Using multiply ATV's in corporate enviroment.

What we current have is 57 tv's accross multiply building's(and in some cases Countries) all running a powerpoint presentation (the source could be anything really to be honest) The process we currently have, is we log into to each tv which is being run from a laptop using VNC, and change the source file to the new powerpoint presentation. This is a slow process, and can take hours to update just one slide.
What I would like to use is appleTV's which I know do not natively play powerpoint, but you all may know of a way of this working.
I do not know ALOT about apple TV and you all may be able to sheed some light on the best way of achiving this using Apple Products.
I would like one Central Truth, so that we have one file that runs accross all tv's. and is easy to update, or change.
The Resolution is the same on all LCD TV's
We do run video on the tv's sometimes.
anything else you need, please let me know. Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately, I do not think you could achieve very much my changing to the Apple TV. You could work around the PowerPoint issue in a number of ways, by either exporting them as as slideshow or as a movie. However Apple TV can only work from a local network, and you would still need to all load your files to each computer in the same way as you do now.

  • How do you use the ATV with the remote when you place it out of sight?

I placed my ATV behind my tv, though it does not wake up and work with the remote control. How do you use the ATV in this type of situation? Will the Bluetooth keyboard work with it if it is behind the TV?
    Thanks.

Yes bluetooth and wifi (remote app from your iPhone) are far more likely to work for you.

  • Using multiply effect on illustrator file with 2 color job?

    Hi,
Encountering a tricky problem and not sure if its an InDesign fix or an Illustrator fix.
I am working on a 2 color job—pms color + black on a book cover. The cover needs to seperate into these 2 colors.
Also, I need to make a high res and lowres pdf that look like the cover to send out to marketing, sales etc.
    WHAT's THE PROBLEM?...
Well, I am creating a collage with black ink vector graphics on top of the pms background. I created this art in illustrator. it is saved as an .eps file. The illos were done by someone who used a white fill to knock out black areas. There is also a wide 50% grey outline around the illustration.
I like the idea of the line of the illo being black and the fill being red so that it looks seethrough on the red background. But the 50% grey outline causes a problem...I'd like the 50% outline to blend with the red color, so instead of appearing like there is white in the ink it overprints.
The only way I could think of (and quickest way) was to apply the multiply filter in illustrator to the vector illo. This seemed to work great.
I brought the illo into InDesign where I created my cover layout.
Looks great, Prints great. Separations appear to be good, although it shows the yellow, cyan, and majenta layer they appear to be blank, so I think it will seperate nicely into 2 plates–PMS + black.
BUT, when I make a pdf, using "smallest file size" or using "high quality print", the pdf it makes does not show the illustrations in the collage. They are kind of beige and dulled out. The publisher needs pdfs too.
Does this at all indicate that this job will not print correctly using this multiply filter, or is it all well and good final product wise, but its just an issue making the pdf? I am slightly nervous I am going to send this off to the printer and they will have some issue.
I am a professional designer of 10 years with lots of print experience, but I have never used multiply in illustrator so I just want to make sure there is no rule against doing this I should know about. Does multiply at all mess with the color separations or is it fine? And how do I get my pdf to come out right? I'm hoping there's some dumb thing I'm forgetting, or a simple fix.
Thanks for any insight you may have!
    L.

I did figure out after posting this that I was using one .ai file and one .eps file—the .ai was showing up fine in the pdf and the eps was showing up screwy.
odd thing though, when I just re-exported using pdf/x–1a settings, now both images appear muddy! but fine when I turn "overprint preview" on. I just don't want my publisher to have to tell everybody to turn overprint preview on...they shouldn't have to do that for editors etc, non design people.
maybe the new "smallest file size" will be fine though since this is a press preset...we'll see.

  • Can i use mirroring (atv) with iPad mini?

can i use mirroring (atv) with iPad mini?

You can use an iPhone (if your carrier supports it) as a personal hotspot for your iPad and use the phone's cellular connection to go online with your iPad - your iPad will see the phone as a wifi network.
If you are asking if you can share an internet connection from a wifi-only iPad then you can't, only cellular models potentially allow you to share its connection with other devices/computers.

  • Help oh Help - use of deployment ruleset.xml in IP corporate enviroment!

