Using MDM workflow modeller MS Visio

Hi
Is there any document / blog / help document on using MDM workflow for different usecases.
I can build simple workflows using MS Visio, but am looking at docs which has some complex use case examples.
Any idea if any such are around.

MDM workflows and MS VISIO

Hi All,
1. I have just installed MS Viso 2003 standard.I am on MDM 7.1 SP00
when i click on the workflow(in Data Manager)... it opens a visio screen..... looks like the installation is fine & linked.
I design some workflow, But I am able to see only two users(owner and launcher) in fields "Assign Users", "CC".
..... means in available uses/selected users, I can see only these two users, though there are other users(approver, data steward etc) created in CONSOLE.
....... why I am not able to see any other users?? ........ any thoughts, where things went wrong ?
2. Also, I need to design a workflow where a new record has to be created and has to be sent to 3 users(user1, user2, user3) simultaniously and they will do the respective changes pertaning to their specifc areas(fields) and then has to be passed on to a single data reviewer.
Can you pls help me with the steps with the design...... espically passing to the simultanious users and getting updated and passed on to the reviewer...

A. this is the scnrio I need to design.
1. A record gets created.. and workflow starts
2. should be sent to 3 users simultaniously(user1, user2, user3)
ex. if user1 only enters some genral data, user2 enters tax related data, etc...
4. 3 approvers need to be assigned now for the respertive users(having different role).
approver1 checks for general data, approver2 for tax data, approver3...
5. If any of them gets disapproved .... should go to the concerned user.
6. If all the 3 approvers approve, should to sent to the final approver.

B. Also my notify step is not sending emails, I have provided the IP address, and disabled the LDAP in the .ini file, i provided a
valid email address for the wf owner........ do you think anywhere I missed out.
How do I know if I have provided the correct IP address..........any way to verify?

MDM workflow transfer from repository to repository

How to transport mdm workflows (as records & visio content) from one repository to another repository.
We just need workflows information from one repository to another.

You can either Archive in your case from the source repository and then Un-archive it in the target repository ( this too will copy everything) or else you can simply duplicate the rep. This will create a copy of the source and then manually you will have to delete all the un-wanted things.
If both these approach doesnt suit in your requirement, then I am afraid you will have to create the workflows manually in the target repository. Transportation of MDM objects is still not very strong enough in current versions. However, we can expext more improvements in the upcoming versions.

MDM Workflow Launch Problem version SAP MDM 7.1.2.59

Hi All,
I have installed SAP MDM 7.1.2.59 on SUSE Linux Server 64-bit m/c. And installed all Clients on Windows XP.
MS-Visio is also installed on my windows Box.
But when i open data manager i am seeing the workflow icon disabled. Also not able to add a workflow.
Any one knows what is the reason for this?
Please let me know if i need to add any specific patch at Server side.

Checkout your visio setting
In MDM Data Manager, make sure the Workflows table is the current table. In the Records pane, select any workflow record.
In the Record Detail tab, then double-click on the Workflow property to open Microsoft Visio. Choose Tools > Options from the Visio main menu.Choose File Paths to open the File Paths dialog. In the File Paths dialog, set both Add-Ons and Start-Up to the folder where the Worklfow.vsl file is installed (the Data Manager installation folder, by default). Click OK to close the File Paths dialog.

MDM Workflow for Exceptions

I have read about the Checkout/Workflow config for imported MDM records, but I cannot find an answer to the following query.
Can I create an MDM workflow when MDIS import files fail (go to Exception directory)? I would like to notify a user that there is an import exception and tell them some details about why it failed.

Hi Keith
this is not possible using MDM workflow for the reasons rightly explained above.
Instead the users can see the import logs and find out which records failed to import. if you are importing manually without MDIS.

