Using Lightroom or PS On The Move

I currently do 95% of my LR or PS work on a fast desktop with loads of storage RAM and NAS drive backups etc.
My job has changed and I find myself away from home in hotels frequently and I want to be able to view / browse my catalogues, pick individual pictures and edit remotely.
Given that I could store my catalogue on a separated drive and take it with me would I need to continue with a windows based Laptop or can I use an MacBook ?

    Hi .
Apple no longer supports Safari for Windows if that's what you are asking >  Apple apparently kills Windows PC support in Safari 6.0
Microsoft has not written IE for Safari for many years.

Im trying to bring a movie from imovie to a pc using a flash drive, but the movie file (.mov) will not play on a pc. help!

I would like to offer you some additional hair, but I've pulled mine out as well.  I have created a slideshow of my daughter's new house (a very nice place indeed) as a house-warming gift, took all the pix myself with a throw-away camera made into CD's, imported all of the photos, cropped and enhanced with Iaza online free photo editor, re-saved the new ones to a folder, imported the selected ones into iPhoto, had the best thematic photo printed in 8x10 format, bought the black DVD's, made the MPEG-4 movie as well as the suggested exportable to iPhone, created a folder with the slides, crafted a nice playlist in iTunes, merged it all in iPhoto, but cannot successfuly export it into iDVD. The technical documentation and writing for some of this stuff is sloppy and sometimes unintelligible. The instructional videos are incomplete. The One-on-One fellow was most helpful the other day and said Apple doesn't really have or support an functional DVD creation tool and suggested I choose one or another "app" at the "app store", but the reviews for the two major ones are shallow in depth and I haven't yet sprunf for the $20-$40 download so I can re-experience the difficult learning curve. The Macintoshs I once used were incredibly intuitive; the iMac requires some study. The slideshow I have is imperfect becauae it keeps reverting to custom slide-specific choices I have decided (several times) that I do not want, but it keeps slipping back into "Ken Burns" mode and some of the photos don't work in that mode because of their format. But I will settle for less-than-perfect if I can figure out the best way to export the MPEG-4 I have created into a Maxell DVD-R some time before my daughter's toddlers aged 4 and 2 get into kindergarten.

  • Using LR or PSE on the move

I currently do most of my editing at home on fast desktop PC
My job has changed and i'm spending a lot of time away from home great for photography but leaves little time to catalogue and edit etc.
I want to be able to access my catalogues, PSE and LR copy and edit even add files etc then when I get home I want the results to sync.
Can I use a separate portable HD and take catalogue with me ?
If I do I assume as desktop is PC not MAC I need a windows based laptop not a Mac air etc ?
Or is there an easier way ?

  • LR - Using Lightroom with Two Monitors | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this episode of The Complete Picture, Julieanne Kost shows you how to use 2 monitors to take advantage of Lightroom's dual monitor solution.

This was helpful, Julieanne, however, I have one more question on custom sort order. I am trying to sort a Collection that is made up of photos from several different import files. It's a vacation collection where I have created a different file for each day of the vacation as well as by who took the photos. So i have a file for my daughter's shots, my shots, my son's, etc, to keep things organized. Now that i have selected the "best of" from each original import file, I have created a new User Collection where I am putting them all together. The problem is, my entire Collection won't sort. I want to sort them all by capture time, but LR keeps grouping them by the original file source, and only sorting by capture time within each group. Can you help?

  • Should I use Lightroom or Bridge? | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this episode of the Complete Picture, Julieanne Kost helps you decide which application is right for your workflow by explaining the differences between Lightroom and Bridge for managing images and assets.
    http://adobe.ly/zi93Ct

Lightroom 4 supports Soft Proof capability that also lets you see an accurate histogram for different output RGB spaces. Lightroom 5 now also supports under 'Edit In' > 'Open As Smart Object in Photoshop.'
I agree the tutorial was excellent, thank you very much. I would just like to add that there is no reason why you can't use both Lightroom and Adobe Bridge for"digtal asset management." Keyword metadata added in LR can be written to the file or XMP sidecar using CTRL+S keys that will appear in Adobe Bridge and vice-versa. I do most of my InDesign layout image processing using LR, but keep track of ALL my project assests using Bridge. Keywords are added using BOTH applications with no issues to date.

  • How to sync the video to my iPad using Lightroom Mobile

    HI,
I wonder how to sync the video to my iPad using Lightroom Mobile. At the moment seems those video files have not been uploaded. I got all my still images downloaded to the iPad except video files.
Hope someone here can help. I am trying to use Lightroom to replace iPhoto. This is the only thing bothering me.
    Thanks.

  • Problems using Lightroom wtih external Hard Disks

I having some problems with the latest Lightroom 1.2.
I import images (NEF+JPEG) onto my internal hard drive and everything is fine. Images look good and thumbnails display NEF+JPEG at the top right.
However , as soon as I move them onto an external drive (using lightroom) I start to have problems. First the thumbnails display JPEG+JPEG. Then all the images become wildly oversaturated and contrasty without me doing anything. Moving the images back to the internal HD (using lightroom again) causes only the JPEG files to be moved back. Of course the wild colour stays the same.
FYI I am using a Macbook Pro, 2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.10. External HD is 500GB with 150GB free

mmm, I have a similar problem - I bought a hard drive as my i-tunes library was eating up space on my laptop. It was fine at first, but now when I add cds it updates my i-pod no problem, but if I try to create playlists it says it can't find the tracks. I've tried consolidating my library but it didn't work. I'd be interested to know if any of the helpful suggestions you get work.
Good luck and sorry I can't do anything other than sympathise.

  • Unable to find all the movies I have purchased

hi.  My account history shows all the movies I have purchased, but only a few of them show in iTunes.  Does anyone know how to solve this?

Are you looking at the main movies list or the list of movies under "Computer"?  Have you changed the AppleId that is being used.  Did you deleete the movies in iTunes?

You must get the movie onto your iPad somehow. If you download it while on Wi-Fi you will not use cellular data. Once the movie has been downloaded you will not use cellular data or Wi-Fi.

  • Using Lightroom in conjunction with Nikon Capture NX

I hate Nikon Capture NX. However, it's by far the easiest way to "defish" shots taken with the 10.5 mm lens (i.e., straighten them out so that they don't have the wildly curved lines of a fisheye shot). I want to use Capture to convert the fisheye shots to rectinlinear shots, BUT I WANT TO DO ALL OTHER PROCESSING (EXPOSURE, WHITE BALANCE, ETC.) IN LIGHTROOM!
And I can't figure out how to do that. If I open a TIFF exported from Lightroom, Capture won't give me the fisheye-straightening option; it seems to demand that the input be in the form of a .NEF. O.K., so I tried exporting a fisheye shot from Lightroom with the "Original" option selected from the drop-down menu. That gave me a .NEF, which Capture was willing to deal with--but it discarded all the processing I'd done in Lightroom.
Can anybody explain to me how to use Lightroom AND Capture on the same file, converting a fisheye shot to a rectilinear shot in Capture but doing all other processing in Lightroom?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
P.S. Oops, I almost forgot: I'm using Lightroom 1.4 and Capture NX 1.3 on an iMac with OS X 10.4.11.

Jao, thanks for the speedy reply. I'm sorry to hear that it can't be done; I've tried processing a TIFF in Lightroom, but it works rather differently from the way processing a .NEF works, and the results just don't look good to me.
I guess I'll have to find another way to defish. I tried doing it with PTGui, but that got quite complicated.
    The search continues. . . .

  • Determining what the .MOV file settings are.

I have a program on my iMac I run to create slideshows and it creates .MOV files. I then transfer these .MOV files up to my website so people can see the slideshows.
On a older version of the program I use, when I look at the .MOV files on my iMAC (through the website) the video starts playing immediately and the download bar slowly fills up.
On the new version of the program I use, the .MOV file doesn't start playing on my iMAC until the file is completely downloaded.
I looked at the settings (to the best of my ability) with QuickTime Pro, and don't see anything obvious that is different. THe file created with the new version of the software is about 300K larger.
I am assuming there is a flag or something different between the two files. Is there any utility I can use which will take a .MOV file and list out the QuickTime settings for it?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

For some more information.....I am using Boinx softwares Fotomagico product. I placed both versions of the file created here: http://www.longnecker.me
For the .MOV file that was created with version 2.6.2 the show starts playing immediately.
For the .MOV file that was created with version 3.0.4, the show takes awhile before playing.
The difference is even more when the file is larger. The website, and the embed code is the same. THe only difference is the version of the Fotomagico software.
Any thoughts on why/how the file is different?

I just installed LR CC and am having trouble opening catalogs where I followed the instructions to upgrade.  Just posted a question about it.
Discovered a problem when I went looking for some images that were not included in the most recent catalog.  After opening up a couple of older ones and upgrading, I went back to the most recent and couldn't opening.  Message says it is not writable.  And also says it may be due to incorrect permissions.  If you have any suggestions for this, I would love to hear them.

Hi, I am having a little trouble with exporting images to another drive and Catalogue and need some help if anyone can give me some advice
I am currently using Lightroom 5.6 and operating on a Mac with OSX Ver 10.9.5.
I am receiving an error problem when doing the following -
I am exporting selected photos from a particular Catalogue saved on Drive 1 to a folder created on another Drive where a Lightroom Catalogue has been created. In this Catalogue I have arranged for the images once exported to be moved to a different folder - I used the Auto Import process under the File dialogue box.
When processing the Export I receive an error message for each of the images being exported indicating the following -
    Heading Import Results
Some import operations were not performed
Could not move a file to requested location. (1)
then a description of the image with file name
    Box Save As                                  Box  OK
If I click the OK button to each image I can then go to the other Catalogue and all images are then transferred to the file as required.
To click the OK button each time is time consuming, possibly I have missed an action or maybe you can advise an alternative method to save the time in actioning this process.
Thanks if you can can help out.

Thank You, but this is a gong show. Why is something that is so important to us all so very, very difficult to do?

I understand I can use lightroom on up to two computers as long as I am not running them at the same time. My question is, can I uninstall it from my current laptop and install it on two new computers?

Yes, you can do that. To be in compliance with the Lightroom license, it needs to be installed on only two computers. But there is no activation/deactivation process for Lightroom. So it will be fine for you to install Lightroom 5 on both of your new computers. This document might help you in making the move:
