Using Lion and sharing my screen to multiple computers (8) produces a LOT of lag.. HELP!

I am using Lion and Remote desktop.. I want to share my screen with 8-12 other computers.. I am a teacher and have a brand new iMac lab but the screen share is too laggy or pretty much freezes at times.  HELP!!!!

I thought that wirless N is 300 mb a second?  and G is 54.
A wired option is not possible due to the setup needed.. also, I usually only share my screen with 8 computers not the full 12.
Any help would be useful! .. I think there is a bug in Remote desktop because i sometimes try to share my screen with 3 computers and have the same problem.

    Hi,
I presume that the new configuration is missing some parts as you seem to have the IP address of the external interface configured staticly on the interface but you have not configured any default route on the firewall? (Original configuration got default route dynamically and added it to the routing table)
You also mentioned that you were able to connect to the Internet which would indicate there was indeed a default route with the new configuration?
I am a bit confused about the host mask on the external interface (/32 - 255.255.255.255) ? Does the ASA really let you configure a host address on the interface? It can't lead anywhere as there is no next hop with a host mask. I think the ASA even blocks using a /31 mask link network which works with Cisco Routers.
I guess I would go through the basic troubleshooting step when the new configuration is in use
Check logs for any blocked connections or error messages
Check the Static PAT (Port Forward) configuration with the "packet-tracer" command
Capture traffic on the ASAs external interface (with the ASA itself) and confirm that you are seeing the TCP SYN of any connection attempts, or perhaps capture ICMP

  • Mac OS X Lion and sharing hard disc

    Hi,
I have iMac with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and I used sharing of external hard discs where I have pictures and movies for my multimedia player. In Leopard it was so easy - just choose folder or hard disk, click info and put a sing on sharing and that was it. No need for passwords, usernames or anything else. They I instaled Mac OS Lion and all the **** gone wrong. The sharing like in Leopard doesnt work anymore, it just asking for CIFS user name and password. Nothing is working and nothing can be done, I tried hundered times. Now, I am back on Leopard as it is easier to use and no solution is provided still 10.7.2. patch is out but no difference.
Anybode has a clue what can be done to get sharing on Lion to working? Tried diferent solutions on google but no luck.
    thanks

well, first thing i would do is update to 10.7.1 see if that helps at all
also right click on the doc. folder and get yourself to SHOW VIEW option
see if everything there is checked to assist in the way you want things
i don't claim to be any kind of expert but, i would strongly suggest checking all your preferences..customization seems to be a pretty strong suit in Lion
in system prefs there are a lot of places to check/uncheck as far as gestures!!
also read some of the tips from TUAWB & Cult of Mac..good tips there
good luck! don't give up New is always a pain at first, but think how great you will feel having mastered this new process!!
Here's a reference for the other ones:
BTW, i changed the scrolling from opposite to same direction scrolling
( check/uncheck Scroll direction / NATURAL) also found in prefs
    1 Finger Gestures
    Tap to Click
    Cursor movement     Up/down  Left/Right
    2 Finger Gestures
    Scroll                          Up/Down  Left/Right
    Secondary Click -       Tap
    Zoom -                        Pinch / Spread
    Smart Zoom -             Double tap
    Rotate -                       Rotate
    Forward/Back Pages - Swipe Left/Right

    Show Desktop -         Spread
    Mission Control -     Swipe Up
    Expose -                  Swipe down
    Swap Desktops -     Swipe Left/Right
    * Some Definitions can be Changed in System Preferences
The following options are now in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse and TrackPad tab > Trackpad options….

  • Call transaction CJIC using bdcdata and skip first screen

I want to call transaction CJIC and skip first screen. I have set parameters for fields for which I need to pass data. But one field namely display variant has no parameter id. How can I pass value to it and also skip first screen?
I have tried passing its value in bdcdata and also passing ONLI. But it does not run in mode "N". What can be the solution?

