Using MIDI to sync an MPC 2000 w/ Logic Pro?

Does anyone know if or how this works? What specifically do I have to do in Logic to get it to trigger the MPC to play? Many thanks!!

Quick key 'Y' to open the sync settings window and enable midi clock out of the midi port the mpc is hooked to.
Also check the midi delay feature is the way you want it.
On the mpc hit shift 9 for the sync settimgs and enable 'mid clock' Check if you are plugged into midi input 1 or 2 of the mpc and set which input you are using on that same page.

how do i use parallel compression for 4 drum tracks in Logic pro 7.2.3 Please. my version is 7.2.3 and my son did his drums on 4 tracks. 2 OH's 1 Kick and 1 Snare. Were confused because we cant figure out how to do parallel compression on the older logic version 7.2.3?

I can't remember when the Aux tracks became the new buss tracks, so I'll spell this out using busses.
The way I do it, is I assign all my drum tracks to a buss, say buss 1.
Then, on buss 2, I assign it's INPUT to buss 1.
So buss 1 (all the drums) are feeding into buss 2 simultaneously.
Put a compressor on buss 2, turn the fader down all the way, then as the track is playing, bring buss 2's fader up slowly, until you hear the effect you're after.
You could also do this using sends on the 4 drum tracks, set to feed the buss with the compressor on it.
I hope I haven't forgotten anything particular to that version of Logic. See if this helps...

Sync Rebirth 2.0 with Logic Pro 7

I'm running Logic Pro 7 on a Powerbook G4 with OS 10.3.9. I just downloaded the now free Rebirth 2.0, which only runs in OS 9. Is there any way to slave Rebirth to Logic? Any way to sync midi and audio between OS 9 and OSX?

Syncing Avid (Omfi) files in Logic Pro

I'm mixing the music for a film and the post co. use avid and can only send omfi files. Does Logic 7.2 support omfi video files? I've only ever used QT's from Final Cut.
Also, any engineers out there use Logic Pro as opposed to Pro Tools for music to video? If so, do you output your video via firefire to an external device? If so, what do you use to convert the firewire into video? And do you have any sync problems?

hello gary and welcome to the forum.
OMF is a bit touch and go with logic, but you are talking about video. avid will export QT no problem at all, OMFI with video embedded will make no sense to logic at all. tell your guys simply to export the project as a QT, or, as is more common to make an offline VHS or DVD. you would then catpure the project at your end. make sure they remember to include BITC.
this side of the pond, logic is the dominant player for writing to picture and it works just fine. the only sync issues you would have would be the same as if you were to run PT as they both use QT to playback video.
i use an external dv video capture device to both capture and playback over firewire. its ok, though i prefered my old DC30 card with 5squared drivers.... but i digress. the point of the dv capture box is that it allows you to output the video and audio to TV which is what i do. i have 2 screeens for logic and a 3rd screen for the video.

Midi settings way out of whack in Logic Pro

I have some very odd looking "region: midi thru" settings when I open Logic Pro X or create a new track. Even if I have chagned the settings, when I launch the program and open a project, I get things like Q-Swing: +3029%, Transpose: 110%, Delay: +1953458288 ticks, Q-Strength: +12242% and so on. I will go through and even these out, usually seeting everything to 0. But when I open it up the next time, they are the same.
I'm running a brand new iMac (not even a week old as of Sept 5, 2013) OS X 10.8.4.
I'm using an m-audio midi controller with Logic Pro X (worked fine with 9, and I don't know if it is the issue or not).
I've never had this probelm before. Anyone else experience this and have a solution? I'm doing nothing differently than in Logic Pro 9, which didn't have this issue as far as L can recall.
If you need more info, let me know. I am not an expert at Logic Pro, but I have been dabbling with midi for over 20 years (not a real pro at it either). This is a bit of a new one for me.

You're the first person that's reported this problem where it wasn't related to a project or template created in Logic 9.
You might try deleteny the LX preference files, the'yre rebuilt the nect time Logic starts.
Delete both the .plist and .cs file and see if that helps.
Delete the Logic 10 preferences file AND the shared control surfaces file.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
-Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this.
If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.

Using a Behringer FCB 1010 foot controller with Logic Pro

I am trying to develop an interactive live processing set-up using Logic Pro and, for the time being, a Behringer FCB 1010 foot controller. So far I having zero success. Can someone offer a suggestion as to how to program this controller to do even the simplest function, like controlling the volume of a channel strip with one of the Berhringer's continuous controller pedals?

