Using more than one computer on network

I received the J6480 for Christmas and have installed it wirelessly for my desktop...everything seems to work fine so far.  What steps would I need to follow in order to use the J6480 with my 2 laptops?  The desktop is Vista, the two laptops are XP.
I'm not too familiar with the concept of networking and I know that there is a way for me to network the laptops with the desktop but is there a way to directly network the laptops to the printer?  My apologies in advance if I am not using correct terminology or sound like a plain idiot.
This question was solved.

Just run the CD installation on the other computers.  The SW will detect that the printer is on the network and just install the drivers for you.
A couple of tips:
Pay attention to any warnings during installation about SW firewalls running on your laptops.  In general, the firewalls need to be configured to allows operation of the printer driver.
Consider setting a DHCP reservation for the J6480 on your wireless-router.  This ensures that your printer will always get the same IP address from the wireless-router, which prevents some issues with some printer features.  Just look for the DHCP Reservation configuration in your wireless-router.

I use more than one computer to access my four business email accounts. When one computer is on (and mail is open) emails do not get through to the other computers. This is fine, but how do I make one of the other computers the dominant one?

I assume these are POP accounts and all computers are set to remove from Server after downloading.
So on the non dominant ones... Mail Preferences>Accounts, highlight an account, Advanced tab, uncheck remove from Server, just have the main dominant one remove from server.
    Or get/setup IMAP accounts.

  • Using more than one computer...

I've been trying to wrap my head around syncing using more than one computer and want to see if I have it right.
Obviously the easiest arrangement is to have one computer and one iphone (and if you want, one mobileme acct) and keep them in sync in all departments.
Most people have more complicated lives.
When there is more than one computer involved the basic idea is that all media and apps can only come from one computer. That is the computer/itunes program associated with the iphone.
When it comes to a second computer, one can still sync contacts, calendars, (notes? bookmarks?) but no media/apps.
That is to say, you can't download a podcast or song on the second computer and get it onto your iphone without erasing your iphone media library.
Is that the basic idea? A distinction between media/software and data?
One grey area: Can voice memos be moved from an iphone onto a second computer without losing media?
    Thanks,
    D.

If you sync to a computer without media, it will wipe all media off the phone. It's easier to stick to one computer. If you want to sync other things, calendars etc it's better to do it via WiFi or Data.

  • Can't use more than one computer

It appears to be impossible to use more than one computer with the shuffle.
Connecting to another computer results in choosing between erasing the library and linking to the second computer's library or not mounting the iPod.
I did not expect this behavior and it is very deceptive.
Tech support seems unable to figure it out. If it can't do it then the techs should say so and the literature should so indicate it
Very unlike what I expect from Apple

Apple cannot aid in the ability to load entire music
libraries from different computers onto one pod as it
would be prone to copyright infringement abuse. That
is why what you are requesting to be done is not
    automatic through iTunes.
I understand that. My daughter downloaded purchased music using her sister's computer and the gift card from her sister whom she was visiting on their shared birthdays .
I agree that tech support should just told you
directly what you wanted to know but you are equally
at fault for assuming this ability ever existed
without doing 5 minutes of research.
A simple google of the terms would have yielded the
    answer you wanted.
When she got home she wanted some help putting some more music on her shuffle (a gift from us) from a cd of a friend's local band to use during her last chemo treatment the next day. Her Mac is running 8.6 so she asked me to do it for her.
I dragged the files and dropped them on the ipod icon for her thinking that would be the simple Apple way.
Couldn't play them, though I could see them. Couldn't see the purchased music (when double clicking the icon) but could hear the music. That started the search.
I do appreciate the copyright issue but Apple tech should have known the answer right away, not after the fourth tech contact. No where does it state simply that one cannot do this and I don't agree that I am at fault to assume that I could.

  • Syncing iphone using more than one computer

Does anyone know how to get iphone to sync to more than one computer? I activated my wife's iphone from my computer (after having logged into her itunes account) but when I try to sync from her computer (logged into her account) nothing happens.

You can, but you can only sync one type of information with each computer. Here are the instructions I followed to sync my two computers. Hope they help.
How to Sync with Two Computers
You can sync your iPhone with only ONE media library. However, it is possible to sync the media library with one computer (like your home computer), and the contacts/calendar information with another computer (like your work computer). I have this working on two PCs with Windows XP. I have read posts of folks doing it with two Macs, and with one Mac and one PC.
This is not sanctioned by Apple, so I dont know if these steps are "correct". I only know that these are the steps I followed and worked for me. Your mileage may vary.
    1. Select "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones" under Edit / Preferences / iPhone in the iTunes menu.
    2. Uncheck "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" in the Summary tab of iTunes.
    3. Check "Only sync checked items" in the same tab.
    4. On the computer you want to sync contacts and calendar, check the corresponding boxes in the Info tab. UNCHECK everything else in the MUSIC, PHOTOS, PODCASTS and VIDEO tabs.
    5. Sync your iPhone with this computer FIRST.
    6. On your other computer, follow the same steps above (1, 2 and 3). Then, UNCHECK everything in the INFO tab, and check everything else on the other tabs.
    7. When you sync with this second computer, you may get a message that the iPhone has already been synced with another computer, and that the media library will be deleted. Fine. There should be NO media library on the iPhone since you unchecked all the media items on the first computer, right?
    8. Sync. Then you can sync on both computers and each will sync what is checked and not overwrite the rest.

  • Using more than one computer, why? so hard

I seen the posts or some of them, about trying to use ipod on more than one machines. Win XP.
I use my ipod primary with my home computer, but work weekends and was hoping listen to my music whilst in the office. Plus easy backup of my library, Im lazy.
I was surprised to find it not a simple task. I was hoping just to install itunes on my work machine, plug in my ipod and have my songs copied to this work library, noop.
The methods I seen so far involve copying music second time to ipod (HD) or to CD and then moving onto second computer. Forget these methods, watching grass grow is more fun.
Question is why so difficult?, the music on my ipod is all purchased on itunes legimately or from CD's I purchased. Why is it so messy to have my library where ever I want it.
Surely Apple has enough clout now to dictate how it should work to the Record Company$$$. Getting music online is more convenient, but quality and the fact the song you brought more like a DVD rental then something one owns.
I am all for music protection, that why I buy music via itunes, cause I want it to work. But seriously it wrong making it so difficult, that can't have hotswap library from one computer to next.
Anyway accept the unacceptable, PS if I am wrong and it is possible let me know, thanks

I checked the link provide the solutions are the ones I mentioned, they really not viable.
Why is it connect my ipod to my work computer can't simply transfer songs to this library.
The solutions provide involve copying to CD, etc.., when the songs are on the ipod already?
    Questions still remains unanswered.
Why is it necessary to transfer songs via different method when the songs are on the ipod, and the ipod is connected to the second computer.

  • Can you use more than one computer to edit the same Premiere Elements Project?

I am using Premiere Elements 10.  I have built a new project on my desktop computer because the desktop has a firewire port to capture video from my camcorder and my laptop doesn't have a firewire port.  The project is stored on my home network.  I seem to be able to do editing fine using the desktop computer that the project was created on, but it won't load up right on the laptop for editing.  Premiere Elements is configured the same on both computers.  I guess my question is - does Premiere Elements store something on on the computer that the project was created on that is not being stored on the network drive?    How can I fix the problem so that I can edit on my laptop? The laptop is a top of the line Dell XPS with an i7 processor that I use for other Premiere projects, so the laptops ability is not an issue.
    Thanks
    Bill

Yes, having files stored on a HDD, but having the letter change between machines is a problem. The Project file (PREL) is only an XML database, with links to the Assets. Those links are Absolute Paths, so if anything changes, from drive letter, to file name, the link is broken.
I have over a dozen externals, that I use to migrate Projects between my main two computers. Each has had its drive letter set in OS of each computer. I started with Z:\ and worked down. Each drive has a lable on it with the designated drive letter. Unfortunately, I ran out of letters, as the workstation has a ton of HDD's and burners, so I had to start over. That does mean that I cannot have both Z:\ drives plugged in at the same time, but that has never been an issue. I wish that Windows would allow for double drive letters, say ZZ:\, but still, I have a handful of letters to use - just too many externals for those letters...
    Happy editing,

  • Can i use more than one computer for my photoshop editing

i am a subscriber to Photoshop CC. I have signed up with my laptop, however can I use this program on my other computer as well?

