Using Logic as an Audio Instrument Player :-(

Here's what I am trying to do:
I am setting up 16 audio instr. in logic with 16 different midi channels all hooked up to port one on my Unitor 8. My MPC4000 is acting as sequencer.
Maybe I am stupid but I cannot manage to record enable all 16 midi tracks and split the midi channels so that the MPC is addressing 16 different channels. What happens is that all 16 channels will play what channel 1 is receiving. All instr, are set to different midi channels...
Is it really not possible to split one port into 16 independant channels in the logic environment?

Sure Steve, I don't know the exact needs, if you need only a player then cable the Physical input directly into the Audio Instrument objects ( Use a Channel Splitter if you like ) then you shouldn't even have to worry about record switches.
Physical In -> Channel Splitter -> Audio Instruments
No Arrange Required

  • HOW I CAN USE LOGIC TO BURN AUDIO CD?

I BEEN USING LOGIC FOR LONG TIME,I'M TRYING TO BURN THE MIX (AIFF) TO A REGULAR CD AUDIO BUT I CANT
    SO MANY PROBLEMS!!!
IF SOMEONE CAN GIVE A HAND ON THIS!
    THANKS

HI YES I'VE BEEN USING LOGIC FOR A LONG TIME TOO AND LOGIC IS NOT A CD BURNING PROGRAM, IT IS A MAKING MUSIC PROGRAM. YOU WILL NEED TO USE SOMETHING LIKE ITUNES OR TOAST TO BURN YOUR AIF MIX FILE TO AN AUDIO CD.
    HOPE THAT HELPED!
    WHAT!??!!
CAN YOU SPEAK UP A BIT..!??

  • Logic stops passing audio after a few hours

    Here's the setup:
    iMac G5 1.9Ghz, MOTU 828mkII, Logic Express, 10.4.4 (i think)
I am using logic to process audio for a theatrical production. I am using two channels in and two out. The problem is, when a track has been record enabled for a long time (several hours to a day or so) it stops passing audio. Ideally I would like to just leave it as is for the run of the show (about a week) but currently the tracks need to be rearmed before each show. Is this a normal limitation in logic?
The only thing I can think of is that it might be caused when the screen goes to sleep (although it doesn't happen every time, only when I come in the next day.) I do not want to leave the screen on for a week straight if I don't have to. Any ideas?

If you've had it less tha 90 days, contact Apple support. If you have Applecare, you can talk with them for up to 3 years, but hopefully that's not needed. In the US call 800-275-2273.

I produce with a friend and approx 4 months ago we both upgraded to brand new MacBook Pro's each and Logic Pro 9 each.
I bought a 13" MacBook Pro with 4GB and the 2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
He bought a 15" MacBook Pro with 4GB and the 2.66Ghz Intel Core i7 processor.
We both have bought the full version of Logic Pro 9, both done the upgrade to 9.1 and have both set our copies of Logic to 64 bit.
Why? The only advantage you have from 64 bit is that Logic can use more than 4 GB RAM - which neither of you have. I would strongly recommend setting Logic to 32 bit. On both Books. It might alleviate some or even all the problems - I hope.
Here's a list of unavailable features in 64 bit mode:

My friends copy of Logic on his Mac is so buggy its sometimes unusable.
My mate is about to throw the **** thing out of the window and buy Cubase!
More often than not it is hard to install new software on computers that have been thrown about.
Can anyone shed any light please??
I think 32 bit is your answer. However, the mobile i7 processor does at least have one issue with Logic:

  • Question: Using 2 audio instruments on a split keyboard?

    Hi..
I'm trying to do the following:
I have an old Roland XP 10 Synthesizer, wich it has a very usefull fuction for live playing: To split the keyboard in 2 different midi channels, so.. at the same time, you can use 2 different sounds, in different sectors of the keyboard.
Ok.. As I plug my Roland XP 10 to my iBook through an Edirol UA 20 Audio-Midi-USB interface, and using Logic Express 7.2.3, I'm trying to do exactly the same, but.. this time, I want to trigger 2 instruments sounds through my Roland XP 10 in split mode, so.. I can have 2 of my logic sounds at the same time on my keyboard, ready to use in different sectors.
This that I'm trying to do with Logic, It's very easy to do with Reason 3.
Can it be done with Logic Express 7?
    Anybody?
I apologize for my english, it isn't my first language.

