Using mobileme password protected galleries on iWeb

I have a bunch of galleries on my mobileme gallery; most of them are visible only by specific users. I would like to use them on a iWeb (password protected) web site but the option Insert-> MobileMe Gallery is only available for public galleries not for password protected ones. Is there any workaround for this?

You could try embedding a Gallery in your iWeb page — see this old thread:
...or you could hyperlink from an iWeb page to a Gallery.

  • Iweb and using mobileme password protected photo gallery

I am trying to create a website. How can I access a password protected photo gallery by using MobileMe gallery widget in iweb. I need this capability. The unprotected galleries display using the MobileMe widget. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the discussions. Try this...
    • Temporarily unprotect the Gallery
    • The Gallery should now appear in the list of available Galleries — add it
    • Protect the Gallery

  • I have a password protected site in iweb, but how do I get my users to "sign out" so there not always logged in

I built a password protected site in iweb and its published through mobileme. How do I get users to "sign out" so there not always logged in

I wouldn't bother really - it would be best to concentrate your efforts now on finding another web host that you can move your site to because after the end of June this year, publishing to MobileMe won't be an option.
Have a look at GoDaddy, HostExcellence etc. and you can still password protect your website, but you just do this through your host/server rather than MMe.
Start looking now before it's too late!

  • Password protect non .mac iweb site?

I publish to a non .mac server (ie, I do not use .mac). I would like to password protect a subsite within my existing iweb site (the main site is public and the subsite is for members only) I know that the password protect feature in iweb is meant for .mac accounts but is there a way for me to work around that and password protect my subsite?

You would have to check with your host. For example, GoDaddy handles it this way:

I'm looking for a way to save all my passwords to one place and then going to that place and pulling out the password I need. I have so many passwords, I just can't remember them. I thought that having the keychain would allow someone to sign in as me and then get the password.
Does this make sense to you?
Sorry, it isn't entirely clear to me, lets see if I understand correctly…
The 'anyone can see my passwords when my account is logged in' issue is resolved by having a different password on the keychain compared to the user account, but it can make life frustrating to enter the password time after time, but security does conflict with convenience.
Open up Keychain Access & take a look at an existing item in your login keychain - it should still ask for the keychain password to view the password for that item. By default that is the user account password.
You can add extra passwords (and secure notes) to keychain if you have some that are not currently saved in the keychain. If any passwords are 'super secret' add them into another keychain & only unlock that when you need to do so, it will stop the OS using these automatically.

  • Is There a way I can make a free password protected website with iWeb?

    Hi!
I've been thinking to myself, "I want to make a free website". But I want it passcode protected and free. I am a mac kind of person so is there a way I can make a free passcode protected website with iWeb? I knwo you use to be able to do it with MobileMe, but that's outdated now so could someone please help!

No, you cannot password protect a website with iWeb.
And no, you don't have to be a Mac kind of person either.
So how do they do it?

  • Password protection of my iWeb site

I would like to password protect my iWeb site hosted on MobileMe - a single password for the site is fine so I think it is doable. However, I have had problems when publishing directly from iWeb so I use Cyberduck which seems to work well. Can I apply a password to my site when publishing thru Cyberduck? To be clear, I publish to a local directory and then drag and drop to MobileMe via Cyberduck. Can anyone offer advice to help with this?
    Thanks
    Duncan

You need to publish direct from iWeb for password protection and a few other features to work.
Also, its not necessary to use Cyberduck to upload from a local folder. All you need to do is upload by drag and drop to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites.

  • Can i password protect pages in iweb?

id like to be able to do it with a username and password that i can issue to select people..

Not in iWeb. You have to do it at the server side.
Depending on where you host, you can password protect a site (a folder or directory) or a page.
See your control panel where you host your site.
Or you can do it yourself with a .htaccess file :
    http://www.google.com/search?q=password+protect+website+htaccess
    Here's a basic login :
    http://home.wyodor.net/protect
    username/password are : root/root
Or if your server supports it, you can do it my way :

  • What type of encryption is firefox using for password protection and how trustworthy is it

I would like to know what kind of encryption FF uses and how I know I can trust it? This is not a bone of contention with FF, I love the product, rather it is just a concern I have that will convince me to let FF manage my financial passwords. Thanks for any assistance with understanding this issue more completely.

