Using Logitech QuickCam Messenger with Tiger/Classic 9...

I just received this webcam from my daughter and found on installing the disk that it will only work with OS9....I have the Classic 9 installed on this Powerbook, but is this the same as OS9...as when I try to intall it in the Applications OS9 it will not proceed...is there another way to do this ?

What sig says is good. However, sometimes Classic is not the same as being booted natively to OS9, which your computer is incapable of doing. I don't know about this camera but true OS9 items sometimes need access to the computer hardware and basic resources on a fundamental level. In Classic it is really OSX that is running the system and the interface to the basic features is not the same as when OS9 is running the show.
Are you running the installer from inside Classic? If not, that might be a problem. Otherwise it is possible the installer is doing a check for which operating system is running the computer and finding it is not OS9. Workarounds might depend upon the sophistication of the installer. Sometimes an installer just copies files out of a folder and puts them where they belong. In that case you could just copy them out yourself. On the other end of the scale it may be a compressed archive package installer, in which case if you wish to experiment further you would have to find an OS9 computer, install on there, then copy the components out and copy them into the correct places on your OSX machine.

  • USB device (Logitech QuickCam Messenger) stopped working (SOLVED)

    Hey there,
I have a logitech quickcam messenger, which used to work perfectly 2 days ago. I updated my system yesterday and this morning, but I tried the cam again only now, and neither cheese nor webcamstudio work anymore (it never worked in skype since I moved from Mint to Arch a few weeks ago, but that was easily (and better) addressed by starting cheese and then using desktop sharing in Skype)
    The webcam is recognized

SOLVED : really stupid problem, but well... I'll completement my post and leave it for anybody who might hit the same problem :
dmesg looked like this when after I started cheese :

[ 3816.917377] gspca: bandwidth not wide enough - trying again
[ 3816.938010] gspca: no transfer endpoint found
The (not so obvious) solution was to connect the webcam directly to the computer and not through a USB hub. I have no idea why it used to work and suddenly stopped, but it works again now.
sorry to take up your time, in case I did.

  • Logitech Quickcam Messenger no dice

So I have this logitech quickcam messenger, and suprise, its not working.
Anyway, i plug it in (USB), and several modules load, /dev/video0 is created, but other than that, no functionality.
Mostly when i try to run any video app I get (running motion):
[1] Failed to open video device /dev/video0: Device or resource busy
I can run cat /dev/video0 and get a lot of output streaming out, so thats a good sign. But I wonder is the device really busy or is the driver screwed up?
I'm using the quickcam_messenger module that autoloads when i plug it in.
I've also tried qcmessenger and gspca_zc3xx modules to no avail.

Old topic, but case is up to date.
I was struggling with my own older Logitech camera Quickcam Pro. Apparently I bought the wrong one, but finally I set it up with limited functionality.
Of course the problem was the driver. No pwc, no linux-uvc and not even spca5xx. I had to compile new driver module with nw802. Actually mine was nw801, but I just had to edit one file before compilation, apply some patches, insert this module and now it works.
Please do some researches and specify correct driver for your webcam using ProductID. Logitech webcams have varied set of drivers. :-)

  • Anyone using Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro with OSX??

Is anyone successfully using a Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro with their Mac? The specs say a WinTel machine is required, but I'm wondering if the camera/microphone functions will just plug-and-play on a mac even without the Logitech software...
    Thanks,
    JAG

Thank you very much for your post; I went out and bought this webcam after reading about your experience. I can confirm that the Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro works with my G5 (2 x 2 GHz) and iBook G4 (1.2 GHz). I purchased it at Best Buy on sale for $60; every one they had came in the MS Vista & ©2006 packaging. I initially had problems with it working with my G5, but it had no problems working with my iBook. I eventually traced the problem on my G5 to a screwy Tiger installation (I had been having weird USB2 issues for quite a while in fact), and after I reinstalled Tiger, the Quickcam 5000 works just fine on my G5 too.
As for application compatibility... the camera is recognized without me needing to install a driver when using Skype, Yahoo Messenger, QuickTime Pro, and HackTV. However, when I try to use it with iChat, iChat always claims the webcam is busy - from all the other posts it seems iChatUSBCam should allow the camera to work with iChat. I personally haven't tried it because I use Skype to video chat with my GF (who uses a PC and the PC version of Skype). It's a little choppy, but I think it's because I'm on cable and she's on DSL. Also, I'm willing to live with some choppiness to use a $60 webcam instead of paying the ridiculous $300 it takes to buy an iSight on fleaBay nowadays.

  • Using Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks with Mac..

Can I install the Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks(new version) on my G4 Powerbook(OSX 4.11) ? I have read several posts from Mac people saying that this is possible BUT is there a CD included with the installation AND does that CD only work for the PC software ?
Would like to know before purchasing....
    Thanks

I read Logitech's data page on this cam but it does not mention anything about Mac compatible although the info I saw from some Mac people suggested that that might be some silent agreement between them and the PC people.....
Here's the article I read under: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/configs.html scrolled down to the Logitech data and found this under the QuickCam Pro for Notebooks:
Logitech QuickCam for NoteBooks PRO (New Version)
    Important Note: Logitech Compatibility Information
The following Logitech QuickCams are currently available in two versions. Only the newer version is Mac-compatible (UVC compliant) (Unless otherwise noted.).

