Using Message+ when traveling overseas

I use Message+ on my phone, tablet, and desktop computers.  I'm planning a trip overseas, and don't plan to buy an international plan.  If I keep my phone in airplane mode and use Wifi, can I use Message+ without getting charged for any phone usage?

Yes

With Airplane Mode you will not receive phone calls.  If you are just worried about Data Charges then just go to Settings>Cellular>Data 'Off'  This may also turn your iMessage off such that all your iMessages even in a WiFi environment go out as Text Messages.  If you still want to use iMessage from Apple device to Apple device in a WiFi network then go to Settings>Messages> and turn it back on after you have set Cellular Data to Off.  Ckuan is correct though about having some per minute received or outgoing call and text charges.  For one example, if you were traveling in Canada but didn't have a Canada Plan you would pay about 89 cents per minute and 50 cents per send / receive Text.

  • Using iPad when travelling

When I am abroad on holiday I sometimes need to use my iPad to  receive large photo and video files.
Worse, I am often in places with poor wi-fi coverage.
How reliable is 3G at downloading video files?
How can I locate wi-fi hotspots when travelling?

I have an app called 'free wifi finder' by jiwire, inc
and it has a database to find wifi hotspots, and an offline database you can download as well. Seems to do pretty well for me.
At the very least you could look at it and see what entries it has for where you're going, just to get an idea.

  • Can not use message when phone is horizontal

When i want to use message and i turn the phone horizontal the screen turns off as soon as I start typing. This only happens in message. I can be using the internet and works just fine when i am typing.
There is no issues when i leave the phone vertical and use message.
Is there anything i can do to fix this issue?
    I have an iphone 4s

    Try this first:
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • Can I use a sim from another carrier when traveling overseas?

Can I use a sim from another carrier while in Europe or Canada to enjoy local rates and avoid roaming charges?

If your phone is officially unlocked, yes. Otherwise, no.

  • You can't used 3G when traveling to another country

I live in Canada but I found a new problem with AT&T when trying to get your 3G working when you travel to the states. You have to sign up with with a US address for the 3G to work. I don't have a US address and credit card too only one from Canada. It's a catch 22. Apple says it's unlocked but you can't used unless you have a US address.
So I would like to know how can you use iPad 3G when you travel to US or any other place in the world.. WiFi yes but why buy a 3G when you can't connect to AT&T. AT&T should make plans for people who travel in the US.

Rogers comes with a Micro Sim card with the iPad.
Once the iPad ships in Canada, I'm sure it will. Have you asked Rogers what their plans are for international travelers with an iPad purchased in the U.S. or in another country when the iPad 3G is available in other countries in regards to purchasing a data plan?
The iPad 3G was just released in the U.S., and it isn't available in other countries yet. Obviously the 3G sold in the U.S. is currently set up to have a data plan with AT&T. In order to have a data plan with AT&T for the iPad at the present time, you need to have a credit card with a U.S. billing address, and the billing address must be in an area where AT&T has coverage. They have coverage in most or many places, but not all. No carrier in the U.S. has 100% coverage over every square mile.
This may change for international travelers, but the iPad 3G was just released in the U.S. on Friday and isn't available in any other countries yet.

  • "Invalid IP used" message when visiting a website?

I've visited http://www.pretty-scary.net/ plenty of times in the past without difficulty (I'm also a contributor there), but recently when I try to go there I get a white page with "Invalid IP used" in the upper left hand corner of the window. I don't get this message with any other website I've visited. I'm still able to visit the website and log into the forums at other people's houses on their computers.
Right now I'm using my iBook with 10.3.9 and the problem occurs in Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. I have the same problem on my iMac DV.
The site adminstrators said they don't have any IPs blocked. I spent time on the phone with Roadrunner trying various things: clearing history, cache, cookies, PINGing the site (no problem there), creating a new location in the Network System Preferences and deleting the old one, installing the latest version of Macromedia Flash, but to no avail.
Any idea of why this might be happening, what I could try doing, or what I could suggest to the site's maintainers to try? Thanks!

Did the ISP have you unplug the cable box, wait 30 seconds, then restart?
Also, look in your library (main or user) >preferences> ByHost folder. Remove any networkconnect items. Restart Safari. If no change, move these items back into their original location.
    Post back with results.

  • Using ATV when moving overseas

We are moving overseas (the Netherlands) and wondering whether our ATV will allow us to rent movies there too? Will we have access to the same content? Are there any other things we should be aware of?
    Thanks for any insights...

AppleTV has a universal power supplu so from a hardware viewpoint it will be fine so long as you have an adaptor for th epower lead plug for the country of use.
A different countries iTunes store can definitely be accessed when in another country, but you need a valid store account from the country you're trying to purchase from - you should already have one.
I think other users have mentioned they can access the US store from overseas but can't directly confirm that for AppleTv directly as I'm in UK without a US account. I know for certain you can access US iTunes store from abroad on a Mac/PC. I suspect this is so that people abroad on holiday or business can still make purchases. While this works now, there is no guarantee that in the future access will not be restricted if the store determines from the IP of the purchasing machine/device that you're outside the US.