    Background.......
Our technical company with country wide deployment of IP devices (using IP addresses) that were built and supplied with java as the contact interfaces. So we MUST use java to connect to these devices. To date 1.6.30 has been doing the job for me with minimal intervention/security messages, but now we have new devices that need 1.7 upwards that brings in the new security features. Too many devices to add to the "exceptions.list" file in my opinion (in here specific devices do not allow wildcards). They are all on our 10.0.0.0/8 corporate network.
My attempts to overcome this so far........
Reading all over the net I find this is the job of the DSR "Deployment Ruleset.xml" file. All that's ok. However so far I cannot find ANY documentation on the wildcard usage in the Ruleset.xml file that will allow us to do our jobs. Java has fast become a millstone around our necks and is drowning me and other technical officers.
This is not a domain name access issue, we just need to be able to access IP ranges to these devices with a mixture of old and new java required.
I am not a programmer and a simple technical office who has PC skills (and old). I attempted to set up the ruleset.xml and the convoluted way to certify the deployment.jar file and make changes to it in future is driving me to drink!
    So please help me!
I need good information on the "ruleset.xml" wildcard use,  specifically for IP address and IP ranges. ie can I allow the IP range of 10.0.0.0/8??? How????  Anything I have tried has failed so far.  id= "10.0.0.0/8" and id= "10.0.*.*" don't appear to work for me.
Also the ability to use specific equipment on specific versions of Java would seem possible? There does seem to be some information about this use.
I am struggling with getting a grip on this "self signing certificate", how it will allow Java access to the equipment.
Also any good information on generating the certificate, key and jar file, (open source=free is the only option) so the file can be used on many different laptops/desktops to enable us to do our job as its getting more than frustrating. I am tearing my hair our and stong drink is my best recourse!
If the wildcard (for instance) id= "http://10.0.*.*." is possible then a single generation of the ruleset and jar file would seem to work for us. All Oracle/Sun wildcard documentation is geared to domain names, ie *.somebody.com and no one is saying anything about IP ranges!
No IT dept. Third party handles networking and pC support. However there seems to be NILL understanding of making the existing network work with Java to these devices in an acceptable manor.
    thanks
    Minsik.

How do I get around these Netgear things????
Well, you can't "get around them", per se. In each of them, the ports used for ARD will have to be open, and then eventually forwarded to the internal IP address for your mom's MacBook Pro. Given the (probably unnecessary) complexity of the setup at her house, that's going to be a bit difficult, and very probably not something you can do remotely.
The ports that ARD uses must be open in each of the routers between the modem and her computer (as well as in any router on your end). ARD uses ports 3293 and 5900 so those must be open. The ports also need to be forwarded in the Airport (if she's using the MBP wirelessly) to the MBP's internal IP address. Someone will have to connect into each router's admininstration function to set up those ports; I'm guessing that you won't be able gain such access remotely, though it's possible.
It's a complex situation, so it may take some tinkering to get it work, something that's probably going to be difficult from your end. With luck, her husband's son knows enough about what he's doing to be able to help. Anything he can do to simplify the network configuration will be of benefit.
    Good luck.

  • Losing quality when saving for web after using Multiply

I have a normal photograph, with a red layer on top set to Multiply/Darken. When I save it for web, regardless of what pixel size, or what uploader I use the quality is terrible.
Have tried uploading to different services, from difference devices with the same issue, so assume it's a colour profile thing.
    Any help appreciated.
Image shows the difference in quality compared to normal.

DPI is pixel size and images are not displayed on screens with the pixels sized as specified in images resolution setting.  The images pixels are displayed on displays with pixels the size the display is run with.  So web images display on display, display with different sizes and resolution depending on the users display device.
Images saved for web display should be saved with sRGB colors for many image viewers are not color managed and assume web images have sRGB colors.
So you images will display differently on different displays and no matter how you save them colors will vary  displays may  not be calibrated all displays do not have the same color capabilities.
The best you can do is calibrate your display and save them with sRGB colors jpeg or png files that display well  and look good on your calibrated display.
Most desktop displays are 100DPI resolution displays where newer  tablets and laptop have high resolution displays 200 to 300DPI.  Even new Desktop 4k display have lower resolution.  I believe the highest resolution 4K display in production is the Dell 24: display . Its resolution is 185DPI.   Out of production is IBM's old 4K display which had a 204DPI resolution.

  • Using Multiply + Overprint over Image = Error?

In the attached file i've placed a lowres cmyk image. On top of this, i have placed a rectangle filled with a spot colour called 'White'. This spot color has a cmyk value of 0,0,0,0.
When i then set the white rectangle to overprint (in the attributes palette) and to use the multiply transparency effect (in the transparency palette) it darkens the image!
Why is this? You can see the effect in the attached file, just toggle the white layer on and off.

