Using iWeb to publish to two sites separately

Here's my situation: I purchased a Family Pack .mac so I get 5 sites. I will use one for my own use, my wife will use one, and my son will use one.
We would like to use one of the two remaining accounts primarily to put up a website for a friend of ours who is working as a missionary in Africa.
So on my wife's computer, we want to use iWeb to build two sites, publish one in one .mac account and publish the other in another .mac account.
So far iWeb keeps publishing them in the same account.
Any ideas?

The easiest thing for you to do would be to create a separate account on your wife's computer for this additional .Mac account that you wish to publish to. You can add this System account under System Preferences>Accounts. Then log into this account and add the additional .Mac information into the System Preferences there. Launch iWeb and create your page. When you publish, it will be published using the extra .Mac account.
This way...no juggling of Domain files. No switching back and forth of .Mac account information. Just log into the separate account to edit and publish this separate website on this .Mac account. Then your wife can log back into her own account to edit her own websites. Easy.

  • Using iWeb to Publish to Google Sites

Does anybody know if you can publish a site created with iWeb to Google Sites?
I use me.com so i've never had the need for this and for anything else i use the iWeb FTP function.
I have no experience with google Sites.
I have a friend who cant afford to use me.com and is using the free google sites.
Is there a known work around?
    Plug In?
    Any Advice will be great!
    Thanks

I have never heard of a server free or otherwise that does not accept uploads via ftp?
There are plenty of other free hosts around - why not suggest to your friend that they find one and sign up for an account and use one that will accept upload via ftp?
Surely a lot simpler than wasting a lot of your time having to write code to make it work!!

I published a website using iWeb.  I began using iWeb to create a second site and now I can't find my original site's work on my Mac.

If you're publishing directly from iWeb 3 to your FTP server then you'll have the following in your accounts root directory:
    Site 1 folder
    Site 2 folder
    Site 3 folder
index.html file from last published site directling to the last published site.
If you want to keep Site 1 as the primary site you'll need to publish it one more time to the server so you get it's index.html file uploaded.
Now you'll have to publish Sites 2 and 3 to a folder on the hard drive and use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck, YummyLite or Transmit  to upload only the site folder (and not its external index.html file with it).
The url to sites 2 and 3 will be:
    http://doman_name.com/Site 2
    http://doman_name.com/Site 3

  • Using iWeb for a persoanl web site.

    Hi everyone
I have used iWeb to create a web site to upload to my .mac account before and its really easy.
Now my question is, can I create a web site with iWeb but upload it to a web site of my own on a third party web hosting company?
if yes, can you also explain how to do it?
    Thanks a lot
    Bob

Yes, you can. First, you probably want this 3rd party hosted site to be separate from your original site. This might entail making a separate Domain file for iWeb to keep the sites separate. Another way to do this would be to create a separate system login account with its own instance of iWeb and separate Domain file. Again, this is a way of keeping the sites in different Domain files so that you can publish both sites independently and to different places. If, instead, you are basically starting over and don't mind erasing your previous website then you can disregard this.
Assuming that you have the particulars of preparing your separate site worked out (as above), then all you have to do is to design your separate site and then in iWeb choose "Publish to Folder". This will place all the files needed for this website in a folder on your desktop. Then you will need to get ahold of an FTP program of your choosing (Fetch and CyberDuck are two that are mentioned all the time). You will also need to figure out exactly where you 3rd party webserver wants you to upload files. You will use the FTP program to navigate to the desired web server directory and then upload the site folder that iWeb made into that directory. That's it!

  • Using iWeb to publish to a non.mac domain

Can I use iweb to develop a web site and publish to a domain that is not .mac?
Or can I host a non.mac domain on .mac?

Can I use iweb to develop a web site and publish to a
    domain that is not .mac?
Yes, you can. But not directly from iWeb. You will develop your pages in iWeb but the choose the "Publish to Folder" option. This will put all the files necessary for your website in a folder on your hard drive. You will then need to use an FTP program to upload the site files to your 3rd party web host.
Or can I host a non.mac domain on .mac?
Yes, you can also do this. You can do your pages in iWeb and then "Publish to .Mac". Then you can use "Domain Forwarding" available from your registrar or some other redirecting html to forward people who type in your domain name to you .Mac iWeb URL.
Either method will work fine. You will lose out on .Mac specific features (like slideshows, counters, passwords, comments, search) if you host your pages on a 3rd party web host. Also you lose the ability to do incremental uploads (uploading only changed pages) directly from iWeb if you're not using .Mac.
Good luck to you. If this has been useful information to you, please do me a favor and click the "solved" or "helpful" buttons in the title bar of this reply. Thanks.

  • I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, how can i publish to iCloud?

I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, Mobile Me is now closed, how can i publish to iCloud?

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • Using IWeb to publish a site in two languages

I have used IWeb successfully to create my new website and am using mobileme as the domain provider. I want to produce this website in two languages, ideally having a 'button' to press where you can choose your language option if the site appears in a language you cannot read (ie it is published firstly in indonesian language but there are people who want to access it in english).
Does anyone have nay experience / ideas about this?

  • Can use iweb and publish sites without a mobileme account?

I have a old imac and it died and I lost all of my websites and Im afraid that I cant republish the websites without a mobile me account… anyone know what I can do ?