  • Using iPad when travelling to Europe

Can I use my iPad in Italy and other places in Europe.  Am only interested in connecting via WiFi?
Is there anything special I need to do this?

Here is my experience April 2014   (Ipad 4)
I purchased a Lebara sim card (data only) in Amsterdam near the central train station from Phone Point, (Address:  Haring Pakkers--Steeg2-4, 1012 LR).    It was on a small side street, not a main street where prices are much higher.  The card worked all over Holland.  The young man was very helpful, helped me decide how many gigs I would need, and made sure it was connected before I left the store.  I felt he was  honest.  He changed the APN number.  (If you have a current sim card, be sure to take a picture on your ipad  in Settings before the number is changed, so you can change back when you return to the USA.  I have a Verizion sim card, but it automatically changed when I reinserted it back in my iPad when I came back to Los Angeles.)
When I arrived in Prague, I purchased a data sim card from Vodafone at the main train station.  Again, the young man who waited on me was very helpful.   He changed my APN and made sure it worked before I left the store.
If you change sim cards like I did, take a picture in Settings of the APN number.  I returned to Holland, so I used the Lebara sim card again after returning from Prague.  I had the APN pic in my Camera Roll, so I referred to the picture to change the APN.
You will need an adapter to charge your iPad.
They can be purchased here in USA or in Europe at phone stores,

  • Charging iPad when travelling overseas

I bought the PlugBug World iPad/iPhone Charger (I live in Canada). When I travel to Australia can I just plug my iPad in with it, or do I need something to convert the power too?

Thank you for your feedback. I suspected that it would be okay, but I just wanted to be sure as I didn't want to fry my iPad

  • Using iPod when travelling

I would like to know if you can store your iTunes library online, I am going travelling for a year and want to change some of my music from time to time.
      Windows XP

Well, there are places that provide online storage for a fee.
But how are you going to make sure you have access to a PC with iTunes installed?

  • IDCS3 file in use message

We are getting a file in use message when we try to copy and paste from Word to idcs3. However there is only one person with the file open. Has anyone else received this message? Any help would be appreciated.

    > Thank-you I will try and have the students do that.
Actually no one has yet given you a suggestion, so I'm not sure what
you're going to have your students do. I asked you a question (Are you
sure you don't mean "Place" instead of "copy and paste"?), which you
    haven't really answered.
    > We are getting
    > the message that the idcs3 file is already in use not the word file.
What is the exact message, and when are you getting it? Copy and paste
between applications is three separate actions (copy, switch apps,
paste). How are you switching apps? How do you resolve the problem? Do
you lose access to your ID file permanently every time you try to copy
from Word, or have you found a way to get back into it?

  • HOW TO DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET WHEN TRAVELING INTERNATIONAL

HELLO EVERY ONE.I RECENTLY TRAVELED TO CANADA,WHEN I RETURNED BACK HOME I RECIEVED AN $1800 CELL PHONE BILL,$1000 OF THE BILL WAS INTERNET USAGE,I ADD AN INTERNATIONAL FEATURE BEFORE I LEFT BUT IT WAS LIMITED (HOW DO YOU CHECK HOW MUCH USAGE YOU HAVE USED WHILE BROWSING).SO I ASKED AT&T/A GUY IN THE APPLE STORE,BUT NO ONE REALLY KNOW HOW TO DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET AFTER USING IT,WHEN TRAVELING INTERNATIONAL.(MY TREO HAD AN OPTION THAT ASKED DO YOU WANT TO DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET)(THE IPHONE DON'T)

If you have upgraded to version 1.1.1 or later there is a switch to disable cellular data while roaming. By default it is set to disable data. Settings/General/Network Data Roaming.
You can monitor cellular data usage in Settings/Usage. Reset it just before traveling.

  • How do I set up email accounts to send emails while travelling overseas using various wifi locations?

How do I set up email accounts to send and receive
emails while travelling overseas using various wifi locations?

Many ISP provided email accounts limit connections to their outgoing SMTP email servers to only connections coming from their own network. So, if you try to send email when not connected to their network (i.e. when not at home), the connection will be rejected.
If you are using an ISP provided email address, in these circumstances, you'll need to ask your ISP if they provide an "authenticated SMTP connection" so that you can send email via their SMTP server when not actually accessing the internet via their network. You'll need to enter your email account username and password in the Outgoing SMTP server settings and possible configure SSL or outgoing port numbers. Your ISP will be able to advise on this though, as the exact setting vary between ISPs.
By far the best solution though, is to use an email account that is not tied to any particular ISP, such as a GMail account, as these can be used from anywhere, on any network and provide authenticated SMTP as standard.
