Using .mac alias on iphone

I would like to use one of my ,mac alias for my return mail on iphone. I try not to use my main .mac email to keep it safe from spammers ect. I see in the setting you can change the email address but I am not sure it is safe to change it to one of my alias' or not. Please let me know.
Thank you

There is no facility in the iPhone's mail settings to choose an alternate .mac alias.
Additionally, in the .mac mail account settings, there is only one place for entering an e-mail address.
You can do it manually, however.
1. Add a new account (Settings > Mail > Add Account... > Other
2. Make sure the IMAP tab is selected above
3. In the 'address' field, enter your complete alias address, including the '@mac.com'
4. For every instance of 'User Name' enter your main .mac username (no '@mac.com' necessary)
5. Incoming host name: mail.mac.com
6. Outgoing host name: smtp.mac.com
That's it! Tested and works 100% for me.

  • .e/.mac alias on iphone

Is there anyway yet to easily send messages from the iphone from a .me/.mac alias?
On an unrelated topic, is there any way to edit a user alias in this forum. I have not been able to find a way to modify an alias here.
    Thanks.

If you want to have multiple "from" addresses - whether they are .mac, .me or anything else...the only way to do this is to setup your MobileMe account as an IMAP account instead of letting it automatically configure it for you.
    Mail Account Information:
    Account Type: IMAP
Email Address: [email protected], [email protected], etc
    Full Name
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.me.com
    User Name: (your MobileMe username)
    Password: (your MobileMe password)
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): you will have to use an SMTP server that allows you to send from a different from address with authentication. You can not use default MobileMe SMTP server. If you have a gmail account - you can use gmail smtp but there are some downsides to using gmail, i.e. Outlook clients display "sent on behalf of your gmail account" when they reply to your e-mail.
You will sync this account to your iPhone and use it for e-mail
On your iPhone you will set up a MobileMe account using your MobileMe information, i.e. [email protected] Then you will turn OFF e-mail sync and turn ON the Contacts, Calendars and Bookmarks.
The only downside to this solution (besides it is not as easy as letting it auto configure everything for you) is that you give up "PUSH" e-mail. I found the PUSH e-mail to be too distracting anyway.
This will allow you to set your primary address for sending/replying to e-mail...but still be able to select any of the others when you reply or create e-mail.
The other practical use of this solution is that you can share contacts, bookmarks, calendar with another person, i.e. spouse while having your own e-mail accounts.
My wife and I share bookmarks, addressbook and iCal so that our Macs and iPhone have the same information.

  • Using .Mac alias in Mail

I have created a .mac alias on the .mac website. I then created a .mac account using this alias in Mail. (In additon to my orginal .mac account) However, I am unable to send mail using it. It asks for a password. I'm assuming you use the orginial .mac account password. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Sue

You don't create a .Mac account alias as a separate account with Mail.
All messages sent to a .Mac account alias are deposited in your .Mac account's Inbox mailbox. To send messages from a .Mac account alias, you select the alias email address from the Account selection located under the message header when composing a message.

  • Using .mac alias as an iChat account name

    Hi,
    I'm a full .mac member.
Thus, I am able to create aliases (e.g. [email protected]).
I'd like to use this alias as an iChat account name (so I can have two iChat accounts : one personal, one professional).
    Is this possible ?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Tibo

    HI TiboDeParis,
    Nope.
Screen names have to be full names or Trial accounts.
Trial accounts work after the 60 days are up.
The other option is of course an AIM screen name.

  • Setting Up a Dot Mac Alias on iPhone

Could someone please tell me the smtp and incoming settings for setting up a .Mac alias on the iPhone? I found a discussion where it said you have to set it up as an "other" (as opposed to a .Mac), but it does not give you the step-by-step. I thought I knew how the settings would be worded, but clearly I am wrong.

Here are some instructions on how to do it on the Moto Q. While the steps aren't the same, the information you need should be here.

  • Using .mac aliases with iPhone

I have an alias email that I use as my primary....how do I embrace this on the iphone? I can receive emails to this alias but my reply seems to be with my account email....any thoughts?

I spent about 20-25 minutes trying to find a definitive solution to this question at work this evening. Here's what I've come up with...
You can only configure the .Mac account email to work with your primary account for sending/receiving on the device. Which means that even though I can receive alias messages, I can only send from the primary account.
I dispatched an email to .Mac support and waiting to hear, perhaps they might know or have verified this to be true as well.

  • Using Mac to Answer Iphone

Has anyone seen an application that will allow me to answer my I phone when I'm at my desk using my Mac's speakers and Microphone? This would be very helpful vs. wires headsets and bluetooth headsets.

iPhone doesn't allow 'talk-through' via Bluetooth (or any other means).

