Using Long Material Code(LMN)

Is there any negative impact on transactions, if we use 40Char's Long Material Code (LMN).  Because our material code is 25char.

Dear Gururaj,
Creating material code is very easy in SAP but effective using those codes for day to day transaction is important. End users should be made familier with material code by giving proper training. Material code length is also depend on the business requirements. If you are using lakhs of materials in your business then you should go for the long material code otherwise short material code would be useful.
If in your business, people are using or will use long material code in effective manner there will be no negative impact on any of your transaction.

  • Control the use of material code

    Hi there,
which field of the DB table MARA (or whichever) controls the use of material as sales code and manufacturing code - DISST? Like STLAN of the structue RC29N.
The request is to list all material codes with its "flag" to build a list of 2 columns:
Sales material code >< Parcel code/lower item
    Thanks for your inputs

I found it. EXIT_SAPLV01Z_001 does the trick. A package contains many User-Exits, BADIs and enhancement points, so it took me a while to go thru all of them.

  • How can we use same material code for two different sales area

    Hello friendsu2026
    Hope you all doing well
I am facing a problem and I will be thankful to all of you, for your suggestions
    Issue:
I have a *material created in 3000/10/19 for domestic purpose *,now our company has decided to export it for that we have created a new sales are 3000/13/20 for export,we cannot create the salesa are as 3000/13/19 due to some  company issues,
Is there any way how I can use the material already in 3000/10/19 into new sales area 3000/13/20.
Will common distribution channel and division concept will be applicable here
As the material is same, and we donu2019t want to go for any more new material code. *
    Thanks
    Siddharth Sharma

    Hi Sharma,
when a material is used in domestic and exports.....i hope it should be seggreagated based on dist chnl.......but not division.
because material is Division specific. it can be there in only one division. like mother child relation.
that is the reason why...... it is maintained inside BASIC DATA...... but not in input screen while creating material master.[unlike dist chnl]
because a material can be in multiple dist chnl....but not multiple division.
I feel only alternative is creating new material if you are already decided to devide the sales by division for domestic and foriegn.
Purpose of common dist chnl/div is to maintain pricing/condition in one common whenever you change master data.......
hope this gives you the clarity

  • Problem regarding Duplicate Material Codes in SAP

    Dear Xperts,
In our manufacturing plant,we are not using Split Valuation for same materials procured either from the domestic or from the imported Vendor.Even they are not using the same for the materials received through free of cost or through proper payment process. They are using two material codes and for this data redundancy occurred. Now they want to club the same into one material code but do not want to use Split Valuation till now.
    They want the following:
    1. For domestic Vendor they will follow Purchae Order.
    2. For international Vendor they will follow Schedule Agreement.
    3. They want only Delivery Schedule to be generated through MRP.No Purchase Requisition will be generated.
But how to proceed. Is it possible?
    Plz advice.
    Regards,
    Soumick

    HI,
But is it possible to generate only Delivery Schedules thru MRP?Means not to generate PR if we use both PO and SA for same material but for different Vendors?
PR not generated for scheduling agreement only schedule line will generated as per define schedule in scheduling agreement
ME31L = to Create SA document type LA or LPA
    Me32L = to change SA
ME38 = to maintain delivery schedule
assign scheduling agreement in source list ME01 and select indicator 2 MRP relevant and in material master in purchasing view select JIT indicator
MIGO = to enter GR against SA
MIRO = to enter IR against SA
    check following link
    [MRP To Generate SCHEDULE LINES for Scheduling Agreement;

  • Can you close Material Codes/Groups which have not been used for a while?

