Using Maps in another country

I'm traveling Thailand and I'm using Maps on my iPhone 3G. It's working fine; however, all the map data on the screen is in Thai. I know that Maps uses Google, so I went into google on the iPhone and changed my settings to English, but the Maps app still shows all map data in Thai...I want to switch it to English.
Any ideas?

I thought maybe this would be resolved in the 2.2 update, but no.
I see that True Corp are now advertising that they will be selling iPhones in Thailand soon, so maybe they will get this sorted out.
Cheers

Apple can do nothing. As Tim said, only the carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can authorize unlocking. You must contact that carrier.

Can I buy a 4s in the U.S. without a contract and use it in another country? I want to buy it in the U.S. but use it in Spain (probably with Orange)

As long as you buy an iPhone that is unlocked (aka "SIM free") not just without contract. Unlocked iPhones are available only from Apple Stores in the US.
Note that the warranty on the iPhone is not international, so if you have a problem with a US iPhone, you would have to ship it to someone who could take or send it to Apple for service and then ship it back to you.

  • I got an iphone from an apple store. does it mean that I can use it in another country (since it must be unlocked)?

Can I use it in another country?
Not sure what factory unlocked really implies..

With restriction and proper procedure, you can probably use the iPhone in another country.  As KiltedTim mentioned, you've failed to provide us with sufficient information.  Since you bought the iPhone form an Apple store, why didn't you speak with someone at the store?

  • If i buy a Unlocked iphone 4s and use it in another country will it work with the countrys data Services that are local

If i buy a Unlocked iphone 4s and use it in another country, will it work with the countrys Local data Services

    hi guys,
i recently bought a new iphone 4s factory unlocked. in order to avoid sim failures and invalid sim errors or No service errors, Each phone has to be unlocked by connecting it to the Itunes.
Kindly follow the below steps to avoid any SIM card conflicts
iPhone FULL Unlock - How it Works:
-Connect your iphone to itunes without any network sim inside and when connected click on the iphones name.
    - Click Restore install latest version of iTunes on your Pc or Mac or click check for updates
    - Let itunes Backup your phone and then Flash to the Latest Version.
    - Now disconnect phone and reconnect after 10 seconds.
    - Now Enter another network simcard that's not the same network its locked on to
    - Connect phone to iTunes with not accepted (not valid) simcard
    - Wait until iTunes detects the phone
    - iTunes will display (Congratulations, Your iPhone is now unlocked)
    - Phone Unlocked
    - just follow the instructions about activating the Iphone.
    and iphone is unlocked
NOTE : This is the only FULL LIFE TIME UNLOCK solution for Apple iPhone as the IMEI is registered as UNLOCKED in Apple database.
This solution should be used ONLY THOSE WHO BOUGHT FACTORY UNLOCKED iPHONE 4S.
Your phone will always be unlocked even after each new update of your phone firmware !
All reasons given like bad IMEI series, manufacturing defects etc blah blah are not logical as everything was tested before every sale.

  • I bought an IPhone 4s at an Apple store whilst living in China with the carrier China Mobile. It is a prepaid phone (no plan). Can I use it in another country by changing the SIM card? Or does it need to be unlocked? Can it be unlocked?

I lived in China when I bought the IPhone 4s with China Mobile. It is prepaid so I have to put money on my phone when it runs out. Now I'm living in Mexico and I was wondering if I could keep using my IPhone with the mexican carrier TELCEL. Can I just insert a new SIM card from this company? Or does it have to be unlocked? BTW I had no contract with China Mobile. Thank you in advance:)

Could it be because the SIM card got damaged while I cut it to fit the IPhone?
Very likely. Hard to believe the carrier in Mexico doesn't have a micro-SIM card available.
Or somehow the Chinese carrier found out and locked it?
    No, which is not possible.
What can I do? Get a new SIM and see if it works again?
Get a micro-SIM from the carrier in Mexico that you don't have to manually cut down. If that carrier doesn't provide one, switch to another carrier that is not so low-budget.

  • HT3529 Using imessage to another country

When we sent a message to another Iphone and showed the imessage in a blue ballon , Is it means that we are texting free??? Even if one user is in The USA and the other in Brazil??

It means you are not being charged for international texting. You are, however, using your data allowance.

