Using lighter adapter as power source safe for MBP?

Hi everyone,I had a question about lighter adapters for cars and using my MBP with them. I'm scheduled for a 14 hour road trip on Thursday and have a lot of work to do that requires more than the three hour battery life that I get from my Mac. My brother has a lighter adapter that acts as a "wall outlet" in that you can connect your AC supplies to it, etc. This is all well known probably. But my question is this, is it safe to use these adapters (I don't want to blow up my computer or mess up the battery) and does anyone have any experience with them?
Thanks in advance.

I don't know what a magsafe is. My wife bought this for another purpose: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=122461
Can I plug my MacBook Pro power cord into it and use in the car? Or do I need to go to a mac store and buy something from them?
Thanks,
Steve

  • Could macbook starts without battery by using adapter as power source!!??

    Hi all
    I have macbook black early 2008 model. My battery is damaged as it falls in water.
    I have experienced that If the adapter is plugged with macbook and macbook is on and then i remove the battery ...its remain on...
    My question is this that could macbook starts without battery using the power adapter as power source.
    Thanks

    Yes it will start and run. The downside is your MacBook will run slower and if you accidentally pull out the plug it will shut off immediately and you'll lose any work that hasn't been saved. I suggest replacing the battery when you can.

  • Possible to AVOID RECHARGING while using AC adapter to power up on Zen Tou

    Hi there,
    I would really want to know if there's a possibilty that I can use the supplied AC adapter only for powering up the Zen Touch, but not recharging the battery everytime I plug in the adapter?
    For example I've some amount of charge in the battery but want to spare that part for a walk outside in the afternoon. Meanwhile I want to power up my Zen with the AC adapter at home. But everytime I plug in the adapter, it starts to recharge. Well, recharging the battery when it's not fully empty would probably reduce its overall life. So what should I do?
    I saw a display symbol consisting of a "small plug" icon (not a "plug in a battery" icon) on the users guide with an explanation: "using AC adapter to power up"
    Is it possible? Thank you very much at all.
    Best Regards

    There's no way to disable it, but it's actually very good for Lithium Ion batteries to be charged in a shallow way. More here on batteries.

  • Is there any way to power this device using a 12V dc power source without using an inverter?

    I would like to know if there is a way to power the Time Capsule from a 12V dc power source without having to use an inverter?

    Oh man you are talking my language.
    Sure it is easy.. but you need to open the TC and replace the power supply..
    In fact that is my recommended repair method.
    https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair/repair-type3
    You will see the construction details there.. but there are even simpler modules now.
    And a link on that page to actual kits.
    Note carefully if you use 12v it has to be regulated 12v so you are supplying the hard disk directly. Otherwise you are better feeding the TC a higher voltage.. 14-19v eg a car battery or SLA setup.. do not connect that directly to the TC hard drive.. it could blow the hard disk. They are 12v usually with 10% tolerance.
    There is a kit for higher voltage input to create the 12v.. using buck boost supply module is also possible but much less efficient.

  • Report that uses web services as data source, prompts for database logon

    I have a crystal report that uses web services as a data source. When I deploy the report to Infoview it prompts me for a database username and password. Since I am not using a database it should not prompt me for these. I tried various options in the CMC->database settings for this report but it still prompts me for the database logon info or tells me that the database logon information is incorrect.
    The report work fine in the Crystal Reports Designer.
    Does anyone know how I can prevent this report from prompting me for the database logon info ?
    Thanks,

    What options have you tried in the CMC?
    Have you tried running the report in Crystal Reports installed directly on the Enterprise machine?

  • Is there a photo voltaic power source component for multisim 11?

    i am looking for a component for a photovoltaic cell source.does multisim 11 have anything like this.

    the best explination of the curcuit equivalent of a photo(solar cell) seems to be found in wiki
    solar cell perameters to out put current and voltage
    I = output current (amperes)
    IL = photogenerated current (amperes)
    V = voltage across the output terminals (volts)
    RS = series resistance (Ω).
    I0 = reverse saturation current (amperes)
    n = diode ideality factor (1 for an ideal diode)
    q = elementary charge
    k = Boltzmann's constant
    T = absolute temperature
    RSH = shunt resistance (Ω)
    then the edffected based on physical size of the cell
    J = current density (amperes/cm2)
    JL = photogenerated current density (amperes/cm2)
    J0 = reverse saturation current density
    (amperes/cm2)
    rS = specific series resistance (Ω-cm2)
    rSH = specific shunt resistance (Ω-cm2).
    not sure if this helps i will check with my professor on this matter as well.

