Using Livetype for Live Broadcast?

I have a cheap small simple mixer for my school's broadcast class and I was wondering how, if at all, I could use livetype to make lower thirds and other graphics to overlay on my live video.
Any advice whatsoever is greatly appreciated.

It's really not practical.
LiveType creates alpha-based movies. Yo can export a still shot but you must then figure out a way to place the graphic over live video. You could import it into FCP, place it over black, have your Firewire output form the Macintosh sent to a DVCAM device, take the composite output from the camcorder into your video mixer's key input and, umm, yeah, that might do it. Hardly real time. And no animation capabilities and you'd be limited to the edging and shadow controls on your SEG since they won't be available from you Mac unless you have a very sophisticated output card. You want a dedicated character generator.

Problem#1 Description:
I need to pinpoint the Logical TimeSync Exception, i am still unable to figure out. That is I'm using a webservice in my Application to Synchronize the Time with the actual ET (eastern time) with accomodation of auto-adjustment for EDT GMT-4 (eastern daylight time) & EST GMT-5 (eastern standard time), times. I am using the zipcode: "10012" to pass it to the Web Service in urlRequest object, to retrieve the Current ET eastern time according to EDT & EST time settings for Manhattan/Brooklyn areas or others within New York, NY 10012.
Currently the Web Service is returning accurate date/time based on local EDT GMT-4 daylight time.
Is there some defined set of dates for EDT & EST times for New York region that I can check for to ensure the correct Dates/Times for Eastern Time in New York area ??? I am using NY zipcodes because i am sure to get correct ET values.
The Major Problem Part: is I need to correct the time by 2 seconds or approx. 2 secs, some millisecs.
When I retrieve the Time Value from WebService, it lags behind for 2 seconds as compared to DateObj i create using computer's local time, on my Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Automatic Updates turned-on. And I'm sure about my Windows will be having latest updates for Time Management already installed. I also added the 2 secs. to the TimeSync(ed) Date to make correction to this Date obj.
I call my custom fucntion addSeconds(dateObj:Date, secs:int) to add 2 seconds to the Date by Converting Seconds to Milliseconds.
Please comb through the as code in files attached and Help Me Out !!!
Problem#2 Description:
Secondly I need to Detect the End of Stream state while using FLVPlayback component, an rtmp:// live Stream from FLASH MEDIA SERVER.
I need to Play a YuMe Post-Roll Ad when Steam Finishes/Ends.
Live Broadcast Stream Event starts every night on Wednesdays & Saturdays exactly at 10:59 PM EDT GMT-4.
Live Events only Streams/Broadcasts the stream for 50secs. exactly. When [playback stopped] it plays a PostRoll Ad and after the CountdownTimer again comes back to life. The Next upcoming Event is calculated & the Countdown begins until Next Event's time/date is reached.

RTMP vs RTMPE vs RTMPS benchmarks for live broadcasts

Does Adobe or anyone have any benchmarks or or information on overhead used by these different protocols? Excluding bandwidth limitations, any idea how many connections can be achieved on a single server using the default out of the box configuration? Say a Dual Xeon E5504 Quad Core with 16 GM RAM. Just trying to get an idea how many concurrent connections is possible off such a server for live broadcasts. Couldn't find any benchmarks from Adobe.

According to Adobe's own documentation the RTMPS protocol uses significantly more resources than RTMP and even RTMPE. So should we just assume the server will cope just fine with 1000 concurrent RTMPS connections if it can handle 1000 RTMP connections fine? And 'in excess of 1000" hardly gives a clear picture. I know aside from hardware there are different factors at play (broadcast bitrate, video/audio format used, HLS transcoding, etc). But a few different benchmarks using the same hardware and different protocols would be very helpful.

