Using MAC files in Premier Pro (PC)

I received files from a MAC user and they do not have a file extension / aren't recognized by Premier Pro CC. According to the viedographer they are .mp4 files. I have tried adding .mpg and .mov extensions with no luck. When I tried adding .mp4 they audio imported, but not the video. I am a very novice PP user,  so would appreciate any advice.

What version of Quicktime do you have installed?

  • How to use XDCAM files with Premier 4 Trial

According to everything I have read, using XDCAM files with Premier 4 is easy. It just works. However, it doesn't with me.
For starters, when I create a new project, there are no XDCAM presets, despite it stating there are in the various documents I have read.
If I either try to import a file directly or copy it to the hard drive and then import it, I get:
    Error Message
The importer reported a generic error
    Not very helpful.
This is a trial version of Premier to try to establish if this product is any good. I did try to contact Adobe but they say they don't support trial users. Not very helpful. Since Adobe are obviously not very interested in selling their products, is there anyone else out there whop can answer this or should I just use Final Cut Pro instead (well if Adobe are not interested in helping a potential customer, what chance is there of being helpful once they have your money???)

As far as I am concerned, editing XDCAM EX files with CS4 - I have yet to edit XDCAM (HD) files - is as easy as editing DV(CAM) material on my i7 Extreme machine with Vista Ultimate and 12 Gig of RAM.
I am also pleased to report that the audio bug that beset CS3 when editing XDCAM EX files namely, audio cutting out randomly, is a thing of the past.
The whole CS4 Suite (including Premiere) has been running very smoothly on my (beefy) machine.

  • Edit .mts / H.264 file in premier pro and preserve time of recording (typical timedateoriginal meta)

There is a similar discusion in this thread, but I though i start a new focused thread, and sum up
    Similar thread:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4212491#4212491
This is what i want to acheive:
My AVCHD camcorder generated a bunch of ,mts files.
I want to merge these into a single file, edit it in premier pro and generate a video in which the subtitle track contains the time of recording.
This is what i can do:
I can merge all .mts into a single .mts with the help of tsmux
I can then extract the timedateorginal meta codes of this file with all the recording dates and times with the help of subtitlemaker (url in my entry in the thread above) and make a subtile .txt file.
I can then add the subtitle track to the .mts file in Adobe Encore and i'm done!
    But here is my problem:
I want to edit the clips. I can not do that in encore, i need premier pro for that.
However, if i start to edit .mts in premier pro, it seems i lose the meta data which contains time of recording.
Even if i go the really cumbersome way of editing each original .mts files individually (auch)..I still have the same problem.
    HELP !
In my DV days life were easy:
Import the 9Gbps single DV file into premier pro.
    edit the whole thing.
    export as DV
run through http://paul.glagla.free.fr/fichiers/dvdate_71en.zip and generate a subtitle file which contains the time of recording dates and times for the video.
add subtitle to the video in encore, done.
I appriciate any solution. I don't think i am the only one with this problem. I have googled really hard to find a solution, but have had no luck.
    Thanks...
    Per

So..for anyone who has the same problem and find this thread, here are my 2pence.
I want to make a home move of our last 5 skiing vacations. I want a subtitle track containing  the time of recording information.
I do not want a title overlay on the video, but when the discussion about 'when was that--!?' comes up, i want to be able to turn on subtitle. Simple !
I moved from DV to AVCHD (not because of HD Jim, but the DV camcorder was old, and newer seemed better at the time)
Hence my new problem: I have a bunch of .mts files, i need to edit those in a timeline editor, and get a subtitle track with the recording time.
recording time is in the -mts video meta data called timedateoriginal. To some extend also file attribute date of change (=time of writing to the SD card).
As it seems difficult to keep the meta data once you passed a timeline editor, and the file attribute does not make sense when you put a bunch of .mts files together, I think the best way forward is to find a timeline editor which also has subtitle tracks.
i.e. after steps 1) and 2) in my i have a single file and a .srt subtitle file to match.
I can now use those in a timeline editor.
Hunt is out for which editor, but it seems there are a couple of options. To be tested.
Once the sequence is edited, the new version of the subtitle needed to be exported so that it can be imported into adobe encore together with the final sequence for DVD/blu-ray authoring.
If anyone find a better way,, please let me know.
    thanks...

am editing with red files in premier pro and when I export and then upload to youtube it is not showing as an hd video.  can anyone help?

