Using iWeb from a PC

Is it possible to use iWeb from a PC? Would like non-Mac colleagues to be able to access and amend website made on iWeb. Thanks for any help.

No.
Would like non-Mac colleagues to be able to access and amend website made on iWeb.
Publish to a folder and then use an HTML editor to modify the files. The modified items can't be imported back into iWeb.

  • Updating iWeb from different computer or internet

...is a free, cross-platform, remote desktop system that you can use to access your Mac from almost any system. You could email your photos home, log in to LogMeIn, open iWeb and post blog entries & pictures remotely via your home system.
    And with FarFinder:
...you can "access your Mac with a browser or iPhone."
And here are a couple of links about using iWeb from two computers:

  • Can I update a blog created in iWeb from another computer?

    Hello Forum,
While I am away from my office base, I would like to update my blog (created using iWeb) from another computer. I have a dotmac account.
I thought doing this should pose no problems, but I simply can't figure it out.....
Hope someone can help me out on this one.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Greg

When you go to .mac and log in, you should see stories there regarding the features of .mac. One of the recent ones (should still be on the front page) is Tech note: Using iWeb on more than one Mac
    Underneath this header, you'll find
"All you need to do is quit iWeb (if it’s open), locate the domain.sites file (Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites), and move it to wherever you’re going to use it. Then double-click the file in its new location. iWeb will launch, and you’re done. From then on, iWeb will automatically save your work in the new location, and you’ll be able to publish your site from any Mac that has access to it.
So, if your domain.sites is small enough to fit on your iDisk, you could keep a copy there and use it from any computer that has iWeb 1.1 or later installed to update your blog.

  • Use video from Web Gallery in iWeb

    Hi,
do anyone using video from Web Gallery in iWeb? will it a better way than just drag and drop from the Media itself?

The following thread is about someone who started out with his videos in iWeb itself, but later found it better to instead link to a MobileMe Gallery — read particularly his last post here:
    _Casting Director needs advice_
And in reply to one of your threads, I indicated how much faster a video displays from MobileMe Gallery than it does from iWeb:
_My Web Video loading slower than Youtube (same file size)_

  • Can I move my iWeb from mac-mini to my new macbook pro ? iLife 11 does not have iWeb and I really want to use it to update my website on my new macbook Pro instead of Mac mini

Can I move my iWeb from mac-mini to my new macbook pro ? iLife 11 does not have iWeb and I really want to use it to update my website on my new macbook Pro instead of Mac mini

There is no license required for iWeb.  Just do a Wyodor suggested and you'll be ready to go. If you're running Lion however, consider the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • How can I Publish to a Folder just one of the several websites I have created using iWeb?

How can I Publish to a Folder just one of the several websites I have created using iWeb?
it drives me nuts having to emove all the other websites when I want to upload one.
    Sparrow

For iWeb, I like to do only one site per domain file.  I move domain files out of the Application Support folder and place them inside project or client folders, or in DropBox. Once you duplicate a domain file and begin customizing it, it will load and behave as a separate project/site.
I publish each iWeb domain/project direct to a server via FTP. Sometime I publish to a folder, then upload via FTP manually.
iWeb is a remarkable tool, especially when you work from scratch with blank tamplates

  • Error Publishing Podcast to ITunes using IWeb

I am getting the following error publishing my podcast to Itunes using Iweb.
We had difficulty reading this feed. Bad http result code: 500
When I checked the rss.xml doc that iweb generates, it is very different from what itunes gives as an example. Do you guys plan on making your software match to the Itunes requirements so that it will post. I can edit and upload the xml file, but when iweb publishes again it will simply change it back to the wrong file.
Is there an update coming? What should I do?

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems that from GarageBand the only podcast option is to send it to iWeb. The option exists: "send song" to iTunes, but not "send podcast" directly to iTunes. I don't know if there's a meaningful difference between "song" and "podcast," but I've decided to wait.
I contacted Apple (apparently I haven't yet exhausted my free tech-support options since the purchase of this MacBookPro) and was told that the problem is most likely with iTunes. We'll see what the iTunes team has to say...
Further info I've learned: the audio podcast episode somehow got converted to a ".mov" file somewhere along it's path from being created in GarageBand to it's submission to iTunes. This is still a mystery to me as I specifically chose "MP3" when sending the episode from GarageBand to iWeb. Apple tech-support has passed me along the chain to the iTunes folks who only do tech support via email. So we'll see...

  • Using iWeb on a different Mac for the same website?

I designed, published and am regularly updating a site using iWeb on my iMac at home. A friend is going to help me with the design, and he will be doing the work from his Mac at home.
How do I do this? Is there a particular folder I need to give him that has the files that iweb uses to publish the site? And once his work is done, do I transfer the new files back to my iMac?
    thanks!

Is there a particular folder I need to give him that has the files that iweb uses to publish the site?
It's ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/, where ~ is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.
And once his work is done, do I transfer the new files back to my iMac?
Yes. A Domain package can be opened in iWeb regardless of its location by double-clicking it in the Finder.

