Using Male to 3x Female Stereo Splitter Audio Cable with audio out

The HP Pavilion 22-h031ea all in one has an audio out on the rear of the unit. Is it ok to connect this with a 6:1 audio system with a Male to 3x Female Stereo Splitter Audio Cable?

Simmo56, welcome to the forum.
I am not certain that this will work.  However, it won't damage anything to try it.  If it does work, you will not be able to have 6.1 sound.

  • Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,thanks, Derek

Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,any ideas? thanks, Derek

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

  • Male to male iphone audio cable with volume

Has anybody found a good quality male-male audio cable with volume control?  This is for an iPhone 5

if you mean an 3.5mm minijack cable then you would require an external power source to inc the volume it play

  • Audio concern with optical out (headphone jack)

According to Apple, unless I am blind, Macbook pros from 2008 cant support 5.1 via toslink in the headphone jack:
(Copied from Apples Tech spec page)
Connect external speakers, headphones, or optical digital audio equipment. The headphone / line output jack accommodates optical digital audio output, analog audio output with a 24-bit, 44.1-192 kHz D/A converter, *digital audio output up to 24-bit stereo and 44.1-192 kHz sampling rate* and supporting encoded digital audio output (AC3 and DTS). For analog headphone / line output a standard audio cable with 3.5mm metal plug should be used. For digital audio, a standard toslink cable with a toslink mini-plug adapter can be used.
Yet I read how people say they get 5.1 working. I don't get it. Apple says only up to 24 bit stereo.

Look in the Audio MIDI Setup utility when connected to the receiver and see if you can select it there. IIRC you must have a DVD encoded in surround sound in order to have the Mac put out the surround audio.

  • How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver. I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. thanks

How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver? I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. There are 4 HDMI-in ports on the receiver - BD, DVD, DVR/BDR and audio. In my system preferences for sound, the receiver doesn't show up as an output option. Can anyone please advise. (ps, this is my first time posting a question, so I hope I can find your answers!) thanks, JP downunder

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA  audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver.  Use something like this:

  • I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the Component and Audio ports on my TV?

I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the MacBook Pro and connected to the TVs Component and Audio in ports.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • Using audio cable with iPod

When I got my iPod, I bought a kit of accessories that included an AV cable, and audio only cable, etc. Since I have some yoga exercise videos on my iPod, I use the AV cable to connect the iPod to my TV so that I can do the practice. I've also done this for audio-only yoga practices by just connecting the audio plug of the AV cable (ie, instead of using both the audio and visual plugs).
So, what I'm not sure how to use is the audio-only cable. The one I have has plugs on either end that are identical, both with headphone symbols. So, yesterday I tried plugging one into my iPod, one into my stereo's headphone jack--it fit, but this didn't work, even when I turned my stereo to the AUX setting. Is it even possible for the stereo headphone jack to receive input coming in? Am I doing something wrong?
I'm sure this is a dumb question, but I'd appreciate any input!

Ya, going from headphone jack to headphone jack will not work as both are outputs.
The audio only cable is really made for things like car stereos that have a aux input jack of that type. For the home stereo you typically have RCA jacks (the red, yellow, and white style ones).
You can buy a cable with the 1/8" iPod headphone plug on one end and a pair of (red & white) RCA jacks on the other and use that, but you might as well just use the A/V cable you have an ignore the yellow RCA plug when using it for audio only.

  • No longer able to use non-apple lightning to 30 pin adapter cable with IOS 8

Do any of you use an Apple iDevice with a digital transport docking station to get your music from your device to your speakers using an external DAC?
I have an Onkyo ND-S1 which was great when using my iPhone 4S plugged into the dock sending digital audio through to my active speakers with built in DAC….
But since upgrading to an iPhone 6, running IOS 8.1.1 which has a lightning port, I purchased an aftermarket ‘lightning to 30-pin female adapter cable’ to continue using the dock with my new iPhone.
It doesn’t work. The adapter is not approved by Apple and somehow they have managed to bork all non-apple cables, ie it won’t charge, it won’t send digital audio. It’s essentially useless. Now, this is a cable that was manufactured & marketed specifically to allow iDevices with a lightning port to connect to digital transport docks, and I believe that it used to work with IOS 7.x, but it appears that with the rollout of IOS 8.x, Apple has done something that renders all non-apple cables redundant.
Apple sell their own £30 adapter cable, but that has its own DAC built in to the unit – now stupid question time: If I used one of these cables, would it (a) Do nothing, just like the non-apple cable, (b) Convert the audio to analogue, then send the converted audio to the speakers (by analogue cable only), resulting in a lower quality reproduction?  Or (c) Would it bypass the DAC in the cable and send the digital signal to the speakers?
Does anybody have any experience of this?

If the 3rd party adapter doesn't work it is because it is a counterfeit device The manufacturer has failed to licence the lightning technology from Apple ergo it does not work
Of course the Applr product will work ,infact most of the copies in very very small prin tsay in advert it does not support sound intended for charging only

  • Inconsistent audio volumes with audio inserted via Properties panel and Audio menu

My course includes audio imported using the Audio menu (Import to Slide). On a few slides that have Captivate 6 Interactions, I had to include the audio using the Properties panel so the audio would play during the course of the entire slide and not pause when the Interaction appears.
The issue I'm having is, the audio inserted using the Audio menu plays at a lower volume than the audio inserted using the Properties panel. All audio files were recorded at the same time using Adobe Audition, so the volume level should be the same.

