Using magic trackpad?

Hi All,
I'm thinking of adding a mini to my stable of mac products. I would like to hook it up to my home theater system via a HDMI cable giving me access to the internet in the living room. I bought a magic mouse for my mac pro on a whim and fell in love w/ it. take your mice and throw them away! The first question I have (since I'll be sitting on the couch about 10'away) is does the mini work w/ a magic trackpad instead of the magic mouse?
thanks,
Mike

I use a trackpad with my mini in exactly the situation you describe. I was frustrated in trying to click the thing, even though it's configured to tap-as-click. I tried sitting it on a book (and several other hard objects), but that wasn't very convenient. What I ended up doing was learning to pinch the lower left corner when I needed a click I couldn't register in any other way. It took a couple of days to get used to clicking that way, but now I don't even think about it and the trackpad has taken the place of a mouse altogether: no hard surface required.
Bonus Answer: I also use Remote Buddy. It provides an amazing level of control just using an Apple remote. It works especially well with media center software like XBMC.

  • Using magic trackpad affect macbook pro retina's battery life?

Hi, I just got new macbook pro 15 with retina. I was not sure how much it affects on macbook's battery while using the Magic Trackpad or Magic mouse. If it affects indeed then how much...thanks...

You are using Bluetooth if you have got a Magic Trackpad, so it affects the battery. However, it's not a big difference respecting to using the built-in trackpad or a USB mouse, so I wouldn't worry

  • Using magic Trackpad on older Mac osx Lion

Considering buying Magic Trackpad to use with my Macbook 2.1 Running osx Lion with 4gb ram.  Does anyone have any experience of this combination and suggestions to if it would be a worthwhile addition. Naturally i do not have the ability to use multi gestures with my Macbook and wonder if it would extend the usable life of my setup.

I do not have a 2,1.....I do have a 4,1 and a Magic Trackpad to take full advantage of Lion's gestures and it works excellent......I do not believe there would be any difference in using it with your MacBook.....

  • Has anyone figured a way to use the Magic Trackpad with Windows 7 on a partitioned disc using Bootcamp?

Has anyone figured a way to use the magic trackpad with Windows 7 on a partitioned disc using Bootcamp?

Yes. After Windows/Bootcamp discovers  your bluetooth device (Magic Trackpad or Mouse, be sure to make it discoverable), right click, with your wired mouse, of course, on the icon and select Properties.
Then check the mouse drivers box and your device should work. (I located this solution on another thread)
It works for both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad.
Must admit, the solution was not intuitive within the Windows environment. But we all must remember. It IS Windows, after all.
Another thing. Keep in mind that the gestures on these devices that work just dandy in OSX do not carry over into Windows.
    It's Windows.

  • Can I disable the internal trackpad if I am using the magic trackpad

  • Two Magic Trackpads Being Used By Two Different Computers Within Range

I lent my Magic Trackpad to someone who is using it in the same house. If they decide to get one how will we avoid the obvious problems this could cause? I already had to turn off my Bluetooth because I was receiving notification of connection being lost and then re established.
Can two MTP's be used and dedicated to individual Mac's?

Yes, Just setup the new trackpad and go to System Preferences > Bluetooth > and remove the old one from the list on the left by highlighting and hitting the "-" tab below the list.

  • How do you select multiple words using a Magic Trackpad?

I know how to select multiple words with my mouse, but cannot figure out how to do it using my new Magic Trackpad. Here's the deal:
Let's say you want to select "cannot figure out how to" in the sentence above. With my mouse, I'd place the cursor somewhere over the word "cannot," double-left-click and keep holding the button down. Then, dragging to the right, it would select each word in its entirety as I moved along the sentence. I do this all the time since it is a very quick way to select text.
Okay, so how do you do this with the Magic Trackpad?
I try a similar behavior, but it doesn't work. If I double-tap on "cannot," for example, one of two things happens. Either only the word "cannot" is highlighted and dragging does nothing to highlight more text. Or, if I'm quicker with the drag (aka swipe) right, it will select one character at a time starting from the cursor position when I double-tapped and not entire words, as I want.
    I'm stumped. Anyone?

    Jeffrey,
The only good way seems to be by using the physical click on the Trackpad. Double physical click then drag. Much the way it's done on the mouse.

  • Unable to wake screen using magic mouse or trackpad after installing magic mouse

    Dear Everyone,
I am using mbp 15 inch early 2011 with 2 GHZ intel i7 processor and a  4gb ram. I would like to tell you that i have installed the mac os x lion and quite happy with the improvement. however, there are same changes which i am not sure whether it is that my mac that causeing theproblem or the bug from the lion itself. i am unable to wake my mbp screen using my magic mouse or trackpad after installing lion. i believe that my mbp has not really enter sleep mode as i dont see the sleep indicator at the bottom right corner flickering. i also believe that it is only the screen that goes to sleep while the hard disk is not. Normally a single swing  of the magic mouse or a single swipe of the trackpad will normally wake the screen. in order to wake the screen now is only to click on the magic mouse or trackpad. furthermore, scrolliing page using magic mouse also become unusual after installing the lion. does any of u happen to come across these problems as well? Is there any other way to downgrade to snow leopard back? (i ask this in case that this issue really cannot be fixed). Please help me on this issue. Thank you very much for taking your time to read and reply this thread.

First, Lion does not wake on mouse or trackpad movement, only clicks or keyboard presses.  This is presumably to avoid waking the computer from display or full sleep accidentally, and is just how Lion works.  It's going to take some getting used to, personally, but I've noticed my mac hasn't woken up on it's own.  Apparently moving about my apartment moves the mouse enough that Snow Leopard used to wake the iMac.  This is not a glitch, and unfortunately, a downgrade is a complicated matter, involving erasing the HD entirely, and restoring from a backup created in Snow Leopard and not used with Lion at all, or manually importing important bits of data, as libraries upgraded by new versions of Mail, iCal, etc will not be compatible with the old versions.
In terms of your mouse scrolling, describe it in a bit more detail; Lion introduces "natural" scrolling, where instead of the mouse wheel moving the "window" over the contents, it moves the contents through the window, like scrolling on an iPhone or iPad.  In other words, think of your finger on the mouse as pressing on the page you're looking at and dragging it upward through the field of view.  I remember long ago thinking my very first scrolling mouse was backwards, and then adjusting to "down is down, up is up".  If this is the behavior you're experiencing, this also is the way Lion works.  This, however, can be changed in the mouse or trackpad preference pane in system preferences.  Simply deselect "natural" scrolling.
In a more general sense, its usually not a good idea to do a major software upgrade on your primary machine unless you're willing to deal with some zero-day glitches.  It sounds like the issues you're having aren't actually glitches, and you should be happy for that, but in the future, you might want to wait a few weeks for other users with more experience with major OS launches to find those bugs and point them out to the community for Apple to fix.  In terms of an OS launch, I think this has been absolutely one of the best.  I'm seeing very few major glitches resulting in lost data, few things that would really destroy my personal workflows, and compatiblity issues with other products seems to be well documented or negligible.  It's also a bit hasty to assume that mere hours after launch Apple would have any ability to fix ACTUAL problems with the OS.  My recommendation would be to get used to the change; having to click the mouse at least means you'll never accidentally wake your machine bumping against your desk.

  • Anybody using Apple's Magic Trackpad with LR?

    Howdy,
The magic trackpad has been getting rave reviews from friends. Is anybody finding it to be especially helpful when using LR?

but only want to see my Lightroom created slideshows.  Possible??
I don't think so.  ATV's photo sharing only pulls from iPhoto or Photostream as far as I know.

  • Updating BootCamp for use with Magic Trackpad

I am getting an error message when I try to update from BootCamp 3.0 to 3.1 which I need to be able to run the Magic TrackPad. I am running WinXP and have tried to run the BC3.1 32 bit update but get a message that the "Apple Bootcamp Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close." I have tried downloading and running the update as well as running it off the Support site. The Trackpad works but I can't right click and have no gestures.

Note I do not own magic jack but it looks like a standard ATA voip adapter.
How is the TC setup in the network? ie is it bridged or main router.. Is there another router?
Being a non-apple product you will do better sticking with SMB compliant network names.. ie short no special characters no spaces.. Apple by default break these rules.
Also you may have port forwarding issues.. apple do not use upnp most windows and non-apple products will expect and so you might have to open the required ports not just for sip but the actual call RDP packets.
Even if you do open ports apple routers often break port forwarding. You might find it is easier to use a modem router or alternative standard router and bridge the TC.
Look at posts that deal with issues which will be common with airport extreme.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3662236?start=0&tstart=0
I would say it is not working because you have not forwarded the required ports.. or it just doesn't like Apple routers.. plugged into the Mac, the networking is handled by the Mac.. and is able to auto open ports.. non-apple products cannot generally do that.