Using Garageband for live performances

I would love to hear from anyone who uses GB for live performances. I'm especially interested in how you store and play your music; ie direct from your computer drive, on flash card or thumb drive etc. I'm a one man show with guitar, flute, and keyboard. I'm really new at this and any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey Gillermo... I might have to eat my words. I had a good think about this last night and I have come up with a plan. Just shooting from the hip and so might need some refinement, but here goes...
The problem as I saw it with Garageband was two fold...
1. how to lay out several songs or groups of pre recorded tracks and tracks with effects on them for my vocal and guitar and
2. lack of an easy to use controller of some sort that worked with GB to minimize mouse use, speed up transfer/choosing between songs and organize my set layout with a structure of some sort.
As a result of mucking around with my Korg NanoKontrol and using the plugin for GarageBand, I can now envision a logical system for using GB for Live performance as a one person show.
The NanoK has the ability to control 8 tracks at a time. You have use of Volume, Pan, Mute, Solo as well as the transport buttons when using scene number 1 on the NK. It has the ability to scroll through groups of 8 tracks at a time with dedicated buttons on fader bank 9.
As a simple example, lets take 4 tracks 1. a track dedicated to vocal with some effects on it to taste 2. a track dedicated to guitar with some effects to taste 3. prerecorded bass track (file bounced down to mp3 or similar) and 4. a drum/percussion track set up like track 3.
Now what you have is the use of 4 tracks for your performance ( there are a few other options though). Now if you load tracks 5-6 with the bass and drums of another song and 7-8 with the tracks of yet another song you now have 3 songs you can play/sing from the first fader bank set. These are all visible on the laptop screen.
Now thinking in groups of 8 tracks, the 2nd set of 8 tracks (tracks 9-16) is set up in a similar way with tracks 9-10 duplicates of 1-2 (vox & guitar) and 3 sets of bass and drums (or what ever). You would name each set of bass and drum tracks with the name of the song so you could always find out where you are. You could also apply instrument icons for easier identification.
So starting with fader bank 1 and tracks 1-4 un muted, you would have muted all the other tracks in the entire set ( before you started your show obviously). Hit play, sing your song... hit stop. Hit rewind, mute tracks 3-4, un mute tracks 5-6, hit play when ready and away you go with song No.2. Repeat for song 3. Once you have completed these 3 songs and made sure all of the tracks are muted via the Nano, press the button that moves the controls to the next set of 8 tracks or 3 songs.
Now in terms of performance there would be some trial and error needed to find out how big the project file could be before there were computer performance issues. I read somewhere there was an upper limit of approx 240 tracks in GB. In reality you would be thinking in terms of how many songs there are in your sets. So in this scenario if you had 15 songs in each set you would only need 40 tracks or 5 sets of 8 fader banks.
To minimize performance issues with projects getting on the large side, in between your sets you could close the project with set one in it and open the project file with set 2 in it.
A couple of other layout options would be to use an entire bank of faders for each song. You could have between 5-8 tracks usable per song. You could have a combination of audio, .wav/mp3, electric guitar and software instrument tracks. Simply go through the mute/unmute process as you scroll through your songs.
You could also lock/unlock the odd track for another level of performance optimization, but you would have to use the mouse pad for this as it can't be done via the NK.
The pro's for this type of system are
1. Complete control of mixing vol & pan for the venue you are in
2. Very simple control at your finger tips, 2 or more faders at a time, limited mouse use
3. A logical frame work to create your sets.
4. You can stay in GarageBand, no need for another software program.
5. Very cheap investment.
The Con's would all revolve around your computer spec's.
1. Max out your RAM.
2. Be selective with effects
3. System HD speed.
Note, I am assuming my vox and guitar are going through and audio interface with outs to an amp or PA of some sort.
I am going to have to try this out. I really DO NOT LIKE Ableton Live. It is heavy on CPU and gets really deep very quickly. If this works then I will have an Live Serial# for sale.

Header on Program for live broadcast

Hi all....
Tried to find the answer, but no luck...
I have been giving a movie to reapply sound to it on FCP.
This is to send to MTV, and it seems that all videos for live broadcast needs a header (maybe a footer?).
I believe that what they mean is that they need the RGB color header (if so how long? with sound tone?)
Do they need also need a counter from 30 seconds down to sero?
The guy who owns the video doesn't really know himself (which doesn't help).
I am sure that one of you guys will know exactly what is needed...

Using mac/FCPro as CG direct for live broadcast

has anybody out there tried that and made it work? I assume a firewire capable switcher, but...

This answer was provided by a guy that does just this...
Just did this with a big live satellite distribution show. A mac pro was and FCP was used as something similar to a Duet. All graphics had been built, rendered, exported as a quicktime file and replayed on the air. Nothing was left to chance like building an animation during the show.
HOWEVER, it was running through a router into a real switcher, not a little firewire toy switcher. This means that box was equiped with a card capable of spitting SDI, NOT firewire. Use firewire for anything beyond editing to a little drive next to your computer and you're just asking for trouble.
Also, I can't tell you the particulars as I was shading cameras on this show, not operating the FCP rig.

