Using laptop as second display

I was wondering if I can use my laptop as a second display in conjuction with my iMac i3 21.5 3.06.
The laptop I would like to use is a acer aspire 5570z.

Laptop as second display

I currently have a imac g5 I want to get a second display for use when using final cut pro..... I was wondering if it would be possible for a apple laptop to serve this function.... since i could use it for so much more than just buying a cinema display

Ok, so how about the reverse....I have an macbook (intel) and want to use my 20" imac's monitor. Reason, adobe's Illustrator CS2 trial will not load on my imac. Tried all the suggusts gave up. It will on the macbook (?) I'm taking classes and need a bigger screen to really be affective doing my homework.
So can I hook my macbook to my imac's Screen, shut my macbook's lid and work?

Not true brother. Simply open back up the screen once you have established the connection with your external monitor and its native resolutions, and BINGO you can us the keyboard to type and the laptop screen will not turn on. In fact you can use all of the functiions of the laptop without the laptop screen truning on. Try it.

Connecting 2 (21.5" & 27") iMacs and using 21" as second display

Hi, I have 2 imacs (1x27 and 1x21.5), 27 is mid 2010 and 21.5 is late 2009.
Iam trying to find out if I can use 21 as 2nd display off the 27.
I connected them together with mini dv and they default to 21 as primary and 27 as 2nd.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated?

Of course not. Late 2009 and Mid 2010 21'5-inch iMacs can't be used for Target Display mode because they aren't compatible. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
It means that you can't use your old 21'5-inch iMac as an external display wired, but you can use it wirelessly. To do it, you just need that both iMacs are connected to the same network and the app ScreenRecycler

Can I use my laptop as a second monitor for my HP? It doesn't have an hdmi port, so is there any software or converters someone suggests?

Sorry to say, but it won't be possible - any video ports on your notebook will be output only.
Actually that's not what the OP asked, and it's incorrect since you're not answering the question he asked. There are software packages out there that will let the OP do what they want between multiple PCs. Multiplicity by Stardock is a quick example http://www.stardock.com/products/multiplicity/ and it's only $30

is there a way i can hook my laptop to be a monitor, keyboard, and mouse for my desktop?

Hi Trilasertops,
The solution I am proposing effectively turns your desktop computer into an external Firewire drive for your laptop.
You would be using the system installed on the desktop to run the laptop.
You would be constrained by the performance limitations of the laptop, plus there may be system clashes due to the different ways in which the operating systems are installed on each computer.
If you have any peripherals hooked to the desktop, you access to these via the laptop may be restricted.
However, if it works, it means that your are controlling the desktop drive from your laptop.
USB keyboards (especially secondhand ones) aren't really that expensive. Maybe that would be a better (simpler) way for your to go.

Use TV As Second Display

Hi guys,
You know how in Final Cut Pro there is a feature that lets you preview onto a DV cam or other firewire device, this lets me send my final cut project to my camera which is connected to my tv so I can preview my output, I got thinking of using this differently. Is there any 3rd party app or anything that will let me send whatever is on my screen to the camera and onto my TV, like a poor-man version of the TV adapter. I know the text will be hard to read and stuff but I just want to beable to have for example my quicktime movies play on my tv so I don't have to watch on my computer monitor.

I want my TV (used as a second display over HDMI) to turn on automatically as the laptop turns on or resumes from sleep/hibernation. (As does a monitor on a desktop PC or the built-in screen on a laptop)
CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is supposed to allow to turn on TV over HDMI.
The television is CEC compatible and has CEC option turned on. Theres also an option called "Allow CEC compatible devices to turn on television", which is turned on.
Can this laptop turn on a TV through HDMI, with or without CEC?

The TV is in what the manufacturer calls standby-mode.

TheT.V. should wake from standby upon receiving a signal from the notebook.
I agree. It should.
To the best of my knowledge, the notebook will not turn the T.V. on from a powered off state. At least, I haven't found any indication that this model will.
Anyone else has a solution? There could be a way to turn it on from off state if HDMI CEC is implemented by HP.
Or another way..?

Tablet or USB monitor as second display

Hello all,
I am in the need to have a second monitor, and it needs to be a low profile monitor (about the size of a tablet). Has anyone had luck using a tablet as a secondary monitor in Arch? I tried Splashtop Streamer and that didn't work. I couldn't get the monitor to see my PC, which is connected to the network via physical wire.
I also saw TwomonUSB, anyone have experience with this?

Been reading up on VNC, and apparently, it can be set up to use the tablet as a second monitor. Has anyone done this with Arch? Any help would be appreciated. So far I have these two links for reference:

I am running the 23" Cinema Display (ATI X1900 card). I have an older Studio 17" display which I would like to use as a second display. Does the Apple DVI to ADC Display Adapter work for the Mac Pro??

Late 2009 imac as second display for new (late 2012) imac. How to?

I have a late 2009 imac 27 that I would like to use as a second display for my late 2012 imac 27. Has anybody connected them successfully? I am getting very mixed information on the topic.

Symptoms
When you attempt to connect an iMac (21.5-inch or 27-inch, Mid 2011) and later to another computer with a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, the screen of the target iMac will not become an external display when you press Command-F2 to activate Target Display Mode.
Resolution
iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) and later computers support Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2 m) when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) computers do not support Target Display Mode via Mini DisplayPort cables.

Use a 24" Cinema display on my 27iMac with thunderbolt

I have the opertunaty to buy a 24" apple display and want to know if it can be used as a second display to dreate a two monitor system.
I know a new 27" display can but want to check it also apply's to the 24"

You would need a DVI to ADC adapter, image below, search Ebay to find one in your area.

Using a PC laptop as a second display?

Can anyone tell me a way of connecting up an iMac to a PC laptop so that the laptop acts as a second display? I'm running audio software and need to switch between edit windows all the time. I know you can get mini DVI to RGA adaptors, but im not sure if it'll work?!
iMac Intel 2.33GHz Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yeah, it works fine. It's just that there is two main windows I have to use, and having the laptop as a second display would mean I could save time switching between them instead of messing about on one screen.
