Using Motion titles as 'supers' in Final Cut?

Is there a way I can create Motion titles on a transparent background that will allow me to bring them in and super them over a sequence in Final Cut?
Ben

Sorry - you probably wanted some pointers there...
If I'm doing that, I'll often send the video clip into Motion, but turn it off before saving it, then just layer the .motn project file over the video in FCP...

  • Can I use motion 5 and Compressor with Final Cut Pro 7?

    Hi, Guys and Girls:
After reading a lot about the new Final Cut X I decided not to buy it. I´m not gonna say anything about it, pretty much everything has been said so there´s no point in being redundant about it.
    So my question is this:
Can I use the new version of Motion and Compressor with the old Final Cut Pro 7?
I heard the new version of Motion is nice, not so sure about the new Compressor but any improvement would be nice.
    Thanks in advance.
    Daniel Sametz.

    Anyone?
Can I use the new version of Motion and Compressor with the old Final Cut Pro 7?

i think you confused us with the question 4 times!?
you can use Motion aas a stand alone app, which can output quicktimes to any codec you want, which can then be used in any app that accepts these codecs. But you wont be able to (AFAIK) import a motion project into iMovie and use it as a clip like you can in fcpx

  • Title Font Size in Final Cut Pro 6 for exhibition on movie theater sized screen

When editing a documentary and creating title cards (that play as part of the movie - text center of screen on black b.g.), lower thirds identifying speakers, and end credits (both single card and scrolling) are there some standard fonts and font sizes people use so the end result will not look too large when projected on a movie screen?
The titles are all from Final Cut Pro (a few from the Boris plug-in for FCP6) and there are no titles that move or that are created in Motion.
I will be able to make additional edits with the fonts sized for tv, streaming, DVD distribution etc. if I'm lucky enough to end up needing those as well.
    Thanks!

If the titling is properly composed for the frame size, it will look correct when projected. That is, if it looks font is legible and in decent proportion in your 1080 timeline, it's not important whether the display is 30 inches or 45 feet; the proportion will not change.
In terms of font selection, medium or bold sans-serif fonts work well on all screens.  "Plain" fonts like Helvetica, Ariel, or Lucinda tend to work better than the more stylized fonts, but if style is part oif your message, be my guest...
    hope this helps

  • HSV filter in Motion makes clip disappear in Final Cut Pro

I'm running Motion 1.0.1 and Final Cut Pro HD 4.5. Whenever I add the HSV filter to a video clip in Motion, import the Motion file to Final Cut and play it in the timeline, it appears that the clip is missing.
Although I get no error messages from Final Cut saying that the clip is missing, it does not show up during playback. Every other layer from Motion plays as normal while the layer with the HSV filter applied to it looks as though it is gone. I should add that the video plays normally within Motion.
I could just export the video as a Quicktime movie, but I don't want to compress it.
    Anyone had a similar issue?

That's a ridiculous answer. If there is a program designed to do something it will do it. If it's not operating properly there is a reason for it.

  • Can I use IMovie HD 6.4 with Final Cut Express?

Can I use IMovie HD 6.4 with Final Cut Express?

    Hi
    Yes and no.
You can't get an editable material over from one to the other.
eg a misspelled word in iMovie project can't be corrected in FCE/P any version.
I use iMovie combined with FCE/P in just one case when there are to many drop outs
on the raw material eg recorded in LP-mode (90min on a 60min tape)
Then iMovie can import in a more forgiving way.
    BUT
When this material is moved over to FCE/P the audio parts needs to be rendered
not just one time but whenever any change is done. A very nearv-wrecking and tedious
    procedure.
Summary. Joint project should use same platform. In my cases me and friend has
each one full version of FCE4 and an external hard disk that contain the movie
    project.
This we exchange with each other to do each the parts that we are on best to do.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Motion 5 corrupt files for Final Cut Titles,Generators...etc

        Hi there,
I am having troubles with motion 5 working with Final Cut Pro X. I am trying to make a title on Motion and 5 and save it go in to Final Cut Pro X, the preview is shown but when I try to scrub over it I seem to be getting a picture on the canvas that is red with a warning sign and cut out title logo. How can I solve this? I got Final Cut Pro from a friend who got it from the app store but gave it to me through a hard drive. but I got Motion  5 my self from the app store.
    Thanks Dan

I'm having the same issue.  I just installed Motion 5 and have Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.5.  I've run software update and can't find any newer version available.  None of the generator templates I'm creating are showing up.  I've even tried just sticking nothing but plain text in one, and not doing anything but resaving the copy of another that originated in FCP in another just to make sure it wasn't some novice setting error (it still could be that).

  • How do I preset a title text style in Final Cut Pro X?