Call MDM Workflow for Item Record

Hello,
We are implementing MDM 7.1 on Portal and want to trigger MDM Workflow through Webdynpro Java when a user edits a record for Item and clicks on 'Save'. I have captured the 'Post Save Event' in Webdynpro Java and received the Record Id of the Item being edited.
Now I want to execute the Workflow based on the RecordID. Can somebody send me the code for the same for connecting to the MDM Repository and starting the workflow for the Item record.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

MDM Workflow (no Properties pane in MS Visio)

Hi,
I am using SAP MDM version (5.5 SP5) (5.5.41.70) and workflow and MS Visio 2003 Professional.
When we go to MDM Data manager and create a new workflow and then click on "Microsoft visio document", system take me to MS visio screen but not show me any "Step Properties Pane".
Can anyone tell me that do i need to activate any service on windows OS or anything in console.

Hi,
Are you creating material in MDM using Data Manager or Portal. or Using ABAP API.
If your workflow trigger Action is "Record Create" then it should trigger workflow as soon as new material is created. I don't see any problem in this.

MS Visio 2007 for MDM Workflow

We are working on MDM SP06 patch 2.
Just want to know whether MS Visio 2007 version is compatible for MDM workflow since only 2003 products work fine with MDM .Has anyone tried this out?

Now, the email is not firing.
There is a setting to be done in .rhosts or in some particular
where you have to specify SMTP Mail Server.

Hi Kaushik,
For activating the Notification step in MDM workflows you have to make settings in the mds.ini file in the server folder location,where you have to mention the Smtp server taht you are using for sending the mails.
Bedsides this settings you will have to crete users in MDM console with their email ids so that they can receive mails acc from the owner of the workflow.
You will have to add the notify step in the Visio template and fill in the correct property details.
These settings should enable your mail services for the wf users.
The mail will be shooted in 1 sec to the desired user as the timeout default time is set to 1 sec however you can set this prameter,if the mail sending is failed due to any unknown reasons an error is loged but the sending is not redone.

Collection of reference workflow models in SAP R/3 for research

Hi,
within SAP R/3 (at least in version 4.6c) there must be a collection of reference workflow models modeled as EPCs that can be exported e.g. with ARIS Toolset for SAP NetWeaver. These models were used for some research about process metrics in the past (e.g. by Jan Mendling [1]).
For own research purposes, I am interested in these models. But the university I'm working with, has no SAP R/3 installation.
Is there a possibility to get these reference workflow models by SAP (of course strictly for research purposes)? I already sent an e-mail to SAP but haven't got any "fitting" answers - probably because my question did not rearch the right person for my problem.
Maybe, a SAP employee working in this area reads this message and can help me.

Thereu2019s no great secret that I have ever heard of... there is a central transaction SWDM (Business Workflow Explorer) in any ABAP system where you can access all of the workflows of that system using a search range e.g. by entering the appropriate application component.
From here you can display any workflow you have found using the context menu option (i.e. right click and choose display).
When viewing a workflow in the workflow builder, you can use the menu option Extras > Options > Display of Graphical Modelling View to swap to the Classic Event Driven Process Chains view.
Your best bet for transporting it is probably to use the Print... option in the menu then adjust the Output Options... to output it as a file and pick the file type you want to use.
Thereu2019s an X ML export option as well, but I suspect itu2019s just the image that you need.

I have a scenario to trigger a workflow in SAP R/3 from MDM
Objects need to be created in SAP for this
I found this in a pdf file
"A pre-requisite for connecting SAP Business Workflow to MDM is to build a BOR Object which represents the products in MDM. But how does this BOR Object really communicate with MDM?
Using MDM ABAP API Creating an ABAP code which communicates with MDM via MDM ABAP API (available as of MDM 5.5 SP3). Using the ABAP API directly from the Workflow environment simplifies integration between SAP Business Workflow and MDM, but makes integration to other systems more difficult as ABAP is not the greatest environment with regards to openness."
How do I go about it ? Where is this API and how do I use it ?

Create a data a source using ur ODBC tool. This can be found in Administrative tools of windows.
In ur connectino class u can write the following code
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
Connection con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc.odbc.dsnname u have given when u created data source","user namet","pwd");( I think there is no need to give username when u connect to ur access)
The connection "con" is ready to use.. Put these statements inside a try catch...
