Using my 3.06GHz Intel Core iMac in Asia

Hi,
I just purchased a new 21 inch iMac, but I have decided to move back to Hong Kong. I know they use a different voltage. (The voltage in Hong Kong is 200/220 volts, 50 cycles.)
I am not sure if the American model will work fine over there, and also if I would still have my one-year warranty.
I trust anyone of you more than myself reading the specs.
Kari

  • IMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (24-inch) - 2 or 4 slots ?

    Hi,
Crucial's memory selector tells me that I can install a maximum of 4GB of memory on my iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (24-inch). Why does the system info show me that I have 4 slots with 2 being empty (see picture below) ?
    Regards.

    Hi,
I found the reason why System Info is displaying 4 slots ... it's because I have 4 slots.
I have a 21,5" monitor not a 24". It is identified as an iMac10,1 model and the good news is that I can upgrade to 16Gb of memory.
That being said, I would like to upgrade, because I often find that my computer is slow. If I go to the Activity Monitor utility, iI think that my memory requires an upgrade but how much more should I put in ? See the memory display below.
Also can someone tell me if I could experience a faster computer if my processor is not used intensively, like shown below.
    Regards.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • 64 bit and the iMac 24",  3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB memory

    Hello,
I am confused about the whole 32 bit 64 bit situation
I have installed Snow leopard on my new iMac 24", 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB memory.
Can this machine run 64bit? I thought it was a 32 bit machine.
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Most Apple application run in 64 bit mode no matter what. Third party apps will if they are designed to. The unix kernel defaults to 32 bit mode for compatibility reasons. You can switch it to 64 if you like. I tried it and lost my Kensington mouse driver. Switching back to 32 brought it back. There is very little reason a normal user would need to run in 64 bit mode... but dangit I WANT to! Sadly my extra mouse buttons are more important...

Is the imac considered a G5?

  • Does Apple sell memory for Apple iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (21.5-inch - DDR3) Late 2009 anymore?

I have a 21.5-inch, late 2009 iMac (Apple iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo [21.5-inch - DDR3]) and I need more memory for it. Currently, I have the standard 4GB memory for it (2X2). I wanted to know if Apple makes memory for my model iMac anymore. Thanks!

Buy your ram from either Crucial http://www.crucial.com or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com.
Apple probably still sells ram for your iMac but you'll pay twice the prince and get less for it.

  • Have a 3.06GHz intel core 2 duo for FCP?

I all... I have a 3.06GHz intel core 2 duo IMac that I'm using for FCP.
At 3+ years old, I'm wondering if it's time to invest in a new Imac?
GHz speeds haven't gone up by a lot but I have to believe that speeds have?
Are render times in FCP or Compressor substantially improved to justify this purchase?
Thanks so much for your help!
    - BK

If you want flexibility then consider moving up to a mac pro, that'll give you a solid base for a performance boost. Unless theres anything wrong with your current machine, you might want to wait a month or so and see what kind of horsepower the new version FCPX plays best with.
    cheers

  • Can anyone dispel the rumours of using CS2 on an intel G5 imac

We need to buy yet another G5 imac. We have a 20" G5imac NON intel and want to buy another but the only option left now seems to be the new intel G5.
We need to run the whole CS2 suite on this from Pshop through to iDesign and I have heard rumours that it's not very compatible with CS2. It runs very smoothly on the machine I'm on now no probs.
Please can someone clear this up for me and point me in the direction of a report from apple or adobe that outlines, if any, any issues there are.
    Cheers

I don't think Red Dwarf and I have opposing points of view. He has not installed Version Cue. I'm not sure, but I don't think he uses CS2 to make a living. So he is not trying to do intensive things with the software, especially Photoshop. I also have CS2 on my iMac Intel Core Duo. I have all of Adobe's current updates. It works but, CS2 certainly runs slower than it does on a G5. When Steve Jobs introduced the iMac Core Duos in January, he made a point in his presentation that if you need to make a living with things like CS2 on a Mac, the G5s were still the better choice until 3rd party software is Universal binary, which means that it will run native on the Intel chip.
A search of this forum will show you many folks with CS2 installation problems and compatibility problems. And presently both Apple and Adobe tech support refuse to assist because it is PowerPC software running in emulation on an Intel OS X.

  • Is Lion aka 10.7 supported on "iMac 27" 3,06GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo"?

