So, a few months ago, I got a brand new HP computer(with windows 8, if that helps). I've never had any problems, except for one time when it screwed up the time somehow, but anyways; The up and down arrow keys don't work. At all. They don't scroll, they don't move anything up and down, nothing. Not the normal arrow keys or the keys on the number pad. They've only done this for a little while, a few days maybe. On day they worked fine, the next, nothing. I don't really think it's the keyboard itself, because on the number pad, 8 and 2 work fine. just not as arrow keys. Yes, I tried pressing num lock. Nothing. Along with that, I attempted to see if the up and down keys worked with the on screen keyboard- Still nothing. The left and right keys work totally fine. I don't know what to do, and this it /really/ frustrating. Please help!

    Hi Brady,
Your issue may occur if the backup files is larger than 4 GB, in my opinion, it's better to format the USB drive first, then test if you can backup a small folder in the USB drive. You can try to backup a user file using the following steps to test your issue.
    1. Open Control Panel and start creating a backup from the Backup and Restore center.
    2. Select the USB drive as your location, then choose what to backup. please choose the option "Let me choose".
    3. Uncheck all option, and choose a small folder.
Note: Uncheck the option before "Include a system image of drivers: Unnamed driver".
    4. Start your backup process.
If you can make the backup. it's better to backup your files to a bigger USB drive.
I hope this can help you.

  • Why can't 4.01 connect after updating from Firefox 4? I must use a system restore to get back online with Firefox 4, using Vista Home Basic SP2.

Firefox is my default browser. Recently I updated from 3.5 to 4.0 with no problem. Then, using 4.0, the new update notice appeared. I clicked to update to 4.01, but after downloading, 4.01 could no longer connect to any web page, and displayed the error connecting message (including "server may be busy, wait and try again" etc.). It never did connect. Yet Internet Explorer was able to, which I loathe to use even as a back up browser. I also checked to see if IE9 had stolen the default browser association, but it hadn't. I was hoping I could blame Microsoft's shenanigans, oh well!
I then did a system restore from a point a few days prior, and 4.0 was up and running like before.
Twice thereafter, I tried to update again manually, using Help/About Firefox/Check for Updates. The same thing happened.
I'm content for now to stick with 4.0. FYI & FWIW, I tried to provide this feedback to Mozilla at another page, and was told I must have "the latest version" in order to submit feedback. I'm glad I found this way of letting you know of this repeated problem.

  • Hard Disk free space lick after system restore windows 8.1

I did a system restore and after that, the laptop was functioning slowly. I realised that the disk usage was spiking. Later I realised also that I was constanlty loosing free space from my hard disk without downloading anything or any action. I run the windows
performer recorder when the spikes occurs.Link in OneDrive https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=26DCEC24336471AC%21106  . Furthermore when the laptop is on idle the disk usage goes to 100%. Task manager shows that most of the usage is from svchost.exe(defragsvc).
(I dont think it is a scheduled act from windows to run defragging at the moment). What could be? Any advice?

    Hi,
From your recorder information, we could see these 5 process below take high disk space:
    WPRUI.exe
    System
    vprot.exe
    avgui.exe
    avgcefrend.exe
Since you run the Windows performance toolkit to trace the log, exclude WPRUI.exe and system. It seems you use AVG product.
I suggest you disable or uninstall them temporarily to check if the disk usage decrease.

  • System restore windows and itunes

Is there a way I can save my music (itunes) on my iphone after I system restore my computer? I want to back up my music through my account or my phone so that when I system restore my computer I don't have to redo all my playlist etc.

    ej25lol wrote:

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Turingtest2 provided a great solution for backing up the iTunes media.... in addition to that, if you do not regularly backup the computer, I would strongly encourage you to do so.  A computer can fail at any time, anything from a physical drive failure, OS/data corruption, lost/stolen device, to an act of God that damages/destroys the system.  Not having a backup is a very unintelligent thing to do.

  • After System Restore windows programs not loading, and other issues!

