Using LDAP as Naming and Directory Services of Weblogic

Hi All,
I wan to use LDAP(using Netscape Directory Server 4.2 as LDAP server) with weblogic5.1. I want that beans should be bound this LDAP server when they are deployed. For this what I have to change in configuration?
Anyother suggestions related to using LDAP with weblogic are welcome. In this regard, I want to ask whether weblogic application server has LDAP server built into it or not.
Thanks and Regards,
sudarson

As I understand from your reply, you are suggesting me to bind the beans to LDAP server within the bean class's setentitycontext ? Is it so ? Can we not configure even this feature in weblogic6.0 also ? One thing more, if do this kind of thing then jndiname will be hardcoded into the bean class and can't be changed by simply editing the deployment descriptor. Pls suggest.

sudarson

This is not possible through configuration at the current time. One thing
you could do is have your EJBs make a connection to your LDAP server and
register themselves when they are deployed.

    Hi,
    we're having exactly the same problem.
    Could you tell me what the problem is with the network ?
    You say configure it properly but what do you mean ?
    It's installed on a Windows 2000 Server machine, it's own DNS.

  • Certificates, Keychain and Directory Services

    Starting with 10.4.3 iChat now generates X.509 certificates for all .Mac chat addresses to allow encrypted chats.
    Those certificates can also be used to sign and encrypt all e-mails for your .Mac address in Mail.app. By default both sides need to send each other a signed e-mail to they get the other's certificate onto their keychains before they can exchange encrypted e-mails.
    But Keychain.app allows you to query .Mac for any subscriber's certificate so you get a copy of the public key without the need to exchange messages first. Just turn on
    [x] Search .Mac for Certificates
    in Keychain Access' Preferences. This works just fine, you can even look at all your friends with .Mac addresses in your Address Book to see which ones already have a working certificate.
    Now the second option in Keychain Access
    [x] Search Directory Services for Certificates
    makes me curious: How do I generate and store my own certificates for all my users in Directory Services? I haven't found any documentation on that so far and would really like to use this asap.
    When I can generate all X.509 certificates for my domain and store them in Directory Services this would make life a lot easier.
    So far we used some free CA authority but users tend to forget to renew their certs when the expiration warnings come in and sooner or later half of them can no longer sign or encrypt their e-mail. When I can do the renewal myself and distribute them this way this'll be a big improvement.

    Matthew -
    thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this AFP548 article explains a lot about rolling your own CA, but it does not give any hints how to store the certificate data on the directory.
    Marcel Bresink, author of several excellent books about Mac OS X (Server), gave me the hint that the following keys can be stored in an LDAP domain (information from "man DirectoryServiceAttributes"):
    UserCertificate
    Attribute containing the binary of the user's certificate.
    Usually found in user records. The certificate is data which identifies a user.
    This data is attested to by a known party, and can be independently verified
    by a third party.
    UserSMIMECertificate
    Attribute containing the binary of the user's SMIME certificate.
    Usually found in user records. The certificate is data which identifies a user.
    This data is attested to by a known party, and can be independently verified
    by a third party. SMIME certificates are often used for signed or encrypted emails.
    UserPKCS12Data
    Attribute containing binary data in PKCS #12 format.
    Usually found in user records. The value can contain keys, certificates, and
    other related information and is encrypted with a passphrase.
    Perhaps someone else has already managed to fill those keys so Keychain Access on connected clients can retrieve the Certificates.

  • One for Tim Harris: iChat and Directory Services

    Hi Tim or anyone else that know the answer,
    I have a thread in iChat 3's forum http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2589810
    The Poster is using an iChat server and has "several thousand" contacts listed in Directory Services.
    What he wants to do and has been doing on a one by one basis is have the "real Name" details show in his iChat.
    Currently he is using the Add Buddy Card and the Address Book Arrow to access the Address Book then he navigates to the Directory Services Entry for that person.
    1) Is there a method of making iChat see the info in Directory Services ?
    2) Without creating a Address Book with thousands of entries is there a quick and easy method to get those Buddies in his iChat connected to the info in the Directory Services other than the method he is doing ?
    (AppleScript, Automator or similar).
    3) Am I barking up completely the wrong tree ?

  • Name and Directory Service (Soap, Rest)

    Hello everyone,
    i would like to implement a directory service for Web-services (like UDDI) that supports SOAP and Rest. My question is can i use JNDI to do that. When yes, muss I write a Plug in for JNDI SPI to support this Protocols(SOAP, Rest). When no, what would you recommend me.
    Thank you very much

    oops,thought i was replying to the PgP question:)
    I think you should be able to achieve this via adapter module but i m not really sure how exactly it will be done .