  • Using iWeb to Share Videos among a group.

I have a website that I created for a group using iWeb '09 that is hosted by mobileme.
Part of the site features quicktime movies I have uploaded to the site to share with the group, and I would like to enable other group members to post qt videos on the site as well. What's the easiest way to do this?
Is there another way besides having people send the videos to me and having me put them up via iWeb?
I'd like to be able for people to post some text along with each video, from their own location not my host computer. Is there a way for people to add videos to one of my webpages?

    Bruce:
You could create a MobileMe gallery in iPhoto, permit visitors to add to it and then embed the MMe gallery in your web page like this: MobileMe Galleries and Quicktime Movies.
If you have more than one MobileMe gallery and don't want visitors to have access to all of them just set the movie gallery's Settings as shown in this screenshot:

  • Can I stop iWeb from putting a page name at the top?

I don't want page names across the top in iWeb. I have a list of hyperlinked icons on the side for that.
Can anyone tell me how to stop iWeb from putting the page name on the page?
    Thanks.

The script is for the text in the browser title bar.
The title is taken from the large textbox at the top of each webpage.
If that box is missing or empty, iWeb uses a next textbox for the title.
If that is missing too, the pagename is used for the title.
If you want the title in the titlebar but not the large textbox on your page, select the textbox, do Cm-T and drag the font-size slider to the bottom.
Then click the color next to the T-icon and drag that opacity slider to the left (0).
Then resize the textbox to it minimun size and drag it out of view. And don't forget you did.
But I think the OP means the navigation links at the top.

  • I've lost my website and i don't know how to use Iweb... Help!!

So i made a website a few years back using Iweb and Fasthosts as the host. Except someone else did the set up so i know very little about that. A few weeks ago my internal hard drive burnt out so i lost all my applications including iweb which had my website info.
So my question is, how do i regain access to my site using my new iweb? Even if its just to take it down and start again! The site is still live but i cant seem to connect to it with my new iweb... Any help would be very much apprechiated!!!!!

i lost all my applications including iweb which had my website info.
The iWeb applicaiton does not keep any of the files used to create your website.  It uses a file titled domain.sites to keep all of the website files together for publishing. If you doin't have a copy of that domain file you will have to start over from scratch to recreate your website.
Since MobileMe will be discontinued at the end of June 30th of this year you will have to obtain a new hosting service.  With that in mind I suggest you obtain iWeb 3 so you can publish directly to an ftp server.  Apple is no longer supporting iDVD nor offering it for sale.  You can get it by purcdhasing the boxed disk version of iLife 09 or iLife 11.  Here in the US it can be purchased thru Amazon.com: ilife 11

  • HT4686 How can I publish my website developed using iWeb and have all functions of the blog page work as it did with MobileMe?

I have developed a website using iWeb and it includes a blog page selected from stock pages in iWeb.  I'm publishing it with GoDaddy and when I do that the interactive functions of the blog page don't work. (Adding comments and photos as well as searching).  Is there any simple way to host this site somewhere so that those functions work?

No, because all those functions were MobileMe only and now that MobileMe has gone, they won't function any longer.
To enable these to function, you either need to add them yourself or change your blogging platform to something else such as WordPress etc., and create a link from iWeb to your WordPress blog or embed the blog page using iframe into your iWeb site.
Commenting systems such as Disqus or http://www.intensedebate.com work quite well.

iWeb has two other ways to publish your site...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... and the second method allows you a choice of how you upload the files...

    Here's a publishing workflow checklist...

The MobileMe only features can be replaced by alternatives...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Comments-Password-Protect.html
If you have folders of assets outside of the main website folder on MobileMe, download them from the Apple server. From the Finder Go menu, follow the path iDisk/My iDisk/ to get there. Your website files are in the Web/Sites folder. Drag any files/folders onto the desktop.
Use an FTP application to upload these assets to the root folder on your new server...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Upload.html
...and change the relevant URLs to...
    http://www.domain-name.com/Folder-Name/file-name.file-extension
There are lots of options for hosting for about half the cost of MobileMe...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Website-Hosting.html
If you have been using a web.me.com domain name, you need to register a new one. Most hosting services give you at least one free and registering with your hosting company will make forwarding and managing it a lot easier.
Make sure you add the new name to Google and create, upload and enter a new sitemap.xml...

  • Slow Slow Slow page loading times using Iweb......

I used Iweb to create a photo gallery / web site and it loads very slow...I expect the images to load slowly but even the text hangs up a bit. It is worse on IE and the layout is messed up on Firefox....is there a way to make a website created on I-web uniform for all browsers and of course load and unload faster? I have cut my image files down in half ...they are about 400-600 kB (JPG) each but they still load slow...not to mention an annoying white block where the image and text is loading?? Any help from a seasoned I-web vet?
