Using Memory Sticks for iTunes

I am transferring iTunes from my old computer onto my new laptop, instead of using up the harddrive, can I transfer iTunes onto a Memory Stick instead of onto the laptop ?

b Now he has bought a brand new Sony VA10 laptop with 512mb and put his iTunes and ipod onto it but he wont let me
He won’t “let” you? Who paid for the computer??
b put my iTunes onto it because he says it will be too much on his memory.
iTunes is a program. You do not need to load it more than one time onto the computer.
The actual song files are what take up space.
b Now we want to sell our old computer and too save him moaning I wanted to know if I could transfer my iTunes onto a large Memory stick and just plug it into the laptop when I want to download onto my ipod?
Might be possible but not very easily accomplished.

How do I use a memory stick for my pictures?  I put it in the side of computer?  I want to look at
my pictures on it and save more on it?

Open Finder, the stick will be in the left hand pane, click on it and what is on the stick will show up in the right hand pane. Double click on one of them and it should open in Preview or iPhoto.
You can use iPhoto for this also and you can copy images from iPhoto onto the stick.
I dont use iPhoto, I use Lightroom, and when I do something like this I use Finder.

  • Use cellular data for iTunes Match & Radio but not app Updates

Is there any way to set an iOS device so that it will allow using cellular data for iTunes Match and iTunes Radio but not downloading app Updates. I want to be able to set my wife's phone so that the apps are automatically updated over Wifi but she can then use iTunes Match and iTunes Radio when she is out. She only uses those in limited capacity so I am not too worried about her using up her data plan with those. However, app Downloads seems to be quite large, and they happened a lot recently when they all updated for iOS8.
    Thanks,
    Tony

No, but you could turn off Updates under Automatic Downloads in Settings>iTunes & App Store, then update them manually when you're connected to wifi.

While you're in itunes, with the leftside window open, click on Apps. Then, look across the top middle of your itunes screen. You will see several choices: All, Iphone/iPad Touch, Ipad, Ipod Games, List, and Updates.
Clicking on each of these gives you a different view.
When you select ALL you will see all of your apps. When you select Updates you sill see only the apps that need to be updated. When you are in Updates you will see the Update button in the lower right corner.
    Hope this helps.

I want to copy images to a memory stick for sharing with my family. This was possible in iPhoto via copy/paste but does NOT seem to be possible with photos...

You can drag and drop (this will result in a compressed JPG) or hold the alt key and drag and drop (this will copy the original). You can also select the pictures and choose Export from the File menu.

can I just use gift cards for itunes and not put a credit card on my account

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can do that without any problem. That's what some people do to purchase content from the iTunes Store, App Store or iBookstore

  • Can I save to memory sticks for read and write access?

I use M.S. Office for Mac to do my admin. I would be very grateful if anyone can help with my queries.
I want to save work to media that allows me read and write access. Saving to discs (of any type) does not allow any editing.
    1. If I save to a memory stick will I be able to save and update my work when I want to?
    Also;
    2. Would a memory stick have to be formatted with to be suitable for Mac?
3.If the memory stick can be used for the purpose, I want to encrypt it; how would I do this please?
    4. Would encrypting place a limit on the capacity of the memory stick that can be used, e.g.  I have a choice, including 8Gb and 16Gb.
    5. I have heard that passwords can be created by Mac; what is the method for doing this please?
    Many thanks for in advance.

There is terminology here I am unfamiliar with. I feel I have embarked upon a complex path.
I do not know what HFS+ is.
HFS+ is the Mac OS X file system.  Hierarchical File System Plus (Plus as it used to be HFS, but then they improved it and said +)
By default a USB flash drive generally comes formatted with FAT (from the Microsoft MS-DOS days, but is a universal format - it might come with FAT32 or exFAT as well - still from Microsoft).  Mac OS X can read/write these, HOWEVER, its FileVault whole disk encryption is only designed to work with HFS+, which is why I mentioned it.
Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility can be used to reformat a disk, USB Flash drive, etc...  NOTE:  reformatting does erase everything on a disk, so keep that in mind.
What is the difference between File Vault and .dmg in disk utilities?
FileVault is whole disk encryption.  Everything on the disk is encrypted. and you need to enter the password just to mount the device.
A .dmg file is a regular file that happens to contain a file system inside of it.  When you double click on the .dmg file, Mac OS X will mount the file system inside as if it was a disk.  If the .dmg file is encrypted, then you will be prompted for the password before Mac OS X will mount it.  A .dmg is just a container for a file system.  Inside that contain is a full file system with files and directories just like any other file system.
You can create read only .dmg files, you can create read/write, you can create sparse (you declare the maximum side, but the initial size of the .dmg is small and will grow to the maximum size as you add things to the .dmg, you can create encrypted .dmg.
Since a .dmg is just a file with no special attributes on the outside, it can be copied around.  You can copy it over the network, you can store it in the cloud, you can put it on a USB Flash drive, you can put it on an external disk, etc...
If the device you put it can be mounted by Mac OS X, then you can double-click on the .dmg and it will mount the file system inside the .dmg and you will be able to access the files in the .dmg
This even includes USB Flash drives that use the FAT format family.  But you existing external disks can be used for that as well.
If I used an external hard drive for the purpose I have in mind, would the  disk .dmg utility allow me to access folders and files for editing or should I approach the task in a different way?  I would still wish to encrypt.
As I said above, the .dmg is a full file system where you can store files and folders inside a .dmg container file.  And you can encrypt the .dmg so it is secure.

