Using ML2005 as a backup rollover connection? Is this even possible???????

Hi,
I am trying to set my ML2005 fives in this configuration
Side A
Port 1 connected to a laptop
Port 7 has a RF attached to it
Port 8 has a CAT5e Cable.
Side B is the same.
I would like to run both at the same time, trunked, and I want it so that if I cut the Cat5 or the RF, traffic will still pass through the other connection.
When I connect both at the same time, I get massive errors because of the loop.
Any config ideas?

You need to enable STP (spanning tree protocol) on both devices so that it will not cause a loop and the other link with act as a back.

I recently bought a new iMac as well as a wireless time capsule and have it connected how can I use this external drive as the location to store all my files for iTunes, or is this even possible?

New iMac user here, I recently bought a new iMac and Time capsule and have the whole network up and running now. I have connected another external HD to the time capsule as well and have a total of 3 TB of storage connected wireless to my new iMac. My question is can I use this location as the default location for iTunes? I doubt I am gonna run out of room considering the iMac has 1 TB of storage already, but I'd prefer to keep my movies and music off the Mac to keep it running smoothly. If this is possibly, I'd like to do this with iPhoto as well.

I would advise against placing your iTunes library on a Time Capsule.
The Time Capsule is designed as a backup device and not for wireless streaming of video.
Before you do anything more, can I suggest you put into place a reliable, redundant backup strategy.
Unless you are prepared to risk loss of your iTunes library due to a hard drive failure, I would not put iTunes on the Time Capsule.
Leave your iTunes library on your iMac until such time as your internal drive is full. Backup to Time Capsule using Time Machine and create a clone of your internal iMac HD to your external drive.
That's my 2 cents worth. Others may have a different opinion.

Playbook is unable to connect to wi-fi? had no problem connecting till this evening....is there a fix for this?

my playbook 3252 has been connecting to the wi-fi via a router with no problem until today,,,,,now it won't connect (last time connected was at 4am this morning) at all, even manually...says unable to acquire IP address. Have checked and rechecked security settings and all are correct. my laptop is able to connect thru this wi-fi connection, my friend can connect as well, but my playbook is not. Any info to correct this problem is appreciated or if anyone else is having same problem.....my playbook is only days old, woud hate to have to return because of this problem. thanx

While I am NOT tech pro, I just refuse to sit by and not seek the answers to my problems. I scanned some of the other postings under various subject titles and found nothing of use to me....so now very tired after this long day of trying to get answers, I decided to reboot my playbook and have another look at the Wi-Fi under set-up and then under settings.........I have found the problem and corrected it myself! I went into the wi-fi under settings, checked to ensure wi-fi on...it was, then I clicked on the drop down menu (beside Select a network) and tabbed saved networks....there I looked over my saved connections and then tapped the connection I've been trying to connect to and reviewed all the info required for connection...
the profile name-ok,
SSID- ok,
Enable IPv6-left blank,
Use HTTP Proxy-left blank,
Allow inter-access point handover- uncheck'd this (yep this is what fixed it)
save and connect....YES!! we have connection to Wi-Fi via my router again!
I will do the same for my other connection as well.....

Which format for external hard drive to use with time machine backup and connect to windows laptop?

Hi! I have an external hard drive on which I have transferred my iTunes library (just mine - not others). I have also a folder containing just films (some but not all of which are in iTunes too) Everything has been working just fine until yesterday I noticed that Time Machine was not including the external hard drive in back up as it wasn't formatted. So I have moved everything back to the Mac hard drive and and ready to format the external hard drive - but understand that if I do the contents cannot be opened from a windows laptop ... is that right? Is there are format I could choose that would allow Time Machine to back up and allow Windows to open as well (the idea being that I take the external hard drive with me on holidays etc!!) Many thanks for any advice.

ok - I understand. I have managed so far to format the drive (on windows) to exFAT file system - which apparently works with both Windows and Mac - but you're correct - it will not be included in time machine backup as I have checked the back up files and Samsung is not showing. Reckon I'm onto having to buy yet another portable hard drive just for windows - or of course buy myself a new mac book!! Can I ask you please - does the drive have to be clear of everything before I change the format - or can I change it with the files still in there? Also, got any quick ways duplicating the files onto another External Hard drive (for use on the windows laptop) At the moment the files are taking 2/3 hours + to copy over! Thank you!

