managing and deleting of this content."
    I understand completely.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