When you 'lost your websites' do you mean you lost the 'Domain' file in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder? iWeb keeps all its information there and if you do not have it you will have to recreate your site from scratch. If this is the case I would most strongly advise not using iWeb - it's not been sold or supported for some time now, and indeed v2 ('08) does not work with Mavericks: v3 may stop working on a future update. There are many other programs for making websites - Everweb is popular and is designed to be very like iWeb, with more facilities.
If you do have the Domain file then you can publish to any website hosting service as outlined by Old Toad. There is a more detailed description of the process for the two different versions here:
    http://wilmut.uk/missing2
However if you are going to use iWeb remember that as I said a future system upgrade may very well break it; and you would find it very difficult to update the site by editing the published pages in the absence of being able to use iWeb and the Domain file.

  • In using iWeb to publish my site with FileZilla, I have inadvertently published a subdirectory instead of the root site. Can anyone guide me?

In the site name I put my site: combustionevent.com
And I put in my server address in the ftp settings and correct user name & password
In the website URL I typed in: www.mysitet.com
But when it publishes, it's found at: http://www.mysite.com/www.mysite.com/mysite_Home.html
I can't seem to figure out how to get it out of a subdirectory.

Well, of course you won't be able to because producing the site folder, which is what it is is normal practice for iWeb.  Due to the site structure, iWeb will create and publish a site folder.
To get over this you have 2 choices:
    1. Change the site name to something shorter and more applicable and upload again and keep the site folder.
    2.  Publish your site to a local folder from iWeb and then use Cyberduck to upload your site to iWeb, but upload the CONTENTS ONLY of your site folder rather than the whole site folder itself.  Your url will then be http://www.domain.com/page_name.html.

  • How can I publish two sites separately?

I want to publish a new site, but every time I do it, the old is the same folder than the new one.
My question is: how can I publish them separately?
    Regards.
    Guillermo

I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can I make another website using iWeb,then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb

Can I make another website using iWeb, and then publish it to a different server through the SMTP panel on iWeb, even though I have a website published on mobile me, can I just use the SMTP engine to publish a different site but to a different server, that's the question I'm asking. I'm hoping for a quick reply. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Yes.  You can do it one of two ways:
1 - select FTP Server in the Publish To menu (click on the site folder to get to the options) and enter the FTP address, username and password and publish as you would if using MMe.
2 - select Publish to Folder and publish. Use a 3rd party FTP client like  Cyberduck to upload the site files to there server using the FTP address, etc.

  • Using iWeb to publish to existing domain

I have a domain which is being hosted by an individual. I want to take over the management of it, so I am redesigning it using iWeb. I don't want to publish it to my .mac; I want it to be published at my current domain. (I hope I am articulating this correctly, since I am still pretty green with a lot of the lingo.)
I tried doing this using Transmit. I'm having problems. Does anyone know how to do what I am attempting to do? Thanks so much to anyone who can educate me.
    PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Well first off you need to publish your site to a folder from iweb. Go to file and publish to a folder. This will give you an index.html and folder. Upload both of these to your webspace via transmit. In transmit there are two windows left is your stuff and right is their stuff. Locate you index and folder in the your stuff window. Once you sign in to your host space and connect, simply drag the index.html and the folder over to their space. Depending on how big the site is it may take a minute. And when it stops and goes back to idle your done. I just started using transmit, but I have 3 sites up with no problems. Post back if you need further help. Good luck

  • Using iWeb FTP results in nested site...

I'm sure I'm just being a dummy here... but I'm lost.
I'm using iWeb v3.01 to upload a site to a non-.mac host (bluehost.com). The uploads proceed without a hitch, no problem. Let's call it "www.genericsite.com."
But when I go visit the site just uploaded, the browser's URL field immediately duplicates the URL, so that it reads "www.genericsite.com/genericsite.com/index.html."
I then use Fetch (FTP client) to view the files on the site. I go into the public_html folder (where the site is supposed to go), and there I find an index.html file (good) and a FOLDER named "genericsite.com." Inside that folder, I find all the site files, and ANOTHER index.html file too.
The Bluehost people are telling me that this "nested" folder is what's causing my problem. I could work around the problem by uploading from iWeb to a folder, then using Fetch (etc.) to upload the files. But that means I have to re-publish the entire site for every little change. So that ain't a great option.
Is there any way to fix it so that iWeb just uploads files directly to the root of public_html, without putting them into a second folder?
    Help, anyone?

    Hi Ethmoid
Thanks for you reply & patients. I followed you instructions, when I connect to my server I see several folders, php_uploads, public_html, SP_Barbarians.
I click on public_html, I see my files connected to my website but looks like without content as the files are only 4.0 - 4.0KB.
Then I click on public_htm - upload - it takes me to my desktop where I see my website folder - I select all and upload the contents of the folder. Cyberduck successfully uploads the content which is 436MB, however the website address stays the same, i.e www.spbarbarians/public_html/welcome.html , this is the previous address that came up when I used FTP to upload from iWeb with the site address public_html as you suggested earlier (to try & get rid of the double address www.spbarbarians/spbarbarians/welcome.html)
Then I look back at the folder public_html which is in my cyberduck window connected to my server & I see that all the files are still the same size, i.e 4.0 - 8.0 KB. If Cyberduck has uploaded 436MB of content to this folder shouldn't the folders reflect this size?
This window that I am looking at In Cyberduck is connected to my GoDaddy server and shows the content at that server correct?
Please help as I have followed the instructions but I must be doing something wrong>