    Identifying the newer revision cameras:
The new models are labeled with the "Works with Windows Vista" logo, and also feature "RightLight 2" as one of the features.
Part Number (P/N): The compatible model/part numbers are listed on our camera guide. Unfortunately, the part number can only be found by opening the box.
Logitech provides the following table showing the new vs. old camera models. The cameras marked as "UVC Supt" are Mac-compatible.

It sounds like it is time to upgrade to Photoshop 7 or later. If it doesn't work properly in Classic, and you are finding your Pismo is becoming unworkable, either replacing it with another Pismo or Mac OS 9 booting machine is advisable, or upgrading to a Mac OS X native version of the software is advisable.

  • Using New Apple Keyboard with Tiger

    Hey all,
So I recently got one of the new Apple Keyboards
(http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB869LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA1Mg&mco=Nzk3NjM4NQ) for me to use with my Macbook, which is connected to an external display. However, the one problem I've been having is that it seems like the function keys are mapped differently between Leopard/SL and Tiger, so that when I press F12, which should be volume up according to my keyboard, Dashboard appears instead, which is what happens on my Tiger Macbook's actual keyboard. Now this would be fine and dandy as long as F5 corresponded to volume up as well, as it does originally, but f5 now refreshes my internet page. Is there any way to correct this? Thanks.

Check if reassigning keys in preferences > keyboard > keyboard shortcuts does anything
    Not sure if this helps:

It depends on the graphics in your Mac. See:
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302291>
If Rotate is not in "Displays" System Preference, and your Mac uses the ATI graphics chip, you can try downloading ATI Displays from
    <http://www.ati.com>
Some displays do rotation entirely within the display. For example a display would tell the computer it's 1600 x 1024 when horizontal, but would say it's 1024 x 1600 when vertical. You may have to use the "Detect Displays" button for the computer to see the change.

  • Using iPod Shuffle 4G with Tiger

Can anyone help? I want to use my iPod Shuffle 4th gen with an old iMac G5 running Tiger. I know it should not sync but am I right in thinking I can use the iMac to charge it from the USB when my laptop (which is running Snow Leopard) is away from home?
Syncing would be good too if anyone knows a way around this problem.

Spotify can sync a 4th gen shuffle on Tiger. You need to get the shuffle going on another ITunes 10 machine first and get spotify to do it's magic later.

  • Using a Belkin UPS with Tiger 10.4.7

I bought a Belkin UPS to protect the mac from power outages but their Bulldog Plus software doesn't detect the USB connection after the mac goes to sleep.
So every day I have to restart the mac to keep the Bulldog's <UPS disconnect!> error message from interupting my work every minute. (And to communicate with the UPS in the event of a power failure)
Does anyone here use the System Preferences>Energy Saver>UPS option to control the shutdown process in the event of power failure? Does it work?
Belkin support for macs is sketchy at best. Is all this restarting bad for the iMac?
    iMAC G4 1 GHz 1024mb   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There are some good threads on UPS over in the G5 Forum, and a couple people who use Belkin.
You should be able to use Energy Saver AND Bulldog software (latest version?)
Found that one Quad on APS RS1500 really needed to use PowerChute (1.3.3) along with native support built into Tiger to work in all situations.
I don't need PowerChute for my MDD to recognize that it is on a UPS. Because I have more backup power than needed (have an extra battery power pack add-on that offers 2-3 hrs runtime) I've never gotten to the point where it was forced into shutdown.

  • Using Epson Perfection 2480 with Tiger and USB 2.0 Macs

Actually I couldn't reply to an older post, since it was archived:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=959762
So I tought to simply drop some info here about a few findings I had in the last few minutes.
Downloading and installing driver version 2.65 cured this (avoid the newer 2.77 driver; Epson says 2.65 is for OS9, but I have it here running on a Intel Mac). This will install the Epson Monitor software. Now that's a first trick: make sure all accounts in the computer have that on the login items for that account, that has to start as soon as the computer starts. Install the older Epson software even if you plan to use your scanner with Vuescan or Image Capture, for example.
After that, I still had the same problem here, but it was only on the machine with USB 2.0.
Switching the scanner to the keyboard USB plug (1.1) solved the problem. Maybe an older hub could do the trick if you have, let's say, a wireless keyboard.
    Good luck,

  • Problems in compatibility of iPod radio remote with iPod classic 160 GB

    Hi all,
I have just bought a iPod classic 160 GB and want to buy a iPod radio remote as well. However, after I have done my research, I find the radio remote is not compatible with iPod classic perfectly…
Do you think it is a good idea for me to wait a new radio remote (maybe) or later Apple will release update?
    Thanks

I use my Radio Remote with a Classic; it does everything that it had with my 5G-Video EXCEPT it will not allow me to set radio stations, either with the Radio Remote's control or the iPod's control.
I have spoken with an iPod specialist (Apple Care) and according to him Apple has acknowleged less than 100% compatibility/functionality with the Radio Remote and the Classics. One of the reasons, he stated, was that several 5G-Video iPods were "getting fried" when the Remote was not fully connected to the docking-port. So Apple has decided to reengineer the port [for better a connection, I gather]. What puzzles me the most about the new generation of iPods is why they were rolled out without warning customers that their Car-Charger, Video Player, dock, AV Cable, or APPLE'S OWN Remote will not play nice with each other!
This go around, it's find out the hard way.

This still happens intermittently (for no discernible reason), so I've learned to always have the camcorder connected so I can quickly turn it on if need be.