The degree of protection very much depends on how strong your master password is.
When using a master password, the data is encrypted using [http://www.tropsoft.com/strongenc/des3.html Triple DES Encryption in CBC mode]. This level of encryption is good for general purpose use. The weak point it the master password, if you have a weak master password there are programs available that will be able to crack the master password, they often do this by using a brute force method. If you use a strong master password, the brute force method will need a very long time to crack passwords. For details on password strength and creating strong passwords see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Password_strength and http://luxsci.com/blog/security-simplified-the-basesuffix-method-for-memorable-strong-passwords.html

  • Password protected script in iWeb??

    Hello there,
we are very new to this web site publishing so bear with us. Have successfully published a site (not a .mac) previously, then upgraded to 08 iLife. Now, the second site (not a .mac) will upload but we cannot view it as it is asking for a password. After speaking with the sites people, they say it is a problem in the body of the files in iWeb. Does something need to be switched off? We have tried everything to get this working.

If anyone has any ideas it would be very much appreciated. Thank you kindly,
    plasticfree

Yes, everything done right. No password there. We are saving to a folder and ftp to a host. Then this password deal. Very strange.... now we are going to re-do that website files into another format, just to see if there is some glitch with the design???? We have tried everything. Next step is to do a new website on the old PC. LOL
    Thank you for your input,

  • Limit to Password Protected Galleries

It appears there is a 50 password limit in iPhoto 8. I reached this limit yesterday and can now only upload further galleries without passwords.
Just wondered if there is any workaround to this. Could I upgrade to a "Family Pack" for instance and have multiple galleries?
    Hope you can help
    DD

I don't know the answer to your question but have you considered having passwords assigned to groups of people instead of a separate password for each gallery? If the people you want viewing them can be grouped that way it might simplify managing the galleries.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Password protection compatibility and using from our website

I have a spreadsheet that was created in Excel 2013 with each sheet password protected, and there are two problems with opening it in Excel 2003, on a computer that has the Microsoft compatibility add-on fileformatconverters.exe that allows it to open files
    created with later versions.
    1) When I open the spreadsheet in Excel 2003, I can unprotect it without entering the password. Is there a way to require the password in 2003, same as when someone opens it in Excel 2013?
    2) I posted a link to the spreadsheet on our website. If I try to open it from the website with Excel 2003, it thinks it is a zip file. I can save it to my desktop by changing the file extension to xlsx, but is there a way to make it so that outside
users can simply click on the file and it recognizes the file type?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with these two issues.

It's actually very easy to password protect a non-iWeb site on MobileMe.
    But you need iWeb first.
Go to MobileMe and make a copy if your current index.html file.
    Start iWeb.
    Create a Site.
Select password protect in the setup and publish to MobileMe
Visit your site and make sure it displays the login window.
Do not login otherwise you cannot verify it in the next steps.
Go to MobileMe again and open the folder with the Sitename.
    Delete everything you see.
Publish your RW pages to that folder.
Delete the index.html file in the root and rename your copy index.html again.
    Now visit your protected Site.
    Enter the details.
    Your RW site will show.
    Go back to iWeb.
Change the publish settings to folder. No need to select one.
You can now safely deelte the Site if you want.
Or keep the site and make a note on the page to remember the password in the future.
    Practice.

  • Hosting iWeb developed pages on another server - password protection ????

    Hi All,
I've uploaded a website that I developed using iWeb '08 on another hosting service other than .mac. I need to develop a 'members only' section that will have password protection on it. iWeb's password protection feature only works on websites and the website has to be hosted in .mac. Does anybody have any recommendations on how to do this on a non-mac hosting server?

Its great to see what everyone is doing with iWeb.
I would appreciate feedback from my attempt, thanks so much.

  • Cannot use password protection in documents

    Hi
I cannot use the password protection I have for Acrobat documents.  Worked fine before today, but now when I go to apply a password protection, I get this error message:
    Support Information:  CPasswordLockbox-152
Not only can I not secure using a password I already have create, I cannot create any new ones!
Nor can I alter the ones I have.
I have downloaded the newest reader today.
    I am using Acrobat 7.
Someone please help because I cannot send out our product without it being protected.

That could be the problem (no promises).
Having both on the same Windows system is non-supported nor recommended. It can cause any number of problems and is unpredictable.
Remove one, reinstall or repair the other and see if that clears things up.

  • Password Protected Pages?

Can I create password protected pages within iWeb? Or, do I need to use a more advance web editor? I've created password protected web pages before using templates provided by my webhost and was just wondering if this is supported in iWeb.

No, iWeb does not support this. You can password protect your whole site, but only if you publish to MobileMe.
You are best doing this via your server and perhaps not using iWeb.
