Using JPDA while offline

Greetings
I am having a problem where I cannot use JPDA if I do not have an internet connection on my laptop. My application launches a new VM using the default LaunchingConnector, and it works fine while the network is up. When the network is down, I get a trace like:
VMStartException: VM initialization failed for ... etc
It is a socket transport connection, and I am running Linux.
I assume the problem is that the socket transport attempts to access the network interface somehow. Can someone point me towards a solution?

Is your localhost/loopback address still up when your laptop is disconnected?
    % /usr/sbin/traceroute localhost

     1 localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1) 0.026 ms 0.008 ms 0.008 msIf so, have you tried aiming your socket connection at that?

You have to Activate BlackBerry Data Plan / BIS on your account, It will allow you to add your BlackBerry ID on your phone and will allow you to use all BlackBerry Service over your Mobile Network . Please call your Carrier or Mobile service provider they can add it on your account.

Using Mountain Lion offline

I need to buy a new MBP for my business. Luckily, I had an opportunity to try one (15", i7, OS 10.8) before placing an order. Since my present machines are still on OS 10.7, I was new to Mountain Lion. I really liked it - until I started using it at the actual work site (rural Pennsylvania) without any network connection (even my iPhone is dead there). The lack of online service did not bother me because the only work I need to do on the laptop at this site is data and word processing. However, nothing seemed to work in Mountain Lion while offline. Help, Preview, iWork, Office 2011, Acrobat Pro and a bunch of other programs I used on my regular office's LAN without a problem, suddenly became unresponsive or gave me the spinning beachball for a minute (probably due to some network timeout). I tried to make it clear to the OS that I am in the boonies by setting up a "No network" location in Network Preferences with all network interfaces turned off. Some apps, like Preview, simply switched back to the "LAN" location I use in my regular office — then crashed. Being new to Mountain Lion, I also needed to run Help but it either told me that help is available online, or waited for a minute then came up with some basic advice for Mac newbies.
My questions are:
What are the settings (including using the Terminal) that tells Mountain Lion that I am offline and that it should not pause for incoming data because not a single bit will come?
What I am I doing wrong that prevents me to use Mountain Lion offline without loosing functionality in applications that do not external data?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Is there a way to get Flash to work in a browser while offline?

In order to work offline I'm using XAMPP to develop a website which is working great except that I can't see any Flash content. External Flash players have no problem working offline but obviously won't load anything but SWFs and FLVs.
Is there a way to get Flash to work in a browser while offline?

You can open a swf file in a browser offline, either as a standalone file or as part of a web page. If the file is dependent on loading online content in some way, or needs to interact with a server-side script, then it may not get very far.

ICal data entered while offline is lost by iCloud

So I entered a bunch of stuff in my iCal while I was offline... events, times, dates, assigned events to the correct one of my 10 iCal/iCloud calendars...
Obviously, it couldn't upload to the cloud at that time, but it looked like everything was correctly entered locally and looking good...
(BTW I am on MacBook Air, all software up to date, sync preference set to "push")
When I went back online an hour later, I figured it would sync my new events to the cloud...
INSTEAD, what happened is this:
iCal deleted all the specific info in my new events (name, location, calendar), keeping only the time, and reassigning them to my default calendar as "New Event".
So I have to type everything back in and do that work again.
Is this a normal occurance? Please tell me the new iCal can't really be this lame!

Same thing just happened to me, using the latest Lion iCal syncing to iCloud: A couple hours worth of careful event rearranging (done while offline) disappeared without a trace.
Lots of googling turned up basically nothing on what could have gone wrong or how to avoid it. There are certainly many cases of iCal events mysteriously disappearing, often related to sync, and these seem to have existed through many old versions (e.g. since Leopard at least, and when syncing to MobileMe) in addition to the latest Lion/iCloud combination.
My wife missed some important appointments last year when this happened to her (on Snow Leopard/MobileMe). It is rather insane that something so important to people remains so unreliable.

Try running Pandora in its own tab and leaving that tab open (Safari 7.1.5, OS 10.9.5). I don't have Pandora to try this, but it works for me otherwise.

The attachment is an .xls excel 97-2003 spreadsheet. I viewed the file in the email and did not edit it with any software. I can forward the file to anyone that is may want to check it out to see if they can help me. I was wondering if there was some way of forcing another ios6 install on my phone and maybe that would solve it.

Find My iPhone will display the last location of the device for 24 hours:
Click on the device on iCloud under Devices (even though the dot is gray). It will take you to the map to show you where it was last "seen" online.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

Will using iphone while charging use up battery cycle?

battery capacity decreases as we repeat charging / using the phone.
but what if we use it while it is being charged? will it just use power from
the power source or charge+use up batter at the same time?
i hope it can just use draw power from the external power source and leave
the battery alone if it's full, then I can just use bluetooth and leave
the phone in the dock to not waste battery cycles.

There are two issues here. A cycle is the EQUIVALENT of one complete use of the battery from fully charged to depleted. But it can take place over multiple uses and charges. There is no way to avoid using cycles (or portions of them) other than leaving the phone plugged in all the time. Which brings us to issue two:
The worst thing you can do to your battery (other than letting it get very hot) is to leave it plugged in all the time. This is not because it will overcharge. As others have pointed out, the phone is smart enough to prevent overcharging. But li-ion polymer batteries like to get some "exercise" to say fresh. Apple recommends the equivalent of at least one cycle per month. If it's plugged in constantly, it will not get enough exercise and its capacity will diminish.

IPad goes crazy when using it while charging

Hi, these couple of days my new iPad started to act weird whenever I'm using it while the charging port is intact with my new iPad. Which means that it is not responding to my touches when the charge port is intact and reacts normally when I pull out the charge port. This is the first time it is happening after using it for a couple of months. The weird reactions are such that i can't type or touch at the correct location as it goes else where. It changes my pages, goes blank enlarge my page and becomes jumpy. It's getting annoying as it is not functioning the way it Shd be whenever the charge port is intact. It goes back to normal when I unplug it. I have actually taken a video on this issue and i can send the video to you via youtube if you require. Please advise. Thanks

If the reset does not help, then transfer all purchases to iTunes on your computer, next backup the iPad to your computer and then restore the iPad with the backup.