Open the Environment window and create a splitter and 2 audio objects.
Select the first audio object and in the properties (in thel left pane) set as audio instrument 1 on MIDI channel 1, the other as instrument 2 on MIDI channel2.
Now connect the channel 1 of the splitter to instrument 1 and the channel 2 of the splitter to instrument2.
So you can play 2 instruments at the same time but you can't record them on different MIDI tracks.
    cheers

  • Using logic: recording audio tracks

Im fairly amateur at Logic. How do you guys setup your song (arrange window etc..) when you want to record your external hardware synths? Do you always record just the midi? What about when you want to record the actual audio?
I am trying to see if theres a cleaner more "logical" way of recording my songs. I know logic has a million ways of doing any one thing. I have read a few books on Logic, but almost every time the writer's studio is all virtual and hardly lends any good advice to a person who has many external synths they would like to record!
I have 8 analog inputs on my audio interface and I actually have 4 synths (I sequentially put them in 1,2,3,4(L/R..L/R.. and so on.) I can setup the plugins and internal synths like a pro. Im much less confident when introducing logic to my external hardware lol I wonder if most of us record one track at a time? I'm curious to how other musicians approach getting their hardware and logic structured for recording. I often find I am frustrated that I KNOW this isn't the right setup becuase I lose concentration on the most important thing - music. Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Dual 1GHZ G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   2408mk3, unitor8

I have 3 outboard midi synths that I use. I found 2 good ways to monitor within logic
    First way:
I have set up 3 stereo input objects in my environment, which represent 6 of the inputs on my 828. I have my synths audio outs connected to those inputs and routed through the input object to my main outs
I record the midi on midi tracks, Audio on audio tracks and VI’s on instrument tracks and mix everything together in logic. when it’s time for a final mix. I have to bounce in real time, you can’t bounce the inputs off line. but it works great. If I have a mdi part that I want to tweak more, I either record the part to audio for processing or I use my second method
    second way:
I do it this way when I want to add more processing to a sound on an outboard synth. I take an audio instrument track and instead of the input being the ESX24 or other VI, you assign it’s input to “Eternal” which is like an input object. after you select the External plug, a box comes up where you select your synth, midi channel and output channel.
Then you record midi just like a midi track. But since you are now using an audio instrument track, all of Logic’s plug ins, like compressors and reverbs, and so on, are all available for your outboard synth just as they would be for a VI. Same rule applies for mix down, you have to mix down in real time.
Hope this give you some ideas

  • What connectors do I need for my ipad so I can connect it to my apogee duet 2 interface essentially using the ipad as an instrument utilizing a few of the synth and drum machine apps to record tracks into Logic on my Mac?

Ok, so I completely feel like this is a stupid question for those of you already in the know and recording tracks onto your Computers DAW from instrument apps on the iPad and other i devices. I can not seem to find out exactly what connector or unit I need to be able to connect and use my ipad as a instrument to record tracks onto logic. I have an ipad2 that I want to connect to my apogee duet 2 interface which is obviously connected to my Mac. I know Logic comes with plenty of drum and synth options but I still want to be able to use beatmaker, jam up pro and the sunrizer synth apps on some of my tracks. I do have the camera conversion adaptors. So my question is, do I just run from the camera adapter in the ipad into the midi port on my apogee interface? (I'm new to and still learning about midi) Or is there a special 30 pin cable I need to get that runs from the ipad into the XLR or quarter inch in the break out cables on the apogee? I did find one cord out there that plugged into the ipad and had left and right XLR connectors but my duets break out cable only has two inputs each is their own channel. Also , if the cable I need isn't midi  and does connect to the breakout cables, do I set it as an instrument or as a mic in the apogee software? Or am I completely way off base and needing something different all together. Any help would be much appreciated!
I have a fare amount of experience when it comes to recording, set up and the flow of standard instruments, using external hardware and plugins. But the last few weeks I spent a lot of time programming some great beats in beatmaker on my ipad and I want to track them into Logic. It seemed like no matter how I worded the questions when researching what I thought was and should be simple to figure it out, it just took me to answers I wasn't looking for. Thank you ahead of time. Like I said I'm just starting to get out of my comfort zone and learn about midi and the more digital side of things. So sorry about any ignorance concerning that side of things.

The new Apogee Duet for iPad and Mac, is compaible with iOS devices and includes a USB Midi input. This sounds like the perfect solution for your workflow.

  • I am using logic to record a podcast and using soundboard to use as a playback for music and sound effects.  I'd like to soft patch sound board into logic, and still use my interface for recording audio from the other members of the podcast.

I am using logic to record a podcast.  I have a presonus firestudio mobile for my interface so I can record several people at the same time.  I'm also using Soundboard for a playback system for music and sound effects.  I'd like to know how to soft patch Soundboard into Logic while still using the Firestudio interface to record the other members of the podcast.  Does anyone know how to do this? and if so can you tell me how to do it?  Thanks.

Thanks. Now, since Apple failed to provide an audio in jack for their new and improved iMacs (mine has one), all I can suggest is that you contact AppleCare, since you have 90-dqy free phone support. If need be, you might reconsider your purchase, but that's for you to decide.

  • Using Logic 9 with mixer and audio line in on Mac Book Pro.

Hello, I Just began studio recording, and am making the switch from garage band to logic 9.
I do not know how to make my instruments play through logic 9 using a mixer and a Line In connection to the mac like I could with garage band.
Please scroll down to the bold underline text for tl;dr
I am self taught, and never thought I would love working with sound, and I spent over a year touring the US doing live sound for concerts and am now helping out with live studio recordings, and projects on my own.
It started as something to do to fight boredom and to help, basically making sure nobody touched the mixer or to unplug it if things caught on fire.
By the end of the year I had been helping "Others" with live sound, and I learned a lot about the features and trims on the analog mixer that are more complex than "mixing the volume of each track" lol.
So please be patient with me. I do not know many of the terms, I just "feel" when something is not right and know where to go to in order to fix it or make it better, I dont have much practice when it comes to the technical side with computers and sound.
so I will try my best to understand your help.
Anyway's, I looked up online, and I cannot figure out how to get logic 9 to playback instruments set up on my mixer.
I currently have Male L/R 1/4inch to 8th Inch cables coming from main into the Line In port on the mac.
I know this setup is called "stereo" (I think?) and Im limited with only two separate tracks to record, so I have my selected tracks panned right and left for two separate inputs on the program.
I know everything works because I had it all setup on garage band, I changed nothing for logic, but all I can find are MIDI tutorials and I am using analog to line in, not MIDI.
Please let me know what I have to do to bring up two separate tracks, and also be able to hear them wile I play before recording.

Kudos to figuring it out yourself.
Yes, Logic is geared to the professional user, you will need to set up the program to your particular way of working, Logic was well developed for professional use long before Apple purchased it, it's not an Apple program per se. It's complex and offers a myriad number of choices so that it can be configured to many styles of working, there's often 3 or 4 ways to perform the same function.
Logic insists the user educate themselves... which is a good thing.
    Here ya go!

"Exploring Logic Pro" is a good one to start with.

  • HT2375 Using logic 9: play back of all project files now has problems:  Track volumes are way off - if panning is set to center then you cant hear that track? Even if pan is adjusted tracks are low and or distorted I have looked at core/built in audio

Been having project play back problems for about a month.  Sometimes when I open a project the volume of certain tracks is low and or distorted.  Oddly if a midi track is panned to the center (0) its volume is too low and if I pan right or left the track becomes louder.  Sometimes this doesn't help and if it is an audio track things become distorted.
Although things have been working good for about a year now I think it has something to do with the fact that I have to take the laptop to work and use headphones/built in audio for play back and then take it home and use different audio interface but I can't be sure.  The settings in preferences/audio/devises seem to be correct.
I have not added any plug-ins recently.  I have not downloaded any new programs recently other than a NI tutorial video (shouldn't have any affect) but I am trying to use a new midi controller but again that shouldn't have any affect on play back of existing track?
    Any suggestions?

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

I'm using Logic 9 with a Macbook Pro. On one project I'm getting a message 'not enough processor power' and the computer stops playing
I've tried freezing all tracks but this has no effect. I've also bounced all soft synth tracks to audio, but to no avail. The computer stops playing
even at the start of the track where there is nothing but a kick drum happening.......

    Thank you for the suggestions.
I had previously tried all of the above but the airport/wireless thought. Unfortuneately, none of these things made a difference, including the wireless suggestion.
Currently, I am using my Mac's "cheapo" internal audio hardware  (haha). I have a one year old 27-inch iMac,  a good pair of bose speakers, and a polk sub. I don't believe it is an issue with my setup, considering I completely disconnected and unplugged it.
I did, however, do a little info hunting on the internal audio situation, since I was curious what is actually included, and I stumbled upon this interesting little tidbit about my model of iMac:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2718054?start=0&tstart=0
I had previously wondered if I was hearing my mouse in my speakers as well (not just in logic). It appears that this model of iMac may have some grounding issues, as someone later in the thread suggested purchasing and using a ground loop isolator, which seemed to fix any extra interference for them.
Ironically though, I have since opened logic, and do not seem to be encountering my previous static issue(yet).
Fingers crossed, hoping that I will not be experiencing it again. Going to purchase a ground loop isolator, and continue to mess around with logic, just to make sure it was not just an internal audio issue with my iMac.

  • Logic 8 Export Audio to Video using Pro Tools HD hardware

    Hello everyone,
I am having problems with the "Export Audio to Video" Function in Logic 8. Logic will go through the export process just fine, but when I open the export elsewhere with logic closed there is no audio. The video plays fine. I have read that this function was broken in logic 7, and doesn't work with intel based macs. BUT, I am using logic 8 with a Power PC. One thing that might have an effect on this is we are not using the standard core audio driver. We are using our digidesign HD Hardware(Sync I/O, two 192 I/O's) for recording and playback. I set this in the audio prefs by choosing DAE as our audio driver. Im guessing this has something to do with the audio not bouncing out, or bouncing out to some weird unknown location and I cant find it. we have figured out a work around, but its time consuming and not so accurate. if anyone has any ideas please let me know!!!!!!
    thanks.......

Well, I can't find it. I remember he said it was working fine under PT 7.3.1.
I assume it would work under Core Audio using the Digi hardware, just not the DAE or DTDM features. If you're new to Logic then the Core Audio will be enough to get you up and running.
Just from reading the manual the DTDM features don't seem to be any different than earlier versions. I was hoping for more surround support, but I guess I won't really know until I test it what is and is not possible. Currently I run ProTools on a MacPro and Logic on a G5 and link them with MTC, and I can always keep this approach if I find it's more flexible.
