Using M-Audio Firewire 410 on MacBook Pro in addition to external FW drive

I'm a little hesitant to use the FW 410 on the same (and only) FW bus on my MacBook Pro as the external FW drive that I'm using to host sample files that stream in to use in various Native Instruments apps (Kontakt 3, Akoustik Piano, etc.).
Anyone out there with user experience in this set-up? Advice for order of devices in the daisy-chain?
Thanks for any help you can give...

I just used exactly this setup for an entire week on the road and it actually worked.
I had a portable FW drive hooked up to the 2nd FW port of the FW410, and was able to get a fair bit of music done... Mind you nothing compared to what my desktop MacPro usually handles, but it was still impressive for the small footprint of the system.
I did have occasional problems where sampled instruments were bogging down the whole system. Every key press would cause massive disk reading and slow downs. Oddly, re-loading the instrument (ie. navigate to another sample patch, then go back to the original choice - forcing it to reload) seemed to clear the problem.
good luck. I'd found my FW410 very flaky in the past, but M-Audio fixed it for me and it's been fine ever since. Fingers crossed.

  • I just got my first MacBook pro and dedicated an external hard drive for time capsule. I also have a WD 3TB hard drive with all my old files, photos and movies (mostly from a pc). My Mac book pro would not allow me to add or delete any files from this har

This hard drive so I copies all the files (400gb worth) to my time capsule hard drive (WD 3 TB but set up by the Mac book pro). Now I am not sure what I need to do. I wiped the other WD hard drive cleAn on my pc and want to set it up in a way that I can access the files on both a pc and a Mac. If I partition it on my MacBook pro will this work? If I do it do I need to save the file twice on both the pc and Mac partitions or simply by partitioning it the hard drive will ave files in both formats regardless of if it's from a pc or a Mac. X

  • Macbook pro slow with 1tb external hard drive not fully utilized

I have a 13" macbook pro (late 2011 model) 8GB ram (1333mhz) and 500gb sata drive. I use photoshop CS6 and Lightroom quite frequently and all my images are stored on a 1tb external seagate drive. The drive is 70% full but the macbook is not able to open folders. The drive does show up in the finder but seems blank though all the files are on it. I do not keep much on my internal hard drive so the computer is not inundated with data in anyway. Please let me know how I can fix this

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
{ diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.

  • How do I back up my macbook pro information to an external hard drive.  I was told you just plug it in to the computer and because it is set up to work automatically, it should just do it automatically.  However, the clock is just circling top right?

How do I back up informtion on my Macbook pro to an external hard drive?  I was told all you need to do is plug in the hard drive to the computer, and it will back up automatically, which it is set to do.  But all that is happening is the clock a the upper right of the page is revolving and the clock by my vault on the left is revolving, but there is no information as to mega or giga being copied.

  • How do I move pictures from my MacBook Pro to a USB/External Hard drive?

I can't figure out how to trasfer pictures and files from my MacBook Pro to my USB hard drive. Help please?

We could use a little more information, are you trying to move from a folder to an external drive? Or are you moving from IPhoto.
Either way should be able to select the pictures you want and drag them to your external.
If you have not used the drive before you may need to format the external drive with Disk Utility. You will need to choose a catalog method and what you choose should depend on if you plan to use a Mac only, or Mac and PC.

  • New To MacBook Pro. Question re: External Hard Drive

I just purchased a Macbook Pro today. I used to have a Dell Inspiron on which I used a Western Digital 500GB My Book external hard drive to store my pictures and iTunes files.
My question is is that hard drive compatible with my new MacBook? I know the hard drive works with Macs, but I'm wondering if I can just plug it into the MacBook and have it work without having to reformat it and lose my data.

Wrt exFAT. The newest Macs ship with an exFAT driver included. This driver will probably also be part of the upcoming OS X 10.6.5 update.

  • Macbook pro no longer recognizes external hard drive

    Hi everyone,
My Macbook Pro (2013) running OS X 10.8.5 will no longer recognize my external hard drive.
The hard drive, a Maxtor OneTouch 4, is granted quite old (c. 5 years) but has been working fine with my Macbook pro since I bought it 2 years ago. It is too full to do time machine backups but I just need to get some files off of it. It doesn't appear in Finder or in Disk Utility when connected and turned on.
Since it's only stopped working recently I suspect some software update may have rendered it obsolete. I have also noticed some glitchiness with my USB ports, but some things work fine.
If anyone has any suggestions of what to try, I would really appreciate it! I really need to access those files.
    Thanks very much in advance!

Have you tried all the ports?
Have you tried with a different cable?
Have you tested all the ports with other devices to see that they are functioning?

  • Using M-Audio Firewire 410 to record guitar.

I can use this interface to record my guitar, but must I reset the driver back to coreaudio to hear what I've just played?
Is there a way to have both the M-audio device and core audio drivers active at the same time?
Or should I do all this differently~?
    Thanks!!!

No, the S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) out is a digital interface, not an analog. Meant to connect to DATs, pro CD burners, anything with a S/PDIF in to keep the signal in the digital domain for transfer.
You need to use two 1/4" plugs into outputs 1 and 2 on the back of the 410. Assuming you were using an 1/8"-minijack-to-dual-RCA cable to go from the G5 to your stereo, you'll need an adapter that accepts the 1/8" minijack and breaks out to two 1/4" plugs. Or, to bypass any possible funkiness at the 1/8" junction, just get a cable with dual 1/4" plugs on one end and dual RCA at the other. Make sure out 1 goes to left (white) and out 2 goes to right (red).
As Brad and I have mentioned, the default setting in the control panel is that outputs 1 and 2 receive the left and right stereo output from the software (both OS and Logic), so you probably won't have to change any settings in the control panel. Read the manual eventually, because down the road you might want to use some of the other outputs for other purposes.
Also down the road you'll want to think about monitoring through dedicated reference speakers, preferably powered so you don't go through the stereo. It'll make a big difference toward your mixes translating well in other "real world" listening environments.