I want to have a background behind me when I broadcast live video. I was going to buy something to physically place behind me and I wnat to know if I can create or use a template image using visual communicator or some other software. Thanks in advance.

I entered into the word of "video" after having been in the audio world for a long time. As computers get faster such issues become less of a problem. Nonetheless, it can still be very helpful to google out recommended tweaks for digital audio workstations. It is possible to alter settings in windows and various services to allow your powerful computer to be used more for what YOU are trying to get done and less of what the OS would like to do. By following such advice I've been able to at times double the load of audio before choking the capabilities of a computer.

Can't using adobe flash player for live broadcasting

when i tried to open my usb camera on netbook using adobe flash player, it's always stopped and said my cam is using on another application. But i'm not using or open another application at all.

My 3GS phone can't download adobe flash player for online messenger use
Nobody's can - it doesn't exist.
Check the AppStore for an app for whichever instant messaging service you use.

Tips/Hints re: using flash for live title graphics and visualisations

Hi guys, this is my first post. I'm a design student from New Zealand, with a reasonably basic knowledge of flash, I've built a few relatively simple flash sites and applications for example.
I got a job the other day to produce live title graphics for a fashion show, and think flash can do the trick. Before i started i wanted to jump on here and see if you guys know of any interesting tutorials etc that could help me out? computerarts has a few on using live video/sound to create animation. I also need a way to transition pages without a set time, almost a crossfader- as the show is not timed exactly.
Any tips or hints would be much appreciated!!!

Using FCP for live video feed

Hi,
I'm currently shooting with the new HVX200 Panasonic camera. We're using a small, 7" hand-held HD monitor to use for focus-pulling, but I'd like to be able to use a computer monitor or laptop for a live video feed. (director's monitor)
We've considered using the component-out to go into a Component-VGA adapter for a computer monitor, but I'm wondering if we can do a direct feed using FireWire into FCP or something.
Anyone have any experience doing a computer-monitor setup for use with these kinds of cameras?

if you've tried something similar on your iMac & had no problems it's reasonable to think/believe it will work on your MBP, w/ this caveat: the 400 & 800 ports are actually on the same buss, so the 800 port will handle it's data at the lower(400) rate if there is a device on each port. shouldn't affect any editing w/ the drive once the cam is removed from the MBP. it should the run @ the higher rate.

I am currently receiving an *.xls reports on a daily basis (same report, same format, different data). I have put this report into Crystal Xcelcius Designer 4.5 Professional version and created the dashboard I want.
I am aware of the xml mapping functionality where I can map from the *.swf straight to a database. However, is it possible to map to an xls file that will change on a daily basis? (obviously I can you the refresh button in Designer, but I need to automate this process).
Your help really would be appreciated.

PowerPoint Like Presentation Using LiveType for Final Cut Express

In LiveType, would it be a good way to present bulleted text like in PowerPoint?
Any suggestions as to how to make text appear one point at a time?

Help again. I thought I would be able to easily go into LiveType to figure it out. I am wanting the text to appear without background (transparent slide with text) on the right part of my FCExpress video and make it appear by points like in a powerpoint. This sounds easy but I am obviously missing something. Instead of the text being like a column, it is a sentence in a long straight line. How do I make it like in a half screen text column?

Best upgrade for mini to improve live broadcast streaming?

