Using multiple iphones 1 computer

hello
i have done a search but cannot find an answer to my question.
i have an iphone 3g (which is slowly dying) and i am going to upgrade to an iphone 4 or 4s as the carrier in my area has a promotion but i still want to use my old iphone as an ipod and utilize a few additional apps on that device while using the new phone as my primary device.  is it possible to have both devices synced and freely connecting them without having to constantly wipe out one or the other on one computer?
TIA

You can sync as many iphones/ipads/ipods as you like to one comptuer.
Each is different and wil sync only what you set it to sync.

  • When i try to preview a song using my iphone and computer, it just loads quickly and there is no sound.

Ive been trying to preview songs on itunes, using my iphone and computer. Typically when previewing a song, it loads and its a blue color and it will play. Now when i try to preview, it stays black, and loads super fast and theres no sound. And I seem to be getting different prices on albums every time i click on one. Its just being really weird.
any tips or tricks?? ive tried resetting my phone and everything else. nothing is working.and i can play all the music on my phone with no problem. i just cant preview anything in itunes.

The number of devices authorized on an account and the number that an iPhone can sync to are two different things. You can now authorize up to 5 computers or 10 devices to play your content, but still an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch can only be tied to one computer at a time. You can copy content from other computers to the computer used for syncing, and get it on the iPhone that way.
Connect the phone to that computer, whichever you want to be the "master" of the iPhone. Click on its name in iTunes. On the right there is a Summary screen. Scroll down it and you will see several checkboxes. One of them is "Manually manage music and videos". If this is checked you must drag content from iTunes to the iPhone. If you have a large library, however, this can be cumbersome.
The alternative is to leave this box unchecked, and instead click on the "Music" tab when the phone is connected. You can then just check the content you want on the phone, by artist, genre, title, playlist, etc. After checking you click the "Update" or "Sync" button and everything you have checked syncs automatically.

  • Can I use multiple iPhones on the same iTunes account? e.g. my wife and I each have iPhones

Yes, you can have as many devices - iPhones, iPods, iPads - as you like using the same iTunes account.

  • Using multiple Iphones on one computer

My family has multiple Iphones and I was wondering if there is a way to have three seperate accounts on one computer? I don't want my apps or music to be synced on my son's or wife's phone. How do I do this? Help!

Create separate computer logins for each person. That way, everyone has their own itunes library/account, contacts, calendars, etc. Doing it that way also means there is no chance data will be intermingled. If you want, you can also share apps/music between accounts(permitted by the EUSLA with family members).

  • Help using multiple iphones and ipods on itunes

Okay, is there any simple way to use multiple apple products thru itunes. I can log in on my account and sync my iphone/ipod, then I log out and log back in with my daughter's account info. I plug her itouch in and it wants to read all of my apps(some apps we both have on our devices). Have problems with music sharing as well. Still a PC user. Get very frustrated with itunes. spend way too much time trying to do things that should be simple. please help! Thank you!

Are you using method 1 with different windows user accounts?

Sounds like you are currently using method 2 and not happy with it.

  • Use multiple iPhones with 1 instance of iTunes?

    Hi Guys,
Be gentle with me as this is my first post and I'm not sure if this is correct discussion board, anyhow...
I have been tasked by my bosses to do some research on the possibility of using iPhones as a business communication, email and document device to be used by the senior management of my firm.
Basically, what we need is to be able to "sync" calenders, receive email, share documentation and contacts all using one instance of iTunes. This is to enable us to keep their data uptodate and identical etc.
The users also have the option of using iTunes at home to do non business work i.e. upload music and videos.
I am aware of the apple configuration tool to create multiple but identical "profiles" that can be applied to each and every phone.
    My questions are:
    1. Can we use one iTunes account (billed to the company using one credit card?) that can used by several staff at home? Or do we need to create accounts for every user?
    2. Is there any applications that can help us "sync" all phones either connected to our business version of iTunes or even "over the air"? Bearing in mind that if the user connects to iTunes at home it doesn't wipe important data!
    3. Can anyone recommend applications that we can preload onto the phones that will assist the user becoming familiar with the functionality of the iPhone? This would help us as we wouldn't have to show each and every user how the iPhone works!
    4. Lastly any advice on applications that would give us the ability to control and maintain all these instances of iPhones easily and without giving us a major headache?
    Thank you for any advice.
    MC

You should check into MobileMe. It's an Apple service that allows you to sync mail, contacts, and calendars over the air to your iPhone.
My wife and I both have iPhones and use MobileMe to keep them identical in terms of contacts and calendars.
You could use one iTunes account with multiple iPhones, however, you're not going to get over the air syncing.

  • How do i sync multiple iphones, one computer without getting other iphone info

how do i sync multiple iphones with one computer without getting other iphone's info.
When I sync my iPhone, after I do a backup, then sync, I end up getting my kids phone numbers, wife's numbers, etc.
How do I create my own account to manage?

    Settings
    iTUnes and app store
turn off automatic downloads for apps
Then what you buy on one device only goes onto another if you want it to

  • How can I save downloaded iOS system updates when using multiple iPhones

I have multiple iPhones, and every time I want to update them, I have to wait forever for these downloads to transfer. The update downloads, but is not saved so that I can use it for another iPhone, requiring me to download the same file yet again, and again, and again, wasting my time. Any ideas or is this a lost cause?

Not sure about a Mac, but on Windows it does save the file to a location in the users profile area and if the phones are identical (eg: both 3GS) I have been able to copy the file to the location in the other users profile and have it use it to update.

