Using iWeb with MobileMe family pack

I just upgraded to the family pack for mobile me. I had been using it for my homepage, but now I'd like to make a homepage for my son, and my wife wants to make a homepage as well.
How is this handled in iWeb? I don't see a way to tell it where to publish which site when I add a new site.
What is the easiest way to handle multiple mobile me websites on one mac?
Thanks.

Not having used the sharing option since there's only one user on my Mac, I don't know the ins and outs of what you want to do. Terence Develin might. If you want to share the library with all users and have them be able to access the library, import new file and perform edits then the best solution is to put the library on an external HD whose ownership has been set to off. This Apple document explains the process: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users.
The drive can also be used to backup other files as well.

  • Using MobileMe Family Pack with iPad

I have a iPad and a MobileMe Family Pack subscription.
Why can't I have more MobileMe mail accounts, but not have my Calendars and Contacts of more then one MobileMe member account?
I also would like to see user management on the iPad!
Is there a work around available?
    Thanks!

    HI,
Setting up MobileMe aliases may work for you.

An alias does not have it's own calendar or contacts.

  • How I can see what accounts I created with my family pack in my old mobileme account?

Any ideas how I can see what accounts I created with my family pack in my old mobileme account?
i updated it when we need to migrate and all emails are active and being used.
i need to update an email address. we use this for my personal company and need to keep the email in
the same format so it matches the others in the company. i dont see it anywhere in my account now.
i am using a .mac format. thanks.

In order to see which devices are authorized on your account:
    Open iTunes
    Click Store
    Click Account
    Click View Account
    Enter your password
Look in the second section iTunes in the Cloud
To the far right you'll see Manage Devices
Once it's clicked you will see all of the devices currently authorized in iTunes/on your account
I was going to say, "Hope this helps," but based on the above, I'm pretty sure it did!
    Thanks guys...

  • MobileMe Family Pack- Setting up old sub-account in Mail

This past spring we had a MobileMe Family Pack with one email account unassigned. Before MobileMe closed, i created an email address for my son, so that when he was ready to have one he would. Now i am trying to set that up for him, and am having quite a difficult time. I'm not sure if i'm setting it up wrong, or if it's even possible to do, since the account was never actually utilized before we migrated to iCloud.
I logged into his name on our iMac and tried to use System Preferences>iCloud to set it up. After asking for his name and DOB, it told me he was too young to have an iCloud account (or maybe it was an AppleID; he's 8 BTW). So, i opened Mail (which for some reason is hanging mecilessly at evey click, beachballs nonstop) and went through the setup assistant. I thought i set up an iCloud email account successfully, using the me.com email i had created back in MobileMe. I don't remember setting a password up at that time, but i put in the one i most likely would have used and it seemed to take it. But when i tried to send him a message from my Mail, it would not send because it rejected his address.
So, i went back into his Mail program and added an IMAP account using the same email address, using the incoming/outgoing server info from my account (p01-imap.mail.me.com & smtp.me.com:hisemailprefix). The incoming server for his iCloud IMAP account is not editable, BTW, and says mail.example.com in grey. Still no luck, both accounts cannot connect. When i try to check the iCloud account it says it can't connect to the iCloud server and asks for the password, and when i put in the one i used to set up the Mail account it doesn't accept it. this kind of makes sense since he doesn't seem to have a full-fledged iCloud account. When i try to check the IMAP account it says it's offline, and when i try to take it online it asks for password but won't connect. mail Connection Doctor says Mail is connecting to the internet.
Should i try to do this from my login and Mail, see if that works? Is there a way to reset the password i may have used when i originally assigned the MobileMe account? Does his Mail program constantly freezing mean something (all his other programs work fine)? Any advice is appreciated; thanks!

As you did not migrate his sub-account to iCloud when this was possible (it would have become a separate iCloud account) you cannot retrieve the contents of his account. However unmigrated MobileMe addresses (other than aliases) can be reactivated by signing into System Preferences>iCloud with them and enabling Mail in the checklist there. Until you do this the account is not an iCloud account.
As you have found there is an age limit. If you had given them an age greater than 12 you would have been able to set this up. As it is, it's not set up and no amount of setting it up manually in Mail or sending messages to it is going to work.
The iCloud Terms of Service say:
'The Service is available to individuals aged 13 years or older. If you are 13 or older but under the age of majority in your country of residence, you must review this Agreement with your parent or guardian to make sure that you and your parent or guardian understand it. Parents or guardians should also remind any minors that conversing with strangers on the Internet can be dangerous and take appropriate precautions to protect children, including monitoring their use of the Service.'
Given this, it would not be proper to advise you to apply again mis-stating his age, even if the fact that you've already told them he is 8 does not technically bar you from doing this.