  • Using mac mini and iphone 4

    Hi,
I'd be really grateful if someone could help me with this as its beginning to drive me insane!!  I have a mac mini 10.5.8 and an iphone 4 that I would really like to synchronize which I understand I have to do through icloud.  But, from what I can see I need to be running Mountain Lion but cannot get that until I have Snow Leopard (which I cannot find where to download through the apple website!).  I have upgraded my memory to 4GB which I hope is sufficient but just need someone to give me some instruction on what to do next.  Any help really appreciated as I desperately need to synchronise my calendars!!

Hello, since I have no iPhone I was waiting for somebody else to answer, but I can answer it turns out after finally looking!
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

  • Send Email FROM .Mac Alias??

Does anyone know how to send an email from your .Mac Alias in iPhone?
    Thanks,

Do you use the Mail application on your Mac for accessing your .Mac account and alias email addresses?
If so, all messages addressed to an alias email address are received in the Inbox mailbox for your primary .Mac account. An alias email address is really not a separate email account - it uses the same user name and password as the primary account.
When creating the alias email address as a separate account with the iPhone, you enter the user name and password for your primary .Mac account but your alias email address is entered in the email address field to appear as the sending email address when sending a message with the alias. When an email account is checked for new messages, the account's user name and password is what is used so this is why the same email is delivered to the primary account and to the alias email address which isn't a separate account at the incoming mail server.

  • How to use a .Mac alias in the outgoing address field from iPhone?

I do not want my .Mac Apple ID showing up in the outgoing address field from my iPhone. I want to use an alias instead, just like I use in Mail. How can I use the same alias in iPhone?
The iPhone has been great once I finally got it activated...no problems synching from Outlook on my PC and Address Book and iCal on my Mac. Now all of my PC and Mac data are finally merged on my iPhone and on both computers...wish I would have saved the money I spent on two versions of MissingSync! Looking forward to some software updates...

If you want to setup a different REPLY TO, you have to use the OTHER shortcut when creating the mail account on the iPhone. It allows you to specify an address in the Account Information box different from your incoming and outgoing server login IDs.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Could you tell us a little more about what you want to do. Bear in mind that iTunes has nothing to do with your iCloud account.

  • I have a used mac computer. I want to sync and update my iphone. Currently itunes tells me that my iphone is connected to a different itunes account. How do I make itunes sync and update my phone without deleting all the current information on my phone?

I have a used mac computer. I want to sync and update my iphone. Currently itunes tells me that my iphone is connected to a different itunes account and will sync, but delete everything from my phone. How do I make itunes sync and update my phone without deleting all the current information on my phone?

Iphone will sync with one and only one cpomptuer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.  This is the design of the  iphone.
It will erase the content when you sync.
Why not update from the comptuer with which you normally sync?

  • Using mac as iPhone Display

I have this future music magazine app: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/id451416904?mt=8&affId=1621074&ign-mpt=uo%3D6 Its really nice... I can read a digital version of the magazine on my ios device at anytime i wish . The only problem is that the only ios device I have is my iphone... Well reading a magazine on iphone isnt that nice because of the screen size... For some reason they only have an ios app and not a Mac app... Wouldnt it be nice if i could just use my mac as a display or use mirroring on my iphone like i do on apple tv...? Is that possible?

He's going to have a problem...
iomega used to make something called the 'superhero'.
    http://www.amazon.com/Iomega-SuperHero-Backup-Charger-iPhone/dp/B004FPYL56
It would allow him to back up the photos and his contacts, but that's pretty much it.
Without a computer, it's either that or a cloud service.

iOS 6 (which runs on the iPhone 5) requires iTunes 10.7, which requires OS X 10.6.8 or higher.
Upgrade OS X on your Mac.

  • Want to use .mac instead of .me for email on iPhone, can't

Hi all - I recently had to delete my mail account on my phone and set it up again. After doing so, emails sent from the phone are now sent from .me, even though I set it up as .mac. I've used this address for years and it is attached to people I do business with, so switching it now is not desirable.
Here's what I did. Deleted and reset up the account, being sure to use .mac (as that's all I use). On the iPhone, in Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> MobileMe, the account shows "[email protected] All seems clear. If I click in that, it shows Apple ID as "[email protected]" Again, good. Password is fine. However, below that, where it says Mail, it shows "[email protected]" If I then click on that to go one screen further, it shows my name and then in the address it shows "[email protected]" That, however, is grayed out and I cannot change it. Is there anyway to get this back? As it stands now, emails from home will come from .mac, but anything coming from my phone is .me. How can I get it back to sending from .mac?