    Hi,
Will Apple support 10.7 (Lion) on  late 2009 Core 2 Duo iMac's?

Anyone here who knows can't tell you and the rest of use don't know.
You are going to have just wait until it is released to find out.

  • I have: iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM, OS 10.7.5.  It seems that a few times a day, the internet turns off and I need to turn OFF and then ON. There has also been about 3x in a week where everything freezes and I have to power down.  What can I do?

What can I do to find out what's wrong with my iMac?
Internet keeps shutting down. I have to turn OFF and then ON. Sometimes, I'm just browsing the web, sometimes on Facebook and lately it happens when I'm on Dropbox uploading.
A few times while editing photos on Lightroom or Photoshop the computer will freeze and I can't do anything but power off ..
What can I do to see what's wrong with my iMac?
    Thanks so much!

    Hi! Thanks for the reply..
No, I do not get any prompt whatsoever.. I can move the mouse but cannot click on anything.. Just frozen screen, can't close a window, can't click on apple symbol on top to try to force quit an app..

  • How to install 16GB of ram on imac 3.06GHz intel core 2 Duo late 2009?

I bought 16GB of Ram (4x4GB) to upgrade my current 4GB that I have. I tried to remove the original one's, but they don't seem to budge and I don't want to pull too hard.  Also, I have two empty slots that the new 4GB cards don't seem to fit so well.  I've watched many tutorials, but still need help.  Any suggestions???

Watch this video, the RAM is in there pretty tight. You should use both your thumbs to get some leverage, if you still can't get them out take the machine into an Apple Store or AASP either will be happy to help.

  • Using HDTV as display intel based imac

I have a mini dvi to dvi adaptor and a dvi to hdmi cable attached to my tv. I get nothing. Does this not work with an intel imac?

That's two adapters so there is more potential for something to be faulty. You can get one adapter that goes from Mini-DVI to HDMI. For example
[PTC Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter with 6ft HDMI Cable for Macintosh|http://www.amazon.com/PTC-Mini-DVI-Adapter-6ft-Macintosh/dp/B001H0REV K/ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261184066&sr=8-2]
Even with two adapters, it should work. When you open System Preferences Displays pane Appearance tab, does the second screen appear in the arrangement diagram? If it does, Mac OS X acknowledges the presence of the HDTV as a second screen. If it does not, the connection to the HDTV is not being seen, for some reason.

  • Using iMac6,1 Intel Core 2 Duo with Mac mini for Mavericks?

    Hello,
I am using iMac6,1 (white) Intel Core 2 Duo which works perfectlly fine and I hope to keep using this machine as long as I can.
I've learned, however, that OS Mavericks does not run on my iMac6,1 and Apple will no longer support it.
I am very attached to this machine and am not ready to face a new iMac display with a bold black frame...I just don't find it very attractive.
So I came up with an idea to buy a Mac mini and use my white iMac as a display.
    Does this idea work?
I know nothing about computer so please laugh if I am being silly.
    Now here's the specs of my beautiful white iMac if it helps;
    Model Name:
    iMac
      Model Identifier:
    iMac6,1
      Processor Name:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:
    2.33 GHz
      Number Of Processors:
    1
      Total Number Of Cores:

      L2 Cache:

      Memory:

    667 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:
    IM61.0093.B07
      SMC Version (system):

I recall having added memory and replaced a graphic board at a local Apple Store five years ago but I am not sure if it's shown here.

  • Quark Express 6.5 won't quit on my Intel-based iMac

    Hi,
At work I use a 20-inch Intel Core 2 Duo iMac (with 2GB RAM installed) and run Quark Express 6.5 as a PowerPC program through Rosetta.
Quark runs fairly quickly and saves OK, but it never quits properly when I shut my Mac down normally, it just hangs and says Application not responding in the Finder. In Quark I can't go to File>Quit either as it just repeats the above.
It's annoying because by not quitting properly, Quark doesn't save a preferences file (XPress Preferences.prf) which obviously remembers where you've put your tool box, palette boxes and other working preferences.
It may seem minor, but it does get irritating when you have to do it countless times a week! This problem effects all my co-workers on the same iMacs as me.
I've tried looking on the Quark website but can't find anything about this problem on their forums. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Many thanks on behalf of six head scratching, Mac-loving Quark users.
