Using MainStage with reason?

Anybody using Mainstage rewired to Reason? I'm not having much luck.

Rewire isn't supported in version 1. I've put my 2 cents into the feedback page about this feature so I'm really hoping it makes it into the next version...

I use two keyboards for my live gigs, and am thinking about moving all my sounds over to MainStage. Most of my recording uses Native Instruments and Logic's standard AU instruments, and then I have to find similar sounds on my Korg and Kurzweil for live...
My question is... can you use MainStage with two MIDI controllers? I'd obviously want to set up the presets in MainStage so that there are different instruments being controlled by each synth.
Would love any advice on whether this can be done, and a quick pointer as to how...

Easily done (I'm using two USB controllers on a gig now). Just set them up in Layout mode, then be sure to select the input of choice for your specific channel strip(s) in each patch. Or of course you can set things up at the set or concert level as well.

How to use MainStage with a multitimbral plug-in?

I'd like to use MainStage with Kontakt 3, a multitimbral softsynth. In other words, in my Kontakt rack, I might have Piano loaded in channel 1, Strings in channel 2, Synth in channel 3, and so on.
I am creating MainStage patches within my Concert for each of these instruments (plus others). The problem is that if I instantiate Kontakt inside patch 1 and then load piano, then another Kontakt inside patch 2 and load strings, and another Kontakt inside patch 3 and load synth, then I'm using 3 instances of Kontakt (requiring extra CPU) when only one instance of Kontakt can handle all of these at the same time.
Yet I want them to be independent MainStage patches, so that I can seamlessly switch between those 3 Kontakt instruments, and other plug-ins I'm using in other patches.
So how do I get MainStage to address a multitimbral plug-in like Kontakt?

How to use mainstage with my pedalboard?

I am looking for a way to run my Macbook (mainstage) through my pedalboard. I will only be using mainstage as a consolidated effects that can be switched on and off as a whole. I normally run into my MB using an M-audio fast track. I would like to have something like a selector or something to bypass the computer if I don't want it on. ie. guitar > fuzz > compressor > Macbook > Delay> amp (Not the real order lol) What would be the best way to do this without losing my signal or having it go through mainstage when I don't want it on?

Using mainstage with two instruments at the same time

Hi, I'm using an M-Audio firewire solo as an interface with my macbook. I have a usb keyboard and want to play guitar as well, switching between the two onstage. My question is, how do I get the outputs to the soundboard so they can be mixed separately? The interface has two inputs and balanced outputs (ch1 and ch2). I want channel 1 (gtr) to go to ch1 of the output and channel 2 (keys) to go to ch2 of the output so they can be mixed to the front of house and monitor mixes. Is this even possible using mainstage or logic, or even by just using the headphone out on the macbook?

Since MainStage only deals with outputs in stereo. You'll need to do some panning. Pan your Guitar fully LEFT, and your keys fully RIGHT. That'll give you two separate outputs....
FYI, there are some issues with panning in MainStage 2. So, to get around this.... Create two Sub Aux channels. One called Guitar Out, and the other Keys Out. Do your panning there and not on the individual channels. And send channel one to the Guitar Out Aux, and the Keys to Keys Out Aux.

!!!Problems Using Logic With Reason in Rewire Mode!!!

Hi, Maybe someone can help me...
I can´t Hear any sound coming out of Reason into logic!
This is what i did:
1- loaded logic
2- loaded reason (used the Redrum, L+R and connected to the 1 and 2 Audio OUT of reason)
3- selected a audio track in Logic Pro (audio Track 1)
4- Went to the Audio parameters window, and selected from the drop down list
Rewire>RW:Mix L
5- pressed play... and nothing!! no sound
i used reason in ableton live 5, and works fine,.. so i know it is not a reason problem

Use method 2 to help you set up Reason and Logic.
Also you might want to upgrade from Reason 3.0 to 3.0.4.

Mainstage with M-Audio Oxygen 49

I've been having a lot of drop-outs using Mainstage with my oxygen 49. I'm running OSX 10.5.5 on a 2007 Macbook with a 2.16 GHz Intel processor and 4 GB of RAM. The only thing I can think of is that my computer somehow can't handle it, but it seems to me that it should be more than powerful enough to run Mainstage successfully. The reason I think it might be my computer is because most of the drop outs happen when there's more going on. For instance, when a piano player I know plays my keyboard she gets drop outs like crazy but she's using the sustain pedal and hitting a lot of notes. I'm a guitar player NOT a piano player so when I play the keyboard I'm usually using a synth pad and just holding down chords or playing a one note at a time riff with a synth lead patch. Any thoughts?

Hmm that does sound strange.
I have a fairly similar setup, and use both an Axiom 25 (connected to the laptop via USB) and a Roland A-33 (connected to the Axiom 25 via MIDI IN) at the same time, and haven't noticed any dropouts. (and for context, I am a piano player, so we're not talking index finger hen pecking here)
I use a MBP (2.16Ghz) with 2GB RAM, and my CPU utilization with 2 FM8 patches running concurrently is around 40%.
In order for a 'apples to apples' comparison, which patch(es) are you using?

Using Logic Pro with Reason 3.0

I am trying to use logic Pro with reason 3.0. I want to be able to sync them together to use redrum within reason as my drum machine. I am using a MOTU 828 mk II audio interface with 8 in's and 8 out's.
When I start logic first and the reason I am not hearing any sound from reason. I can see the meters move in the mixer of reason but I hear nothing.
From the standard documentation that comes with Logic all I can figure out is that rewire is there to sync any other rewire program so that can run side by side of one sequences transport controls.
I want to be able to hear audio from both my arrangement in Logic and in Reason at the same time in the same song in sync.
Can someone please tell me firstly if this is possible and if so how can I implement this kind of setup.

Common problem. LP doesn't rewire 'out of the box'.
There are two ways to do this (well, more, but I'll tell you 2)
1 (Easy Way):
Restart Mac (Just to be sure things are sorted, not everytime)
Launch Logic
Launch Reason
Arrange Window
Choose a Channel> Pan Left
Go to the Middle section of the Parameters on the Left
With the Channel pop up menu, select Rewire> RWMix L
Repeat for the Right and away you go.
2 (More Advanced)
Environment Window
In the Middle section of the parameters on the Left select Create
Name it Rewire
Under that windows "New" pull down (Top Left), pull down to Audio Object
In the "Channel" pop up (Left, bottom section) select>Rewire (Left, right, 3,4... What ever you want.
Double Click the Audio Object to expand it
Pan Left or right, or whatever you need.
Rename if you wish
Do the same for the other stereo sideNow's the fun part. Assign these stereo pairs to a bus (above the fader, the default is "Out 1-2")
Go to the Mixer window
Double click the Bus you assigned, this puts it in the arrange window
Arrange window
Name the Bus "Rewire" or "ReDrum" or something great like that.
Now you can use it like a stereo pair (which I wish Logic had) for automation and effects and such.

Can I use MainStage 2 with Logic Express 9.1.6

Is it possible to use MainStage 2 with Logic Express 9.1.6.? Are there any limitations to not having Logic Pro 9. I'm very happy with LE9.1.6. as it meets all my needs (perhaps with the exception of not having Space Designer) but if I need to upgrade to get the most out of MainStage 2 then I will.

Actually I have found a way for at least the instrument plug ins to be accessed.
I was able to set up an instance of Sculpture in MS2 and record it in LE using Soundflower.
Route the audio from MainStage to Logic and record onto an audio track in Logic as follows:
If not already installed, get SoundFlower. After installing it.
A) Setup the sound you want in MS2 and audio output to Soundflower (remember to Apply Changes or it does not hold).
B) In Logic Express set the audio input to Soundflower and create a new audio track for recording. Important: set Soundflower's audio output to however you listen to your audio or you won't hear anything.
C) Press RECORD and start playing, LE captures Mainstage's sound.
I have not tried to wire LE's output to MS2 to take advantage of Space Designer. but since this functions, I'm not sure why that couldn't work as well. It is still flipping though a few screens though...might just be easier to get Logic Pro from the App store....

Anybody using MainStage as their only live mixer?

I'm interested in mixing small combo gigs and maybe even some corporate a/v stuff using MainStage on my MacBook Pro in place of a mixing board.
I'd probably get a small MIDI controller like the Korg nanoKontrol for quick access to a few key parameters, but I'm not looking to get all King Tubby about it. Also, I'd like to keep the overall footprint small.
I'm figuring I would go with 8 in's and out's via my MOTU 896, and hook up to a power amp and speakers.
Thoughts? Experiences?

here's what I'm thinking about:
Came up with this idea the other day and going to start working on it in the next couple weeks. 8 channel firewire interface (eventually 16) into mainstage setup as a virtual mixer like a lot of people have done...and then using touchosc on the iphone/ipod touch as my wireless control surface to control the live mix. then using the 2 of the outputs on the interface for the mains, and then having 4 independent monitor mixes for each musician using powered monitors on stage. This method will hopefully allow me to save presets for each song.

touchosc is program on the iphone that is basically an interface that allows you to put whatever- buttons/faders/rotary knobs/pads/eqs/x-y grids/ect -that you want on up to 4 pages...if you google it you'll get some ideas of what all you can program on it...the iphone then connects to your computer over a wireless network and sends OSC signals to the computer...then use a program like osculator that converts those signals to midi signals that can be sent to mainstage...then use the learn function to map all of your parameters..and thats basically it. You would think that there would be latency going over wifi, but i hooked this thing up to ableton to use it like a small MPC beatpad, and there was no latency at all. Of course i created a direct wireless network from my mac to my iphone..that might have helped...
now obviously an iphone or ipod touch is small, but imagine doing all of this on an IPad? yes? I'm really excited about the IPad for this one reason almost...the idea of controlling the live sound "wirelessly" with a 10inch touch screen device from any part of the room...It theoretically sounds doable, but gonna have to go through some major testing before i rely on it.
the one part i havn't figured out yet is to be able to run a headset with built in mic into the IPads headphone jack to use for monitoring and as a talkback mic to the stage. If only the IPad could run multiple programs at a time.

Latency issue between Logic & MainStage with guitars

Any reasons why the latency is different between the 2 apps, even with the same setting?
I can use Logic with little problems but Mainstage is unusable with my guitar rig because latency. Even with no plug ins it's huge. Keyboards run perfectly though.
I'm using a 24" silver iMac, 4 Gigs of RAM, 10.5.1, apps on the main drive, recording to an external. The guitar is a Line 6 Variax is going through a POD XT Live (I realize I'll have some latency issues with this but it's not bad at all).
And this might be the problem right here: I'm a ProTools convert so I'm running an 1st generation MBox (USB 1) for the interface (surprisingly without any problems whatsoever).... I'm VERY curious to know if switching to a firewire interface would help the latency issues (looking at the Apogee Duet).

I'm hooked up to the ethernet using DHCP with manual address. It's running (green) but my internet (Safari, messenger, email) doesn't work! Help!

I'm running an iMac with Mountain Lion. Not only do we do accounting work on this computer with AccountEdge, but the computer functions as a server to another computer in a different state.
Anyway, I set a static IP address (Using DHCP with manual address) on it (to allow for a VPN to the computer in the different state) and it is connected (green dot) - meaning that the other computer in the different state can connect to us via that ethernet line - but for some reason Safari, Messanger, and Apple Email won't work.
But if I switch a dynamic IP (DHCP auto), I can use the internet (Safari, messanger, email), but the computer in the different state can't connect to this computer.
How can I fix this so that the computer in the different state can connect to this computer and that the internet (Safari, messanger, and email) can work at the same time?

No but if they are using a VPN Tunnel for the connection that restricts all internet traffic over the tunnel. Which means you can't use that same computer to broswe the internet or connect to other computers or devices on your LAN.
I'd need to see the actual setup, router and the IP addresses you are using.
Networking and remote networking is fairly easy when you are in front of the systems you are working on. Doing it over the internet on a forum is almost impossible. Tha is why I suggested you get local help, like the person that originally set it up.

I have follow trouble shooting , they recommend to go system preference -> display , thus can find out the mirroring icon if no mean it doesnt support. But according to the web, Early 2011 MBP should be able to use, dunno why.

Just realise I havent updated my OS to mountain lion and this is the reason why I cannot use mirroring before ^^

I want to set up firefox with 2 seperate home pages, using google with 2 different email addresses

I use igoogle, and I have 2 separete email addresses which I use for seperate reasons, as I will be setting up a web page using one of them. As to this I wondered if there was a way to set up having 2 shortcuts or 2 downloads of firefox with each one having a different homepage, but still using igoogle.
Do I need to download another copy of firefox and while setting it up, set it up with the different email address? Or is there another way of doing this? Or is it something that cannot be done?