To preface this I have no interest in keeping vista on here I have a CD with windows7 setup on it that I would like to install either on a new partition or over the exsisting one but no clue how to do this right, and when I tried booting up from the CD it gave me an error, so I can't do the setup that way, however I did get a version of windows xp (hiren's minixp) to boot from a thumbdrive, however I could not get my wireless internet to work on it. however thru ethernet it did, but need wifi!) I need a computer for tomorrow morning for my new job orientation is done thru a website and I need a computer to use at thehotel (im out of town) so its not an option taking it to a repair shop tomorrow (its sunday and all), or sending back to lenovo plus its outta warranty.
Help! I am very novice at best with techy stuff so I will try to explain this the best that I can. I've had a lenovo N500 Laptop running Vista Home Edition for a couple years now. It did not come with any recover cd's or anything like that. It was starting to run slow, so I figured I'd do the old trusty Factory Restore and start fresh, always did the trick on other computers I owned with windows. Well I went through the whole process of restoring it, and did the initial system setup and naming. When it loaded my desktop for the first time it was all downhill from there. There is no IE installed, no default programs would open, instead I got this error message (example when opening Windows Mail).
    C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe
The specified path does not exsist.
Check the patch, and then try again.
It does this for every program. Here's the thing the only C:\ Drive that shows up is assigned to removable disk. Here are the current labels for my default Drives.
    Lenovo(Q
    ServiceV003(S
    SW_Preload(D
So I think the issues possibly that when it was reformatted it labeled the drive a different letter, so it's trying to pull the files from the C drive as a path,. but it needs to be q or s or d or something. Keep in mind this is my very novice theory.

    for wireless issue:
have you checked device managemer for unknown/non-installed devices? you may need to install drivers for your adapters.
try to press f8 when you see lenovo logo, then load "safe mode with networking", check if the adapters work.
can you tell us what error you got when you tried to install win7? also, some of applications doesn't come with preloaded systems so you need to install them later ( as windows mail, msn messenger )

  • Issues with using the system restore discs from Acer

I am trying to restore an Acer laptop using the restore CD's that I ordered from Acer. Everything works fine until the restore gets to 93% copy progress and 24% copying progress and then the restore locks up. I have tried it 3-4 times with the same issue happening each time. Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Richard
[edited for privacy-please do not post personal or unique information such as but not limited to full names, email addresses, phone numbers, serial numbers, etc.]

I did try the reinstall process using the ALT+TAB keys and this did not fix the issue. The system is locking in the same place of the restore every time. I feel this may be an issue with the hard drive and therefore I feel it will be necessary to replace it. Does this sound like and accurate assumption?

  • My win 8.1 laptop does not do system restores, never has.

Have had my HP 15 Touchsmart laptop for almost a year and it has never performed a system restore when requested.
After going through the motions, the message on the desktop says the action was not completed and to try it once again.
How much disk space should I assign it to use?  Meanwhile, it does not perform that much needed task.
I do not really want to undertake doing a complete reinstallation, it has happened to me before with my previous computer-starts to work correctly then it stops.  With my present laptop, sys restore has never worked.
    Any suggestions or comments.

I understand that you have never been able to get system restore to work on your notebook. I did some searching, and found a common cause of this is often some third party software, commonly antivirus software.