Thank you both for your input. I am back on the case again, this time with a fully functioning FCB1010. Right ou of the box the pedal does successfully send volume and pan with expression pedal a and b respectively.
What I would next like to accomplish is to have exp. ped. b now control a plug-in parameter instead, the pedal range on the fuzz-wah plug-in of Logic Pro 7 for expample.
When I use Automation Quick Access to edit the assignment of ped. b as Bryan suggested, Logic appears to be receiving the info from ped. b and creating the new assignment (as indicated in the Controller Assignments window), and yet the actual functionality doesn't change, that is, ped. b continues to control pan.
Any suggestions?

Trouble Syncing Roland TR-606 with Logic Pro

Hello.
I had this working before and I dont know what went wrong.
The setup is like this Logic sending MIDI Clock > Midisport Interface > Kenton Pro Solo (set to send Sync24 out of the 'Through' port > Roland 606's MIDI sync input.
When I start and stop from Logic the 606 starts and stops accordingly. Also, when I change the tempo from within Logic the tempo on the 606 also changes HOWEVER the speed that the 606 is running at is always faster than the metronome in logic - It doesn't sync. Is this a problem with the 606?
What am I doing wrong. Would be very grateful for any advice.

More info: From the Logic 'MIDI Sync preferences' I have set it to send MIDI Clock and from the 'MIDI Sync project settings' I am sending it to the correct port on my interface. The MIDI clock is received by the Roland however fails to sync with it properly..

Midi keyboard key A2 not working with Logic Pro 8

I was using an m-audio keyrig 49 for a good 3 months, when all of a sudden the A2 key stopped working properly. The transport bar in logic shows that midi data is being received when I press A2, however there is no velocity value. The key only makes a sound when I'm going from another key to it, and even when that happens there is a sustain effect on the note, which aren't on any other keys.
I have tested this on midi keyboards from m-audio, novation, and edirol... keyboards that require drivers and keyboards that don't require drivers.
Any ideas?

Try redefining the key commands. Sometimes they can be a little flaky when importing earlier key commands. Redefining them might "unstick" them...

MIDI Timeout - Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - Logic Pro 9.1.7

This issue is driving me INSANE.
Everything was working great a couple of weeks ago. I'm fairly certain but not 100% this worked after my upgrade to 10.8.1
I am seeing the dreaded MIDI Timeout that seems to have NO ANSWER for some. Others claim clear out your logic/gb temp files and reboot and all is well, or verify/repair your files/permissions... DOESN'T WORK.
I've created 2 different user accounts no dice.
I get the MIDI Timeout / The bad driver? windows
In Logic / Garage Band.
MIDI Setup takes forever to do anything and when clicking anything other then the first main window that loads it just hangs.
I've tried nearly EVERY fix i've seen on these boards.
Downgrading to Pro Kit 7.0
Upgrading to Pro Kit 7.2.2
Going from 10.8.1 - 10.8.0
Reinstalling Logic 9.0.0 - 9.1.3 - 9.1.7
While doing all of this It seems anything that accesses anything with MIDI just crashes and needs to be forced closed.
At some point during my upgrades, downgrades it seems that it was more responsive while crashing (meaning it crashed faster and or gave me error messages without as long of a wait.)
At this point Logic LOADS, Past the checking MIDI (which it would always crash on) and will load a project. However the SECOND I try ANYTHING it gives me the MIDI error and refuses to work.
Before that I was getting something with the MIDI as well.
I am getting a Sequencer engine timed out after 800 milliseconds in the console.
IS There Anything I can do that might actually fix this aside from a TOTAL clean install and do over?
I'm at my wits end here. I don't want to waste another 3 days loosing time reinstalling.

I updated to 10.7.5 last week and have been experiencing problems with MIDI ever since. In particular, my laptop will sometimes not find my interface (a MOTU Express XT). Unplugging the USB cable and plugging it in again will sometimes make it work again. But I've also found that a perfectly working system will stop working if I leave everything alone for a few hours and come back to it later.
Very worried about this but I've no idea what's going on

Hey people the title says it all really. Anyone using that particular combination? More specifically the newer Core 2 Duo range.
If so, how is it handling Logic and perhaps your 3rd party plug-ins? I used to have a Dual 1.8 gig G5 (see spec below) and that was pretty powerfull but unfortunately one of the processors died so I had to sell it on. Now I'm thinking of getting an iMac due its size and price.

