Using MP3 files in iMovie

I would like to import and use .MPG video files from a Sony camera into iMovie but it will not acknowledge them with that file extension. What is the best way to convert these files to .MOV files? I was told to download Quicktime Pro 7, but I have Quicktime 10 already. Does it make sense to downgrade to the Quicktime Pro 7? Is it even possible with Quicktime 10 already on my computer. I am sure there are a lot of third party conversion programs but I would like to avoid downloading anything unnecessarily that may cause more trouble than good.

Hi Shannaghn - this is what Apple says:
Should you need it, a Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard-compatible version of QuickTime Player 7 is also available for use with older media or with existing AppleScript-based workflows. QuickTime Player 7 can be used to playback formats such as QTVR, interactive QuickTime Movies, and MIDI files. Also, it supports QuickTime 7 Pro registration codes for access to QuickTime Pro functionality.
To install the QuickTime Player 7 from the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD:
Insert your Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Install DVD.
Open the Optional Installs folder and double-click "Optional Installs.mpkg".
Select the QuickTime 7 option and click Continue.
QuickTime Player 7 will be installed in your Utilities folder.
Note: If you double-click any media that requires QuickTime Player 7 for playback and it is not already installed, you will be asked if you want to download it from Apple.
It should have worked for you.

  • How to use mp3 files on a form standard button, instead of wav-files. Need to save space.

I would like to use mp3 files instead of Wav-files on the standard button, in the forms edit menu. I know it is possible in the interactive menu to add buttons with mp3 sound. But those buttons has not the same options and appearance as the forms buttons. We create learning books with lots of sound files in each PDF, so with wav-files the PDF gets quite heavy in Gb.

Smokerz – Thanks for the feedback. I managed to get iTunes to find the movie files on my TC by simply dragging the icons of the files on the TC into the Movies folder in iTunes. This immediately made them available for streaming on my Apple TV. Also, I learned with great relief that, despite their large size, dragging icons of my movie files into iTunes did not copy them to the C: drive on my desktop computer. Thus, it looks as if the job is pretty much done. Thanks again for your advice.

  • Is there a way to use OGM Files in iMovie?

I've been looking everywhere, but I can't find a way to use OGM files on iMovie HD. Which is a real shame because that would open up a whole lot of things for me. I've tried synching the files to become AVI or MPEG-4 format with VLC player, but it never works out.... Can anyone help me with this one?

VisualHub ( http://www.techspansion.com/ ) says it has partial support for the Ogg Media Container: .ogm with Ogg Theora video and Ogg Vorbis audio.
VisualHub runs in a trial mode so you can see if it will work on your files to convert them into DV video for use in iMovie.
If I might ask - what creates OGM files - I've never run into them.

  • Do you have to pay royalty fees to use mp3 files in a Flash game?

I'm looking at developing a Flash game but I am aware there are licensing fees involved with using mp3 files, and we seem to only be able to use mp3 files through Actionscript and Flashpunk. So my question is, will we have to pay any royalty fees, or does Adobe have that covered?

No. The idea of iTunes Match is that everything in your library is available to sync.
If it does match, the song in iTunes store is used.
If it does not match, the song on your computer is used and that is uploaded to the cloud to sync to yoru devices.

  • Import mp3 file to imovie

i cannot import mp3 files to imovie - i tried via itunes but the files do not show up and cannot be dragged. any suggestion? thank you

I have the same problem and read your response and cannot make any sense of it.
What is the "apps area of itunes"?
How about this? For some unknown reason, Apple requires your audio clips to be in itunes first , which is ridiculous.
And when you put them in, imovie won't recognize them. That is just bad design all the way around. Mine are in mp3 and something called m3a, and neither is recognized by this terribly designed program

  • How to use MP3 file as a clip, not background music

I have a radio spot as an MP3 file, but when I drag it into the project it automatically thinks I want it as my background music. I actually want it as a clip to play after a commercial.  I have tried saving it out of QT as a movie file but it won't let me import that file in a regular import, it's grayed out. Any help would be appreciated!
    Melissa

You have to have video clip of some sort in the spot where you wan the sound clip to play. It cannot just be dropped on the timeline. So what you might have to do is put a title down with a black background, drop the MP3 right on top of that title clip  (dead center). Then it will attach as a repositionable sound clip.
You will also want to convert the MP3 to an AIFF in order to keep iMovie from working too hard to playback the song when you do the final export of your video project. This is a direct copy of the iTunes Help page for AIFF conversions:
Save a copy of a song in a new file format
You can convert a song to a different file format (and keep a copy of the original). For example, you can save a copy of a compressed song file such as MP3 or AAC in an uncompressed song format (AIFF or WAV).
When converting from a compressed to uncompressed file format (for example, from MP3 to AIFF), you shouldn’t notice any reduction in sound quality. However, when converting between compressed formats (for example, MP3 and AAC), you may notice a reduction in the sound quality. For the best results, if you want your music encoded in a different file format, import the music again from the original source using the newencoding format.
Important:  You can’t convert iTunes Store purchases unless they’re iTunes Plus songs.
    Hide
To convert a song’s file format:
Choose iTunes > Preferences, click General, and click Import Settings.
In the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the format you want to convert songs to, and click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library and choose Advanced > Create Format Version.
The song in its original format and the newly converted song appear in your library.

  • Can I use mp3 files from different domain as the feed?

    Hi..
I have just created a new podcast here:
    http://artistsofliving.com/?feed=podcast
I would like to submit the podcast to iTunes sometime soon...
However, I'm wondering if they will reject it because the feed lives on 'artistsofliving.com', whereas I keep the media mp3 files on 'livinginthepresent.com'... a different domain.
I own the mp3 content and both domains- I'm splitting the media from the website for bandwidth reasons.
Is this ok? If this causes a rejection straight out is there a way to indicate that I own the material fairly?
    Thanks!
    -rich

There's no problem about using media files from any source: the feed just has to reference them (the URLs have to be 'absolute' - i.e. including the http:// and the server name - even if the file is on the same server as the feed anyway). I don't see the fact that some files have different URLs leading to accusations of copyright breach.

