Using MSG command for a workgroup Windows 7?

Hi there, is it possible to use such command in a home workgroup? I've got a couple of Windows 7 laptops and I'm really interested in sending messages to the other computer. I know that NET SEND commad is not longer available.
For instance, something like that:
msg * /v "hi there"
But it does'nt work, I mean, destination doesn't receive anything
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Enric

You may want to repost in the Boot Camp forum, that's where the Windows guys hang out. Also because it's going to be a Windows app Google something like Fan Control software for Windows 7.

  • Problem: Using "msg" command with "System Exec.vi"

I'm attempting to write some LabView code that takes advantage of the "System Exec.vi". At the moment, I've tried using it to ping machines, return the ipconfig and run through the example code that NI provides.
I would like to use the "msg" command used on Windows operating systems to send out a message to multiple machines on our network at once. Warning them we're about to update a program and they should log-off, things like that.
I tried using the "msg" command in LabView keeps returning errors. I also wrote a quick batch file as follows:
    @echo on
    cd c:\Windows\System32\
    msg.exe /server:localhost * test
When I launch the batch from windows, it executes. When I launch it from LabView (using the System Exec.vi) it fails.
    Potential Quirks:
I discovered in a different location that in order for a machine to receive these messages they need to have a registry entry in:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server" and have a DWord called "AllowRemoteRPC" = 1.
Note that "/server:localhost" could be "/server:anycomputer" and the " * " is used as a wildcard which sends a message to anyone who is logged onto that machine. Also note that "test" is the message to be sent.
Any ideas why I'm having a problem?
tl;dr: "System Exec.vi" won't run the "msg" command. Why is this?

    Go to Solution.

-> What versions of labview and windows are you on?
    LabView 2010 and Windows 7.
-> Have you ever sent any commands out, or is msg the only one you've tried so far?
I've successfully used the 'ping' command and also returned a standard 'help' command to LabView.
-> Finally, in tools>>options, you may need to change your access settings under VIserver and Webserver.
My VI server settings are allowing everything except "Show VI Scripting Functions, properties and methods"
I have nothing configured for a web server, since I didn't plan on using it for this. Unless it has some sort of connection that I am missing.
I'm attempting a work-around where LabView will generate a batch file to run from the desktop instead, since it seems that something is getting lost in translation between LabView and the command-prompt.

  • Need example vi using AT commands for dialing the modem at the remote end

Can any one give example vi for dialing up a modem and sending data to remote end

    Hi sindhu6,
Presuming that you are connected to your modem via a serial connection:
I did find a forum related to your enquiry: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/AT-commands-in-labview/td-p/1213335
And I did find an example from ni.com: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/2577
Basically, what you need to do is to find out what are the AT commands used for your modem and send the command over using VISA related functions (e.g. VISA Read VI). You can send the command in a sequantial method. You can do this by using the method found in the first link. The best would be that you can create a state machine where by each case/state will consists of commands that you need to run in a sequence (let's say a sequence of AT commands for sending a message via TCP/IP communication).
You can also use a sequence structure but I would not suggest that since you cannot stop the sequence half way and if your command is very long, this may look pretty messy for your code.
    The main question is:
What is the version of your LabVIEW?
What is the modem that you are using and how is your hardware setup is going to be (e.g. how did you communicate with your modem)?
    Thank you
    Warmest regards,

  • Using iPhoto Libraries for Wallpaper with Windows XP running in VMWare

I have Windows XP running in a VMWare Fusion virtual setup - ie no bootcamp.
I'm guessing this isn't possible, but here goes....
I have all my desktop wallpaper in iPhoto, all my data is on the Mac HDD I'd like to use the libraries for Windows as well, is there any sort of app I could get on Windows side that would let it look inside the iPhoto Libraries and select a picture. Instead of having to keep a second copy of all the pictures for the Windows side to use ????

Will there ever be some sort of plug in or application that will allow a Windows user to access photos stored in an iPhoto library.
    I wouldn't expect so.
Apple tend only to port apps to Windows or facilitate Windows apps when it helps to sell Apple Hardware. So, Safari is ported to Windows because it helps sell iPhones, iTunes because of iPods. Hard to see Apple selling hardware to someone buying Windows Home Server.