Then it's probably YouTube - have you checked here to see that you're watching the hi res version? It could be that YouTube is choosing an easier version to display based on your internet connection.
You can see on this screenshot that although the video has up to 1080 specs, my connection is making YouTube show me the 360p version by default.

  • Insteade of using mac os on macbook pro, i wanted to install windows 8 pro on mac book pro, will that void my warranty

insteade of using mac os on macbook pro, i wanted to install windows 8 pro on mac book pro, will that void my warranty

Installing any OS you want on your machine will not void the warranty.  Only making hardware changes other than those listed as "user servicable" by Apple, or negligence will void your warranty.
I will warn you that there might be SMC or EFI udates you will want for your Mac hardware that are only available if you are runnign Mac OS.  For this reason, you may want to keep a small partition on your drive which still has Mac OS installed, or at the very least, keep an external HD around to be able to boot Mac OS.  Additionally, if you are having hardware issues, like a failing DVD writer, you may have a harder time getting Apple to repair it under warranty if you can not reproduce the error under Mac OS.  When I had the DVD writer replaced in my first MacBook Pro, I found the problems trying to write discs under Windows 7, but when the tech could reproduce an error under Mac OS, he quickly accepted it was a hardware problem and not software.  Without reproducing it under Mac OS, he admitted that he might not be able to get them to replace the drive.

  • Problems importing Sony Handycam mpg files into Premier Pro CS4

I'm investigating Premier Pro CS4 for video editing and if I can make it work okay then I will purchase the Master Collection. Otherwise I may go to the MAC and use Final Cut. I need immediately to edit files downloaded from a Sony HandyCam that come off in an mpg format I believe it is (MPEG-2). My understanding is that the Premier Pro supports the importing of mpg files.
When I attempt to import one of theses mpg files I get the error, "Unsupported file format or damaged file." I know the files are okay because I can play them with Windows Media Player and have been able to edit them with Window Movie Maker. Now I need a more robust editing environment and am looking at Premier Pro to be the solutions.
Has anyone had experience with importing mpg files? Is there a Codec needed? If so where can I get it and how do I install it?

Adobe wouldn't help me on the phone, as I haven't got a support contract. Perfectly rational by them, just stupid.
I've asked my software supplier to forward on some questions and a link to this thread to Adobe support and they should be looking at it soon.
Also, there is another possible solution that might help those of you with full versions.
There is some advice here on one way to give Premiere Pro the ability to import MPEGs.
    http://www.mediacollege.com/adobe/premiere/pro/import/mpeg-ac3.html
This is very attractive to me - as I know the AC3 audio codec is used by my MPEG files and it sounds like it could be a solution. Of course, I've tried it, and I still get the same error.
I ran the files through TSRemux and got the same 'file format not supported' error message.
I've also been trying to import a .mov file into the trial version and I get the same error. Jim, would you be able to help me by saying in which other ways the trial version is limited?

  • Question- How to use HDV files in Premiere Pro

Hello everyone, I am new to using Mac's and the Adobe range as I have just started a course in film and television production.
I have recorded footage on a mini DV tape, in PAL HDV mpeg format, and transferred the footage from Tape to Digital Hard Disk at University (where it plays on Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5) but it will not respond once I add it to a sequence in Premiere or try to preview on my home laptop. There is no video or sound when I try to open using my laptop (just an empty black bar when I add to a sequence).
I have tried to find the answer or a Codec but with no success and I am trying to avoid working on the project on campus as I live an hour away and just spent a lot on the computer to avoid such trips.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also I should add that the files play perfectly when I open them using Quick Time and the update option in Premiere is greyed out (not available)
    thanks for your time

Hey Bill, thanks for the reply.
I am including some screenshots from Premiere.
I have contacted the seller I purchased the package from to check what he says, I cannot delete Premiere at this stage as I don't have a physical copy to reinstall
Also I see nowhere to upgrade or register the program
Also I have completed [projects using this version of Premiere with no issue, only they were not in HDV format.
    Thanks for your time

  • Importing Kodak .mov files in Premier Pro CS3?