  • Buy an iPhone in the US but use it in another country

    Hi forum!
I want to get an iPhone 4 in my current country (México). The problem is, the price of the 32GB device here is of $12,000 pesos, which is equal to approximately $1,000 US dollars. As you can see, I'd much rather buy a MacBook at that price.
I was wandering if there is any possibility to but the iPhone in the US (I have US citizenship and a residence in San Diego, so I visit often) and use it here with the Mexican carrier Telcel (they have iPhone plans), without contracting AT&T.

As to what others have said, you are just better off buying one in Mexico. No iphone in U.S, whether it's a contract or not, it is 100% locked to AT&T. Neither Apple nor AT&T unlocks them officially.
If you really want to buy a factory unlocked iphone, you have an option to buy it from Canadian apple online (only online) store. However, you need a physical billing and shipping address in Canada to order and it will not be shipped outside of Canada. If you have friends or relative in Canada, then have them order one for you. Keep in mind that the warranty is valid only in Canada, if purchased in Canada.

  • Using iphone in another country

It is posible to buy the iphone 5s unlocked in the UK and being able to use it in Spain?

According to the UK Online store. Yes, the iPhone 5S is unlocked.
    http://store.apple.com/uk/buy-iphone/iphone5s
Whether it will work on Spanish carriers depends on their bands.
Talk to your Mobile carrier for specifics.
Technically it should work on any GSM carrier, Though LTE may not be available in all areas.

  • Using a Skype number in another country?

Hey all, take a look at this link:
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA247/how-much-will-it-cost-my-friends-to-call-my-skype-number
Im in Australia and will be travelling overseas soon. Can i buy a Skype number with an Australian area code and use that in another country, e.g. Thailand.
More importantly, wouldn't this mean that my friends calling me from Australia would only be calling me on local rates, since I am essentially tricking the system by pretending I am in Australia.
The following however suggests such a trick may not be possible : "Note that before you can set up a Skype Number for certain countries, you need to provide proof of residence." (although since I am in Australia at the moment and a resident, it shuldnt be a problem for me).
Just seems to good to be true.
    Thanks

this only applies to CERTAIN countries (the majority of countries where Skype Nunbers are offered do not have this restriction) -- click here for more details https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA256/how-do-i-set-up-my-skype-number#4
otherwise Skype Numbers work as you have outlined -- you get an Australian number that the expected callers will ideally call at local rates, and your signed in Skype client magically rings wherever in the world you are physically located
buy a calling subscription before buying your Skype Number and you qualify for up to a 50% discount on your Skype Number (depending on the subscription length that you choose)

  • HT2589 in our country we dont have iTune Store if i create iTunes accounts in another country can i use my local bank credit card??

In our country we dont have iTune Store if i create iTunes accounts in another country (example UK) can i use my local bank credit card??

No, you need to be in a country and have a valid billing address in that country to be able to use a country's store. If there isn't an iTunes store in your country then unfortunately you won't be able to buy any content from iTunes.

  • Can I set up iTunes account in 1 country and then use it in another

Hi, I have upgraded my iPad 1 to an iPad 3. I want to set up and send my old iPad 1 to my great auntie (86) in the UK, I am in Spain.
I started setting it all up for her setting the country as uk, creating an Apple ID etc... But when it comes to iTunes, the Spanish shop opens and asks me to set up the Apple ID for iTunes. my question is can I set everything up from here ? download the few apps I think she will want and send her the iPad and she will have no problems,  or is she going to have problems as the details will be of a Spanish account, I am probably going to have to give my credit card, and the iPad will loose the apps , or won't let her create a uk account further down the line ?
Thank you, she will not be able to set it up herself so if I cannot set up from here I am going to have to find someone to do it for her over there.

You can only use the Store in the country where you are resident.  Items purchased in store in another country will no longer be accessible for redownloading when you change country but you can keep on using them as long as you have a copy on your computer.
It is not easy to change country and requires a valid billing method with a physical billing address in the other country.  There is also a 90 day wait period between country changes.  Furthermore, it is against the terms of service for the iTunes Store to even use your own country's store while not in your country, much less use another country's store.
"The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance." - http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE  (reads the same for pretty much any country).