this has been asked and answered a lot - but i'll bite:
I've got a imac c2d 2.16 2gb ram and it flies. haven't got close to making it sweat yet.
been running upto 8 audio tracks with between 3-7 plugins a track, 2-3 + space designers, stylus rmx with 4/5 instances and fx and maybe 3-4 soft synths - e.g. 2+ absynths and a couple of logic plugins plus an ultrabeat.
dmitedly i am comparing it to my old powerbook - but really it flies and i'm occasionally aso running imovie in the background and surfing the web if the whim takes me.
I'd recommend at least 2 gb ram - but although i bought mine in feb with the full knowledge that a new imac might be introduced soon, i'd have to say wait....check out macrumors buying guide as it's long overdue for an imac new model.

Sync questions, MPC 2000xl to LP8

I've synced my MPC 2000xl to Logic Pro via MTC - problem is, when I press play on LP8, my MPC sequence (8 bar sequence) starts at bar 4, instead of bar 1. It's recognizing bar 4 as the first bar....is it just as easy as starting my MPC sequences songs at bar 4 (or 5), just to compensate. I've tried it with LP8 sending MMC at the same time...same result. Is there something i'm not doing within LP8?

Once I get the sync down pat....how do I transfer MIDI events from my MPC2000 xl to LP8?

I think the problem is inherent to MTC synchronization. In contrast to MIDI clock there is an initial delay for technical reasons which means that the slave sequencer doesn't start playing exactly on the first beat but a little later. I've noticed the same effect when running for example Ableton's Live as MTC slave. So unfortunately, the only solution seems to be inserting a blank bar at the beginning.

MPC 1000 - Alesis FW Multimix 8 - Logic Pro 8

Solution
1. Start Logic in 64bit mode - see here for more info
2. Open the crashing file
3. The file will crash but this time you'll see a message on the pop dialog saying "32 Bit audio unitbridge quit unexpectedly while using the Massive plugin"
4. Confirm the plugin name cousing problems in the error/crash report - look for this line; Plugin identifier:Massive.MusicDevice.componet - in this case, the Native Instrument Massive caoused the problem and had to bounce a short audio loop, I am lucky couse the AU wan on looping melodies. Try to reload the application in 32bit mode or use alternative.

Syncing Yamaha DM 2000

Hi there
I am having an issue with Logic Pro 7.1.1 and syncing of a Yamaha DM 2000.
Every time I fire up Logic, I get the following message:
setup>MIDI/HOST> and set
•Remote 1 to "Pro Tools"
•DAW ports to USB ports 2-4
I have already done this on the desk, and Pro Tools is already talking to the DM 2000 desk. Reading Apple's documentation about setting up the DM 2000 with Logic Pro, it contradicts the above message:
select DAW, then select
USB and 1-3
However, this should not really be an issue as there is only one DAW selection available, and the ports 2-4 are not being used by anything else [there are eight ports in total per MIDI connection - all the MIDI is running through the USB interface].
I have tested this with the other USB interfaces available on the Mac, and still I get the same original message. Only one icon shows up in the setup window in Logic, as opposed to the three that should be there [for the three ports - Tx and Rx], according to the Apple manual.
Anyone got any clues?
If I figure it out, I'll post back an answer.

Basically, i like to record videos of me singing and playing guitar or keyboard, but to get a good sound for the keyboard I'd like to be able to record the audio using MIDI sounds...
Ive got Logic, I've got M-Audio Fast Track Pro, into which i have my mic, guitar, and keyboard midi plaugged into. I can use it to record the mic and guitar on photobooth as they are audio inputs, however i can't use the midi sounds on the keyboard :/ I have tried having logic open with the desired MIDI sound selected whilst recording but it doesnt work...
Is there ANY way this is possible?

ReWiring Logic Pro & Pro Tools using two computers

I run PT (HD3) on my G4 Dual and have been told that ReWire is working a lot better than it used to.
I'd like to run LOGIC PRO on my intel MacBook Pro and ReWire it in Pro Tools on my G4.
I'm pretty much in the dark as to starting this process, what I'll need (midi, ethernet cable, etc.).
Any suggestions, on-line sorce books or experience from users would be most welcomed.

You don't need (and cannot) use Rewire to accomplish this task. You need to make one the master and one the slave. Send midi (from the master to the slave) to sync. This has nothing to do with Rewire. Search the LP manual for 'synchronization' and 'mtc'.