  • Can I use two audio devices on a macbook pro? I.e Headphones and the built in speakers

So I have Mumble (voip) running, and Spotify at the same time. I use apple headphones to talk to people on mumble but i want to use my speakers to listen to music on spotify. Is there a simple way i can set this up?

Radio Shack sells a splitter that plugs into the single jack then provides two jacks for two headsets at the same time. Provided you got a set of speakers with the appropriate matching impedance you could connect them to one of the two output jacks on the splitter.

  • M-Audio Firewire 410 - No Output - Intel iMac 20"

    Hey Guys,
I was wondering if anyone is having trouble with the M-Audio Firewire 410 and the Intel Core Duo iMac.
    System Specs:
20" iMac 1 GB of RAM
I am running the beta driver from M-Audio (1.7). The trouble I have is that I get no output. I see the channel lights active. I see the audio transitioning in the Mixer panel. The Firewrie 410 works fine on my PowerBook. I also have an M-Audio Firewire Solo and it works on both machines (with the same cables and hookups). I'm not getting very far with M-Audio on this one. I just wanted to see if it is me or if anyone else out there is having trouble.

    Hi !
I have a similar problem to the one you already solved. Maybe you could suggest something (maybe I can avoid reinstalling everything).
Ive being using m-audio firewire 410 (driver version 1.7.2) together with a MacBook Pro (Intel Mac OSX 10.4.7) since a couple of months without having any problem. But the last week my computer had an "unexpected problem" and I had to shut it down using the power button. After I restarted it again, I realized that even if I get a signal on the sw rtn1/2 when I use itunes or Garageband, I get no signal on any of the assigned output bus (I have a m-audio 5.1 surround system). The funny thing is that when I use an analog input, I actually get signal on the assigned output bus of this input. I uninstalled and reinstalled again the drivers of the m-audio 410 firewire without any success.
I would really appreciate any comments.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rodrigo

  • Trouble monitoring output with M-Audio FireWire 410

I just got a new iMac Core Duo and plugged in my M-Audio FireWire 410 audio interface to run with Garageband 3. Changed input/output settings, input seems fine and output too, even the 410 is flashing its output lights... but I cannot hear any monitoring of real instruments or software instruments on the FireWire 410. I've tried different headphones, adapters, and I know the jacks work because I also use the 410 with Cubase on another Mac. I suppose this is more a problem with the M-Audio FireWire 410 than with Garageband 3... but does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Help! My Macbook Pro will not recognise my M-Audio Firewire 410 interface

    Hi
I'm new here and fairly new to Macs having only recently bought a Macbook Pro.
My plan is to use the Macbook primarily for music but I can't get my M-Audio Firewire 410 audio interface working.
I have installed the latest Intel driver but when I plug the interface in, the Mac does not recognize it at all. I have tested the port/cables etc, and can successfully play music from an external firewire HDD chained through the Firewire 410.
How is it possible that the Mac doesn't even know the interface is there (when I click on the M-Audio software icon I get this message "No M-Audio Firewire device was found connected to this Mac") yet I can play music chained through the device?
I have tried both with, and without, the external power supply connected to the Firewire 410 and also tested it on my PC where it works as usual. And I've tried deleting and reinstalling the driver....(I thought this was PC only territory!)
Any ideas? I really want to get back into music and my past (bad) experiences with PCs drove me to the Mac...
    Many thanks in advance
Macbook Pro 2.16 Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try v1.8.2 instead of v1.7.2 of M-Audio's driver setup.

  • I am getting no signal to my dj mixer using m-audio firewire audiophile sound card connected to my mac book pro using Traktor Dj software can anyone help?

I am getting no signal to my dj mixer using m-audio firewire audiophile sound card connected to my mac book pro using Traktor Dj software can anyone help?
The firewire port reads the dj software and I can hear music playing through the sound card when I plug my headphones into it but there is no signal to the hardware (my dj mixer).
I have reset the firewire by turning off my mac book pro for a few hours and can see the sound card device in the fire wire section after clicking on the apple icon on the top left corner of my mac.
My dj mixer works on another mac computer with the same soundcard and different firewire cable.
    Hope someone can help
    Thanks
    Wayne

    kmiddlet88,
yes, it could be due to nearly anything listed in your kernel extensions, startup items, launch daemons, launch agents, or user items above. Please check all of your installed third-party software to make sure that the versions which are installed on your MacBook Pro are compatible with Mavericks; uninstall every software package which isn’t Mavericks-compatible. After you’ve done that, boot into Safe mode, and see if you still get the beach ball of doom there. If it doesn’t appear there, restart normally and see if it appears then.

    My MAC configuration :

    Sound card M-Audio Firewire 410 / Logic Pro 8
I have all the lasted Mac update !
Thx a lot for your help.
    Nailian.

    Hi,
Back from my "rescue mission" ...
Firstable, to answer the last post, yes I tried on different computers but it was windows PC.
Anyway, I tried ...older drivers (1.8/1.7/1.7.2) ...not working.
I tried to close airport (not bluetooth cause my mouse use it) ...not working.
So I decided to buy and install Leopard ...and it's working great.
In fact, after some research my problem was a frequency problem who came from a disfunction between my card and my mac. But why this problem ...because of apple !!!
Yes It seems the last security update 2008-002 from apple can not be "trusted"
Bring a lot of problem ...as mine.
So maybe I bought leopard for nothing ...but is great too so I'm ok
Thx again for all your ideas.
    See u.