Want to use an iPAD with my Pismo, is this even possible

Ok, here come the chuckles...
I have a Pismo set to dual boot in either 9.2.2 or 10.4.1with the aid of firewire which houses OSX basically because I'm still using Photoshop 5.5 which runs faster in 9 than using 9 classic from OSX. I want to do Fingerpainting on a mobile device like an iPOD or iPAD and I am told my processor (400) won't support 10.5. Apple sales just said what did I expect, I was using a 10 year old computer.
Can I upgrade the processor on the Pismo to accomplish this or has my Pismo had it's day. I love it and it has been dual booting and doing just fine now for 2 years.
I do have one more problem... none of my IOMEGA devices, my JAZ and my ZIP will not run from my old system 9 since I made the change over to dual boot and I have a lot of paintings stored on them that I would like to transfer to CDs. I know too many questions in one post but maybe someone, somewhere is as broke as I am and needs to hang on and upgrade the impossible like I do. I'd like to address these issues to those of you who can't just go out and buy a new computer and all new software. My finances are so bad right now, I'm having a hard time paying attention, so please bear with me. Any thoughts?

The max OS on the Pismo is Tiger 10.4.x Even if the Pismo could run Leopard 10.5, it would be slow. Snow Leopard 10.6 requires an Intel processor.

Using MS Word to edit email messages! Is this even possible?

I know this may sound a little weird, but I am a newer user of Macs and Mail. I was curious if there is a way to use my version of Word for Macs to edit my email messages. I liked using this feature with Outlook, but I have not figured out how to accomplish this with Mail.
I want more than just Mail underlining my word if I mispelled it. I want it to auto correct or something. I would like Mail to also automatically capitalize the first word in a sentence if I fail to or miss it. I don't even know how to get bullet points to appear within email messages. I miss this feature with Mail, can someone help?

Sure, just open up a new document from within MS Word and when you are ready, copy and paste the text into the body of an email message and send it. This takes about two seconds to do: Command-A to select all the text, then Command-C to copy, then Command-V to paste.
As far as I know, there is no option to set up a different editor in Apple's Mail.app program; however, that option might be available in Entourage which comes with Microsoft Office 2004 for the Mac.

Can I use the same TimeMachine backup (ext.drive) on my desktop and laptop (but one running Lion, the other Mtn.Lion)?

You can use the Time Machine backup files of the iMac onto your MacBook without any problem because your MacBook has got a newer version than the one the iMac has got. However, you shouldn't do it in your iMac, and if you do that, you might damage OS X because your Time Machine apps will replace Lion apps.

Can't install - my disk is used for Time Machine backups

I only have one hard disk. And it has Time Machine turned on. Mountain Lion won't let me install on this disk, saying
"This disk is used for Time Machine backups"
I'm ASSUMING this means that I cannot install ML on a Time Machine disk.
Is this right?
So, do I turn off Time Machine to get ML to install?

I deleted Backups.backupdb.
Now, the ML installer says simply "OS X cannot be installed on <my drive>"

I recently purchased a Seagate Goflex Desk 2TB and I've already used Time Machine to backup my iMac running 10.5.8 to the drive. Is there a way to backup my Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 to the drive using Time Machine while the drive is still connected to my iMac? Any help is appreciated!

Choose Connect to Server from the Finder's Go menu, provide the first computer's IP address, log in, and set it up in the Time Machine pane of System Preferences.

However, the new "tower" shaped version of the AirPort Extreme does now officially support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the device.

I am trying to install Mavericks on my McbookAir, but it won't install, saying that my hd is used for time machine backups. I have an external HD connected to my mbAir that I'm using for time machine.

2012 Macbk air, with OSX 10.8.5. See my question above. Mavericks won't install on my Air's HD, says that both the HD - AND - the external HD (which has a different name from the laptop HD) are used for time machine backups. I've deleted my time machine plists, restarted, repaired permissions, turned time machine off, repeatedly selected the external drive in time machine preferences. HELP. (Install went perfectly on my desktop Mac, which also has an external HD for time machine).

I need to add that the only place I have the "Backups.backupdb" folder is on my backup external disk, and it's not on my HD :-( . If it were, I'd delete it!

Ikeep getting this error when I attach the new phone. again and again
