Using LED TV in another room?

I just got a large screen Samsung LED flat TV and it has all kinds of inputs including HDMI of course, ethernet and USB2.0 and can be used as a computer monitor.
The TV and my Mac Pro are in different rooms. Is it possible to hook up my computer to the TV so I can view and use my computer from either monitor? I currently have 2 monitors plugged into my computer so both ports are used.
I have cable internet and wireless router but since I have 2 unused ports and the rooms are close and adjacent I'd probably run an ethernet cable to where the TV is as hard wire is always best.
If this is at all possible, I assume I would need a wireless keyboard and mouse?

Unfortunately, like many HD TVs, the Samsung LED TV does not work well as a computer monitor when using HDMI. Even though it can handle 1080p, it will not work at 1080p from a computer with HDMI. It does work properly at 1080p from VGA.

You could add another graphics card to your Mac Pro and get a long VGA extension cable.

Get a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

  • Can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 Wireless Printer with the AirPort Extreme Base. The printer is NOT connected at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, and is placed in another room. It worked just fine with my previous router (Linksys WRT54G). Help me!

    Hey Guys!
I just got my AirPort Extreme Base, but I can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 wireless printer with it.
The printer is not connected to the AirPort Extreme's USB port. It is placed in another room, and I'd like to use it (the printer) wirelessly (not connected to the USB port os the AirPort Extreme), as I used to. There is no place for the printer close the AirPort Extreme. It worked just fine with my previous wireless router (Linksys WRT54G). I'm very disappointed with the AirPort Extreme Base Station because of that!...
    Can you help me? Please?!
    Thanks Folks!

This must be a tough one, no suggestions at all.

UEFI (unified extensible firmware interface) boot requires Global unique identifier Partition Table (GPT) as opposed to the older Master Boot Record (MBR). If your existing drive is formatted in MBR, you will need to adjust BIOS settings to enable legacy boot in order for it to work properly.
Is there a performance difference between GPT and MBR? If GPT is better, I do not mind formatting the drive with it.
    5. No special drivers are needed.
Thanks. What about the thunderbolt port?

Lenovo says 6 hours with the 6-cell battery on its website.

    Hi,
There was a serious BIOS/UEFI problem with that SSD . Perhaps this thread will save you some headaches. Someone is recomending shutting off Rapid Boot in the setup, which would probable mean little with a SSD, anyway.
I read through this, and it looks like the problem was fixed in a BIOS update, which I plan to do. However, it also seems like Intel Rapid Start is not even worth it in the first place, as sleep consumes almost no power at all.

  • Is there a way to connect an external speaker (for another room) through the headphone port

Is there a way to connect an external speaker (for another room) through the headphone port  & still hear sound through the internal speakers?  System Preferences/Sound/Output or Sound Effects allows you to use one or the other  --  headphones or internal speakers.  I would like to have the option of hearing music through the internal speakers in one room, & through an external speaker in another room at the same time.  I also do not want to frequently disconnect/reconnect the external speaker from/to the headphone port as I know over time the connection could become loose.  (10.7.4  Lion)

dont think so but I could be wrong
as it were I didn't like the build in audio so I connected some external logictech 2.1 speakers  but there
are times when I use headset so I bought this one
or any minijack splitter will work too so I have 2 things connected to the headset port works just fine

    No problem.
This is a user forum so you are not addressing Apple. There's nothing to fix, that's how home-sharing works. There would be no way for the ATV to recognize your library and display content if the computer is in sleep mode.
You can always airplay from an IOS device or use icloud if you don't wish to keep the computer on.

  • Tv aerial socket in another room - help!

I have set up my BT broadband Hub OK and have broadband........but now struggling with the TV vision box.  I've realised it may be because my tv aerial socket is in another room!!! and my tv donated by a friend has no aeriel cable with it.
I assume i have to connect the vision box to this aerial socket, so i need to buy an aerial.  Will i have to buy a really really long one and trail it through the house or is there a way to overcome this.
Any advice gratefully accepted - i am not technical and have no idea what to do or where to go
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you want to be able to watch and record Freeview TV channels then you are going to need a good external aerial to get a reliable signal. This will have to be connected to the aerial input of the BT Vision box.
If you just want to watch "on demand" content from BT Vision, then an aerial is not really needed.
Your TV will need to be connected to the BT Vision box via a SCART or HDMI connection.