  • System asking me to fill MANDATORY fields, even I used EXIT-COMMAND for F3

    HI Experts,
issue- there is mandatory field in the screen, so, am using the folllowing code, system asking me to fillup the mandatory field.
then, i used exit-command, but, still its asking me to fill the mandatory fiels???????????
    code is,

    ***Exit command

    module cancel.
    module user_command_9001.
    module cancel input.

    clear ok_code.
    set screen 0.
    leave screen.
    endcase.

I am not sure but try making a specific module for your exit handling, for instance:
    module do_exit at exit-command.
    module cancel
    module user_command_9001.
    Hope it helps you,

  • Can you stop the 'Sign in to use this computer for automatic downloads' window appearing at iTunes launch?

Whenever I start iTunes, two windows appear, one after the other, asking me to sign in to use the computer for automatic downloads. Even if I cancel both windows and don't sign in, automatic downloads are still enabled, as they are if I sign in on one or two of the popups. So, to the point, is there any way of disabling these windows at the start-up of iTunes? - they're useless and slow me down xD.
    Incase you need it, I'm running a Lenovo G570 laptop on Windows 7 64-bit @ 3.10Ghz with 6GB RAM.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm seeing the same issue as well with the most current update of iTunes (10.5.3).
What makes this even more of an issue is whenever I have to do this, iTunes Match starts syncing, but never completes, so the only way for me to see my iCloud synced music is to turn off iTunes Match, turn it back on, re-log in again, then it finally shows up about 30 seconds or so later.  With each quit and re-launch of iTunes, I have to go through this whole process again to get my synced music to show.

  • [Guide] Useful terminal commands for troubleshooting/system status.

Hi everyone.  I'm looking for a concise list of useful commands to run incase something should happen to be going wrong somewhere (and also a 1-line for what they do)...the kind of output you'd post in a bug report.  Some other good commands would help make "whats going on under the hood" more clear.
Also, if you have some useful directories (like /var/log), I'll take them too.
Current List (Thanks to all the posts below):
iwconfig, ifconfig | currently running wireless and overall link/state status.
dmesg | down/n/dirty low level system activity log
    htop (non-built-in) | Process monitor
iftop, nethogs (non-built-in) | Bandwidth usage monitor
    lsmod | Currently loaded modules
pstree | Currently running processes in a tree-text format
df -h | Hard drive space usage
    ps -A -ao rss,comm | sort -rn | sed -n '1,5{s/^/\t/;s/ /\t/p}' | Top 5 ram hogs and how much
    xsel -o -p |  Clipboard monitoring (non-built-in)
    xsel -o -b |
    /var/log - looking for a log from a system process...probably here.
~/.XXXX - User installed programs house their config files here... ~/ = Your username's home directory.  Equivalent to Application Data on Windows.

ltrace -- strace-like, but shows library calls, not only system ones.
vmstat -- shows many essential system parameters at a glance, first tool to start investigating bottlenecks
lsof -- "list open files"; as network sockets, pipes, ... are all "files", there are many interesting informations to gather. But I use it for two purposes mainly: to identify file descriptors in strace/ltrace output and for finding deleted, but still open files eating disk space.
I like atop also, for its ability to show aggregated data, grouped by user or process name.

  • Ho do I use one monitor for OSX and Windows 8.1 bootcamp

I am a long time Mac user, but find the fairly recent Apple switch to thunderbolt for monitor input very frustrating.
For several years I have ran a Mid 2010 IMac 27" and input video from a Mac Mini running Boot Camp Windows 7 using Target Display Mode on the IMac.
This worked fine until I upgraded to a Late 2013 27" IMac and discovered that the  IMac has moved to thunderbolt as the input for Target Display Mode.  The new late 2013 27" IMac just will not display native Windows 7 or 8 from a Boot Camp Mac anymore.
My problem is that I have two business/job related Windows apps that must run on a native windows 7 or 8 platform, and won't function under either Parallels or VMWare Fusion.
    I have tried.
And there appears to be no way to get any Windows machine with DVI or Mini Display Port output to drive a late 2013 IMac in Target Display mode.
So, with great frustration, I have concluded that I need to purchase a non-Apple 27-30" monitor, and drive it with either a Mac Mini, or my Early 2013 15" MacBook Pro retina, running one of the Macs into on of the mini-Display Ports on the monitor and a native Windows 7 or 8 machine into a second mini-display port, switching between the two video inputs.   The Dell 30" monitor seems to get the nod.
Has anyone found a better solution to switching between OSX and native Windows on one monitor?
    Thanks...