I want to use the same title stye again and again in Final Cut Pro X - font size, style, color.
Final Cut Pro is happy to have me "Save a Preset to Library", but then I never see it again.   When I go to the dropdown menu, all I get is Apple's list of truly hideous fonts like 80s, Aqua Fade, Candy, etc.
I save my favorite style as "Basic" and that does nothing either - as soon as I add a new title and apply the "Basic" setting I get Apple's horrible Gil Sans again.  What's going on?
Any tips on how to perform what should be a very simple operation?  Have spent more than an hour on this now.

Well, Tom, I guess I'm just not as fortunate.  Anyone else have any suggestions?

  • Where can I download Christmas generators / title cards compatible with Final Cut Pro X?

I'm looking for title cards with holiday themes, snow, Christams trees, ornaments and the like. Where can I find these? A quick search online I found site that said they weren't compatible with Final Cut Pro X.
I went to rippletraining.com and after downloading got this error message...and yet I am unable to find any applications in the App store that meet my needs.

Okay, this seems out of my league! …
    you haven't tried!
you managed to handle FCPX, a highly professional edit-tool.
What I suggested, is just 'basics':
    compose a few elements.
Get inspired by other videos you notice around.
    To animate 'elements', use keyframes.
To apply 'overlays', green-screen/color-key is a basic procedure…
To prep stills, a designated pic-processor is of fundamental need… although, even MacOS built-in Preview.app allows creation of 'knock-outs'/transparency… in case, you're shy to invest a few $$ for Pixelmator.
It looks maybe complicated - it isn't!
Don't try it first time for some serious projcect… but creating your very own Xmas-scenery is a lot of fun… plus, you learn a lot about FCPX and its many hidden gems…
    Final word:
Catch some nice, own pics with your cam! … snowy trees, 4 candles and some cookies, a frozen window, illuminations in the streets, that crazy neighbour with his 50.000Watts of garden decorations .... Just add a charming title - done. Simplicity rules!  …
    Merry Chistmas!

  • Bring Motion project with sound into Final Cut

Is it possible to bring a .motn file into Final Cut, and also bring the sound with it? Whenever I try this, only the motion image files are brought in.

This thread was great had some very useful tips.....on the same sort of note is there a way to bring the audio from final cut into motion when you open the .motn file from final cut...... I am wondering this for sync purposes, so when i change the audio in final cut i dont have to render out an .aiff to sync to in motion.

  • Motion clip darkening video in Final Cut Pro

    Hi all
I'm having trouble adding some motion graphics over the top of some video using Motion and Final Cut. When I drag the Motion clips, which contain little more than some animated text on a transparent canvas, into Final Cut, the video is darkened for the duration of the Motion clip. The appearance is like adding a black layer over the video at about 10% transparency, but obviously no such layer exists in the graphics. Any ideas?
FYI, the settings for these clips/videos are the same as ones I did recently, and no such darkening occurred. I'm stumped...

Are you rendering into RGB or YUV?

  • Does Motion 5 work well with Final Cut Express?

I have Final Cut Express, and I want to use Motion 5 with FCE. Do I have to buy Final Cut Pro X to use Motion 5?

You can buy Motion 5 without FCP X - I have exactly that.
You will not be able to send to or move around items from within FCE to Motion 5 however that is no different to Motion 5 and FCP 7!
What you can do is create your animated movie in Motion 5 and output your final movie with/without transparency as needed so you can then import that into FCE and place on your timeline over the background video as required.
Tip - decide how long you want your final animated clip in FCE and then when you create your Motion file set the duration to be the same or slightly longer.

  • What compression to use when Exporting HD video from final cut pro PAL setting

    Hi there
I'm trying to export my HD video from Final cut Pro so that I can edit it in DVD studio Pro. I initially exported it on H.264 setting however it then gives me the message 'NTSC assets cannot be imported into PAL projects' It was edited with PAL setting so I think it must be the conversion but i'm not sure which option to use.....been really struggling to get the 1 hour footage under 4.5gb without losing too much quality...
    Any advice greatly appreciated!
    thanks

    Just to add two suggestions.
    1) Consider putting your four movies on two disks.
    2) Bring your movies into Compressor and duplicate the stock DVD setting. In the Encoding pane of the Inspector, select a CBR and dial it back to around 6.2 to 6.5 Mbs. In Preview mark a small section and submit; you'll get 2 elementary streams, with m2v and AC3 extensions. Bring that into DVDSP and evaluate results. Adjust as necessary. (This is to avoid waiting out very long encodes and then having to start again from scratch if you get disappointing results.)

  • Is there a way i can use the themes from imovie in final cut

i would like to use the themes in iMovie '11 (e.g. news theme) in my video in final cut.

You can't directly. You could make part of the video like the open in FCE and export it and then import it into FCE, but the themes don't apply to FCE.
