Using MXO2 for monitoring fcp

I'm looking to monitor HD out of a MacPro with one video card, and wondering if the MXO2 mini will allow me to have 2 computer monitors hooked up to my video card, and export HDMI to a LCD/TV (3 screens). From what I'm seeing, it looks like I'm going to have to send video to it from one of my video card ports and I don't want to loose my second monitor for editing.
Am I confused here, will I need a second video card, or is there something more to the MXO2 mini that I'm missing.
Thanks...

+Am I confused here+
A little. The MXO2 connects to your MacPro through a PCIe card that you install in the tower, so you won't lose a display port. (You are probably getting confused with a different Matrox device, the original MXO which connects via DVI).

  • Using sensors for monitoring messages

    Hi All,
Is it possible to monitor messages using sensors on an exposed service in SOA Suite. Basically I want to monitor if any request messages have hit the web service for the last 5 minutes, else raise an email alert. The SOA composite I have is
Web Service ---> Mediator ----> DB Adaptor
Please suggest, how to achieve this.
    Thanks

  • Using tv for monitor with Mac mini

Using my 46 inche sharp as my screen for Mac mini. But sitting on couch it is hard to see things on the screen. Is there a setting to change the size view?

Change to a different progressive (p) resolution on Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays.  The higher the (p) value the smaller the text.  Use the zoom functions on Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Universal Access if you want to maintain the resolution and temporarily zoom on items to make them readable.

  • Using TV for monitor of MBA wirelessly?

I was wondering if i could use a TV as a monitor wirelessly using the MBA? the tv is connected to a yamaha YSP-400 sound bar. is it possible to connect to a other monitor wirelessly at all? thanks

I've seen at least one wireless monitor adapter, from Teq Gear. It doesn't seem to be Mac compatible at this time, and it's just under $1000 US, so at this point it would have to be a very special and critical circumstance before it was worth the money to me. Undoubtedly we'll see such solutions come down in price over time.

  • Anyone use Spector for monitoring kids?

Specifically, can the software monitor other user accounts?

    Catfish,
Yes, that is for what it is designed. Why would one wish to monitor one's own account? Have a look here for more information.

  • Using TV for monitor

I have my desktop computer connected to my Samsung 61" HDTV and the resolution looks terrible.  What do I need to do to get a better resolution?

How are you connecting it? SVideo output is not really that good no matter what resolution you hook into. I reccomend HDMI or DVI if available. Your TV should also have VGA inputs and that should work as well.

  • STP won't use my audio interface for monitoring, but FCP will

Hi, I've been using FCP for a long time, with my MOTU 896 audio interface (firewire). It works fine with FCP for monitoring the mix, playback, everything.
Today, I decided to try STP for the first time (up until now, I've been doing all the audio within FCP). I cannot seem to get the MOTU to work for audio monitoring unless I change the System Sound Preferences to have the MOTU selected (and not the built-in line out).
The STP Manual says that "by default, it will use the settings in the System Sound Prefs", but that you can change it. However, nothing I do seems to make any difference.
    - I set the Preferences:Recording tab to Monitor the MOTU 896.
    - In the Recording tab of the Inspector to Monitor the MOTU 896.
But it still plays back through whatever is selected in the System Sound Panel. I can change this to the MOTU, but I would rather have my system sounds playing through the regular built-in line out.
Am I missing a setting here? Thanks!
(This is STP 1.1, on a Mac Pro Intel, running OS X 10.4.8.)
    MacPro Quad Core 3.0 Ghz / G4 Dual 800 QuickSilver / PBook G4 Titanium   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Go to the AudioMidi Setup app and select the MOTU 896 as Default Output and built-in audio as System Output. That way, the system sounds will still use the built-in audio but STP will use the MOTU. Unfortunately, every other app (like iTunes or QuickTime) will use the MOTU as well. STP doesn't have any preferences to select its own interface like any other pro DAW out there. Maybe STP 2.0 will fix that?

  • Anyone using a 4K monitor with FCP X?

Is anyone using FCP X on a 4K monitor? I'm thinking about getting a Dell 4K monitor as my main monitor but I'm a little worried the user interface support on 4K is weak. I think everything is going to look super tiny.
    Has anyone already experienced this?
    Thanks!

So I have my new Mac Pro set up. 8-Core, 32 gigs RAM, Dual 700 GPUs, 512 gig internal Flash drive.
I purchased the 27" Thunderbolt display as my main Final Cut Pro X screen and I have the Dell UP2414q 4K monitor plugged in as the Viewer display.
I have the Dell set to "Best for Display" and it works fine. I have some 4480 x 1920 RED footage and I have the FCP X Viewers on the Dell. The footage is set to 100% and it bleeds a little off the sides, as it should since the monitor is 3820 wide. It's at its native resolution.
The user interface elements of the second monitor are at normal size - the menu bar, the FCP X view options. Buying a 4K monitor and using Best for Display gives you the desktop the size of a typical 1080 monitor, but it all looks like a Retina display. It's very crisp.
So if you want a second monitor to hold a ton of Adobe palettes, and have a very large desktop, I'd recommend getting a Thunderbolt display, beause this display behaves like a 1080 monitor in that regard. If you want a 4K monitor specifically for color grading 4K footage at the native size so you can see all the artifacts and things you wouldn't see with the footage at 50%, this Dell monitor is fine and it's $890 on Amazon. It's not a professional color grader's monitor, obviously, but it does well for me.
I took some 4480 x 1920 RED footage that had a sky that was gray (the famous Mercedes in the mountains footage). I used the color picker color correction in FCP X and was able to select that sky very easily. I can see why the fat 4K footage is so great in regards to color grading. Because you don't have the massive color gradiation and artifacts you get in the more compressed media, when you use the color picker, it selects a very large, clean, section of the sky. I was able to quickly make the sky more saturated and blue and play it in real time (Better Performance) it's it's perfectly clean with no halos around the tree branches as they move into the foreground of the sky. Very nice!
Nice feature in FCP X is all the effects, transitions, etc., have a "4K-ready content only" button at the top so it only presents you with effects and transitions that work with 4K footage.
It took a lot of time calibrating this Dell monitor. It has the Adobe RGC color space built in but when I set it to that and set the OS X Display color option to Adobe RGB, it all had a very slight purple/pink huge. Very slight. Whites were not pure white like they are on the Thunderbolt and my blue sky had a tinge of pink to it.
I calibrated it with advanced options in the OS X Display preferences. I then connected my Samsung HD LED TV into the HDMI port of the Mac Pro and set it as my A/V display in FCP X. I was able to do the custom color setting on the Dell monitor itself and lower the saturation and RGB values. It took about 15 minutes to get it looking right. Now, I don't see the very slight purple/pink tink. My blue sky looks blue, etc., and it looks exactly how it will look on DVD and Blu-ray and projectors at film festivals.
The Samsung LED TV was a breeze to use. As soon as I plugged it into the HDMI port of the Mac Pro, the displays changed and OS X went to 1920 x 1080 60hz. The color was set to an HD color preset (I forget the number and I disconnected it). Arranging the multiple monitors is as you'd expect, just works.
BTW, I have 2 10 TB 5Big Lacie Thunderbolt 2 hard drives. They are about $1K each at 10 TBs. I have one for my footage and one as a backup with Time Machine. No formatting necessary - just plug them in and go. I plugged in the first one, told OS X no for Time Machine. Plugged in the second one, told Time Machine yes. Renamed the second drive "Backup". I turned off hard drive sleep becuase it's annoying. You hear it spin up, spin down, spin up, etc. as you work.
I used the AJA benchmark and this is what I got with 16 gig test file, 4K video simulation:
    Write 740.3 MB/s
    Read: 849.1 MB/s
    Fast!
FCP X loads in 4 seconds on this system off the internal Flash drive.
    Cheers!

  • Useful for monitoring HDV in Final Cut Pro?

Here is a new blackmagic card for HD. Seems like this could be a cheaper way to monitor my FCP timeline. I normally edit HDV shows either natively of as AIC compressed. But I have to monitor it through the "desktop cinema preview" feature which doesn't show interlacing. So I don't really see the true picture I'm editing. This new card would seem to allow me to monitor on a modern consumer TV with HDMI input.
To good to be true?? Probably. What does anyone think?
    http://blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
    Paul

It's made for capturing other than HDV directly from camera in a live situation... not tape. Once captured as something else, it can be used to send the HDMI to a consumer HD set. Once on tape though, it's HDV all the way. This thing is an odd duck piece of gear used for special setups.... it's not what you need.
What you need is a Matrox MXO, or capture card that will convert the HDV to uncompressed HD or SD for monitoring...

  • FCPX crashes all the time using the Intensity Pro Card for monitor preview wassup?

I have been using FCPX for a few months and I like it somewhat and could really love it for it not crashing on all my projects. If I scrub the timeline or apply a filter it crashes. I'm using the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card for monitor output and the latest drivers that they put out and can't really get through a project because it crashes all the time.I thought that if i get a different display card it would possible help I have the GForce 120 card which only has 256MB ram.Can anybody put some light on the issue?

FCP X currently does not support Intensity Pro cards.

Not going to happen the way you want it to.
When you add a gift card balance to the Apple ID, it's available for the Apple ID.
Probably best to create unique Apple ID's for each... this will also make things easier in the future as purchases are eternally tied to the Apple ID they were purchased with.

I ran a Mini Display to HDMI lead to the TV but the picture quality was disappointing. I also tried a Mini Display to VGA lead and that wasn't much better. I tried all variations of resolutions in System prefs - Displays but nothing helped. Am I getting something wrong? Thanks all.

In addition to pixel density, you are up against the translation driver card in the TV.
If you read the fine print of computer-resolution-capability in the TV user guide, you will see a chart as tall as the manual page.  At the top is the smallest resolution capable, at the bottom is the full use of the 1080p in the TV.
Mac falls into the top 25% of the page, maxing out at 1366x768 often.  This is because the TV control card is expected to do too much of the work, but is not designed for computer-monitor processing.
I looked at the resolution charts on 2 TVs before deciding to buy a 1080p LCD monitor that has a TV interface/connector.  Computer monitor first, TV second.  But the thing is only 27 in.  Good thing TV is not as important to me as it is to others.

  • Can i use pc laptop monitor for mac mini?

I am going to be out of the country for a year - maybe in Africa, most likely in area not well served by technology.  I have to use PC for work so have a think pad.  I also have an ipad and a mac mini.  I really want to take my mac mini (mm) - it bridges a gap between these two.  It's small enough and I can use my bluetooth keyboard for both ipad and mm.  I can only take a suitcase plus backpack...so I am really not gonna haul a monitor.  Is there a way to use PC laptop as display for mm?  Weird, I know but I can only take so much...
thanks for any help you can give.  cheers

Pair a wireless KB with the laptop and all should be well when you attach the laptop to the iMac and invoke TDM. But as Denny mentions, it does seem like the waste of a good iMac to use it in just this configuration. Why is the laptop primary?