    Hi frnd,
fortunately transaction CJIC is selection-screen of an executable program RKPEP012.......so u don hav to use call transaction and instead u can use SUBMIT statement................
    submit RKPEP012 WITH SELECTION-TABLE rspar
    Effect
If you specify this addition, parameters and selection criteria on the selection screen are supplied from an internal table rspar. You must specify an internal table with the row type RSPARAMS for rspar. The structured data type RSPARAMS is defined in the ABAP Dictionary and has the following components, all of which are data type CHAR:
    SELNAME (length 8),
    KIND (length 1),
    SIGN (length 1),
    OPTION (length 2),
    LOW (length 45),
    HIGH (length 45).
To supply parameters and selection criteria for the selection screen with specific values, the lines in the internal table rspar must contain the following values:
SELNAME must contain the name of a parameter or selection criterion for the selection screen in block capitals
KIND must contain the type of selection screen component (P for parameters, S for selection criteria)
SIGN, OPTION, LOW, and HIGH must contain the values specified for the selection table columns that have the same names as the selection criteria; in the case of parameters, the value must be specified in LOW and all other components are ignored.
If the name of a selection criterion is repeated in rspar, this defines a selection table containing several lines and passes it on to the selection criterion. If parameter names occur several times, the last value is passed on to the parameter.
The contents of the parameters or selection tables for the current program can be entered in the table by the function module RS_REFRESH_FROM_SELECTOPTIONS.
    Notes
In contrast to selection tables, the data types of the components LOW and HIGH in table rspar are always of type CHAR and are converted to the type of the parameter or selection criterion during transfer, if necessary.
When entering values, you must ensure that these are entered in the internal format of the ABAP values, and not in the output format of the screen display.
    Revert back for queries.
    Cheers,
    Will.

  • How do I get CS6 to not distort color when using Lion and printing from Epson R2880?

Ever since I up-graded to CS5 , the color has been distorted.  It is not an Epson Lion problem because printing from preview or iPhoto the color is perfect.
Adobe has known about this problem since January 23, 2012.  Their help people have taken over my computer for hours at a time and not been able to discover the source of the problem
I thought they might have fixed it with CS6 but no luck  I chose use CS4 settings because CS4 had worked.
I printed using Printer Manages Color and color matching, epson color.  I selected the correct media.  The prints came out dark.  The yellows turned green and the greens turned blue/green, reds became dull and blues a bit dark.
This is most upsetting because I cannot afford to buy a new printer and ink.  Also I should not have to buy new equipment because Adobe cannot make their product work correctly.

    cmszinnia wrote:
If the printer prints colors accurately from Lion apps, which it does, then the problem is in Adobe.
Uh...ok...then the REST of the FREE world is going down the tubes because obviously, Adobe has screwed up?
Some of us are using LR4 and CS6 to print and getting accurate and excellent results with Lion (10.7.3) so the question begging for an answer is why can't you?
Read very carefully what Chris wrote...the odds are REAL GOOD you are NOT using the correct settings...but since you don't bother to show or explain the EXACT settings you are using when printing, we'll never know. Will we?
If the vast magority of the user base is NOT having an issue, to what do you attribute the disconnect? User Error is the single most likely result...
You want help? Or do you want to argue?
I know a little bit about printing and I seem to be able to print with zero issues on a wide variety of Epson printers...you wanna place blame or do you wanna learn how to fix the problem? (clue, the odds are it isn't Adobe nor Epson leading to the problems, it's you bud).

  • Anyone using Lion and Snow Leopard?  I will be soon.

I will soon be using both Lion and Snow Leopard on my newly upgraded hybrid hard drive.I know that I should need to partition the drive into three 1 for Lion 1 for SL and 1 for data/applications.
The problem is how is how much space should I give each partition?
Has anyone done this before or have any good ideas how to go about it?
    Some extra info:
I am currently using a MacBook Pro (mid 2009 13")
I am currently using Lion OS X v10.7.4
The new drive is 750GB Seagate Momentus XT 7200rpm 8GB(solid-state) hybrid drive
The soon to be replaced drive is a stock 250GB 5400rpm HDD
    Thanks all help appreciated

It's important that you leave a minimum amount of free space for the OS to use. You will see anywhere from 16 to 30 GBs for your OS and iLife apps. You need enough space to allow for all your third-party applications and document files. When fully set up you may have only 30 GBs of free space which is an appropriate amount to have, but not less than 20 GBs. That makes 60 GBs a reasonable minimum size.
If you haven't put everything in concrete, I might suggest going with a 500 GB Seagate XT hybrid together with a 128 or 256 GB SSD using an OWC DataDoubler replacing the optical drive. I suggest that mainly because using the same hard drive for the OS and Data partitions will actually make file I/O slower. Having two drives and using an SSD for the startup volume will enhance file I/O operations. Only two partitions on the SSD - each 60 GBs - fit neatly in 128 GBs.

  • Using Lion and Office 2011 with two computers

Using an iMac at winter home, a Macbook Pro at summer home. Before leaving for the summer I use Migration Assistant to update the Macbook Pro for summer use, leaving the iMac behind. If I buy both Lion and Office 2011, can I use the single installation on one computer, then later move them to the other via Migration Assistant? Or must I pay for two applications? Thanks.