I work in the flexographic industry where laying a spot white over the artwork is standard practice for hires plate (PDF) files. It is so the job separates properly when put through a print workflow to create digital plates. Of course the spot white could be purely overprinted but this creates a problem when using the hires file to create PDF proofs for customers as overprint preview is off by default in most PDF readers. Using a multiply transparency effect solves the opaque issue on PDF proofs and allows the main hires file to separate properly.
The problem is that when a spot white is given an overprint along with a multiply transparency effect (by accident) it effectively boosts the tonal values of any underlying images by 200%. This seems like a bug and i wondered if you know of a reason why white would have such an effect.
    Is this a bug?
    Is this intended behaviour?
Can you tell me why a spot white with these properties acts like this?
BTW, if you don't know, please stop with the elitest attitude trying to imply that i'm doing something wrong and move along.

  • Recomendations on how to deploy Adobe updates in a corporate enviroment

I am sure this has been asked but I couldn't find anything
We have many computers on a corporate network that are running Adobe Acrobat (6, 7, 8, & 9).  I am looking for an effective way to update all of my adobe versions with the latest patches on all of the computers without going to each computer and downloading 6-12 different updates.
Is there a centrally manage and deploy the updates to all PCs automatically?  I know there is many high-end software to do this that will cost 5,000-10,000 dollars but I would prefer to do it for much less if possible.  Right now for us Adobe is the Only product that is 'out of date'.
If not, do I need to download each update and deploy all of them or is there a 'rollup' package or service pack I can install instead?  ex...for Acrobat 8.0 I need to download 8.01, 8.02, 8.03, then 8.1, 8.12, 8.12, then 8.2...etc.  I would like to download the most recent update and apply that to the origional installation.  Most software has this capability so I may be surprised if Adobe doesn't offer this ability.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
    Thank You

I am in a similiar circumstance and received the following advice:
    CowboyInAZ recommended to me:
Why not manually download the standalone installer of 9.3.1, and put it on a network server? Then link to it internally, and let the end users install it from the internal link, where the firewall can't interfere with it.

  • Anyway to eliminate white background tone when using multiply

I'm multiplying 3 different monotone clips on top of each other. The montone was created using BASICS/ COLORIZE and remaping the white to white and the black to a specific RBG. The clips are then placed onto of each other and blended using COMPOSITING / MULTIPLY. The issue I'm having is that tone in highlights is creates frame edges to appear. Is there anyway to completely remove the white background and multiply the images so that the background edges don't show? I could increase the contrast but this takes away tone from the faces. See the attached clip reference.

How about using a Keyer effect to key out the white background in each image? You could then add a white background or just set it in the preferences.

  • Want to use multiply iPods on 1 PC

My wife and I have our own iPods (and music collections that we do not want to mix). I have been using mine on my laptop, but the hard drive crashed and I lost all my music on the laptop (but still have all the music on my iPod). Two questions:
    1) Is there a way to have two iTunes on a PC, so that when I sync my iPod, it will do so from my iTunes? And when she syncs hers, it will do so from her iTunes.
    2) If #1 is possible, can I download all my music on my iPod onto my "new" iTunes on the desktop?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hey there,
Yes, there are multiple ways of handing two iPod's with one computer. I would check out this Apple support document, which provides these methods and instructions on how to make them work.
[How to use multiple iPods with one computer|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495]
As to how to copy music from your iPod to the computer, there are several ways you can accomplish this. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • Using Lightroom in a group/corporate environment

I've been excited in hopes that Lightroom would solve my department's problems with photo organization, but I didn't initially realize that it was not at all designed with multiple users in mind. So here are my questions:
    - Has anybody successfully set up or been using LR in a group environment? (Or unsuccesfully?) What have you tried that worked or didn't work?
    - Our photos are all stored on a shared network drive. My first thought was that if one person got all of the keywords, etc. set up for the photos we have, that information could be exported and then imported on everyone else's LR. I'm now not sure that's possible, but I'm still a bit confused by what's stored within the photo file and what's written to the database.
    - I had thought that at the very least, everyone could set up their own keywords and use Lightroom independently. But since we're all accessing the same set of photos, we're going to get in trouble there, aren't we?
Suggestions? I've been trying to read some of the LR FAQs and sites, but I haven't had a lot of luck on this topic.

Jay is right, of course. The problem is that even if you use it independently (by each user NOT writing to XMP)how do you then ever update the files themselves on the common network drive? Or, maybe that is not an issue with the way you work.
On the other hand, the keywording is not the real problem--obviously if you are not all following the same keywording convention, then some images may have a lot of keywords associated with them, but that is livable in some senses. But, who does the image developing work--if several people are doing that and you are writing to XMP, then that might produce a lot of problems.
I, of course, do not know your specific workflow, so these are simply speculations, but at the very least if you do not use LR independently on each machine, then you have a workflow assignment and organization challenge.

It's an announced feature that will come with OS X Mavericks > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview
Until then, a third-party app can extend your desktop to your Apple TV, like AirParrot > http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot/
