Using more than one Ipod

hi guys
I have been motoring along very content with my 20mg i pod now my wife and daughter want a piece of the action. Problem solved? well yes!
I have bought my daughter New 30 mg video and my wife Shuffle 512mb. trouble is can i set all three to the same computer? I'm using as the main i tune library my G4 sphere and i have just purchased the new G5 20ins.
any suggestions?
thanks

The problem is that the shuffle has less space. It depends on how big your itune library is. If the library is larger than the capacity of your ipod, Itune will randomly select songs for the shuffle or you can put it in manual mode (not automatic) to transfer songs.

  • Using More Than One iPod On One Computer

    Hi everyone,
I am sure my question will be an easy one to answer for the right person - who will no doubt have more experience than Apple's helpline which I just tried.
I have a 60gb iPod with Colour display, which syncs with my iTunes (version 7.0) (currently at about 45gb) on a Windows XP machine. I have seen the new range of iPods and am very keen on getting one of the new Shuffles. My question is: can I use both iPods with the same iTunes, same music library, and on the same computer.
Any responses would be very gratefully received. If anyone happens to know what the student discount (as in how many %) is on the Apple Store then I'd also like to know.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Edd

Yes, you can use more than one iPod on the same computer.
If you don't want the same music on both, this article discusses two methods of setting it up:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
My wife and I use Method Two in that article, and include the Recently Added smart playlist so that if either of us adds a song, it will be on both iPods for a few weeks.
The one thing to keep in mind is you will want to avoid having them both connected simultaneously. This article has more information:

  • Can I use more than one iPod with one computer?

    Howdy,
I have a (hopefully) quick question. Can I use two iPods with one user account on one computer? Can iTunes keep two different iPods separate with different syncing rules for the same user account and iTunes library? I'm interested in the answer for both Mac and Windows machines.
    Thanks!

  • How to use more than one ipod from one computer

I've got my 30gb ipod set up and working fine from my pc. I've got my wife an ipod nano and want to set her's up totally separately. How can I do this?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single Mac or Windows user account
    c) Creating multiple Mac or Windows user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): iPod - Syncing Music
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here: Create A New User Account In Vista

  • Use more than one ipod on a computer

I have an ipod shuffle and my little bro wants one as well, the question I have will our computer let us both use it for our ipods or will it just recognise mine any advice will be appreciated thanks

    Ashleigh,
With iTunes open, plug in your brother's Shuffle. It should appear in the Source List just like yours did. Give it a name (different than yours), and register it just like you did with your Shuffle. I suggest using the same USB port that works with your Shuffle, and NOT trying to connect both Shuffles at the same time.

  • Using more than one ipod on one computer and itunes

I have a iPod mini but share a computer with my sister who just got the lastest nano. Can I add her ipod to my computer while my mini is already on there? Can we share the itunes and import the same songs to our ipods? How does it work? I use Windows XP but don't want to go through the hassel of have to Itunes running off one computer.
Thanks so much for any help!!!!!!

Don't know what an iPod mini is. To answer your question about sharing computer. You can use the same library if you want. THere are many ways to do that just make sure to not have them both plugged in at the same time.
Te easiest way to share would be to use one user account. Both iPOds would get the same libary and music.
The next way is to have two different user accounts. Have the music in a shared folder and you can both use the dame music files but can have different playlist and ratings.

  • Using more than one ipod on a computer!

Hi, can anyone tell me how to use 3 different ipods on one computer, each having different playlists? I have to keep deleting and re-installing to update! Its driving me mad!If i plug in my ipod and my daughters songs are in the library, it wipes all mine off and replaces it with all hers! Help! Now my son has one too!!

Well, its incredibly easy really. Read this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
If you have Win XP, just make several user accounts with Admin priveleges and each user can have their own iTunes and iPod on each account. That is how my husband and I manage ours. We each have two iPods (i know, we're addicts) and we each have our own account where we manage our two iPods on each iTunes. Its really easy.

  • Can you use more than one ipod with just one itunes?

Just wondering if it's ok to use 2 ipods from the same itunes?
Me and the wife have been sharing an ipod, but we've got one each now, so can we both just use the same itunes?

You bet---just be sure that each iPod has a unique name. typically they have Your Name's iPod, but you can have any name you like, just type it in when you connect it.
If you want to have different music on each iPod, then make a playlist of your own music and then open the Music tab when you connect your iPod and select the "synchronize playlist" (or something like that) instead of synchronizing the entire library. You'll see what I mean when you open the tab, it's pretty self-explanatory.
I have four iPods of various generations that I keep synched on the same computer.

  • HT1473 can i use more than one ipod on my itunes account?  How do I get the music from one itune account into another on one computer?

My husband and I would like to combine our itunes libraries into one for each of our ipods.  Can this be done?

You can just copy all of your music to an external sourcce ( cd/dvd/flash drive/hard drive) then copy onto the other computer.
You can type "merge itunes library" into the google search bar.

  • Issue Using More Than One iPod on a Single Computer

I, along with my wife and two daughters, have successfully been sharing a library between our four iPods. For Christmas, we bought one of our daughters a new iPod. However, when we connected it to our computer it thought it was MY iPod, and proceeded to download my playlists, etc. It has been a couple of years since adding a new iPod, so I probably did something wrong during the connection process. I attached MY iPod, and it recognized it as mine. I have not reattached hers again.
=> HOW DO I UNDO THIS, AND REASSIGN THIS NEW iPod TO MY DAUGHTER AND NOT ME?

Try changing the drive letter assigned to the iPod in Windows: Windows confuses iPod with network drive (Symptom - wrong iPod name displays in the iTunes source list)

  • Newbie question about using more than one Ipod on same computer

    Hi everyone,
I finally got into the Apple world this year with a new (16 GB) iPhone. Love it. I've now ordered a Nano as well. My question is: though I know that my iTunes will recognize the Nano as a different iPod, will I be able to transfer the music I purchased from iTunes store with my iPhone and iTunes to the Nano? If so, how?
    Thanks

will I be able to transfer the music I purchased from iTunes store with my iPhone and iTunes to the Nano?
Music currently in iTunes can be transferred to the iPod nano the same way it was transferred to the iPhone. Content on the iPhone needs to be transferred to iTunes first.

  • Can I have more than one ipod with more than  music library on one computer

I was just wondering if i could have 2 different ipods (one a 5th generation and the other ipod touch) with 2 different music libraries on the same computer and itunes? because right now im using my parents computer and my fiance is using my laptop and we're moving so we'll only have one computer in the next few weeks. So if anyone could try to give me an answer or have a solution that would be fantastic lol!

See these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.
    Multiple iPod installations.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer.
If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.