  • Using multiple iPhone remotes with Apple TV

    Hi
Anyone knows how to use two iPhones 4  as remotes with one same Apple TV device ? I am using iTunes 10.5.0.142 on my computer. Home sharing is turned on and I can access my iTunes library with both iPhones. Home sharing on Apple TV is turned on. Each iPhone has the remote application with home sharing turned on. However, only one iPhone can also access control Apple TV as a remote.
The iPhone that not working as a remote is the one using using a different apple id that the iTunes account. Turning on the remote app, you can find the shared iTunes library ... but not the Apple TV device. What am I missing ?
I read a similar post from 2010 but did not help.
    Thanks

I have four iphones and two iPads using the remote app with our apple tv. When this sort of thing happens usually I turn off wifi on the one that's not responding, close Remote then turn both of the, back on. Sometimes it takes more than one try.

  • Using multiple iPhone's on one iTunes account

Hello, im not sure if this has been asked, i had a quick look but couldnt get a 100% answer.
My wife and i have 2 iPhones using one iTunes account, both have been updated to iOS5. We both can use iCloud and all the new features of iOS5.
When both iPhone's were set up i sent an iMessage to one of my contacts, they recieved the message and replied, the reply came in and was recieved on both iPhones. I know you can turn off in settings on the iPhone that i do not want to recieve the reply to but in doing so i will turn off iMessage on that iPhone.
On my iPhone i set up iCloud with my default iTunes email, and my wifes set up a new @me account. This has over come the problem of using Find My Friends App, so now she can have her own account.
Now if her contacts do not have her @me email in thier contact for her, she will not be able to utilise iMessage from iPhone to iPhone. Then comes the issue with making purchases on her iPhone as she is logged in under her @me, but purchases must be made with my email account so i can also have the purchases. Now your prob saying just log into my account when making purchases, but if she does iCloud won't work due to the app was not purchased using the same email address.
All i want to be able to do is use 2 iPhones on one iTunes account, be able to have seperate Find My Friends set up, both be able to have each others purchases, both use iMessage to each other and friends, both use seperate iCloud accounts.
If i am doing something wrong please let me know, or if you know how to do it.
My other theory is, i have added a different @me account to my iTunes account, could i set her iPhone up using this account, seeing that this one is linked to my original acount?

The Apple account used for iCloud can be different than that used by the App Store.  In other words, your wife can use her own iCloud account and use your Apple ID for the App Store and thus you can share apps. To change the App Store ID, go to Settings/Store and tap on the Apple ID. Then tap Sign out, then log back in using you Apple ID.

  • Using multiple iPhones questions

    Hello all,
I have had my iPhone 4 for over a year and am very happy with it. My father is thinking of getting one also, however I need some clarification on a number of issues.
    1. Is it possible for two iPhones to be backed up to iCloud without sharing contacts/pictures etc.?
    2. Will the 'find my friends' app work between two iPhones with the same apple ID? I do want to use the same ID as I have all music/apps stored and ready to sync between the new device.
    3. Will there be the same gamecenter account on both devices?
What would you suggest?, Could I make a different apple ID account for the new iPhone but still sync any purchases from my main apple ID?7
These multiple accounts seem very confusing. I will try and sum up what I would like to be able to do:
    - Separate contacts/photos backups to iCloud
    - Different gamecenter/findmyfriends accounts (between the two iPhones)
    - Access to purchases from my main apple ID (for both iPhones)
    Thanks in advance,
        -Ozzy

we have 2 iphones, and one apple id, and when we upgraded to ios5, and backed up to the cloud - all of our contacts merged together...i am here on the discussion boards to try to figure out how to handle this as well

  • Using multiple iphone/ipod's on one Mac/PC

I'm not sure if anyone saw this article but this, I found, much easier to do that creating a separate playlist for my classic and for my iphone3g
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
Hope this helps some people as it really did for me
    Spiro

Why do you have 3 Apple IDs?
Apple IDs cannot be merged and items bought with one Apple ID cannot be transfered to another. A computer can only be associated with one Apple ID every 90 days for automatic downloads, re-downloading of past purchases or iTunes Match. There is no getting around this restriction.
One computer can be autorized to play content purchased with multiple Apple IDs, though.
My suggestion is to pick on Apple ID and stick with it for the future. Once you have decided, log into one of the other Apple IDs and download every avialble item you bought with that ID to your computer. Wait 90 days. Log into the other ID and do the same thing. Wait 90 days. Finally log into the "main" Apple ID and stay logged in. Keep current backups of all your purchased items on a local, external HDD.

  • Setting Up Multiple iPhones On One iTunes Account

Our business supplies iPhones to our technicians out in the field and I've set each phone up under the same iTunes account.
Can someone please help me out on the below things that I need to be able to manage?
I need to be able to back up each iPhone to the work iTunes account on a regular basis, so that I can restore the data if needed. (Windows pc)Is this just a matter of plugging the phones in and setting up as a new iPhone and giving each one a individual name (tech 1, tech 2 etc)? I know it will mean that they'll loose all data and I'll have to set each one up again.
I would like it if each of the phones can share any apps purchased (music is not used but some productivity apps have and will be purchased)
I need to ensure that none of the phones share any user sensitive data (messages etc)
I had a massive issue with all the phones recently - They were duplicating iMessages accross all the technicians phones.
I've rectified this by disabling iMessages, but is there some way i can allow them to have iMessage without all the phones (which are on the same work iTunes account) duplicating messages or any other user sensitive data?
    Thanks in advance!

Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers. I have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.