I am using a Mac Mini for live broadcast streaming. I am using Wirecast for the encoding. I am encoding the stream in Flash format and I'm simultaneously recording to hard drive in QT h.264 format. This maxes out my 2 GHz Core 2 Duo mini with 4GB RAM. I am trying to decide how I might improve my setup for optimal performance. For example:
1) Should I replace the 5400 RPM internal hard drive in the Mini with a 7200 RPM drive and continue to run the broadcasting and recording as before but now with the faster drive? In other words, would I expect meaningful gain by simply upgrading to a faster internal drive?
Or:
2) Should I add an external 7200 RPM 800 Firewire HD to the Mini? If I do this what would be the best way to utilize the faster drive--
a) Booting the mini from the faster external drive and recording to the external drive and essentially "ignore" the internal drive?
b) Boot from the internal drive and use the external drive for recording the movies?
And would utilizing the single FW 800 port for the HD interfere with capturing video from my FW camcorder? (I'd need to add a FW hub or daisy chain the two devices).
I guess what I am really asking is this-- Will I have better efficiency in performing simultaneous encoding and recording by off-loading part of the work to a second hard drive?
I assume that the encoding of the broadcast stream is determined by the CPU and is independent of the hard drive configuration.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I admit that I'm not familiar with your particular application and setup, but I will say that the fastest connection to the hard drive in the Mini is via the internal SATA. A 7200 RPM 2.5" drive should be faster than a firewire external.
Keep in mind that drives slow down as they get closer to full .. so for best performance try to keep as much free space as possible. A drive that is 50% full will be a lot faster than one that is 80-90% full.
It might be useful to look at Utilities > Activity Monitor and see whether you are having a high pageout-to-pagein ratio, or whether you are strictly CPU or I/O bound.
BTW to take advantage of the fast SATA connection, some folks have run eSata from inside their Minis to allow connection of 3.5" eSata drives, which would be the fastest conventional drive for a Mini.
Others have replaced the DVD drive with a Solid-State Disk Drive, for the absolute fastest (though size limited) setup.

AMSCHECK doesn't seem to receive all data in live broadcasting.

I'm testing AMS for live broadcasting with AMSCHECK. A Flash program published a video stream at around 400Kbps. Using a Flash-based viewer, the reproduced image was fine and the AMS administration console reported the out-going bit rate was about 400Kbps per viewer (normal). Then using AMSCHECK to receive the same stream, the AMS administration console reported it was 50Kbps (of course it should have been 400Kbps). Looking at access.00.log and calculating the average streaming bitrate from the 'duration' and 'sc-stream-bytes', they corresponded to the values reported by the monitor. And changing the source configuration and increasing the stream bitrate to about 1Mbps, again AMSCHECK seemed to receive only 50Kbps. For making our stress check meaningful, we need AMSCHECK receives all the data being broadcasted. Is there any way for AMSCHECK to receive all the steam in live broadcasting?
Note that we used a modified 'livepkgr' as the application.

Confusion on the P2P live broadcast,How do I consider the next step

Recently I'm really confused,i want to use FMS4+multicast in our "live Application", I found a lot of information that about p2p live broadcast,but it seems that there are not enough practical applications.
In our "live Application",we are using FMS3,and there are lots of live streams,and each streams has about 1000-6000 subscribers,and each live streaming will be released about 8 hours.
So we spend a lot of money for the purchase of bandwidth,i think, if we can use FMS4+multicast ,so we can save a lot of money,but the FMS4 which is "developer version" has 50 connections limit,and if the client use the "p2p" features,it will pop up a "Peer Assisted NetWorking" dialog...
Therefore, we can not use a "multicast" player that is hidden in a web page,and so we can not implement a large-scale test on our web site.
As an employee,I am very eager to create benefits for the company,and now i have created a "multicast" player,and i have deployed the FMS4(developer version),and we have done a small-scale test in our company,the test results are satisfactory.
the question is :
1 How do I consider the next step
2 how should we do more testing or implement a large-scale test
3 If there is no way to do a large-scale test,are there any actual business case, that can Prove the availability of "fms4+multicast" , that Can be used in a "live broadcast" which has 6000 participants

Add that I do not expect the "fms4+Multicast" can totally replace the "Rtmp live stream",because i think ,the p2p mesh has a certain instability,and currently, The "fms4+multicast" and "Rtmp live stream" used in combination,I use this strategy:
1 first to use "Rtmp" to play the live stream and show it to the user,and call it "Rtmp Screen".
2 then create a new "netConnection" and "netStream",and use "multicast" mode to play the live stream,and call it "Multicast Screen",this screen is not showed to the user(Of course,in "multicast" mode ,it will connect to another FMS server),when the "multicast" mode is Stable,it will show to the user,and hide the "Rtmp Screen",and the "Rtmp Screen" will stop to play the live stream,when the "Multicast Screen" is not Stable, it will switch to the "Rtmp Screen",but the "Multicast Screen" is still playing the live stream,so the P2P network may be maintained,when the "multicast" mode is Stable,it will switch to
"Multicast Screen" again,and Repeated this ......