Is it possible to close material codes/groups when they are no longer required? This would be similar to putting a date on Cost Centres in finance which then restrict the availability of use.

before putting deletion flag please be sure the stock in those material is ZERO
now rather than using MM06 use
    WSE1
here you can block n put deletion flag for material
and to remove deletion flag use
    WSE8

  • Most use ful t code for Material Master changing

    Dear All,
Can any one give me most useful T-codes for create, change and display material master.
I have one T-code which is very useful for material master it is "MM50". With help of this tcode you can see material extend detail and also you can delete mass material with help of this tcode.
So please use it and also give me other this type of tcodes.
    Regards,
    Mahesh Wagh

    Hi,
MM17, LSMW, MM50 --- These are the 3 main transactions which is used frequently to Mass change the  Material master.
There is one more option is there using BDC Upload.
Batch Data Communication or BDC is a batch interfacing technique that SAP developed. It is mainly used for uploading data into the SAP R/3 system. BDC works by simulating the user input from transactional screen via an ABAP program.
The data input data file will come in the form of a flat file which the user save as file type txt file or prn file from the Microsoft Excel program. An Abaper will create a program to read the text file and upload into the SAP system.
Transaction -- SHDB will be used to record the change material master. After, the simulation, the Abaper can generate a sample program and modify from there. It makes the programming easier and faster.
For a BDC upload you need to write a program which created BDC sessions.
hope you got it. Take a help of  ABAPer for this BDC Upload.

  • Force Dreamweaver CS5 to use long hexadecimal color codes

Hi everyone. Does anybody know if there is an option to force Dreamweaver CS5 to use long hexadecimal color codes in all instances?
My company designs email newsletters and so we have to ensure maximum compatibility across web clients and email programs. The worst offenders for rendering CSS are Gmail and Outlook. We have to ensure all text and links have their color set by inline style tags, and since this is CSS Dreamweaver inserts them in 3-character shortform. Some versions of Outlook are not capable of processing these shortcodes, and so we must use 6-character codes in all instances.
I am aware that this is not necessary for most people but for us it is an essential feature. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry for the confusion, SnakEyez02. My sense is that tobe82 addressed the issue that Dreamweaver CS5 inserts 3-character shortform hex code, i.e., #FC3 instead of #FFCC33. This can be seen by using Page Properties to select a color for the page background. As tobe82 points out, there doesn't seem to be a Preference that addresses 3- vs 6-character hex codes although CS5 uses the shorter version under some circumstances.
For those doing HTML newsletters with Dreamweaver, this is a significant issue because thousands of subscribers use a wide variety of email software, including Microsoft Mail, and view the newsletters online with a wide range of web browsers, including Internet Explorer. Having a "happy yellow" background render black on heavily used Windows software is unacceptable. Knowing the way to correct this is important, so tobe82's question in this forum helped by suggesting the manual code fix. But I agree with tobe82 that it would be a good idea for Adobe to provide a Preference now that the 3-character shortform hex code is in Dreamweaver CS5.
(Un)fortunately, the example is corrected. If you want to take a look, imagine this Defrost yourself and make a margarita! newsletter with a black background instead of the #FC3 yellow.
    http://reigntrading.com/newsletter/retail/2011_April7/final.html
It looked more like an invitation to a wake than a party! The yellow background rendered black on Internet Explorer (Win 7) until I changed the automatically inserted #FC3 to #FFCC33. I don't read email on a PC, but thankfully Mac users are used to testing on Windows browsers.....

  • Activating split valuation for existing material code

    All SAP Gurus,
We have certain material codes in ROH and HALB material types in a plant.
We are doing external procurement as well as inter-company stock transfer (STO) of the same materials.
We want  to keep the separate accounting of the material which is procured from out side and which has been received through STO.
As the material codes are same, in my view only solution is to have split valuation for these materials.
Now, as the materials are already in use since very long, will it be possible to actvate split valuation for these materials?
    If yes then how?
Is there any alternate way to tackle with the problem?
    Regards,

    Hi,
Better you go with Split Valuation. But Before u go to split valution u have u clear all Pending Documents for that material.
U must not have stock in for that particular material.
In Split valuation, use material Valutaion type STO or External procurements.
Donot make any of the Valuation Type as Default....it will create problem in Future.
    Hope Help u !

