Using LiveType in FCP

Hello everyone, I posted previously on this forum about creating graphics for my 720p60 - DVCPRO HD project, and I received some very helpful answers but it still didn't make the graphics my employer is using super smooth and crisp....
We have been reading about LiveType, and was wondering if this is a good utility to use when creating slides for FCP? Do they come out crisp and clear? Are there any special secrets to using LiveType?
Thanks in advance for the replies!

We have been reading about LiveType,< </div>
Forget reading about LT, get in there and get your hands dirty. LiveType is not like any other application ever created for the Macintosh and, in this case, that's a very bad thing. The interface paradigm is completely different from everything else in the Final Cut Studio. Learning LT's weirdnesses takes time and patience.
and was wondering if this is a good utility to use when creating slides for FCP? < </div>
Slides? Like Keynote or PowerPoint? Yes. No. LT is a titler for video, it's not a motion graphics compositing or slide show presentation creation system.
Do they come out crisp and clear? Are there any special secrets to using LiveType?< </div>
Of course they do. But your success depends completely and only upon your ability to fully understand the huge differences between video and computer displays. And if youa re compressing to a smaller file format or for Web delivery, you must be able to compensate for the loss of image quality.

  • How to activate a window in FCP while using Livetype

When I am typing some thing in Livetype the FCP video pauses. How can I edit on Livetype and simultaneously keep listening or watching the video in FCP.

FCP must be the active, front most application or it will stop playing.
This will of course prevent you from editing text in LiveType as that will then >be in front.
Ya this is what is happening.
You might try using Movie Note Taker to view the video instead -www.dvcreators.net
    Thanks for this suggestion.

  • Using Livetype for Live Broadcast?

I have a cheap small simple mixer for my school's broadcast class and I was wondering how, if at all, I could use livetype to make lower thirds and other graphics to overlay on my live video.
Any advice whatsoever is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    It's really not practical.
LiveType creates alpha-based movies. Yo can export a still shot but you must then figure out a way to place the graphic over live video. You could import it into FCP, place it over black, have your Firewire output form the Macintosh sent to a DVCAM device, take the composite output from the camcorder into your video mixer's key input and, umm, yeah, that might do it. Hardly real time. And no animation capabilities and you'd be limited to the edging and shadow controls on your SEG since they won't be available from you Mac unless you have a very sophisticated output card. You want a dedicated character generator.

  • I am trying to use livetype with persian alphabet and it doesn't work. what should I do?

I am trying to use livetype with persian alphabet and it doesn't work. what should I do?

There is no more LiveType with Motion 5.  You may want to go to the Final Cut Express forum, as that's the only place it's existed for the last few years.

download perian from internet, it'll solve your issue.

  • Problem exporting using Compressor in FCP?

I had a problem exporting using Compressor in FCP and then I found an interesting article from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1099
but it doesn't really explain the solution. What steps do I need to take exactly in Compressor to make it work?

James M. has it right. Convert the MP3 and the WAV files to AIFF, 48khz, 16 bit and use those in your Sequence. You might even have to convert the existing AIFF file(s) if they aren't 48khz, 16 bit.
Once you've edited the new files into your Sequence, do an Audio Mixdown, then export.

  • What format should I use for new  FCP slide show to DVD project?

I want to edit a slide show movie. I have all of the high resolution images. I plan on authoring the project to DVD 16:9 anamorphic with DVD SP. Later I would like to author to 1920 x 1080 HD on Blu-Ray. ( I can't afford Adobe BR authoring software at this time, I want to start with the DVD) I am looking for advice. I want the quality of DVD and future Blu-Ray to be best possible quality. I'm thinking there are two options I might use:
    1. Edit the FCP project in HD 1920 x 1080. Use Compressor to convert the sequence to 16:9 anamorphic for DVD SP input. I am thinking I will have the HD sequence ready for the Blu Ray in the future. I like this approach. Is the conversion possible with compressor? What exact format and frame rate should I use for the FCP project?
    2. Edit the FCP project in 16:9 Anamorphic. Compress for DVD SP input. I am not fond of this option. I don't look forward to making rectangular pixel images in Photoshop for one. That will be a lot of work for this project. I won't have an HD sequence ready for Blu Ray in future, I will have to start a new project from scratch to make the HD version.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Edit in a 1920x1080/30p Pro Res sequence settings.
Export that to a self contained movie current settings, and use which ever SD DVD preset to encode for use in DVD SP.
The self contained movie can eventually be used in Adobe Encore for blu ray authoring.
But having "high resolution" images/photos means nothing in video.
1 dpi is sufficient at 1920x1080 unless you plan to pan and zoom, in which case double the pixel size, not the dpi.
300 dpi produces no better image than 1 dpi.

  • Storing Video files to be used later with FCP

    Hi,
I am new to this so please bear with me.
I am using FCP 10.0.2 I believe and MaxOS LION
Only had the MAcC one week
I take a video, open FCP, then import the video and all works fine. I can also plug the card into a Card Reader and I can import the files.
Now this is the problem I have:
I would like to store the files from the card onto my MAC, the to be used later with FCP.  When I have copied all the files / dir structure to the MAC, I then open FCP, go to import files, go the the dir where the files are, but I cant import them.  I can see the files, but they are grey'd out.
When I view the files through Finder, they are all their.  If I now do an import from the Card reader it seems to work or if i stick the card back into the camera.
I want to build up a library of videos taken in its RAW state and archive it to either on my HD or onto DVD's for later use.
    Any suggestions much appreciated
    Eddie

when you did copy the whole file structure, you have to chose 'import from camera/open archive' …
I'm following the same workflow as you do:
    • in Finder, without FCPX, on my extHDD I create a folder 'backup Zoo Day May' (or any other descriptive title)
    • drag the whole file structure into it from SDcard to folder
    • when finally finding the time for editing, in FCPX, import from camera, then open archive, then digging thru my drives to that folder
    • FCPX notices this folder as a 'cam' and offers the usual import options, no need for that old (sorry, mish ) trick with dmgs

  • Problems using livetype files in FCP

    hello,
i am working with a regular 48k timeline in FCP 4.0.
i have imported many rendered motion text files from livetype into my sequence.
what's peculiar is that once i render the text in my timeline, there seems to be a stutter of video everytime the text fades in and then again when it fades out...almost as if the video skips a frame....
any ideas of what this may be? looked at my livetype project settings and there doesnt seem to be an issue with that...i also tried nesting the tracks in FCP but to no avail...
    thanks!
    steve

..the files i am using as my source video and layering livetype on top of are quicktime files i exported from avid express pro hd....these were source QT files that i have not had a problem with in FCP...maybe livetype isnt liking it?
Well Steve you likely have a QT file made with the Avid Meridian codec. I'm not an Avid guy, but you might check with Avid to see if you can download a version that allows you to create QT files that OSX can use.

  • Using Livetype Effects/textures/object data in Motion

I'm trying to figure alternatives for the *QT 7.4.5* issue that causes Livetype go haywired. Some of my current projects uses the IPR files and currently it is not displaying the *Livefonts, Textures and Objects* created in Livetype. Opening the Livetype projects won't show the effect created. All seen are garbled lines or nothing instead of effects applied. What is working is just the *Font and Effects*.
Have anyone tried to get the Livetype Object or Textures as part of Motion effects? If it can be done, can someone shed some light of doing this? I see that Livefonts is supported.
Will try to downgrade the Livetype to previous version to see whether it can solve this problem. Will update results soon.
    Thanx.

I did the downgrade to 7.4.1 and livetype works a charm. Only thing is FCP 6.0.3 won't work with QT7.4.1. It needs QT7.4.5.
So my suggestion is you haven't have any project opened in FCP603, stick to FCP602. I'm stuck as I have already updated my work in FCP603. And now I'm stuck.

  • Can I use my old FCP 3.0 in current up-to-date OS 10.5.6 environment?

Back a few years ago I used FCP a lot but then switched professions and haven't needed it -- or upgraded it -- since. My version is FCP 3.02 full retail store version. Today I tried to open it to do a little tiny real estate project and it said "Need original CD". So I got the Install CD-ROM out, put it in and nothing happened. Decided to re-install the software by removing the old FCP 3.02 and associated files and re-trying the install process -- to no avail. Says I need the original CD. I can't get any more original than the CD that came in the big honkin' box from Apple!! So now what? Does FCP 3.0 just not work on OS 10.5.6? How can I even upgrade to a newer version is I can't get this one to install? Help!!

FCP 3 was the first crossover from os9 to osX. I sincerely doubt you'll be able to run it.
to upgrade to the current version of studio, you don't need to install 3 first, just have the serial number handy.

  • Workflow for using photos in FCP?

I'm editing a sequence with 1920X1080 video (pro res) and a lot of photos. As you can see from my specs, I have plenty of RAM. However, a few minutes into my sequence I'm getting a "preparing video for display" message (I am monitoring on my desktop, not externally) every time I move anything. Is there anyway to stop this from happening? Do i have to do something to prepare the images for FCP? I am using JPEGS and the frame size is 5184X3456. Thanks for the help.

The biggest dimension size FCP can handle is 4K. Your photos are 5K. Size your photos to match the video. If you are zooming in on your photos then make them a little bigger than 1920X1080.
Also, make sure your photos are RBG not CMYK.

  • Using Phots in FCP

Ok, here it is, I want to use photos from Photoshop elements in FCP. I can NEVER seem to get the right aspect ratio in my exports to quicktime.
I have tried resizing a bizillion times, and ways but still, no dice. I have tried setting my canvas at 720/486. Then exporting to quicktime at 720/480. To see it would put it the right ratio, no dice.
    Any suggestions?

    720x534
After you've made your graphic, go to Image Size and, making sure Constrain Proportions is deselected and Bicubic is selected, change the height of the image to 480 or 486, as appropriate.

  • Using music in FCP

I'm trying to use purchased music from my ITunes library for a project in FCP, and I know about the copyright issues, but its for a school project and I was wondering if there is any way around it. Thanks!

You could always start with Soundtrack Pro or Garageband to create some music to which you'll have sync rights.

  • Subtitles can I use text from FCP?

    Hey,
Can I use text I created in FCP and use it in DVD SP?
Also, if I have a feature film that needs translation, what should I ask for? I mean is there EDL or OMF kind of file that DVD SP need? a

If you create the subs in FCP then basically they would be like burnt in subs you get on some films (i.e. you can't switch them off because they are embedded in the film itself). However, as Chris says, if you want to create subtitles that DVD-SP can use then create them as an STL file - this is an external file withy timecode refernces for in and out points for the subtitles and the relevant text.
Belle Nuit Subtiler can be used to create subs for both DVD-SP and FCP I think
Not sure that there is any software that "extract" subs from an FCP project though...