  • Can I listen to iTunes Jazz Radio (Stream) in another room with Express?

    Hi.
I am using an 802.11 a/b/g/n Extream. I listen to iTunes Jazz Radio (Stream) on my Mac Pro. Can I listen to it with the help of an Airport Express pluged into a stereo in another room? Please help.
    Thank you.

Can I listen to it with the help of an Airport Express pluged into a stereo in another room?
Yes, you can use an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) for streaming iTunes audio sources. The AX would just need to be configured as a wireless client by joining the wireless network created by the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • How can I perform a factory reset on an Apple TV over a network from another room?

I would like to either perform a factory reset or erase user account information on a third generation Apple TV located in another room preferably over a network. This would allow me to manage the devices off site over IP with different people using the device and setting up their accounts for Netflix etc. Is this possible? I have heard of this being done without jailbreaking and I am curious to how they have done it.

Thanks Brian. It looks like the Apple Configurator app will reset settings and account info. I will look into third party apps as well. It needs to be as simple and quick as possible as we would be doing it daily to many ATVs.

  • 30 inch monitor ... extension cable? How to run moonitor in another room

I have a recording studio and have a quadcore and a 30 inch monitor. I'd like to run my tower in another room and put my monitor in the control room. Is there a correct extension cable that someone could refer me to?
The distance is about 30 feet or so.
    thanks!

now I have the same issue with my PPC G5 running 2 19" monitors. I think they're connected via VGA. Do i need a VGA booster as well to power those monitors appx 30 ft away?
A high quality VGA should work without a booster.

Call them to be sure. Tell them what resolution and refresh rate you will be using.

I have an existing new belkin modem router which works fine with quiet a few wired and wireless products in my house. My question is if i buy a time capsule can i put it in another room and wirelessly connect it to the belkin modem router, I would then just like my macbook pro and (imac future purchase) to wirelessly back up to it???????????

Your will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the TIme Capsule to clear out the current network settings and then reconfigure it to "join" your wireless network using the AirPort Utility setup application.
To perform the Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule....
Pull the power cord from the back of the device
    Wait a few moments
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule and keep holding it an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power cord back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 25-30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Continue
Follow the guided setup and choose the "join" option when it appears duriing the setup
You will need to know the exact type of wireless security that the Belkin router is using to enter this information during the setup of the Belkin. Otherwise, the Time Capsule cannot join the network, and you will receive an error message after the configuration process.

  • HD problems. moved DVR to another room

moved my DVR into another room, certain HD channels have pixels in the picture or some don't work.
tried rebooting and unplugging everything. same problem.
    please help. thank you

Sounds like the signal to the STB in the new room isn't right.  Check you coax connections very carefully.  Bad connections tend to effect certain QAM channels (frequencies) more than others.  If you used some sort of spliiter for the new run, make sure it's one that supports the Verizon frequencies.

  • My ipod 5th gen says it is connected to the internet and i can go on apps that require an internet connection but whe i try to use the weather or another app that uses your current location it cant find me???

My ipod 5th gen says it is connected to the internet and i can go on apps that require an internet connection but whe i try to use the weather or another app that uses your current location it cant find me???

If you open the Maps app where does that say you are located?
For location the iPod uses the location of nearby routers that are in Apple's database of routers and their location. Thus it appears that Apple's database is incorrect. You do not have to be connected to the router, just within range.
Apple periodically updates their database based on information they obtain from iPhones, The iPhone has to have turned on the option to send info to Apple. no one has found another way to get the location of a router added/corrected.
You can confirm that by going to well-know place with wifi like Starbucks or McDonalds

That's exactly what I tried to do, but the iPhoto librry doesn't show up in the pulldown menu. If I click "Choose Folder", the iPhoto library is greyed out and unable to be selected.
For some reason, iPhoto is an option in the pulldown library on my older iMac but not on my MacBook Pro. What gives?