  • Dynamic class loading problem using unknown JAR archive and directory names

    I read the following article, which enlightened me a lot:
    Ted Neward: Understanding Class.forName().
    However, it took me some while to understand that my problem is the other way around:
    I know the name of the class, I know the name of the method,
    but my program/JVM does not know where to load the classes from.
    Shortly, my problem is that the server engine that I am writing
    uses two different versions of the same library.
    So I am trying out the following solution:
    My program is named TestClassPathMain.java
    Assume the two libraries are named JAR1.jar and JAR2.jar
    and the class/instance method that should
    be exposed to TestClassPathMain.java by them is named
    TestClass1.testMethod().
    As long as I was depending on just one library,
    I put JAR1.jar in the classpath before starting java,
    and I was happy for a while.
    At the moment I got the need to use another version of
    TestClass1.testMethod() packaged in JAR2.jar,
    a call would always access JAR1.jar's
    TestClass1.testMethod().
    I then decided to remove JAR1.jar from the classpath,
    and programmatically define two separate ClassLoaders, one for use
    with JAR1.jar and the other for use with JAR2.jar.
    However, the problem is only partly solved.
    Please refer to the enclosed code for details.
    (The code in the JAR1.jar/JAR2.jar is extremely simple,
    it just tells (by hardcoding) the name of the jar it is packaged in
    and instantiates another class packaged in the same jar using
    the "new" operator and calls a method on it. I don't enclose it.)
    The TestClassPathMain.java/UC1.java/UC2.java code suite was
    successfully compiled with an arbitrary of JAR1 or JAR2 in the classpath,
    however removed from the classpath at runtime.
    (I know that this could have been done (more elegantly...?) by producing an Interface,
    but I think the main problem principle is still untouched by this potential lack of elegancy(?))
    1) This problem should not be unknown to you experts out there,
    how is it generally and/or most elegantly solved?
    The "*** UC2: Variant 2" is the solution I would like best, had it only worked.
    2) And why arent "*** UC2: Variant 2" and
    "*** static UC2: Variant 2" working,
    while "*** Main: Variant 2" is?
    3) And a mal-apropos:
    Why can't I catch the NoClassDefFoundError?
    The output:

    2. i need to load the class to the same JVM (i.e. to
    the same environment) of the current running
    aplication, so that when the loaded class is run, it
    would be able to invoke methods on it!!!
    ClassLoader(s) do this. Try the URLClassLoader.
    (I was talking about relatively esoteric "security"
    issues when I mentioned the stuff about Class objects
    "scope".) You might use the URLClassLoader kind of
    like this.
    Pseudo-code follows:
    // setup the class loader
    URL[] urls = new URL[1];
    urls[0] = new URL("/path/to/dynamic/classes");
    URLClassLoader ucl = new URLClassLoader(urls);
    // load a class & use make an object with the default constructor
    Object tmp = ucl.loadClass("dynamic.class.name").newInstance();
    // Cast the object to a know interface so that you can use it.
    // This may be used to further determine which interface to cast
    // the class to. Or it may simply be the interface to which all
    // dynamic classes have to conform in your program.
    InterfaceImplementedByDynamicClass loadedObj =
        (InterfaceImplementedByDynamicClass)tmp;It's really not as hard as it sounds, just write a little test of
    this and you will see how it works.

    Dear All,
    This is very urgent issue, we are facing in the Production server.
    We have installed a Weblogic Server 10.3.6 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit. Then we have installed ADF runtime 11.1.1.6 and Domain creation, then applied patchs 14582286 and 14582309. • Help please: re proper use of JNDI and Directory services

    I'm new to this J2EE/JDev stuff and have spent a few days pouring over Sun's JNDI and J2EE documentation as to how best to accomplish my task. Here's the big picture. I am constructing a web site in my PC at home for eventual deployment in an ISP server. I don't have an LDAP or COS server but ISPs usually do. I've found a public LDAP server I can use but the problem is getting an entry on the server that my JSP client and EJB server code can use to find my Entity bean and SQLServer database server respectively. The best I've been able to come up with is that I need to write my own Applet or client application to register my entries on that LDAPserver with appropriate Java attributes and then code my stuff to look it up using the DirContext class.
    As for how I pass my stuff into my EJB bean, I intend to use jndi.properties to specify custom properties that map logicals to the physical resources that DirContext routines act on and use System.getProperty("...") to retrieve them dynamically without having to recode later. I haven't figured out exactly how to do this for Servlets and JSPs yet so they can find the beans.
    I'm interested in any feedback to what I'm doing and how better to achieve my ends.
    As an aside, I noticed as I poured through Sun's J2EE container software that they seem to have embedded COS in their deploytool as a nice feature that would effectively solve my problem if JDeveloper could integrate such a capability. Their sample programs were pretty straight-forward in configuring JDBC and the beans. Any thoughts from the JDev team on providing a similar capability for OC4J?
    Thanks,
    Dean

    I would first left-click with the mouse on the camera icon (to enable/activate the snap shot feature), then I'd go with the mouse to the area I wanted to take the snapshot, click-and-drag so I would box-in the desired area to be copied/duplicated, then let go off the mouse (a ding wound then sound) and finally I would go to the page where I wanted to reproduce the snapshotted and left-click once with the mouse... And presto!
    Not so with 11-Pro. It allows me to paste onto a different program such as MS-Word (or Outliok), but not onto a PDF page.

