Using multiple iPods on same computer

I connected another iPod to my computer but can only access my original Music Library. Is there a way to edit the Music Library on the additional iPod?

Are you asking if you can extract what's on the iPod into your music library? Please expand on your question.

  • Multiple ipods on same computer?

Is it possible to download music onto two separate ipods using the same computer? I don't mean at the same time.
I want to get an ipod for myself, but would like to be able to download my CD's and not have to have my wife's songs/CD's on my ipod.
I'm not sure this explains what I want to do, but I'll use it as a departure point.
I appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks.

  • Using two iPods on same computer

Our daughter has loaded her iPod onto our family computer and created an account. I now have my own iPod for which i want my own library, which will include photo's. How can I use my iPod and sync to my library without syncing to my daughter's.
I also need to download the library on my iPod onto my own library. I somehow had a library but it has been wiped clean due to a restore. Is there a way of reverse backing up from my iPod to my computer.

See this Apple KnowledgeBase article; it should help:

Is there a way of reverse backing up from my iPod to my computer.
Transferring tracks from an iPod back to iTunes has been covered here a number of times already, but again:
First, you need to prevent automatic synchronzation with a blank copy of iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
Then if you're using iTunes 7, you can then copy music that you purchased from the iTunes Store back to iTunes directly (use the Transfer Purchases From iPod command under the iTunes File menu).
If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy back other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
    Hope this helps.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.

  • Help! syncing multiple ipods on same computer!

i will soon have two different ipods syncing to the same computer. how can i keep libraries separate so that my brother's music doesn't show up on my ipod and my music doesn't get synced to his?
    iPod Video 30GB   Windows XP

There are basically two methods for managing multiple iPods on one computer. See here:
Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each iPod on this computer.
Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time as the other one, though.
For more details on this matter, check out Apple's Support article about it:

    I hope that helps you.

  • Registering multiple iPods on same computer

I currently have a 4G 2nd generation iPod that is registered to our computer. My husband just received a 4th generation iPod. Can you register multiple iPods onto the same computer?
My other question is if you purchase a used iPod, how do you register that and is there anything else we should consider when looking at purchasing a used iPod?
    Thanks for any help.

Can you register multiple iPods onto the same computer?
Yes. Register each iPod as if it was the only iPod being used on that computer.
My other question is if you purchase a used iPod, how do you register that
If iTunes doesn't give you the option of registering it, click here and fill out the forms.
and is there anything else we should consider when looking at purchasing a used iPod?
Restore it when you connect it to the computer.

  • Help! Using multiple ipods on same account - for education

Hi, I'm a primary school teacher and have just purchased 5 ipods to use with Year 2 students in the classroom. Is there any way of syncing the songs and/or short movies to all 5 ipods? I don't mind paying for these things once but not 5 times each time I need a little video! Please help me...the kiddies are aching to use them!
    Thanks,
    Bree

No problem... you can sync the same data, including purchased media, to multiple iPods. The 5-computer limit applies to the number of computers you can authorise to play your tracks, not the iPods they can be played on.

  • Is there a way to use multiple ipods on one computer without them overwriting each other?

i have in total 3 ipods.
One is an the square ipod. (the one with the moving screen on the right)
the second is an ipod shuffle (the touch screen one)
and i just got an ipod touch. (the colorful one)
i still use all my ipods but on my first two i use the same itunes for it. so for example, i use one ipod to download all of my music library.
then i connect my second ipod only to download selected songs.
but now that i have an ipod touch, one of the ipods is going to be overwritten.
So is there a way for that not to happen?
having a flash drive for a seperate itunes for one ipod is to much of a hassle.
but if anyone has the answers, i would greatly appriaciate it.
    thanks! : D

Why do you think that one will be over written?
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one computer.  Each is different and will only sync what you select.

  • Using Multiple iPods on 1 Computer and Changing Track Info on Files

Hi - I recently had to get a new computer, so I have a Windows 7 machine. I use 2 iPods and and iPhone. I have set up separate user accounts in Windows 7 to separate music files, video files, and info for iPhone. I'm having some problems, first, with multiple accounts. When using an account in an other than administrator account, the administrator account keeps getting errors that iTunes can't be opened. So while in another account, I get error notices in the administrator account. Second, a number of CDs that I copy into iTunes come over as "Compilations." I can't make changes to the categories so the CDs appear with the artists, even though I've actually gone into the files through Windows Explorer to change them from read only. Any suggestions?

    Just plug them in.

  • Using multiple Ipods on one computer

I just purchased an Ipod Nano to use in addition to my older Ipod on my home Windows computer. How can I use Itunes to support both Ipods without having to repurchase all my music?

You just plug in the Nano. iTunes will recognize that it's a separate device, with it's own preferences. Music you've purchased from the iTunes Store can be synced to all your iPods.
I'm currently syncing three iPods to the same library. I use the Sync Selected Playlists option (look on the Music tab) to determine what music gets put on which iPod.
    Best of luck.

  • Using 2 iPods on same computer

I have an iPod already registered and in use on my computer. Now I need to add a nano as well. When I go to register the nano the info for the iPod shows up. Do I register the nano by typing the new information over the iPod info?

I ended up registering the nano by phone. However now that the nano is connected to the computer and on itunes, I dont get a "Mary's ipod" listed in the itunes source list. Now my nano is connected to the computer with a "do not disconnect" on it. I dont have an "eject ipod" or "safely remove hardware" choice on the computer. How do i take care of both issues?

  • Can you run multiple iPods on same computer?

I have a "regular" ipod and have successfully loaded iTunes (dated 10-12-2005) on my pc. My husband just bought a shuffle but we cannot seem to run them on the same pc. Why not? iTunes just will NOT recognize the shuffle. I have successfully loaded the shuffle on our kids' pc; but all 2,000 songs are on my pc. I DON'T want to reload all of them. ANY suggestions? Comments?
I did try to update the iTunes. Ran into other problem - iTunes wouldn't even start - had to uninstall/reinstall.
    Dell   Windows XP

I had the same problem with iTunes not recognizing my
iPod Shuffle. What I did to fix the problem was to
download the latest version of the iPod updater and
select the restore option. It should reset the
factory settings and flash the device with the latest
software. I recommend trying to get iTunes to
recognize the shuffle on its own, and then connecting
    the additional unit.
Sounds great - but every time I load updater I cannot even start iTunes. VERY frustrated.

  • Using Multiple iPods on Same iTunes Library

I'm using iTunes 5.0 with one library that I use to manually sync two iPods to. One iPod is a 40gb photo, and the other is 1st Gen. iPod (10gb)model. Not sure what is going on, but at for the longest time I was able to connect each iPod and manually sync to the library. I can now hook up my 40gb photo ipod and sync it, but when I hook up the 1st Gen. ipod, and try and drag and drop purchased music (from iTunes), it won't allow me to transfer the music. I've made sure the firmware is up to date. I'm running iTunes on my Windows pc running XP Home. Thanks for any help!

I just ran iPod updater and it's showing firmware version 1.4 (and that it's up to date). Is there a new updater with a more recent firmware version?

  • Using multiple ipods on on computer

I looked over the discussions on how to do this. It was recommended that using windows XP, one should create different user profiles thus giving different itunes applications. I was wondering if it could be done in the same user preference, in the same itunes application?