    Hi William,
I had the same experience in December 2013 and contacted Apple about it. According to Apple it's an issue of Windows with Thunderbolt. Your older iMac from 2010 is using DisplayPort and not Thunderbolt for the Target Display Mode. Note that just the connector looks the same but it's still a different technology. Please further note that the response below does not apply for the new iMac 27" with the 5K display because this iMac does not support Target Display Mode at all, hence can't be used as external display. Of course you can still attach one or two external displays to the iMac 27" 5K.
Hope this clears things up for you and the others.
    Thanks,
    Martin
So, here is the important part of the official response from Apple:
"... The Thunderbolt controller in an iMac is running exclusively in host mode. As such it cannot emulate a device mode Thunderbolt display. Instead it implements a custom Target Display Mode protocol that shares video between two peer to peer machines running with both controllers running in host mode. The "client" side of the driver does not exist on Windows so windows cannot speak to the "server" half in the iMac. There are no plans to implement a client driver for Windows since there is no Thunderbolt SW stack available for Windows. The reason this used to work is that the older iMacs used DisplayPort for Target Display Mode. In this scenario the iMac was able to expose the panel in such a way that it looked exactly like a Display Port Device which Windows does have driver support for. ... "

  • Can I set up a Mac Pro as a server using OSX Server for my current Windows-based office?

I have a small business, and our office currently has a Windows-based network.  I love my Mac and it's ease of use, and for now I have to use Remote Desktop to log on to my server, and then run my MRP/ERP business software from that.  Is there an Apple solution (Mac Pro?) for my server, where other users could run parallels to access the MRP/ERP software?  Thanks!

It is possible - even quite easy - to turn almost any current or recent model of Mac into a server by installing OS X Server. It is less clear, however, that this will do what you want.
What are the hardware and software requirements of your MRP/ERP software? If it will only run under Windows or any OS other than Mac OS X, then it will not work, and installing OS X Server will not change that.
You may be able to get the MRP/ERP software to run under Windows run on a Mac using Parallels or VMWare Fusion, but it would still be running under the Windows OS, just virtualized so that it runs inside the Mac OS. Thus it will not be any easier to use than your current system, and in fact may be harder, and might not work at all.
You could also run Windows under BootCamp, but again, while the Windows OS would be running natively, you lose any ease of use of the Mac OS.
    Best of luck.

  • Access Denied Error while using Cancel Command for an Administrator.

    Hi All,
We have created a new capability called Task Administrator which has only one permission <Permission type='TaskInstance' rights='View'/>.
Now when a user who is assigned ONLY this capability clicks a cancel button in the end user interface (<Property name='command' value='Cancel' />), an error is thrown (Error: List access denied to Subject on type WorkItem. com.waveset.ui.util.html.Container: method setSubTitle(LJava/lang.Object;)V not found.
We understand that the system is trying to delete the workitem created (I can see the workitem from the debug menu) which he/she does not have access. Interestingly, a normal end user without any capabilities is able to cancel this request.
Could someone please tell me what the default access is for an end user which is taken away when a new capability is added to that user?
    We are using V5 Sp4.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Based on the current information, I suggest that you try the following steps:
    1. Run REGEDIT command to open the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{09beb4fe-6125-4757-af0f-7f487d1aa125}.
    2. Expand this node to see if there is a folder named “InprocServer32”, if there is, move to step 3.
    3. Click the “InprocServer32” folder, and double-click the “(Default)” key to check its value. It should be the path of a DLL file.
    4. Grant “Full control” to the users on this DLL file or its parent folder.
If it doesn’t work, I suggest that you configure the Advanced Security Settings of the SQL Server installation folder, and check the “Replace child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object” option.