Yes, we are having the same issue, calling up a video on Netflix and having zero audio. Seemingly random, yet consistent. If we try the movie a week or month later, it still has no audio. We have a newer Television, have the HDMI cord, optical audio, state of the art. We're upgraded to the latest. So .....what's up Apple?

  • Audio sync with audio and video shot separately

Using Final Cut Express, I am editing some old silent film footage (transferred to video) to a matching audio track that was recorded on a tape recorder. The camera that was used predates crystal sync, so what I have is picture with slightly varying speed throughout and audio with slightly varying speed throughout. This rules out the fit-to-fill type of solution where you get the beginning and end in sync and the middle should naturally fall into place.
What I have been doing is razoring the audio into 10-20 second chunks and applying a speed change to each chunk as I go to pull things back into sync. The speed changes are small enough (less than 1%) that there is no noticable pitch change. Each chunk gets a slightly different speed change to compensate as the camera and audio recorder motors wobbled about. (I'm effectively keyframing the audio speed changes).
All this works reasonably well, but I'd love to know if there was a better way to solve this problem. Some way to mark matching frames of video and frames of audio and letting the computer do the work to manipulate the audio speed would be very nice. There seems to be no way to do this particular trick within Final Cut Express. It was suggested on the Final Cut forums that Soundtrack might be able to.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Soundtrack Pro 2 can do a such process by stretching the audio file to match the lengh of video footage. I think you can even automate the process. But STP 2 is only available with Final Cut Studio 2.
Did you ask your question in the soundtrack (regular version) Forum ?

  • Can I use my iPad's Dock Connector to USB Cable with my iPhone 4?

I am a newbie with the Iphone from Verizon and I previously own a Ipad.
Are the cords between the two interchangeable such that I can charge them both with the same cord, at different times of course.
My question comes down to when I travel do I have to take both cords?

Yes, they are definitely interchangeable. Haven't even taken the cord out of the iphone box yet but have been using the charger that stays in the wall from my iPad. Way more convenient and I just think of it as having a "spare" charger just in case.

  • Minidisplay port to hdmi cable with audio support

I recently got an HDTV and want to hook up my Macbook (13" aluminum, 2009). I'd like an all-in-one cable and not have to have several connections.
This is one product I've found but the reviews aren't good at all:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997779
The reviews for this one are very good but I'm pretty sure my MB is too old for it to work:

Does anyone know of another product for the older Macbooks that would work well?

Thanks, this is a helpful article with good links.
For future reference, there is the one I ended up getting (great reviews):

  • Any Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio for macbook pro mid 2009

connecting MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to Hisense TV with audio?!?!!?
    hello everyone.
if anyone is familar with successfully getting the older macbook pros that dont support audio out to stream and preform digital audio on a TV or has any helpful information that will get me familiar with trying to successfully stream audio and visual. and can PLEASE HELP ME in any way to understand what they know and teach me how to solve my problem id really appreciate it.
i want to connect my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) to my Hisense LED LCD TV, ModelNumber:40H3E  and getting digital audio sound from my TV as well as video, but have no clue on how or where to even start to successfully pairing the two and getting sound.
I own a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) this MacBook model doesnt support an HDMI port. My MacBooks model has the Mini Displayport which supports video out but does not support audio out. Can someone help me by telling me exactly which Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter with audio will support my model MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) and exactly what HDMI wire do i need to buy that will successfully preform digital audio and sadisfying quality visual through TV?
i have NO expierence with the proccess have NO knowledge about any of this or these Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters with audio. i have no idea what kind of adapter and HDMI cord to buy that will give me sound from my tv for my type of macbook. '
im not familar AT ALL with any of this so i hope me giving you my MacBook Pros make and model and my TV's model number will be enough information for someone to help me.
just please give me anything you can on this topic
    thank you so much,

With a 2009 MacBook Pro, you need to use two connections to your TV: one for video and another one for audio.  The miniDisplayPort on the 2009 models does not support audio, so you need a separate audio cable:
miniDisplayPort adapter for video - I use the Apple miniDisplayport-DVI adapter + a DVI-HDMI cable like this one
audio cable for audio - use a 3.5mm male stereo-to-2xRCA male cable like this one
Connect the miniDisplayport adapter + DVI/HDMI cable to your MacBook Pro's miniDisplayPort output and the HDMI input on your TV
Connect the audio cable to your MacBook Pro's audio out and your TV's audio in
The only potential gotcha is if your Hisense TV requires audio via the HDMI cable when you use an HDMI cable.  The H3e user manual is unclear about this.

  • Audio Problems with connecting Macbook Pro to Tv

    Hello,
I connected my Macbook Pro to my 42 inch Vizio with a Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male Cable with Audio Transmission.  The picture is set to Mirror image and the picture is fine but I can not get any sound to tranfer from my Macbook to my Vizio.  From my understanding of HDMI I shouldn't need a the standard RCA red/white audio cords to connect the sound from my Macbook to my tv.  I did hear that Macbooks made before April 2010 can not transmit audio without using the red/white audio cords.
I've looked into the sound output on my Macbook and I was assuming my Vizio would display on there to click on to convert audio transmission from my Mac to tv but I don't see anything.  If anyone could help me I would appreciate it greatly.

I fixed this on my HDTVs by simply turning off all automatic and post processing features.
    Color/brightness etc...
Put everything possible on manual and turn off any color corrections and such things.
There really should be a Computer mode on all the HDTVs.