  • Use of content rule vs source group for NATing

    To NAT outgoing flows out of two servers, is it necessary to define a content rule and source group (or is just a source group sufficient?).
    Having trouble with Option 2.
    Option 1:
    service svr1
    ip address 192.168.10.1
    no port
    protocol tcp
    active
    Also does CSS do NAPT i.e. alter the source port number for outgoing packets from source groups?
    service svr2
    ip address 192.168.10.2
    no port
    protocol tcp
    active
    content outflows
    protocol tcp
    add service svr1
    add service svr2
    vip address <externalip>
    active
    group outgrp
    vip address <external ip>
    add service svr1
    add service svr2
    active
    <add appropriate acl>
    Option 2:
    service svr1
    ip address 192.168.10.1
    no port
    protocol tcp
    active
    service svr2
    ip address 192.168.10.2
    no port
    protocol tcp
    active
    group outgrp
    vip address <external ip>
    add service svr1
    add service svr2
    active
    <add appropriate acl>

    to nat connections initiated by the server, you only need a source group.
    No need for a content rule.
    The CSS will port nat.

  • Can I use 24 inch iMac as a monitor for MBP

    I have a Mid 2007 iMac and want to use it as a monitor for a MacBook Pro or a Mac Air, is this possible??

    Yes, all Intel Macs can at some point offer screen sharing.  The faster the connection, the better the screen sharing speed.   Mac OS X 10.5 iChat offers screen sharing.  Mac OS X 10.6 and higher Sharing System Preferences offers Screen Sharing.   VNC is an alternative.  But it must initially be configured when both machines have working displays attached.  Once done, the machines that have their display shared don't need an external display.

  • Using a PC laptop as external monitor for MBP

    Hi!
    I just purchased my first mac. I want to have a dual monitor setup so I can have a bigger workspace when I design graphics on my Macbook Pro.
    Can I use my other laptop, which is a Toshiba, as an external monitor? The guy at Radioshack was worried that both the MBP and the PC laptop would try to send output signals and end up frying both video cards.
    Thanks!

    ScreenRecycler works very well. Contrary to what others have said on these boards, it is possible to use a second laptop as an external display.
    http://www.screenrecycler.com/home.html
    You will need a fast network connection between the two machines. Gigabit ethernet would be best, but performance is very good with 100 Mb. I wouldn't try using wireless to connect the machines - too much lag.

  • Visual Source Safe and RoboHelp for HTML

    Do you ever successfully use Visual Source Safe for RoboHelp
    for HTML? I got error when I checked out the file, looks like file
    format in RoboHelp is not supported in Visual Source Safe. Can
    somebody share the experience? Thanks a lot!

    Hey, Cathy!
    The RoboSource Control in X5 was "adequate" in its day. But
    remember, that was nearly 4 years ago
    The problem was that the "free" Access database was not
    really robust enough and to really make use of it, you need to use
    MS SQL Server, which is expensive.
    That was then. This is now. The RoboSource Control 3 that
    comes with RoboHelp 6 is WAY more better
    This is because, it allows you to use a free version of MS
    SQL Server Express for a much more robust database.
    So my advice would be to upgrade to RoboHelp 6 for sure. It's
    not just hype. If for some reason you can't upgrade, then you might
    be able to get away with the Access Database given that there are
    only two of you. Since you already have it, you could create a
    little test bed project and try it out. (I have a suggestion for
    how to do that in my article. See link below)
    For the lowdown on RoboSource Control 3 see this Matthew
    Ellison's fine article
    Getting
    started with RoboSource Control 3 in RoboHelp 6
    If you're interested in the "old" RoboSource Control that
    comes with X5, you can check out my article to get you started.

  • How to use Database adapter as inbound adapter without having polling strategies?