  • LDAP security provider and web service authentication

    Background: we are currently developing web services to our existing weblogic application. Our users can configure user/password authentication in one of three ways: database, LDAP, or SSO. Setting SSO aside, we need to implement the same authentication for database and LDAP that we use in our existing logon servlet in our web services. In our servlet we detect which they are configured for and, if database, authenticate the encrypted password to a database table we have for user id/password. If LDAP we use weblogic.servlet.security.ServletAuthentication and the weak() method to authenticate.
    We've to use SOAP headers to communicate username/password from the client to the web service. We want to code a SOAP message handler to grab the username/password and do the authentication there. We've successfully put something together that handles the database authentication no problem and are now struggling with how to handle the LDAP authentication. We distribute a LDAP security provider we've coded for LDAP authentication. I guess what I am looking for is an equivalent functionality provided with weblogic.servlet.security.ServletAuthentication. Note that I realize the weblogic.servlet.security package has been deprecated starting with Weblogic 9.0 but cannot find what functionality replaces it. Any help there would be appreciated as well.
    Note that I am fairly new to web service development (about 10 months now) and definitely new to web service security and Weblogic security. I tried digging into the volumes of documentation out there regarding these two topics but am simply having a difficult time sorting it all out and figuring out how to do what I want to do.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    Add Provider (LDAP Credentials) in Admin console Security Realm --> defaultrealm -->Providers. Configuring Ldap in Admin Console will enable Admin Server to connect to LDAP. All the LDAP preconfigured Users/Groups will be available in Users and Groups Tab of Security Realms >defaultrealm >Users and Groups. Add Roles using Security Realms >defaultrealm > Roles and Policies > Global Roles > Roles. Add Role Conditions to the role by specifying users/groups configured in LDAP. If your webservice runs with SSL Anotate the Webservice file something like this below.
    @RolesAllowed({
    @SecurityRole(role="test")
    @Policy(
    uri="policy:Wssp1.2-2007-Https-UsernameToken-Plain.xml",
    attachToWsdl=true)
    Here the role is Preconfigired role in AdminConsole. Add the following tag in the soapenv:header.
    <soapenv:Header>
    <wsse:Security soapenv:mustUnderstand="1" xmlns:wsse="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-secext-1.0.xsd">
    <wsse:UsernameToken>
    <wsse:Username>test</wsse:Username>
    <wsse:Password Type="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-username-token-profile-1.0#PasswordText">password</wsse:Password>
    </wsse:UsernameToken>
    </wsse:Security>
    </soapenv:Header>

  • Using LDAP Query in Active Directory to see what users are still logged ?

    any suggestions for a LDAP query that I can use in AD to see who is still logged into the network?
    It would be great to distinguish who's logged in with a screen lock which means they aren't really at their PC vs what users are actually using their PCs.
    Thanks in advance!

    I recently posted a framework for checking all machines to see who is logged into them. You can take that and adjust it as you need.

  • Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI)????

    What do u mean by JNDI and what is the use of this Interface.
    Could someone make me literate on this topic..
    .................ABHI

    Its never too late to get back to the basics, what do
    you expect when u are designing a web Service and
    suddenly you don't remember the exact defntions of
    these terms. If you design web services in Java, you normally do not suddenly forget what the difference between J2SE and J2EE is. And you normally know that you can't compile with JRE.
    Hey, there is a difference in reading a big
    article and asking someone who has already understood
    the concept.If you would have read the text on the buttons on the HOME (or START-)-Page of java.sun.com, your question about J2EE and J2SE would have been already answered.
    The question is, what it pays asking simple questions and get short answers. And if you do not know what J2SE, J2EE, JRE, SDK... are.. I do not believe, that you're really developing web applications in Java. And if I'm wrong it is much worse! That would meen someone's programming Java-applications without even knowing the basics!

  • What is the use of HFM workspace and Web service manager?

    Hi experts,
    Can any one explain me the difference between Hyperion Workspace - Agent Service and
    HFM-Web service manager?
    And how these services usefull for HFM workspace?

    Hi Chandu,
    I would recommend you take a look at the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide. It has all the answers to your questions. Here is the link:
