Using line out audio cause mac pro 1,1 freeze

Hello,
I have upgrade mac pro 1,1 osx from tiger to snow leopard (update to 10.6.8 - clean install))
Why every time I connect my speaker to line out cause system freeze/crash?
But if using internal speaker, there is no problem.
here the logs:

So I have to reboot manual with holding power button, but cannot load osx (blank screen), I try to hold smc reset button, don't work too.
So I unplug and plug the memory raiser, so finally everything back to normal. It can loading osx snow leopard normally.
So what is the problem?
Thank you,
David

It's a hardware fault. I suggest you make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have it tested. It's a free service. The repair won't be free, but if it's something simple, such as a bad memory module, you may be able to fix it yourself.

At this moment, that's correct. The OS X license included with a Mac can only be used with that Mac. However, in the case the OP has purchased OS X Mountain Lion in the past, this may change

When I work with a drive to boot many computers, I use the newest model computer I will be booting, and set the system up on that, run all the Apple updates. Normally I will have no issue booting any older computer with the same drive. Unless of course those older computers do not support the operating system on that drive.
If you want to test if the drive will boot the mac mini. Put your MacBook Pro into target mode. Connect the two computers together. And on the Mac Mini, go into system preferences and then under start up disk and see if the target disk mode computer's drive shows up there. Seelct that drive and restart. See if it boots ok. A bit easier then taking the drives out and moving things around.

  • No line out audio via dock connector

    I have a Sendstation pocketdock:
    http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pocketdock/lineout-usb.html
I use the line out with other iPods including 4G ipod and 2G Nano with no problems.
But when I use the same Pocketdock with the iPhone, audio does not go through the line out, audio keeps coming out of the iPhone.
Is there a way to force audio out the dock/line out?

    Folks,
on Nov. 29, 2007 we have begun shipping a revised PocketDock Line Out USB, which is now iPhone-enabled. We have also revised the 1/8" stereo plugs on the included cables, so they are now thin enough to fit the iPhone’s recessed headphone jack.
Note that not all retailers might have the newest stock, so if you want to be on the safe side, either ask for which revision they sell (the iPhone-option is mentioned on the packaging) or order directly from http://www.sendstation.com.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Time Machine should be enough to make a backup of your files. Also, it should back up all folders, so open System Preferences > Time Machine > Options, and make sure that there are no folders included in the excluded items list.
If you want to create a bootable clone of your hard drive, you need to use an app like Carbon Copy Cloner or the Disk Utility's Restore feature > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html

  • I use line out sound but the sound does not stay on when I start up

I use external speakers with my Mac Pro.  However, since I upgraded to Yosemite (with latest upgrades), I have to use the desktop icon to turn on the sound every day.  Alternately, I can uncheck the mute box in Preferences.  Somehow, the mute button is set when I start up.  How can I keep the mute button off?

How long do you wait for the display to come up?  Can take several seconds during the boot process.  Have you tried a safe mode start by holding the shift key down during startup?

How to use a webcam on a mac pro?

    Generally, plug it in.
The OS should notice most major webcams, although you might need to install some software from the vendor to make it work. You'll need to check specific make/models for compatibility.
Once it's connected it should be available in any application that supports video input.

I am afraid if the icons will also blow up/get bigger and would become inconvinient to use.

most large TV sets are still 1080p (1920 by 1080).
The icons will appear to take up more space (in square inches) on the TV, but will be "grainy" compared to your monitor. The fundamental size of icons and items on screen (in pixels) will not change. When you return to using a monitor, things will be the same as before.

  • Line out audio through dock connection

Does the nano have line out audio through the dock connector? The threads I've read here have conflicting information. The tech specs at http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html do not list this for the nano so I'm assuming NOT...and that my Sik Imp (http://www.sik.com/imp.php) won't work with the nano.
    Anyone?

I suspect a documentation artifact here...
Apple originally supplied the dock std with iPod, but then subsequently removed it to make it an add-on accessory. Someone likely forgot to remove the mention in std iPod features, and also correctly did not include it in nano. The nano dock has an audio line out, just as all other docks before it since 3g.

  • Mac Pro 5,1 Freezes & Pinwheels at Boot, Corrupt Font to Blame?

Hello, all. This is my first post on the Apple Support communities as I have a very strange issue that seems to be nowhere else on the Internet, so I'll ask it here before running off to my local Genius Bar.
I'm running a Mac Pro Mid 2010, with a 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Xeon and 16GB DDR3 RAM. The only aftermarket/third-party component I have installed is a Blackmagic Intensity Pro internal video capture device, which, to my knowledge, works perfectly.
I am currently typing this on my third re-install of Mountain Lion, as I have not been able to advance to the login screen after I boot my Mac Pro, due to freezing and the spinning pinwheel.
I may have an idea what's causing this issue, but I'm not sure how to pinpoint it, remove it or figure out what to do. It may be tied to a conflicting Geneva font, located in (my name) > Library > Fonts. This is not the "True" Geneva font, as that is located in the System > Library > Fonts folder on my primary hard drive. This "impostor" Geneva has a ".ttf" file extension while the original Geneva's extension is .dfont.
Here's an image of the window that pops up:
Before the problem happened (and before the boot freezing happened), I selected "Move To Trash" and thought nothing of it, seeing as though it's a fairly standard warning message.
On my first re-installation, I selected "Move To Trash". I did not see the font in the trash but had other files there and securely emptied it. I rebooted shortly afterward and the system locked up/pinwheeled before the login screen. On my second re-installation, I selected "Ignore Conflict" but I ended up with the same result. Notice the impostor "Geneva" seems to have a lock near its filename. Maybe this is what's holding it up.
The only other common message OSX gives me on each installation is a prompt to install a Java SE 6 Runtime, but it seems to be through the standard Apple Software Update so I doubt it's anything that would corrupt an installation.
These font conflicts stem from fonts that I transferred over from my old PC when I first bought my Mac Pro after Christmas in 2010. No issues have surfaced until now other than minor aesthetic issues that were easily resolved.
Now, I'm left with a dilemma (which is what brought me here). I need to find a way to resolve this, as I think this issue may be what's holding my computer up. I've done research and found that tampering with system fonts will cause your Mac to crash at startup. I'm a freelance video producer so this has been causing me more than a few headaches when attempting to do my work, so I'm scurrying for a result ASAP.
I've tried nearly every method of fixing the issue...repairing my boot disk, verifying/repairing permissions, resetting my password and resolving ACL conflicts,  unsuccessfully trying Safe Mode, resetting PRAM and now re-installing Mac OSX. This is most likely an issue on the OS end --- my hardware is working properly, its S.M.A.R.T. status is verified, and permission/disk repair/verify shows no errors. I also have a Boot Camp partition that runs flawlessly --- I can even access folders and files on my Mac from the Windows parition, so it's probably not an issue of a dying hard drive. There's something screwy preventing me from logging in, and short of the first boot after re-installing Mountain Lion, there hasn't been a way to log in normally.
I'd rather not reformat my entire startup drive because of what could be one file conflict, as I have a lot of personal data and presets I'd like to keep. Nevertheless, I have an appointment at my Apple Store's Genius Bar set up for Friday but I'm leaving it as a worst-case scenario as I'd much rather pinpoint these issues myself.
If you've made it this far, thank you for reading this long post. I wanted to be as specific as possible regarding the strange issues happening with my Mac Pro. Hopefully someone has a suggestion out there that doesn't involve reformatting as I'm 90% sure this boot error has to deal with this system font conflict. The other 10% wonders what needs to be done.
    Thanks in advance!

First check that you still can't boot as usual. If you can't, see below.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as certain other aspects of the configuration that may have a bearing on the problem. Don’t be alarmed by the apparent complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode, if possible. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing. If you can only boot in safe mode, you can still use this procedure, but not all of it will work. Be sure to mention that in your reply, if you haven't already done so.
Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. The commands are safe and do nothing but produce human-readable text output, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. I am not asking you to trust me. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
The commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. Step 1 should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PB="/u*/*/Pl* -c Print"; { echo Loaded kernel extensions:; kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'; echo $'\nLoaded user agents:'; launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)|\.[0-9]+$/{print $3}'; echo $'\nInserted libraries:'; launchctl getenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES; echo $'\nUser cron tasks:'; crontab -l; echo $'\nGlobal launchd configuration:'; cat /e*/lau*; echo $'\nPer-user launchd configuration:'; cat .lau*; echo $'\nGlobal login items:'; $PB /L*/P*/loginwindow.plist | awk -F'= ' '/Path/{print $2}'; echo $'\nPer-user login items:'; $PB L*/P*/com.apple.loginitems.plist | awk -F'= ' '/Path/{print $2}'; echo $'\nSafari extensions:'; $PB L*/Saf*/*/E*.plist | awk -F'= ' '/Bundl/{print $2}' | sed 's/\..*$//;s/-[1-9]$//'; printf "\nRestricted user files: %s\n" $(find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) | wc -l); echo $'\nExtrinsic loadable bundles:'; cd; find -L /S*/L*/E* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,In,Keyb,Mail/Bu,P*P,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo}* -type d -name Contents -prune | while read d; do /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c 'Print :CFBundleIdentifier' "$d/Info.plist" | egrep -qv "^com\.apple\.[^x]|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|HDPro|HighPoint|driver\.stex|hp-fax|JMicron|print|SoftRAID" && echo ${d%/Contents}; done; echo $'\nUnsigned shared libraries:'; find /u*/{,*/}lib -type f -exec sh -c 'file -b $1 | grep -qw shared && ! codesign -v $1' {} {} \; -print; echo; ls -A {,/}L*/{La,Priv,Sta}* L*/Fonts; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A TextEdit window will open with the output. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
Remember that you must be logged in as an administrator for this step. Do as in Step 1 with this line:
    { echo "Loaded system agents:"; sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo $'\n'"Login hook:"; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo $'\n'"Root cron tasks:"; sudo crontab -l; echo $'\n'"Log check:"; syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    You can then quit Terminal.
To prevent confusion, I'll repeat: When you type your password in the Terminal window, you won't see what you're typing.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, set one before taking Step 2. If that’s not possible, skip the step.
Important: If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output of these commands, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
Remember, Steps 1 and 2 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output as text, not as a screenshot.
Please post the contents of the TextEdit window, not the Terminal window.

I have the latest versions of OS 10.7.5, SoundFlower and LineIn freshly (re)installed.
SoundFlower is notorious for causing OSX problems. Not familiar with Lineln, but would search for anyone else having compatability issues with Lion if I were you.

  • No more audio out on my Mac Pro!

Abruptly, my Mac's line out jack (and internal speaker) has stopped making sound! An external Firewire audio interface works just fine.
    Things I've tried:
    *Restarting the computer
*Unplugging the jack that I had permanently connected from the line out in the back to my speakers -- to verify that there's no sound coming out of the internal speaker
    *Making sure volume's not muted
*Going into System Prefs > Sound and mucking with things -- routing audio elsewhere, trying system beeps, etc. Not a peep...errrr....beep.
*Routing all system audio through my Firewire audio interface. This works fine -- audio does get sent out correctly through that interface. However, I need my Mac's line out to work.
Bottom line, anything that's being sent out of the line out is not coming out anywhere -- not the internal speaker, not the line out jack.
Any ideas what could cause this? Any ideas for things to try?

when i wiggle the front jack i get the sound back.
With that stement I would say it is a faulty jack except for the fact that you say it happens in the back jack too.  I suppose a fault in one could affect the other.  Other than replacing the faulty jack I see no solution.

  • No sound out of my MAC PRO Optical Digital audio port

I own a Mac Pro early 2007, running MAC OS X Ver 10.6.7
I also have  a set of Logitech Speakers Z5500 connected to the Optical digital port
    No problem ever until now
Suddenly I am not getting any sound out my Mac Pro.
The speaker are testing fine, the volume is set correctly and in the system preferences, in the Sound function the device is selected for Digital Out.
I am at my rope's end.
    Any help will be appreciated
    Thanks

  • Line-out audio problems.

Can Apple please solve this: The line-out (and/or headphone-out, or default-out) on my 2010 Mac Pro just stops working on a daily basis. I use SoundFlower and LineIn apps as directed and they work fine on all internal sound-generating apps like iTunes, EyeTV HD, SoundStudio, etc. But audio coming in through the built-in audio line-in jack stops working at some point every day, or overnight. Sound control panel shows audio is getting into the computer, and LineIn app shows input and output, but I don't hear sound through the Mac's Line or headphone output.
The "fix" is to keep switching inputs, outputs, quit and relaunch both SoundFlower and LineIn apps and, eventually, sound will return to the line and headphone output jacks on the Mac Pro. ( Switching here means choosing on-screen options, not physically replugging, which I have tried also to no avail!)
As as active, professional composer/arranger, having to go through this ritual for 10 - 30 minutes every day before I can start working is becoming a major annoyance!
I have read posts elsewhere where users complain of this same problem (though more often on a MacBOOKPro than on a MacPro) and it almost seems like this is a bug is in the Mac OS since OS 10.4, but it has not yet been solved or otherwise addressed by Apple.
Can someone alert Apple to work on this, or has someone else found the cause and/or solution?
I have the latest versions of OS 10.7.5, SoundFlower and LineIn freshly (re)installed.
Rebooting does not solve the problem. Only the playing around with inputs/outputs I describe above.
I have run Disk Repair and the HD is fully verified OK and all permissions have been repaired and read as correct.
As I have said, I can get everything working just fine, then leave the computer for the evening, and when I try to return to work the next morning, the problem is back.
I leave the computer fully on (no sleep) and I shut the monitor off as opposed to putting it to sleep so, on paper, nothing should be resetting itself, yet it does.
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you.

  • Lightroom 5 color labels appear dark causing mac pro monitor(s) to go black, have to restart, get a kernel panic os 10.7 5

I have a Mac Pro 12 core, with a Nvidia Quadro Pro 4000 video card. I have been using lightroom with this video card since 2011 without a problem. I updated to os 10.7.5, which apple says it is the latest f  and now when i use lightroom (after about 15 minutes),  my monitor goes black, which i am sure is a video card issue which involves lightroom settings, and i have to restart my system. After restart I get a kernel panic report. I unistalled lightroom, and had no crashes. I reinstalled it and i started to get computer crashes again. (not lightroom crashes but computer  -) When i open lightroom, the color labels appear saturated and much darker than usual. I took a screenshot www.jlanceimaging.com/lrscreenshot.jpg.
Since updating to 10.7.5 i have had this issue with lightroom and the video card.
I also went into photoshop an unchecked the graphics processor but still got the crashes.
and last;y, i opened up lightroom 4 and had no problems

You don't say what, if anything, you have done to test, resolve or rule out causes, so you can always assume hard restarts, freezes, and not safe shutdowns will make for more problems (corrupt files, file system, directory, etc).
Running Apple Hardware Test; Reset SMC; repairing your drives; ruling out cables, controllers, external devices, even drivers for printers and other devices.
If you are on a UPS, it should be 1000VA or larger (1300-1500VA). If there are other devices and you could be exceeding the load on circuit breaker, also worth looking into and sometimes requires adding a new circuit line.