  • Memory stick for msi km3m-v mobo

    Hello all,
I'm asking on behalf of a good friend of mine who called me the other day to have a look at his pc as it was having a bad performance.
So I went to his place, saw that it was really going very slow, and opened the case to have a look at the components…
At first glance, I could observe a lot of dust and one memory stick of DDR 256MB at 333mhz.
I cleaned all the dust (looks pretty clean now), uninstalled all the unnecessary programs he had and decided to get him more memory, as 256MB (despite that he only uses his pc for e-mail checking, word and occasional websurfing) is not enough to improve the performance.
So I looked at the specs of his motherboard and found out that it only supports 333mhz.  I found two shops here that still support this memory, only DDR 512MB sticks though at 333mhz.
Now the question is:  Could it be possible to fit in one stick of DDR 1GB at 400mhz? Would the mobo adjust itself the clockrate to 333mhz so that the pc can run?  Actually 1GB DDR memory stick at 400 mhz is cheaper than 2x512 at 333mhz    What do you think guys…should I go for 2x512MB @ 333mhz or 1GB @ 400mhz
Also, I do not know which Bios version he’s using, I think that I won’t touch it as the system is running well and the latest Bios update is from 2004, almost as old as his pc.
But looking at the msi link from above I found that the Lan / Chipset and Sound driver indeed have updates, respectively from 2008 / 2007 & 2006.
Would you recommend to install these latest versions ? I think at least that the Lan driver makes sense…or?
Thank you again for reading this,
    Best regards,
    Koiishi

    Hi Bas,
Thank you for your answer   Don't worry, I won't touch the Bios , I wouldn't like to ruin a mobo which is not mine
I'll get then 2x512 MB DDR 333mhz, I also think that if the max FSB is 333mhz the memory should not exceed it. At least I think that my buddy will notice a significant peformance improvement with 1GB compared to 256MB DDR
    Kind regards,
    Koiishi

  • USB Memory Sticks for TM Backups?

Has anybody ever tried using a large USB memory stick as a nicely-portable Time-Machine backup drive?
In high-level concept it seems like it would be possible, but I seem to recall that a TM backup drive needs to be formatted in a certain particular way (MacOS Extended Journaled, as I recall), so perhaps not.

Flash drives simply don't have the capacity to function as a TM backup drive. Of course you can certainly use one but they are slow and small. They are useful to carry some data about but they are not intended to replace a hard drive. TM is not intended to maintain portable backups. Though it can be used in that way, it's not really designed for such a purpose.
Reasonably priced flash drives are available in capacities up to 16 GBs, but going above that is impractical both because of cost and lack of size over 32 GBs.
A full system backup requires at least 8 GBs of space. Since an 8 GB flash drive only formats to slightly less than 7.5 GBs, you would need to start with a 16 GB flash drive as a minimum.

  • I am using external drive for iTunes why does it put art on internal

I have my itunes library on an external drive which works quite well for the most part. However it keeps recreating an itunes folder and subfolders on my internal drive mainly artwork and .itdb, .itl and  .xml files in user/music/itunes. this is quite annoying because I am trying to keep as much data as possible off my internal drive for space considerations. I have tried deleting these files but itunes  just recreates them. Does anyone have any ideas?

    pharmercist wrote:
Solved the problem. When I initially moved itunes to the external drive I copied the entire iTunes folder and seleted the appropriate library drive in preferences
This is not the correct way to do it.
This still uses the iTunes folder on the internal for the iTunes library file, artwork etc.
Holding Option and Choose library... tells iTunes to use everything in the iTunes folder you select.
Holding Option and Choose library... you do not need to change the Tunes prefs > Advance - iTunes media folder location.

  • HT201371 Can I use touch id for iTunes Store purchases without having a phone passcode turned on?

I really don't want a passcode but I love not having to enter my complex password on the small keyboard.  Why does this option have to be linked to a passcode?  Doesn't make a lot of sense.

    From the article:
You can set up Touch ID in iOS Setup Assistant or by tapping Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. To set up Touch ID, you must first set a passcode. Touch ID is designed to minimize the input of your passcode, but you need a passcode for additional security validation, such as enrolling new fingerprints.
So yes, that's how it's designed. You must have a passcode, though as long as you understand the caveats:
In addition, you will need to enter your passcode to unlock your iPhone in these conditions:
    After restarting your iPhone 5s
When more than 48 hours have elapsed from the last time you unlocked your iPhone 5s
To enter the Touch ID & Passcode setting
    and
You can't use Touch ID for purchases if Require Password in Settings > General > Restrictions is set to Immediately.
you should be able to use Touch ID without needing your passcode. If none of those circumstances is true and you're still being asked for your passcode to make a purchase from the iTunes Store, it would seem that something is amiss with your iPhone.

  • Problem in using 2 IDs for iTunes music purchase downloads and using iTunes Match for 1 ID

    Dear support managers,
We are using 1 macbook pro and 2 apple ID for purchasing iTunes music together (Me and my wife).
Actually, I have bought 1 year service of iTunes match on my apple ID and have been using well the service after download the purchased musics under the apple ID I am using.
But once my wife associated the macbook pro with her apple ID to download the musics she purchased,
I have not been able to use the iTunes Match service I have subscribed already.
    The message said
"This computer is already associated with an Apple ID. You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 90 days"
I can neither purchase another computer for solving this situation nor want to purchase another iTunes Match service on my wife's apple ID.
Please help me out to solve this issue.
    Thanks and best regards,

    Hi,
You can only use one Apple ID with iTunes match. Purchasing another match subscription using wife's Apple ID is not a solution. I can only suggest that you use your ID for match and all iTunes music purchases.
