Using Mail with a autoproxy

At my workplace, for me to access the internet, I need to plug in an Ethernet cable and enter an autoproxy in the Firefox preferences. I am aware that to do this with Safari I need to enter this info using the advanced button in the network prefs pane. This is working successfully for Safari but will not allow mail to access the internet to check mail on the POP servers. I can access these accounts via a web browser but not through mail.
Does anyone know if there are some settings I need to change in mail or is there something else I am missing?

  • I am using Mail with OS 10.9.1...I used to be able to drag and drop contact addresses from my address book to an e-mail header.  Now I have to type all the names and can't drag and drop.  Is there a setting for this?  Thanks!

I am using Mail with OS 10.9.1.  I used to be able drag and drop names from my address book into the address header, but can no longer do that.  I now have to type each name in.  Does anyone know if there is a setting for this or is it a feature of the updated software?  Thanks for any info!

Yes, that appears how Mavericks works right now. However, you can open the Address Panel, select all your contacts, then click the To (or CC, or Bcc) buttons to move the selection to the address field.
If it is not already in the Toolbar, right-click on the Toolbar and select Customize Toolbar…
Then, drag the address panel up to wherever you want it.
You may also want to add it to the New Message window in the same way.

WoW! I'm surprised by the speed you reply and how serious you are with your answers! Thank you very much guys!!!
    Replying to Toad-Hall:
I have a proper mailing list created as the manual says. It's a small group of contacts that exist in the address book. I do not type them as CC I just write "clients" and before I finish the word the name of the list appears.
How can I stop Avast from scanning out going mail? It's the free version and I haven't found a real solution. I also tried to totally turn off the "mail shield" but I kept facing the same issues. However, I just turned it off and tried to send the mail, I didn't restart windows or thunderbird
The idea with ipage server was fantastic! It would never come to my mind!!! As far as I see, the limit is 250 mails per hour. I doubt if I have ever reached the 50% of it. I also don't reach the bandwith limits... Besides that, if I had exceeded the limit I would get multi responses that "mail was not delivered".
I want to thank you both for your excellent help so far. I'm sad to say that I still haven't solved the issue. When I made smaller lists, with the same addresses chosen from the address book I could send the messages, having a short delay. I would blame Avast but I tried the same on another laptop with my favourite NOD32 and had the same problem.
What else should I check? Should I focus on Avast?

  • Using Mail with both pop and imap accounts

I have a Q to better understand how the Mail app. works in Lion so there is better coordination among my devices and mail = I'd like to lay out how it is now set up and see whether or not I'm right about how to handle them - and how to do things better.
    1.  I have a .mac account and no problems with it = if I read and delete on iPhone it deletes off iPad and computer fine.
    2.  I have an email account that is an IMAP account but at another host [I use Mail to get email from it] - so what I think happens is that it's sort of the same thing but operating on that other host as an IMAP so that the same thing happens more or less - email comes in on all 3 devices and when I delete from one it deletes from others = but maybe not as fast because it's going thru the Mail intermediary.  My need/wish is to use one email program [Mail] to get all my mail and that's why this and others all go thru Mail.
    3.  I have a 3rd account that is a POP account and can't be made IMAP because of the nature of the plan/host - in that I've noticed that I'll have 100 messages on my main computer and delete 75 of them but the 100 are still left on the iPhone and iPad = so far I don't do much about it but I hope/assume I'm right to think that if I know I've read and dealt with the 100 messages that if I want to I can just delete them all quickly off the iPhone or iPad...I'm not sure how to handle a Pop account to minimize all the hassle.
Does this seem like the right way to go or is there a better way to manage these 3 diff. accounts ???  I noticed some of the problem when I checked Mail on my iPad and saw there were loads of old emails 'unread' on it that I had dealt with on my computer so I knew things were out of whack.
Last thought = I do go to Synchronize all Accounts from time to time but really don't notice it makes a difference but maybe I don't understand tht either.
    thanks much

Okay, it just fixed itself without me doing anything, or even quitting the program again. It still seems like a bug.