I am using Premier Pro CS3 and I have a new Kodak Playsport Zx3.  Kodak says the .mov clips are 1080p, and 30 frames a second. I tried importing clips into CS3 and I get 'file type not supported' error.  The manual says .mov are supported.  What am I missing?  Do I need Quicktime installed for importing the files?

    Welcome to the forum.
Can you tell us more about your computer?
If you are getting the "Not Supported" error, then it is likely that you do not have the proper CODEC's installed. For the MOV format, those are usually installed with Apple's QuickTime Player. Do you have that installed? If not, it is free, though IMHO, is not that great a player. In your case, you only need the CODEC's that it installs.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - something else to consider is that many camera mfgrs. will ship their own version of the CODEC's, and these might be on the CD/DVD, that came with the camera. Sometimes, the CODEC is an extra install, sometimes it's built into the driver for the camera, and sometimes, it's part of some video editing program, that ships with the camera. It just depends.

  • I am trying to install Adobe Encore, but it has been discontinued. Can I install and activate a previous version using my Single App Premier Pro membership?

I am trying to burn and author a Blu Ray DVD. I do not have a usable version of Encore , as it has been discontinued. I currently have a Single App membership for Premier Pro CC.
I was advised to install Premier Pro CS6 as Encore comes with this package. I did this, and the software downloaded but an error message came up saying my membership had expired. I think this is because I do not have permission to run Preier Pro CS6 using my Premier Pro CC membership. How can I get the software using my current membership? Or do I need to upgrade my membership to a full Creative Cloud membership in order to use Encore?

The bottom section of the link above has several Adobe links, and other information, on downloading Premiere Pro CS6 and the bundled Encore CS6, and the TWO ADDED downloads for the Encore library content, to author a DVD or BluRay... and the tutorial list includes learning how to use Encore... pay particular attention to the picture in reply 3 at this link - https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1516173 (picture first posted by Ann Bens and reposted by Stan Jones)

When I import a file from a DVD into Premier Pro, it only shows two thirds of the screen. All is viewable when watching DVD which is in widescreen.
    Can anyone assist?

    Hi Ann,
Here is a screen shot with sequence setting dialogue box open as well as a DVD player shot showing the full version of the video screen. (Unfortunately, the pic of the video would not translate). I have been told by Adobe that it may be the video card not operating well with the recently downloaded Yosemite OS.

  • Unsupported or Corrupt tiff file in Premier Pro CS4

I keep receiving a message: file is unsupported or corrupt when trying to do an import into Premier Pro CS4. I can open the file in windows photo viewer, Photoshop CS4 and other applications with no problem. I tried saving the file as a jpeg and then imported it into Premier Pro but the preview screen is black. Has anyone ever had this happen? It looks as though the only problem exists in Premier Pro.
    Joe

    Joe,
I've seen this with image files, that have improperly formed headers. It most often happens with JPEG's, and often PS cannot open these, and will throw similar errors. For those, I just open the file in another program, one not so strict, and do a Save_As from that program. Then, PS can open the new one.
I'd look into what is in your TIFF. Is it Layered, does it have Alpha Channels, and/or Paths. Is it RGB (CMYK will NOT work)? Is it 16-bit, or 8-bit? Those are just some of the possible problems. In PS, I would check the Color Mode, the Bit-depth, Flatten, Delete all Paths and Alpha Channels. If you need the Layers, or the Alpha Channels, then try doing a Save_As .PSD, and try again.
Remember, no 16-bit/32-bit and no CMYK - 8-bit RGB only.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