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement wherein I have to use Database adapter to retrieve the data for every half an hour from one(X app) database and update that data into another application(Y app) .That database adapter will be along with BPEL process. My Flow would be like this:
    Database Adapter( In 'exposed services' section) ----->   BPEL (in 'Components') -----> Y app service( in 'External References' section)
    My questions for each step are below
         1) I have to retrieve the data from database(x app database) for every half an hour.So I have to schedule my whole process such that it should execute for every half an hour.
    Means I have to get  whatever the data is updated in the last half an hour in that database.
          The database adapter should be inbound in SOA composite editor(in 'Exposed services' section).
    But in order to have inbound adapter,we have select the 'Poll for New or Changed Records in a Table' option in turn we have to select one of polling operations below:
             Delete the Row(s) that were Read
    Update a Field in the [Table_Name] Table (Logical Delete)
    Update a Sequencing Table
    Update an External Sequencing Table on a Different Database
    Control Table Strategy
    But the problem is I don't have any control on the database(X app database) ,So (I can't update any data on that table, because that table may not have a field or table to update the processed rows)I can't choose any of the above operations.
    How can I achieve what I want that is to retrieve the data and schedule the process?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Heckler,
      Thank you very much for your answer that I can proceed further somehow.
    I still need to have some clarifications.
    In order to have a process which retrieves the data (Inbound operation) and updates the data into other application, the data(from X app)  should be the request(through DB adapter) of the BPEL process.
    X app does not do anything to send.We have(the BPEL process) to receive the data (or) no event is triggered.
    The flow :
    Database Adapter( In 'exposed services' section to retrieve data) ----->   BPEL (in 'Components') -----> Y app service( in 'External References' section)
    How can we ensure the data will be  request to BPEL process(means it will be in 'exposed services' section in SOA composite editor) for every half an hour if we use pick activity and database adapter as first activity?
    When we use ''Poll for New or Changed Records in a Table' ,then only adapter becomes inbound and comes into the 'exposed services' section.I can't use it as I don't have any control on the source table.
    I have this confusion before starting the process. Please help me to clear out the doubts.
    And this whole process should be executed automaticallly for every half an hour(means it creates instance for every half an hour)  Once we build the BPEL process.
    How to schedule it?
    And where do I need to create control table ?You mean I have to use some different database where in I have to create the table?

  • Broken Topic Links in RH8 with Source Safe

    I'm using RH8 with Source Safe for version control. Whenever I open a project and RH retrives the files from Source Safe (on a network drive), I get a ton of boken links.
    When I check the project folder on my local drive, all of the files are there, but RH is not reporting them correctly. RH easily fixed the links by selecting > restore. Then I save, then compile and check in all the project files, close the project.
    When I re-open the project in a new directory, the same links are broken again.
    Why do these links keep failing?

    If the path is "c:\file.htm" this is an absolute path and means that the path only works if the source files are located in the same location (i.e in a location where the C: drive can be found. A path of "file.htm" is a relative path and means it is relative to where the source files are. In other words it doesn't matter where the source files are located, the path will work because it is "inside" the source file structure.

  • MS Source Safe Addin?

    I am sure this has been asked a million times already...but does anyone have an add-in for MS Source Safe for Jdeveloper?
    I would REALLY hate to spend a week or 2 trying to figure out the java doc and write one for myself if someone would be so kind to post one.
    I think it is absolutely crazy that Oracle released an IDE like this without support for PVCS and MS SS.
    Thanks....

    See the following discussion group post for information on the custom addins:
    http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum86/HTML/000174.html
    You could also use Oracle's own source control system (Oracle Repository) rather than Visual Source Safe. This has a much tighter level of integration with JDeveloper. See
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/repository/demos/jdevviewlets_viewlet.html
    for a demo.

  • Java Source Safe

    Im working on a project for school. Were goin to be writing files and exchanging files ofte. In windows or linux is there anything like visual source safe for java to check in and out files?

    I left my last job after a few weeks because they
    asked me to run a presentation on why they should
    move from VSS to SVN, and then gave me a hard time
    because they didn't like being told theshortcomings
    of VSS. idiotsWhat were they looking for ??
    VSS is great but SVN is incredible ?no idea. didn't even bother to follow it up, I just decided they weren't for me. I think the exact phrase the dev. director used was "I'd prefer if you didn't try to bully us into using SVN by telling us how bad VSS is" which I didn't, anyway. I only mentioned that VSS has had known problems with large repositories, and provided a screen-shot to demonstrate. I think the truth of the matter was - judging by the instant complaints from nearly all developers - that they couldn't get their heads around concurrent access to source code. try as I would, they never quite got over the fact that file-locking isn't a sure-fire way to ensure nobody corrupts anybody elses code