  • Using Mail with SBC Yahoo!

I have an account with SBC Yahoo that I know for sure is a POP mail server because I can use it with Outlook on my PC. My question is, what do I need to put in which field to use it with mail? Anyone use SBC Yahoo! with mail? Would you recomend mail or should I use a different program?

    I hope this helps:
    1) Start OSX Mail. The Accounts window will open automatically.
    2) Select POP for the Account Type and enter a name for this account in the Description field. Enter your full email address in the Email Address field, and in the Full Name field, type your name the way you would like people to see it when they get email from you.
    3) Enter pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com in the Incoming Mail Server field. In the User Name field, enter your full email address and type your password in the Password field. Click the Options button to open the SMTP Server Options window.
    4) Select Password from the Authentication pulldown. Enter your full email address in the User Name field and your password in the Password field. Click OK to close the SMTP Server Options window and then click OK again to close the Accounts window.
Your mail should now be setup!

  • Using mail with Gmail

Just wondering how you import your gmail account so that you can use it with the mail on the bottom task bar. Thanks, Mel

    Melanie,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
If you click on Help in the Gmail pages in your Browser, you will find numerous subjects, one of which is POP access. In that resulting page you will find specific instructions for various types of mail clients, one of which is Apple Mail. You should familiarize yourself with the help topics that are available, but the link for POP access with Apple Mail is:

  • How to use Mail with Kerberos?

I am a Mac user in a mostly Windows office which uses an Exchange Mail Server 2003 for mail. Currently I connect to our mail server using Mail's Password Authentication. This works well, but our IT manager is concerned that this method sends the password in the clear, and would like to have me connect using Kerberos. But when I try using Kerberos (I've tried both version 4 and version 5 in Mail), Mail will not send. It waits a long time, then I get a drop down message saying "Cannot send message using the server ......"
There are others in our office using Windows laptops who are able to send mail using Kerberos, so it should work on our server.
Is there something wrong with Mail's use of Kerberos?
What do I need to change? (I'm using Mail Version 2.0.7 (746.2/749.3) with OS X 10.4.6.)
    Thanks.

It doesn't seem anyone here knows anything about Kerberos? Any suggestions where I might post my question and find an answer?

I just got a cable modem and now my .mail application doesn't work –– won't send or retrieve emails. does anyone know how to deal with this? i'd really appreciate the help. many thanks -- matthew

yes, the att.net account is a POP. i intend to keep up my att subscription, even with the extra cost, because this isn't a good time to change my email address.
i can access my email through the att home page, but i'd much rather use .mail since it has tools that i use all the time.

  • Using Mail with no .mac account

Hi, I know I can use Mail without a .mac account, but how? Everytime I open Mail, I get the 'enter your .mac password' thing, and not having a password, means I can't get any further, into the settings or anything.
    What do I do?

  • Using Mail with GMAIL (Pop)

Has anyone experienced the following issue? I have set up my two gmail accounts to work with Mail on my new MacBook and for some reason the Mail program is not receiving all the mail. I know I am getting more mail than what is showing up because GMAIL is also set up to work with my blackberry. My BBerry will jingle with a new email message and then I'll sit there and wait for Mail to receive the message and it will never arrive. I have Gmail set up to work with Outlook on my Dell PC and it is working fine. For some reason all the bloody messages are not making it to my inbox on the MacBook and I can't think what it is. I'm using PoP on the Gmail end because the Imap seemed to slow.

Okay, things are progressing somewhat. Mail has now imported my messages on from my primary account and seems to be okay (using IMAP). I decided to add my secondary gmail account that I use for work related messages and that (also using IMAP) doesn't seem to be working so smoothly. So far Mail has crashed 3 times and had to "re-import" all 13,000+ of my messages. I have no idea why. Also, any mail sent to the second gmail account is not showing up in the primary inbox and isn't giving me a "new mail" notification via the red number that shows up in the top right hand corner of the postage stamp. Any ideas?

  • Using Mail with Exchange Servers

My office, which is all PC except for my iMac, recently set up a Microsoft Exchange Server. I've set up my exchange account on Mail, however, when I log in using Outlook on a PC I can go into the advance settings and add additional shared mailboxes. Is this possible on Mail? If not, is it possible at all on the Mac?
    All suggestions welcome.
    Thanks,
    Adam

    Shootist007,
I too loaded sparrow and it did seem to work fine with my (multiple) Gmail accounts and the folder/labels looked great (they do allow you to separate your inboxes/labels) with just a keystroke??---What I found was their HELP files were as MINIMAL as their program (fine for the more experienced I am sure)
I spent several hours!!! trying to figure out how to move the inbox messages to the (FOLDERS)??? I gave up!!
IF ANYONE KNOWS THE STEPS FOR DOING THIS I may well try the program again as it did seem to behave with Gmail/multiple accounts/personal domain quite well!
I will download thunderbird and give it a go in the morning
    Thanks for the quick response!

  • How should I mark a message as spam when using Mail with IMAP Gmail

    Hi,
I've been using Apple Mail 3.2 with Gmail's IMAP for several month's and am very happy with the setup. One feature of Gmail that's great is the spam filtering, however, every day a couple spam messages get through the filtering. My question is this: What's the best way to train Gmail of a spam message?
Accessing Gmail through the Safari allows you to mark a message as Spam. I assume that Gmail then does something to train its algorithm that spam has been received so that a similar message will go direct to the Spam folder the next time its received.
I prefer to deal with my email via Apple Mail or via the iPhone Mail and have been moving spam messages to the Spam folder. Does this action do anything to train Gmail's spam filtering so that a similar message will go direct to the spam folder?
    Thanks

    Hello Hal:
I think you will get a better answer to your question by contacting G-mail. In my case, I use AOL mail in Apple's mail application. AOL catches the vast majority of spam/junk and it is placed in a spam folder. The few that get through seem to be trapped by Apple's mail and placed in the Junk folder.

  • Using Mail with gmail (first time setup)

I have been using gmail for years. I usually just use the webbased email so that I can check it from any computer. Now I'm interested in setting up Mail because I'm getting an ipod touch next week and I want to be able to use the Mail program on that. I successfully got Mail to logon to my gmail account, but then it started downloading a massive amount of emails-- apparently ALL my emails rather than just the current ones in my inbox. So here is my question-- can I make Mail understand the customizations I've already done in Gmail, or do I have to do them all over again? Here are the various features I'm using in gmail that I need to set up:
    1) I have several different email accounts forwarding to my gmail account.
    2) I use the different labels in gmail
    3) I have some filters set up-- so that certain junk mail bypasses the inbox and gets archived right away
    4) I have a lot of mail that is already archived and not in the inbox.
I also want to still be able to use web based gmail when I'm at my work computer, so I'd like to make all these different filters and stuff match up as much as possible. Any advice? Thanks!

No one? Well, I've figured most of it out (I'm using IMAP) but I have one more question-- when I delete a message from the inbox in Mail, it gets deleted in gmail rather than archived. What do I do to make a message get archived in gmail?

  • Using Mail with my school's email address.

I don't know if anybody can help besides my school's IT guy, but my school email is @georgiasouthern.edu. This is used as a Gmail App, so basically my school email is running off Gmail servers. I have tried setting up the POP and IMAP to allow it to work in the Mail application, but for some reason when I try to create my account, it can't find the smtp.gmail.com server for the outgoing mail...or the incoming mail for that matter. I have looked at Google Help and followed all the instructions to no avail. Please help me. If this post was too confusing, and you think you can can help me, e-mail me and ill try to explain better.

I followed everything on this website:http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=86394 , which was sent to me from my school's IT specialist.