  • Backups over the Internet Using MobileMe Family Pack

I know how to configure an AirPort (AirPort Extreme, Time Capsule) to be accessible for Back to My Mac using a MobileMe account. However, we have a Family Pack. I am the Pack master, so I used my ID to set up Back to My Mac on my Time Capsule (and Air Port Extreme at our other location). This seems to just make the master account work. Should the master account enable all of the MobileMe family accounts to leverage Back to My Mac (and hence things like remote backups)?

Recent update to AirPort enables multiple MobileMe accounts to be used for BackToMyMac

  • IWeb, Dot Mac, family packs... and Domain names???

I'm a volunteer involved with recreational trails and historical preservation organizations in a rural area. I've been talking with the leadership of these (not-well-funded) organizations for some time about the benefits of establishing web sites for each organization. (Publicizing accomplishments, generating awareness of issues, soliciting support, improving communication, etc.)
Prior to the recent MacWorld SF Expo, I was looking (very warily) at some of the pay-services out there where you can pay so much a month (or a year) for a web-hosting service which would supposedly offer a domain name of choice, server space, and other services. Of course, with this I would have to learn how to use a web design app like GoLive CS or DreamWeaver MX. I'm not opposed to that. Web-based tutorial services like Lynda.com make it more possible than ever before. Still, I was wary about getting my "bang for the buck"; the combination of my time and the hard-won funding of these organizations resulted in wavering enthusiasm.
Along comes Apple's iLife 2006 and the offering of a new Dot Mac Family Pack. Looking over the possibilities, there's something to be said for combining iLife '06 with a Dot Mac Family Pack. If Steve Jobs' hype is to be believed, I could put up nice little web-sites for a decent price and have all kinds of technological possibilities for the future. (If anyone wants to post a podcast, it can be done. Posting pictures of volunteer work and developing issues can be a major breakthrough for awareness and support.)
I'm still concerned about some lingering issues, though. Some of these other web-hosting services offer the means of securing and using your own domain name (i.e., your-organization.org) for a web-site URL and even several e-mail addresses using that same domain name. Still, if I split a Dot Mac Family Pack five ways, that's $36 per site. That's quite a savings over $100+ per year per site that these hosting services were asking. How tough is it to get a domain name, and how much does it cost?

    Walt,
Getting a domain name is easy enough, as long as you can come up with one that isn't already taken. You can secure a domain name on sites like GoDaddy.com for less than $10 a year, and it gets cheaper as you secure it for more years at a time. GoDaddy also offers free domain forwarding, meaning: you can have your www.brandnewdomainname.com point to your .Mac url (which will read something complex like http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/somethingorother). If you don't want the complex .Mac url to show in the browser's address field when people visit your page, GoDaddy will mask it for you for free too. Then, it will just say www.brandnewdomainname.com on every page on that site. If you want each page on each of your sites to have its own easy url, say www.brandnewdomainname.com/about or www.brandnewdomainname.com/contact, you'll have to host with GoDaddy or some other site and pay the price.
If you decide to go with the iLife 06/.Mac combo, the family pack may not be the best thing for you. Have a look at this .Mac page:
    http://www.mac.com/1/currencytable.html
For $20 more, you can get twice the server space (4GB), and I think that also includes a lot more bandwidth per month than the family pack, but I am not sure about that. For $30 less, you have the same amount of space as the family pack. What you don't have is the 4 additional e-mail addresses. You can purchase those separately for $10 a year, or, you can use up to 5 free e-mail aliases per account. The drawback to aliases is that messages sent to them will all end up in the main account's inbox, which may or may not work for you --perhaps only if all the e-mails are intended for the webmaster and that is you for all these sites. Of course, you could always list individual non-.Mac e-mail addresses on a contact page, and probably turn them into hyperlinks so that if people click on them, their e-mail app will open a new e-mail addressed to that person. May not be the most elegant way to do it, but if you're trying to save money, maybe it's good enough.
With a regular (non-family pack) .Mac account, you also are not forced to split your server space five ways evenly -- you can host as many sites on one .Mac account as your server space will allow. The main headache for you will be the urls to each individual page of all these sites. If you are picky about them and what exactly they look like, .Mac may not be your thing. Not yet at least. It has the ease of use, but you pay for that in other ways. There's always a trade-off...
    Hope that helps a little.

  • MobileMe Family Pack to iCloud email

    Greetings,
My question regards my former "family pack" on mobile me.
First, I have migrated all of my accounts and devices (well, until today) over to iCloud (3 macs, 3 iPhones, 1 iPad).
Under mobile me, I was the master account holder, and I had sub accounts (emails) setup for my wife and daighter - all good.
So, I used 2 of the 3 subaccounts available under my plan.
Christmas brought my Son a new iPad.
I figured I could just go in and use my 4th sub account to get him setup - however, under iCloud I see no provision to get to the account setup area.
Is this now obsolete? I know I've paid for my family pack through (I think June 2012) all I really want to do is setup my Son with an @me email account (which he really won't even use for awhile) and make it so he can access the app store, etc.
Do I have to setup a completely separate account for him (and pay yet another fee for iCloud service for him?
What happens when my current family pack expires - separate accounts (and fees) for each user?
    I'm confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to get this new iPad setup today :-)
    THANK YOU!