  • Deleting the material code permanently

    All SAP Gurus,
Few material codes are there in our system which were un-necessarily created and have no use.
We have already flagged those material codes for deletion.
Although these material codes can no longer be used.
But the problem is that these codes still appear in the list of material codes.
Is there way out by which we can permanently remove these material codes from the system or at least these codes shpuld not be displayed when we see the list.
    Regards,

    Hi Rajan,
Transaction SARA contains all the SAP archiving objects for all the SAP R/3 applications modules
    Archive a Material Master Record
When a material is no longer required in a company or plant, you can archive and delete the material master record. You have to Flag the material master record for deletion
Before a material master record can be archived and deleted, other objects (such as purchasing documents) that refer to this material must themselves be archived
    The Archiving steps :-
Archiving object MM_MATNR for archiving material master records
Type in a variant name and click Maintain.
    Save the variant.
Maintain the Start date and Spool parameters and click execute
To do a permanent delete, goto transaction SARA and click Delete button.
Maintain the Archive Selection, Start date and Spool parameters.
click execute to start the deletion program.

  • Very high parse times for query rewrite using cube materialized views

We recently upgraded to version 11.2.0.2 (both AWM and Oracle database server). We are using cube materialized views with query rewrite enabled. Some observations of changes that took place when we rebuilt all the dimensions and cubes in this version:
    1. Queries against the base tables take about 35 seconds to parse. Then they execute in a tenth of a second. Even simple queries that just get a sum of the amount from the fact table (which is joined to all the dimensions) takes that long to parse. Once parsed, the queries fly.
    2. I noticed that the materialized views used to use grouping sets in the group by clause in version 11.2.0.1, but now they use group by rollup, rollup, rollup...
If we disable query rewrite on the MV or for my session, parse times drop to less than a second. Ideas?

There does appear to be a slow down in parse times between 11.1.0.7 and 11.2. We are still investigating this, but in the meantime here is a way to force the code in 11.2 to generate a GROUPING SETS clause instead of the new ROLLUP syntax.
The trick is to create a dummy hierarchy containing only the leaf level. This is necessary for all dimensions that currently have a single hierarchy. As a simple example I created a dimension, PROD, with three levels, A, B, and C, in a single hierarchy. I then created a one dimensional cube, PC. Here is the SELECT statement for the MV in 11.2. Note the ROLLUP clause in the GROUP BY.
    SELECT
      GROUPING_ID(T3."CLASS_ID", T3."FAMILY_ID", T3."ITEM_ID")  SYS_GID,
      (CASE GROUPING_ID(T3."CLASS_ID", T3."FAMILY_ID", T3."ITEM_ID")
       WHEN 3
       THEN TO_CHAR(('A_' || T3."CLASS_ID") )
       WHEN 1
       THEN TO_CHAR(('B_' || T3."FAMILY_ID") )
       ELSE TO_CHAR(('C_' || T3."ITEM_ID") )  END)     "PROD",
      T3."CLASS_ID" "D1_PROD_A_ID",
      T3."FAMILY_ID" "D1_PROD_B_ID",
      T3."ITEM_ID" "D1_PROD_C_ID",
      SUM(T2."UNIT_PRICE")     "PRICE",
      COUNT(T2."UNIT_PRICE")  "COUNT_PRICE",
      COUNT(*)  "SYS_COUNT"
    FROM
      GLOBAL."PRICE_AND_COST_FACT" T2,
      GLOBAL."PRODUCT_DIM" T3
    WHERE
      (T3."ITEM_ID" = T2."ITEM_ID")
    GROUP BY
      (T3."CLASS_ID") ,
ROLLUP ((T3."FAMILY_ID") , (T3."ITEM_ID") )Next I modified the dimension to add a new hierarchy, DUMMY, containing just the leaf level, C. Once I have mapped the new level and re-enabled MVs, I get the following formulation.
    SELECT
      GROUPING_ID(T3."CLASS_ID", T3."FAMILY_ID", T3."ITEM_ID")  SYS_GID,
      (CASE GROUPING_ID(T3."CLASS_ID", T3."FAMILY_ID", T3."ITEM_ID")
       WHEN 3
       THEN ('A_' || T3."CLASS_ID")
       WHEN 1
       THEN ('B_' || T3."FAMILY_ID")
       WHEN 0
       THEN ('C_' || T3."ITEM_ID")
       ELSE NULL END)  "PROD",
      T3."CLASS_ID" "D1_PROD_A_ID",
      T3."FAMILY_ID" "D1_PROD_B_ID",
      T3."ITEM_ID" "D1_PROD_C_ID",
      SUM(T2."UNIT_PRICE")     "PRICE",
      COUNT(T2."UNIT_PRICE")  "COUNT_PRICE",
      COUNT(*)  "SYS_COUNT"
    FROM
      GLOBAL."PRICE_AND_COST_FACT" T2,
      GLOBAL."PRODUCT_DIM" T3
    WHERE
      (T3."ITEM_ID" = T2."ITEM_ID")
    GROUP BY
GROUPING SETS ((T3."CLASS_ID") , (T3."FAMILY_ID", T3."CLASS_ID") , (T3."ITEM_ID", T3."FAMILY_ID", T3."CLASS_ID") )This puts things back the way they were in 11.1.0.7 when the GROUPING SETS clause was used in all cases. Note that the two queries are logically equivalent.