  • Use MP3 file as personalized ringtone

I would like to assigne a specific MP3 file as a ringtone for a specific caller. Within Contacts, I can assign a specific ringtone to that contact, however, it only seems to be looking at a fixed (hidden) folder with some canned ACC/MIDI ringtones therein. I can use the built-in recorder to create an AMR file - which lands in the that same (hidden?) folder - and then I can use that as a ringtone for that contact. However, I'm not able to select a specific MP3 file from my music store.
I know within the music player you can assign a particular song as the ringtone for the current profile. HOwever, that's not what I want to do. I want to assigne a specific MP3 as a ringtone for a specific contact. I have done this on other Nokia devices, but am stumped how it is to be affected on the N91. Any help out there?
    Jim

If it's similar to the N70, it needs to be in the right folder, which shouldn't be hidden...
There's two folders on both the memory card, and Phone memory - MyMusic and Sounds - try putting the tracks you want as ringtones in there, then selecting them from Contacts...
If it doesn't work in the same way, sorry

  • Brasero Cannot burn cd using mp3 files [SOLVED]

Everytime i try to burn an audio CD from mp3 files brasero gives me an error saying "Not suitable for audio or video media." I have all of the gstreamer plugins installed so thats not the problem. Ive seen a few posts on forums for other distros about the same problem but no real fixes. Everytime i try to burn an audio CD from mp3
You'll have to turn .mp3 into .wav to make an audio CD. Or did you mean a data CD with .mp3 files on it? Google how to make an audio CD.
    lame --decode file.mp3 output.wav
Are there any other burning programs that can do this?
You bet. Here are the basics. Add whatever options you wish.
Make .iso of files to burn to CD
    mkisofs -R -J /path/to/files -o /path/to/output.iso
Disk with multiple folders on it.
    genisoimage -J -r -pad -graft-points dir1/=/path/files dir2/=/path/files dir3/=/path/files > filename.iso
    Burn .iso to disk
    growisofs -Z /dev/sr0=/path/name.iso
    wodim speed=8 -tao dev=/dev/sr0 /path/file.iso
    Burn DVD from files example
    growisofs -use-the-force-luke=tty -Z /dev/sr0 -J -r -speed=8 -dvd-compat -pad -graft-points /path/file.avi /path/file.avi
Write Audio CD from a folder of .wav files
    cdrecord -v dev=/dev/sr0 speed=8 -audio -pad *.wav

  • Transfer and using mp3 files

    Hello,
I'm a new user from apple products.
I don't know how I can transfer mp3 files to my iphone. Do you know?
can I use bluetooth? can I use wifi?
I have some mp3 files in my computer but I can't transfer to my iphone.
I need to use itunes? how?
    Thanks and merry chrismas

    Welcome to the forums.
You need to transfer your music using iTunes -- you plug your phone in and choose "sync" and it will transfer whatever music you tell it to. The best way is to create one or more playlists and choose these to transfer to the phone.
The phone itself can use bluetooth headsets, but you cannot transfer information this way. The phone itself will connect to the web via wi-fi but, once again, does not transfer this way.
Install the latest iTunes (7.5 or greater), attach your phone via the USB adapter provided (with or without the dock) and then sync it. Note: you will also need to first initialize it (nothing in the phone will work without first establishing phone service to whatever carrier you are using).

  • How to use WMV files in Imovie?

I have a bunch of WMV files from Windows that I would like to use in iMovie. But, it keeps telling me they have to be .avi files in order to be used in iMovie. If someone could please advise how to convert these windows files to usable iMovie files that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Use MPEG Streamclip to convert them to DV. This may require purchasing Flip4Mac.

  • Using MTS files with iMovie

I'm having a real nightmare working with .mts video files.  I'm not sure if this is the best forum to discuss, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.
I have a Canon Vixia HFR20 camera that saves in .mts format, and I'm trying to find a good way to edit/convert those videos with iMove '11 to be posted on a website and burned to DVD.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to go about this?  I have found a few free converter programs like WinX, but the results always look kind of crappy - lots of jagged edges and what not.  My other main problem is that the .mts files appear to split after they reach a size of 2.05 GB so even though I'm only shooting one continuous video, I end up with 2 or more files.  If there's a way to import the seperate files as one continuous video that would be fantastic.
I've recently tried using the "import from camera" feature in iMovie instead of copying the files from the SD card to my computer, but I could not get iMovie to see a camera other than the built in iSight.  Is there a possibility this "import from camera" might be the best solution and I just haven't got it yet?
I feel like I'm forgetting some important information because I'm kind of flustered so don't hesitate to ask.  I'd appreciate any guidance.

The format iMovie uses when you edit video after it's imported is Apple Intermediate Codec, it will have the file ending .mov but internally it's set so the Mac can edit individual frames easier and play them back easier at full speed. If you have the option of saving to QuickTime .mov see if there is a pulldown list of all the different "codecs", that's the style or flavor of compression applied to the video frames. If Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) appears on that pull-down list choose that as your codec when you save to .mov.

  • Using .avi files in iMovie

I have a point an shoot camera that records video. They're avi files. iMovie can't process these files that I know...
Any idea how to modify file extension to something that iMovie can use. If I had only 1 file I just open with Quicktime and export to .mov, but having dozens of files makes this very time consuming...
    Ideas?

    Import them into iPhoto.
Then in iMovie, you will see an iPhoto category in the Event Library. You can access it there.