Buy it once at the App Store and then Lion can be installed on as many systems as you "own and control" for no additional charge.  This would also apply to Apple's iWork suite.  Office 2011 sells in a family pack which allows you to install it on up to three systems.  You can definitely transfer the Office apps using Migration Assistant, and you might be able to transfer the license, but you would have to ask Microsoft whether that would violate the Microsoft license agreement.

  • Using a partition to share files among multiple computers?

I have a small business with just a few employees and we currently share all of our business files which are hosted on my Macbook Pro.  These files include an Aperture library, an iPhoto library, and a bunch of just plain old files, including a fairly large Filemaker database. I like having these files on my computer so that I can access them quickly (without lag), and this is particularly important for the database and the photo libraries.  And since I am often working 'after hours' its easy for me to be on the move (even if its just a move to my couch!) and still have quick and easy access to the work files.
However, we're having some major problems with file permissions. Sometimes (and seemingly randomly) employees can't open files because they don't have permission' and often I need to reset the permissions on files my employees create in order to open them myself.  iPhoto needs to "repair" the photo library just about any time a different user opens it up.  It looks like we just lost a couple hours worth of work yyesterday tagging photos in iPhoto since they mysterously dissapeared when I opened iPhoto this morning.
So we need a solution that will get us around this permissions nightmare.  I read one suggestion about putting iPhoto/Aperture libraries on an external HD and sharing them that way, however, totting a hard drive around might get akward, especially if I am working after hours, and I Don't know that it solves our issue with the rest of our work files.  At this point I would be willing to invest in a Mac Mini server if that would solve some problems, but that would probably leave me with slower access to the files than I currently enjoy.
So the thought came to me, why don't I partition my hard drive and use half of it for all the work files?  Could I set it up so permissions are ignored on that partitions as is reccommened for the external HD solution?  Are there other solutions, or pitfalls with this solution that I'm not considering?

    ArisaemaDracontium wrote:
I'd like to use the method described in the following link.  Can I do this with a partition instead of an external drive?:
    Yes.
Can I partition my drive without whiping it entirely and then having to restore everything?
Probably.  See #3 in Using Disk Utility.
Also, the "Alternative Method" mentions using a disk image.  My experience with disk images is limited to those temporary "disks" used when installing new software that are erased when put in the trash or the computer restarts.  Is there such thing as a perminent disk image?
Yes.  You can create and keep them anywhere.  They're kind of like a disk-within-a-disk.  They have their own format, directories, etc.  For example, some folks use encrypted disk images for their sensitive files.
    There are a few considerations:
Only one user can access it at a time, so if you use Fast User Switching and one user has it open, others won't be able to use it.
You'll need to put it in each user's Login Items so it will be mounted at login, per the article.
The contents will not be backed-up while it's mounted.
(But, in many cases the iPhoto Library won't be backed-up by Time Machine while the iPhoto app is open, no matter where it is.)

  • How to keep all text and formats the same on multiple computers?

I'm creating a file in InDesign CS6 on my Windows computer. I keep everything on my flash drive. When I go to school, I bring my flash drive with me and open it up on the Mac computer, but then there are are compatibility issues. There seems to be missing fonts and formats but the school uses the same version of InDesign I do. Now I was told a lot of things of how to keep the fonts and formats the same (embed the links, package the files, outline the text, save as IDML). However, it is not clear to me what each of those options do, so I don't know when or why to use them. So I just want to make sure that when I bring in my file in next Monday, I won't have any missing fonts or formats. What would you suggest is the proper things to do to keep everything the same on multiple computers? And could you please explain why?

If you want cross-paltform comaptibility limit the fonts to OpenType or Windows TrueType formats, both of which work on both Mac and PC. To avoid missing font warnings the fonts must either be installed on each computer, or they must be in a folder named Document Fonts in the same location as the .indd file they are to work with. Packaging the file will build taht folder for you.
the rest of the stuff in your list won't help you. .idml would allow you to open on an older version, but does nothing for your situation. Embedding the links will keep you from having missing links, but so will packaging, and embedded links will make the file much larger and harder to work with.
For goodness sake, don't even think about outlining the text. It stops being text when you do that and you can no longer edit it.
And finally. do yourself a big favor and don't attempt to actually work on your file directly from the flash drive. Copy the whole package folder to the hard drive, work on it, then copy back. You don't want to know how many files are fatally damaged by write errors on flash drives.