You can install on up to 2 machines at any one time. Even if you have a Mac and Windows, that's the great advantage of CC!

  • Publishing more than one site and using more than one computer

I did my sons website in iWeb on my laptop using my own .mac account to publish it. Now I've up graded to a family account, giving my son his own settings etc. I've done my own website now, but when I publish to either mine or his .mac account it seems to go through the process of publishing both sites.
I've also set my son up as a separate user account on my laptop. Can I move his iweb settings so that he can do his website in iweb without seeing mine. I've noticed there's no import function, but surely I could move a folder to a location in his library that will load into iweb. This would be useful because I'd also like to update my own site from the laptop at home and my imac in the office.

    Hi Smartmart,
    I'd like you to have a look at[this page|http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebTransferSite.html]
The only thing that changes is you put it to another user account on the same computer and not to another computer but the procedure is the same. When you move it by using a USB stick or CD or whatever you will then have the domain file on both the accounts. They are now completely independent from each other. So when you make a change to one site it will be saved only to that Domain file and not to the other.
The two websites (yours and your son's website) are now in one Domain file. What you then have to do is, once you have it on both user accounts, delete your website in your son's account and his in yours. The rest will be preserved.

    Cédric
Actually it's quite the same you already posted... I was a bit too slow

  • Can Final Cut Pro 7 be installed on more than one computer?

I am looking to purchase a Final Cut product, maybe Final Cut Pro 7, and wondering how many computers I can install the software on.  I'm doing some basic video editing stuff for a sketch comedy team and we use more than one computer at times for editing.
    Thanks

You can install on (1) Tower and (1) Laptop, as long as they are both used by you, and NOT at the same time.  This is for when you edit on your tower, but then need to edit at home, or on the road.  You cannot use one copy of FCP on multiple machines at the same time.  You need one copy for each machine you intend to use at the same time.

  • ITunes on more than one computer?

My boyfriend and I just got ipods. I had been using my home computer which unfortunately stopped working the other day (unrelated)
Anyways, I tried to use my ipod on my boyfriend's computer to charge and I thought I could load some of his songs to my ipod.
It ended up deleting all of the songs that were on mine and replaced them with his library. Is there any way that I can use more than one computer? Can I add songs from his library without losing the ones I have?
    Thanks.
    iPod Mini   Windows XP

You will have to have the Touch set to manually manage to do this.

  • FINAL CUT WON'T ON ON MORE THAN ONE COMPUTER ON A NETWORK

I have a Mac Pro, a MacBook Pro, and a Powermac G5 all connected via airport. I am using all three computers to do video editing using Final Cut Studio, but if I try to open Final Cut on more than one computer at a time, I get an error message syaing that there is already an application running on this network with the same serial number. If I disconnect the computer already running Final Cut from the network, then the other computer will open it, but I need them all connected because I am sharing different photo/music/media files between all three computers. I Paid for Final Cut Studio, and I don't see why I can't use it on more than one computer at a time. Is there a way around this without disconnecting them from the network?

I Paid for Final Cut Studio, and I don't see why I can't use it on more than one computer at a time.
Actually you licensed Final Cut Studio and agreed to the license agreement when you installed those programs.
    As it states:
"2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
    A. Apple Software
This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on one Apple-labeled desktop computer and one Apple-labeled laptop
computer so long as both computers are owned and used by you."

  • Can I use more than one iPod with one computer?

    Howdy,
I have a (hopefully) quick question. Can I use two iPods with one user account on one computer? Can iTunes keep two different iPods separate with different syncing rules for the same user account and iTunes library? I'm interested in the answer for both Mac and Windows machines.
    Thanks!

  • Can I use more than one blue-tooth device at the same time on IPhone 4S? Like a wireless headsets and speed and cadence sensor for cycling computer, receive the data and listen music simultaneously

Can I use more than one blue-tooth device at the same time on IPhone 4S? Like a wireless headsets and speed and cadence sensor for cycling computer, receive the data and listen music simultaneously

As long as the profiles are different (ex. HID vs AD2P) you will not have any issues. But say if you try to use 2 keyboards at once, it won't work. Or 2 headsets at once. Your scenario seems fine.