  • Material codes- no transactions

    dear sir,
i have around 35000 material codes in my plant.
i just wanted to check how many in the same in active or codes for which transaction has not taken place.
    1. material code created PR open Po not created
    2. material code created PR open Po open
    3. MATERIAL CODE CREATED NO PR NO PO.(perhaps no stock even)
i need to check 3rd category
    can any body help me!

    Hi,
Check the Consistency of the Planning File ( MDRE)
    Use
Since the entries in the planning file are permanent, you must check their MRP relevancy regularly. If, for example, a plant is subsequently excluded from material requirements planning, its materials will still be included in the planning file. The same applies for materials that are subsequently flagged with the MRP type No MRP and are thus excluded from MRP. In such cases, you should delete the entries in the planning file.
    Procedure
Starting from the MRP menu choose Planning ® Planning file entry ® Consistency check.
The initial screen for checking consistency now appears.
By using a selection variant, you can either plan the consistency check of the planning file entries to take place at a later date or you can start the process immediately.
Once the consistency check has started, the system checks each entry for the following information:
Does the material still exist, that is, does a material master record still exist for the material?
Is material requirements planning activated for the plant?
Does the material have a valid MRP type in the material master?
Does the low-level code still match the one in the material master?
    Result
If one of these criteria no longer applies, the respective entry is deleted from the planning file.
If the low-level code no longer corresponds to the one in the material master record, the entry is deleted from the planning file and a new one is created with the current low-level code.

  • Copy Material Codes, Costs, and Cost Code Distribution

Has any one come up with way to copy material codes with their unit prices and cost code distributions from one project(or template) to another? When a user has a large inventory of material codes, it would be helpful to be able to copy, or import these to a new project.
    Thanks for any help.

Forgot to mention that CMPlus will copy Materials from one project to another with the unit pricing of the current project HOWEVER, the cost distribution is tied to the contract that the material is associated with. If you are using materials with Daily Reports to track material not related to a contract then this will be all you need. IF you are using Materials in association with line items on a contract/PO then it will populate the selection list but you will need to perform more data entry to properly link to the contract.
By performing this copy from one project to the other the capability to "Generate" materials from a contract or PO is no longer functional because the Material already exists as far a Contract Manager is concerned
One more item to think about - materials can only be associated with one contract - that does not mean that a material can not be used on more than one contract.
I am assuming that since you are asking this question that you have been using materials on your projects and understand the nuances and issues with the way CM handles Materials.
