Using iWeb to create a site for another .Mac family pack user

I started a new site in iWeb for our son today, but I can't see how to upload it so it resides in his part of the family account we have on .mac.
Is this possible?
If not, if I publish his pages how does it interact with our main family site that is currently uploaded.

But with two sites in iWeb now, what will end up on my son's part of the site when I hit publish? Should I try to keep changes to just one site or the other and do the user ID switch, or will it try to post all the pages to each account?

  • Can I create & publish site for another .Mac user?

My wife is a .Mac member and I piggybacked a .Mac e-mail address through her account. Now I'm trying to help my father, a recent Mac convert and .Mac member, by creating a website for him with my version of iWeb 08. When I open iWeb on my computer (first time as I've always used Dreamweaver to create websites), I'm locked out of pretty much everything (I'm assuming because I'm not a full .Mac member which it's somehow linking to). If I have my father's .Mac info, can I create a site for him and upload it for him on my computer, and if so, how would I do this?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    ~Chris

All you need to do to post to his .Mac account is find out what his .Mac username and password are and input them into the .Mac pane of System Preferences. That will give iWeb access to his .Mac space. If you end up getting your own .Mac at a later time, you will have to change that info in System Prefs.
I created a separate user on my computer for a 2nd website that I publish for my church. That way I keep all the iWeb and .Mac account info separate without having to jump through any hoops - I just have to switch users.

  • IWEB to create a site for online purchasing

I have a friend that sells old books, and want to set up a web site to do this online, would you say that this is slightly ambitious for an iWEB based development , i.e. how do you manage a small data base ? provide search functions and actually handle the payments side of the transaction ?
    thx
    John

You can integrate PayPal into iWeb. It means that you would have to go and set up a PayPal business account and then use the PayPal logo on your site, then list the books for sale and people would click on purchase and go and pay straight away via PayPal.
Your other option is to create a shopping cart separately and then link to it from your website, so people can then purchase the books.
You can have databases, but this means that you would have to publish your site to an external server at GoDaddy and it also means registering a domain name too.
Your other option of course is not to use iWeb at all and go for something like http://www.weebly.com. You can create a site online and I think you can integrate a shopping cart into this.
If you already have a domain name and hosting, your other alternative is to use something like Drupal, which is a content management system, where you can have databases and there is also a shopping cart module that you can install. This might be a better way to go, but it can be quite a steep learning curve.

  • Need help for creating sharepoint sites for both internet and intranet users

We would like to know what is the best approach to create SharePoint sites for our customers(internet users) and internal employees(intranet users) on the same SharePoint server. Here is the scenario:
    1) A customer posts a document from internet.
    2) This triggers a approval workflow that can only be accessed and executed in the intranet environment. This approval process requires approval's possible modifications to the customer's document.
    3) We would like the customer not to able to check the approval state and the modified document until the document is fully approved and finalized.
We are pondering if we need to create two sites, one site for customer and the other site is for internal approvers. Or one site is possible. It also looks like we need to somehow copy customer's original document to intranet site and triggers the workflow.
Any design ideas are helpful. Thank you advance!

    Hi Jason,
Though it is perfectly possible to have both intranet and internet on the server, it is not a recommended practice. Having both on the same server would have multiple problems, instead me detailing it out, here is a forum thread on which Trevor had given
    enough reasons -
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/9b550c33-6f5f-4cd9-8762-8ff389b747d9/sharepoint-2013-one-farm-to-host-intranet-extranet-internet?forum=sharepointadmin
If you have valid reason to go with single server, then you can also explore email enabled lists as one option and another one would be using custom sharepoint designer workflow.
you can also try using event receivers to send documents to intranet site from internet site, process everything and update the document in the internet site.
    Hope this helps!

  • PLEASE HELP!! I've used iWeb to create multiple sites, all published to third party servers.  The very last site I made changes to is showing up in any domain file I open - despite their different names and locations on my iMac.  I just switched to Lion.

Please HELP!!  I just switched to Lion.  I have created multiple websites using iWeb  3.0.4 and despite my having saved their 'domain' files in various locations and using different filenames, upon opening the domain files I keep getting the very last site I published.  All the sites were published to third party servers.  The domain files (still have a preview that look correct and have different file sizes) but keep going back to the last site published. HELP ME PLEASE!! Are the old files still available?!!

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Using the Template of one site for another site.

    Hi,
I have created and published Site A using a template (DW CS4).  I now wish to create Site B and use the same template from the Site A.
The only thing which will change is the banner which I create in Photoshop for each site.
I also wish to use the navigation buttons which were part of Site A's template. Can this be done?
One note: all the files from Site A have been copied into Site B.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Frank

One note: all the files from Site A have been copied into Site B.
Including the template? If so, then blast ahead. Things should work fine.

  • Help!  Need to use iWeb web asite as site for url

I need to make my iweb web site become the web site for my company www.tailormadeevent.com. I contacted my hosting company for the cname and they told me I would have to authorize an ftp transfer. I am totally confused and cannot even find an ask a question section on the support site. Someone please help!
    Thank you,
    M

You have to contact the company who you registered your domain name with and ask them to transfer that name to the server that you upload your website files to.
I would call this a domain name transfer.