  • Win 7 x64 - Need to repair a single driver, but can't use System Restore

Basic Info - an HP/Compaq Elite 8200 Convewrtible Minitower with 2 extra SATA drives & a Creative SoundBlaster card installed.
Background:  My system had begun going into Blue Screen (BS hereafter) every couple of days with a message that the BIOS was not "fully ACPI compliant."  I contaced HP and was able to obtain & install the needed BIOS upgrade.  Following this, I decided to do some housekeeping & checked for out-of-date drivers.  I installed these one at a time, as I had a previous bad experience with updating too many drivers, particularly Intel chipset drivers, at a single time.  When I finished the last update, which involved two drivers labeled IntStrA and IntStrB, if I recall correctly (I'm posting this from my PC at work, so I may have the names off by a character or so) my system began going BS after ~10 minutes or so.  Nearly every BS referenced the MicroSoft system driver wdf01000.sys.
It is my belief that either wdf01000.sys became corrupted, or the last 2 updates were having a negative impact on the M S driver.  Unfortunately, if I try to use System Restore to roll back the suspect updates, the system will BS ~1-2 minutes after the m essage "Restore is initializing" appears.
The only solution I can get from the HP Tech is to back up my data and then use the "Erase, Reformat & Reinstall" function from the Recovery Disks.  Unfortunately, with a system that goes B S every 10 minutes, it is impossible to perform a reliable back-up for all 3 disks, while the Recovery Disk is only willing to back up my drive F:\, not my primary OS Drive, C:\ or my other drive, G:\ (the HP Recovery partition is drive D:\).
    My questions are:
    1.  If the problem is a corrupted WDF01000.sys is it possible to obtain a reliable copy of & replace it?  (The HP tech warned about the danger of obtaining a copy of a MicroSoft sysem file from the internet - a danger of which I was fully aware - but, isn't there at least one system in HP's possession running Windows 7 x64 professional?  I should think a file supplied from HP would be sufficiently safe.  However, when I raise the possibility with the tech, there is no response.)
    2.  If the problem stems from the last 2 Intel driver updates, is there a way to get a functional OS loaded from DVD that would peremit System Restore to run?  My last system had Win 7 installed from MS media and, as I recall, once loaded, the use of System Restore was one of the repair options.  The HP Recolvery disks only offer 2 choices - back-up (which would only cover drive F:\, with <10% of my 4+ years worth of data) or "Erase, Reformat & Reinstall."  Following this course would put at risk ~90% of my data, not to mention the grief of reinstalling a great deal of software.
    3.  The HP tech tells me that, since Recovery is only willing to back up drive F:\, this is where the Recovered OS would be installed.  This would give me the independently loaded OS I sought in question 2.   However, I greatly fear that drive where recovery operated would be my primary OS drive, C:\.  If this were the case, the result would be disastrous!  I do have back-up via Carbonite, but I don't think this has been operating properly since the ACPI-related BSs began.
So -- any suggestions?  Anything that gets me out of this problem without loss of data will be most sincerely appreciated!
    Tom Filipi

    Hello TomF,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that after running some updates your system is getting BSOD errors associated with the Windows file wdf01000.sys. Now I cannot claim to be able to get you a copy of that file. I am not sure just replacing it would resolve your issue anyways. I can do this for you I can tell you that first the HP Compaq 8200 Elite Convertible Minitower PC is a commercial product. You can do this at you may get more assistance by posting this on the commercial forums at  Business PCs - Compaq, Elite, Pro.
Additionally, I would suggest you start your computer in Safe Mode and using an elevated command prompt run the command "SFC /SCANNOW". You can do this by right-clicking on the Command Prompt link and choosing Run as adminstator. Also, you can use chkdsk to run another repair on your files to see if they can be repaired.
The SFC /SCANNOW command will run the System File Checker to see if it can repair any corrupted system files where the chkdsk will do the same, but for ALL the files on your computer.
I am also providing you with resources on both below:
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
Run Check Disk from a Command Line to Check for and fix Disk Errors
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Problem accessing informix ODBC 32 bit System DSN using Microsoft Query external data sources in Microsoft Excel 2010

    Hi all...
I'm hoping if anybody could help me. I'm using Microsoft Excel 2010 + Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I've installed the informix client sdk for odbc drivers to create odbc 32 bit connection. Before this, i had successfully installed in
another Windows 7 Professional 64 bit PC the informix client drivers and configured the odbc connection for it. During that time, i can access the 32 bit ODBC using the microsoft query from the Microsoft Excel 2007. But now...in the new PC, even though i had
successfully installed the informix client and manage to configure the 32 bit ODBC for it, my Microsoft Excel 2010 can't call/recognise the 32 bit ODBC connection as if the Microsoft Excel 2010  only called the 64 bit ODBC. Is it in Microsoft excel 2007
it is possible to recognise the 32 bit ODBC but the Microsoft Excel 2010 can't? Is there any solution if my Microsoft Excel 2010 still want to use the 32 bit ODBC connection.

    Hi,
Excel 2007 has only 32-bit since 64-bit applications for Office are available only for Office 2010. Thus, you can use
32 bit ODBC between Microsoft Excel 2007 & Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Now, you are using Microsoft Excel 2010 64 bit & Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, thus, you must install the 64 bit ODBC drive. If you still need to use 32
bit odbc drive, please use 32 bit Excel 2010. Here is the detailed steps:
