Using Mail to send a photo - not iPhoto to send it

I want to send a photo by creating a message in Mail and attaching the photo. I can't find an easy way to do this. If I export a photo to the Desktop, when I go to the finder there is no evidence of the photo on the desktop, nor any other photos I exported from iPhoto. Yet when I do the Export from iPhoto, I can see all the exported photos on the desktop.
This is bizarre.
The only other way I can find to send a photo from Mail is to have iPhoto reveal the photo in the Finder and then I copy it to the desktop (don't want to mess with it in iPhoto's special secret place).
Is there a simple way to use Mail to mail photos to people once iPhoto has gobbled them up?

I just installed iPhoto 11, tried to launch its Help and was unsuccessful, like everyone else here. Heartened to read of the simple solution and will give it a try. The user discussions are my first resource whenever I have issues. Thanks!

IPhoto crashes when using Mail to send photos

Hello All,
I hope that someone can help me with this issue. I am using MAIL to send photos via the iPhoto button. Everytime I try sending a photo using this method, the computer freezes up and I can't even forcequit, restart, open up AMON..nothing! Someone please explain to me why it is doing this and what possible solutions there are. I looked on the forums for a previously posted issue, and I wasn't able to find anything. Thanks in advance for the help.

Solved with latest updates

When I import photos taken from my Windows PC using a flash drive, the photos in iPhoto are dated as the date last modified on PC instead of date picture taken.

When I import photos to my iMac, taken from my Windows PC using a flash drive, the photos in iPhoto are dated as the date last modified on PC instead of date picture taken.

Then you need to ask a PC forum how to export the photos there to include the Metadata (specifically the EXIF data)
If there is valid EXIF data iPhoto uses it (the EXIF data is originally added to the photo by the digital camera) and if there is no EXIF data then the only inofrmaiton IPhoto have available is the file metadata and that is what is used
You can correct the dates in iPhoto using the batch change data/time command

I really don't like the way iphoto emails photos now..
is there a record of sent photos somewhere? I want
to be sure it actually sent.. if it was returned because
of bad address or some other error.. would I receive a
notification somewhere? that it failed?

If you also don't like the way iphoto mails things..
go to iphoto>preferences>general> and switch to "email photos using mail"

Problem using mail to send iPhoto's

Folks,
Since I upgraded to Leopard I noticed an inconveniency in mail when sending iPhoto's. If I send iPhoto's to my dad (running 10.2.8 on an old Mac) he doesn't get the pictures in an appropriate format. The first half of the mail is the layout of the pictures, but with blank "pictures", then after scrolling there's the same layout but WITH the pictures. It used to work before, so I'm thinking that something has changed significantly the way mail sends embedded content.
Unfortunately due to the age of my dad's computer he can't upgrade.
Any suggestions?

Mac mail export to "Photos," not iPhoto

I use an iMac running OS X 10.10.3 and have the new Photos software.
I'd like Mac Mail to "export" a photo attached to an email to Photos, rather than iPhoto. But the dropdown menu in the little line between the address and the email still only lists "Export to iPhoto" and doesn't give an option to export to Photos.
Is this a glitch? Am I doing something wrong?

True, but if you right-click (control-click) on the photo, the context menu does contain "Export to Photos" along with "Export to iPhoto" and others.

Use Mail to send from a different account linked to Gmail

I use Gmail as my main personal email account and usually use with Mail via POP.
I also have Gmail set up to send from another account (my work address) which I can do by selecting a different "From".
This second email address is actually a MS Exchange Server mailbox, and I think the Gmail is just sending 'on behalf of' and getting replies sent to that address.
Is it possible to get the same results directly within Mail? (Not a huge problem if not, I can just log onto the Gmail website, but it would be nice to use Mail if possible).

I've had the same issue as you, and found this helpful.
Basically go into the Mail preferences and under accounts add the accounts (which Gmail gathers) that you want to send from to the "Email Adress" bar using a comma. For example:
Email Adress: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]
Then a drop-down menu will appear when creating/responding to mail that allows you to select which account to send from.
It can't seem to automatically respond to emails using the address it was sent to unfortunately, which Gmail cleverly does. But it's a step closer.

I created folders in iphoto on my imac, synch using itunes and selected all photos from iphoto but those albums don't show up...most my albums do but a few don't!??

I have a new iMac and I'm a new mac user....I have an iphone5..and ipad2.
I have created folders on the imac in iphoto.
I am synching the ipad and iphone with mac using itunes...selecting all photos, 3,500+ and although all the pictures may be sharing on all devices, the folders aren't.

Folders in iPhoto do not contain photos. Albums and Events do. Folders can contain albums, but not photos on their own.

Can you opening multiple albums at the same time in Photo (not iPhoto)?

When converting the iPhoto library to Photo most of the albums that were in place in iPhoto converted to albums in Photo . . . .but not all. Some were retained as events mainly those that were folders within an album. In order to move them to the right album I would like to have multiple albums open at the same time (side by side) so that I can make sure not to duplicate photos or move them to the wrong spot.
I cant see how to do this, it seems that I can need to open one album and check phots and then close to look within and other and rely on memory. There must be a more efficient and accurate way to do this?

All of the events in iPhoto were converted to albums and are located in the Folder titled iPhoto Event in the sidebar of Photos.
You can't open multiple albums at the same time. You can create a smart album that will do essentially the same thing with the following criteria:
Album is "A"
Album is "B".
The smart album will display all of the photos in those two albums.

TS3276 I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. I cannot use mail to send e-mail now.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Can I send an E-Mail with photo (not as an attachment)?

I would like to send an E-Mail with a small photo (not as an attachment) to someone who is reluctant to open attachments. Can I do this and how??

If you insert an image into the body, it will still be 'attached', even though it won't be listed as an attachment in the usual way. Another option is to upload the photo to your personal storage space such as OneDrive or Google Drive, and then email the link to the image. The image can then be displayed in a web browser. If you don't have a storage space, there are plenty of free image-hosting services.

Photos not appearing in iPhoto when importing from SD card

On the first instance of using my camera to import photos to iphoto, I used the SD card reader integral on the new iMACs; this worked fine - all photos appeared, I selected import and there they were. Since then, when I insert the SD card, it appears on the desktop and iPhoto launches. Iphoto then shows all the photos on the card that were previously imported, but not any new photos taken. If I open the SD card itself, the new pictures are there. So, why is Iphoto now not recognising new photos that I've taken?

Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

Can't send or receive mail using mail

I am posting for a new Mac user. We don't know all the terms so please be patient. She can get to webmail at sbc..... and use but can't use Mail to send or recieve. Help!

Sbc says they can't help don't have mac mail instructions

We know the ports are important. Hers are set to 25
and 25. SSL is not checked
Help me keep straight on your setting versus hers. For the sbcglobal, in Advanced the Port should be 110 -- this is for the Incoming POP3 server.
In the Server Settings for the Outgoing server, the Port should be 25, and the Authentication set to Password, and the Username entry should be the full email address (this is different for some ISP, but SBC instructs to use the full email address), and of course the Password. In both place where Username is required, it should be the entire email address for her sbcglobal.
Have I missed anything? Do you still have your setup working AOK?

Setting up Mail to send only (not receive)

Hello all,
I currently use Mail to send/receive to/from my Gmail account, and Entourage for my work (MS Exchange).
I want to use iWork 09 and the functionality of sharing documents using iWork.com.
The email addresses that iWork uses (for notifications to someone you want to share a document with) comes from Mail. So if you have multiple accounts on Mail, you can choose which one the email will appear from.
Obviously for work documents, the emails need to come from my work email, not my personal Gmail address.
So is there a way to set up an account (using POP3 or IMAP) so that it ONLY sends, and does not receive email?
It is straightforward to set up a fully functional POP3 or IMAP account for my work email using Mail, but with over 2GB of mail on my Exchange account, I don't want to duplicate my whole Entourage emails...
Thus my need to be able to _send only_....
Any pointers appreciated.

Sorry for digging back in the archives for this one, but a while ago you solved the problem of a missing iCal alarm clock with the following solution...
Thank you. This has been bugging me for far too long, but you finally made me look to see what was wrong. Here's what I did that has fixed it on my machine.
(I probably should have quit iCal first, but forgot.)
1) Navigate to iCal in your Applications folder.
2) CTRL-Click on the iCal icon in the Applications folder.
3) Select Show Package Contents
4) Double click on the Contents folder
5) Double Click on the Resources folder
6) Double click on the icon for alarmclock.mov
A dialog box came up telling me that the movie requires Adobe Flash to play, which is disabled in QuickTime, and allowed me to enable it. I also had to select 'apply to all movies'
7) Start iCal and test it. I had to restart iCal a couple of times, but that's probably related to my not remembering to quit the application before I started messing with its guts, and my failure to apply the change to all QuickTime movies.

You can only use Mail, contacts and calendars will not work, for that you need Outlook.