Her email address is her Apple ID. She should go to http://me.com/move and enter her MobileMe email address and password to upgrade: she will need to be running 10.7.2.

  • Business use and business licences (family packs??)

I posted this in the .mac communication forum, too, so hope that's okay and not going to cause any confusion. Would have posted it in a general topic but couldn't find one. Would be nice to have a topic for small businesses and/or creative/professional businesses. Anyway, the other thread is here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1085712
I am somewhat surprised that Apple isn't putting more emphasis on small businesses in terms of where they are pitching their software. I don't know about the rest of the world but it seems like more and more small businesses (and certainly those in the creative industry) are switching to Macs.
So why does Apple not allow .mac to be used for business use and why does Apple only have "family packs"? I would love to get iWork for my staff (four licences) and a collecting team licence for .mac (family licence?)....
.mac could be perfect for business use and in-house/client collaboration but for some reason it seams Apple just isn't thinking of those possibilities. With web applications like Basecamp, Highrise, Connector etc and desktop programs like DayLite, there is clearly a huge market for these services and Apple is well on the way to having one of the best systems there but for some reason they won't extend it slightly to make it work for business.
    Any takes on this?
    Cheers,
    Galen

Apple does offer volume licensing for businesses. I'm not sure if this link will "time out." Here is the path I took to get to that page: Apple.com > Store tab > link under More Stores Business on the right-hand side of the page > Volume licensing under Business Solutions, again on the right-hand side of the page. The list is alphabetical.

  • Still Use iWeb with Another Hosting Service?

Today, I've officially had it with MobileMe as a web hosting service. Love the sync with my iPhone, but the web hosting has broken my back. But I love iWeb for designing my pages.
Can I use iWeb to design pages that I then post to other hosting sites?

iWeb '09 has three publishing options - MobileMe, built in FTP and to a local folder.
The last method is preferable as it allows you to add tags for search engine optimizing and also to optimize your files for faster download before uploading to your server via a reliable FTP application.
MobileMe is slow, unreliable and has no tech support. It is very limited and doesn't allow you to run scripts or have web email, redirects, form mail etc.

  • Using iWeb without MobileMe?

I would like to use iWeb but don't have a MobileMe account, & don't really want to get one since I have no iPhone or iPad. Does anyone have experience publishing onto another server? Which ones work best? Is it free? Is it complicated? Please help! Thanks

iWeb '09 has a built in FTP or you can publish to a local folder and upload using an FTP application.
When choosing hosting you get what you pay for.

  • Can you only use Iweb with .mac accounts?

Can I use iweb to build a webiste for a domain I already own with web hosting?

You need another app (specifically, an FTP client). iWeb can only publish directly to .mac or a folder on your computer. There are various FTP programs, but I'm really partial to Transmit 'cause it's really easy and kicks you-know-what.
Quote from the makers of Transmit: "And yes, Transmit 3 is the perfect FTP companion to iWeb."
And no, I don't work for Panic, Inc.

  • Can I use iWeb with Lion and Mountain Lion

I have been using iWeb for my website.
If I upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion or later versions - what wil happen - can I still use my iWeb.

    Yes.
But the app was discontinued years ago.

  • Trouble recently using iWeb with Leopard 10.6.8?

I have a iMac (early 2007) Dual Core Intel Based, and have been using iMac for a couple of years just fine.
Recently (a few months ago) I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and since then my computer freezes etc...
I've been getting the dreaded Grey Screen with the Apple Logo and churning gear at startup and the computer won't get passed that point.
I've tried booting from my Snow Leopard Disk and have run Disk Utility and Repair, and I have no errors.
What's odd is that if I try to open iWeb now and start using it for more then a couple of minutes the computer gets the dreaded spinning rainbow and freezes up, forcing me to shut down often.
Now, I am only able to start my computer early in the morning after it has been turned off at night.
    Any Reccomendations?
    Thanks in Advance...
    BJB

I heard of reports that there may be a 10.6.9 to use iCloud in SL. Don't know if it will happen, but we'll see. You still have the option to use the iCloud website for your MobileMe account in the future.

  • MobileMe Family Pack

Are the calendars and contacts separate for each individual user? Example: 5 users, each with own computer using Outlook and own iPhone, will each users Outlook sync with each users iPhone individually? Is the MobileMe online calendar separate also? Is each account standalone?

If those 5 different users have their own email addresses then yes it will as per your example.
The online calender will sync with the email account associated with it. Each account is standalone.
If the single user gives you one key, then the family gives multiple keys to use as single users.