  • Using iWeb to create a site uploaded to another domain via Fetch or the lik

I'm sorry for the like subject line, but I don't know what to call what I'm looking for.
I create my website in iWeb, publish to a folder, put it up on my personal domain using Fetch. (www.cynfrank.com) My domain is hosted by a company called Vario.
My question is how do I add things like a feed from my LibraryThing account that features books from my library on my site? It gives me an HTML code, but I don't know where to put it in iWeb so it works. When I got this same type of code for a video I was posting in a blog entry, I simply dragged and dropped it on my iWeb page, published, put and it worked. It was like magic. Maybe I'll try it.
Also, how do I put iTunes playlists on my site? Drag and Drop as well?
    CindyLoo

Thanks for the quick reply. However, after I posted, I was playing around in iWed and stumbled onto the Widget and suddenly, like magic, it dawned on me what it does.
As for the iTunes playlist....just drag and drop. It's like magic! But then isn't that the standard us MacUser have come to expect from our computers?
    Thanks again.

  • I published a website using iWeb.  I began using iWeb to create a second site and now I can't find my original site's work on my Mac.

I published a website using iWeb.  I began using iWeb to create a second site and now I can't find my original site's work on my Mac.

If you're publishing directly from iWeb 3 to your FTP server then you'll have the following in your accounts root directory:
    Site 1 folder
    Site 2 folder
    Site 3 folder
index.html file from last published site directling to the last published site.
If you want to keep Site 1 as the primary site you'll need to publish it one more time to the server so you get it's index.html file uploaded.
Now you'll have to publish Sites 2 and 3 to a folder on the hard drive and use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck, YummyLite or Transmit  to upload only the site folder (and not its external index.html file with it).
The url to sites 2 and 3 will be:
    http://doman_name.com/Site 2
    http://doman_name.com/Site 3

  • How can I use iWeb to create website that contains a lot of downloadable audio files?

    Hi
How to use iWeb to create a website that contains a downloadable audio files.  I'm uloading about 15 GB of audio files.  I need to creat folders "albums" and then put the files in these folders.   Any advise?
Thank you very much for your time to this
    W B

The important thing is not to put the audio files directly into iWeb: if you do that then every time iWeb decides it needs to upload the entire site you will find yourself uploading all 15GB of audio files, which won't make you happy. Start by uploading the files to the server - in folders as suits you - and then link to them in iWeb.
If you want them to download rather than play, you may be able to set up an .'htaccess' file in the folder which will force a download - it depends on whether your hosting service will allow this. The method is described here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/missing/download.html
Here is an example of a simple link which produces a download (without the process described the audio file would play in the browser in a blank page):
    http://rfwilmut.net/stars/dawson2.mp3
Then all you need to do is to provide a link, designed however suits you, in your iWeb page. If your server won't allow the .htaccess file then you will have to ask visitors to control-click (Mac) or right-click (Windows) on the link and choose 'Download linked file' or equivalent - not so convenient; or otherwise zip the files first, which won't much reduce their size but will force a download (and of course the recipients will have to unzip them).
If you want the files to play in a player in the page, you can use an html snippet to provide a player as described in this page (you will also need to upload a script to the webspace - this is provided in the page):

  • Can I use iWeb to create a website with visitor purchasing options?

I'm wondering if it's possible to use iWeb to create and publish a website for a small business like mine where visitors to the site can select items and have the option to make credit card purchases from the site. Obviously all the security for online purchasing would need to be there also. Is iWeb capable of that or does Apple offer a different web page software that can do this?
Thanks to anyone who can help,
    jburkett

Welcome to the discussions. Not natively.
...or does Apple offer a different web page software that can do this?
As far as I know, Apple has no s/w offerings of that sort. Bear this in mind when considering e-commerce and the MobileMe Service:
“The Service is designed for personal individual use and is not intended to be used for commercial business purposes, including, but not limited to, transacting online sales or software distribution via an e-commerce site.”
...Quoted from the MobileMe Terms of Service. PayPal buttons can be inserted into iWeb pages via the HTML Snippet window — but you may want to consider more complete alternatives such as this:
    http://blog.weebly.com/2/post/2009/05/announcing-weebly-e-commerce-features.html
...You could hyperlink from iWeb to your "shop" there and there's even a way to hyperlink to it from iWeb's navigation bar.

  • Downloaded mavericks for one mac can i use the same download to install on another mac

I have downloaded for 12 hours initial installation on one mac for mavericks, and all installed successfully. Rather than download again for another mac, can I use the same download and copy on to the other mac..and if yes, where will I find it?

All you need to do is go to System Preferences > App Store and uncheck the automatic install of updates box, then download the Mavericks installer, and copy to a flash drive.  You will need a flash drive of 8 G B or more since the installer is around 5.3 GB.  The installer will be in Finder > Applications.  You can then copy that flash drive installer to the Applications folders in all the Macs you have that are capable of running Mavericks, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842.
When the installer runs, the last step in the installtion is for the installer to erase itself.  So makng a copy before the installer runs is essential if you want to avoid redownloading.
Installing from the same installer does not cause problems for Macs on the same network.

How to export an iweb site to another mac?

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ as the path, and move iWeb's domain package as desired.

  • My URL has been duplicated since moving my site from another Mac

When I originally made my company site it was just a normal www.website.com and thats how it appeared in the address bar.  I then moved the site to another Mac (cant quite remember the steps I used) and did some updates to it and republished it and now it appears as www.website.com/WebSite.com/Home.html.  Nothing has changed with my hosting company or anything like that.  It literally changed just from moving it to anoter computer which is why I suspect that something happened with the folders or something with iWeb.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You want to have your cake and eat it too?
Well, you have to choose. Do it the iWeb way, the situation you have now, or your way, publish to a folder and upload the content of that folder to the server.
    As it was before.
    You can't have both.
    BUT.
As always, there still is a way to eat the cake.
    Read this :
    http://blog.wyodor.net/2011/08/avoiding-then-iweb-sitename-in-url.html
It works. I know, I baked the cake.
    You choose.
