Using my Aussie bought iPads in the USA

Hi there,
I have both the ipad mini and ipad air.  Both have SIM card capability, which I have never used.
We are travelling to the USA later this year and I want to be able to get sims for each of them once in America.
I asked at an Optus shop this morning and she said I would need to check with Apple to see if they were locked or
Unlocked.  I have no idea what she is talking about.  I can only assume she means with a carrier ??? I purchased
One from JB Hi-Fi and one directly from Apple.  Why would either be locked ??
Can anyone help please.  Thanks
Gail

no it's not but if your iphone is sim locked with an uk carrier you need the carrier to unlock it before you can use other sim cards
about using the "cloud" for whatever purpose require an Internet connection wifi or cellular

I don't know that you can purchase in one country and use it in another.  Try contactoing Adobe support thru chat:

  • Is there any difference between an unlocked Iphone sold in australia and the USA and if i bought one from the USA what would I have to do to use it.

Is there any difference between an unlocked Iphone sold in australia and the USA and if I bought one from the USA what would I have to do to use it.

An unlocked phone is an unlocked phone.  It's sold without a SIM card.  You have to get a SIM card from the carrier you want to use, with an account set up, insert the SIM and activate the phone in iTunes.
Unlocked phones sold by the USA online Apple store can only be shipped to a US address and paid for by a US credit card
The only difference between an officially unlocked iPhone sold in the US and Australia is the warranty.  The warranty is valid only in the country of sale.  If you buy the phone in the US and return to Australia, if it breaks you have to ship it to a US resident who will get it to Apple and return it to you.  It can't be shipped direct in either direction.

  • Can you use an Irish bought ipad in Australia?

Can you use an Irish bought ipad in Australia?

Yes as long as it is not part of a carrier's  package deal
    best to buy from Apple
Depends on model but 3G will be fine
only the iPad version 4 has the capability to work on 4G in Australia

  • Can I use my US bought iPad With Euro Carrier?

Will I be able to use the iPad 2 in Europe on a European carrier? Is it just a question of switching the sim cards?
    Thanks

If you're going to buy an iPad in the USA and then use it in the UK there are a couple of things you need to be aware of: -
    (a) In the US there are two different 3G models available - the AT&T and the Verizon (these are US carriers). Only the AT&T iPad will work in the Europe.
    (b) You need to 'initialise' your iPad 3G data service in the US before returning to the Europe. You can do that by purchasing a pay-as-you-go SIM in the US and then using the iPad temporarily there. Once you get back to the Europe you'll be able to remove the AT&T SIM and put in a UK SIM and they'll be no problem. But you do need to do this step. You won't be able to use the iPad in the Europe with a Europe SIM card unless it's been 'initialised' in the US.
    (c) If you're trying to do a price comparison with purchasing an iPad in the US or the Europe, remember that, when you return to the Europe you'll have to pay 20% VAT and Import Duty when you come into the country. You'll have to exit via the 'Red Channel' and you'll need to present the receipt for the iPad and then Customs and Excise will charge you there-and-then the appropriate taxes.
Other than that, you'll have no problems. Apple have a world-wide service network should you encounter any problems and your warranty will be valid in the Europe.

  • Just bought iPad gen3 the silence switch on the side doesn't work, it shows the symbol on screen but doesn't silence the iPad?????

Just bought iPad gen3 the silence switch on the side doesn't work, it shows the symbol on screen but doesn't silence the iPad?????

The Side Switch is to mute your ringers, and most of the application's sound. To totally mute the sound, you must use the rocker to mute it.

  • My question is which better to use every time my iPad until the battery is 0% then charge it to 100% then use it again until it is 0% or i use it until the percentage is low then charge it until it is 70 - 80 %  then use it but not let it charge to 100%

My question is which better to use every time my iPad until the battery is 0% then charge it to 100% then use it again until it is 0% or i use it until the percentage is low then charge it until it is 70 - 80 % percentage then use it but not let it charge until it is 100% to reduce the number of circles and increase the life of battery as i read that it must at least one time a month use the device until the battery drain to 0% then charge it again to 100% but i don't understand is it must be one, two, three times a month or properly most of the times  to reduce the the number of circles and increase the life of the battery?

    wuzradioman,
I was originally on your side in the discussion of batteries, however, after being contradicted by Meg St._Clair and others I took a leap of faith and took their advice with my Apple devices.  Much to my chagrin their advice has proven true.
Long story short I have not noticed any differences in my battery life by changing my charging habits to what is convienant over what is more in line with conventional battery myths.

  • I bought an iPad in the USA and registered it in Sweden  now back in USA and I can't use an iTunes card on my iPad because it not registered in USA . Does anyone know how I can use the iTunes card ?

I need help using an iTunes card on my iPad purchased when I was in the USA and registered it at home in Sweden.  Now I am back in USA and the iPad says iTunes card won't work on a foreign iPad. Is there a way to use this iTunes card?
    Thanks

What store are you trying to purchase in? If its a U.S. card - you have to use it in the U.S. store.
Go to Settings>General>International>Region Format>United States. Then go to Settings>Store>Tap your Apple ID. Tap View Apple ID. Enter your password. Go to country/region and make sure that you are in the U.S. store in there.

  • I want to buy and use an iPad in the USA whilst on holiday, will it work still if I take it back to the UK?

I can't seem to find a discussion that says 'I bought my iPad and used it in the USA' as this is what I want to do and then take it back with me when I go back to England.
    Many thanks in advance,
    James

The iPad is probably higher than your personal allowance
if so VAT and and duty is payable depending on how long you are in US
If you do't declare the iPad and get caught ,not worth thinking about
in terms of cost and possible penalties
Google personal allowance to find out details from HMC&E

  • I  purchased a used IPad in the USA to send to our charity in Ghana. It was posted from Nevada and was never delivered. I have purchased another Ipad and want to use the Apps I purchased on the missing Ipad? What can I do?

To Clarify above. I purchased a 1st generation Ipad to send to our charity in Ghana. I posted it off from Nevada US Postal service and it never arrived inl Takaradi Ghana. My belief is that as the customs declaration said "Ipad" it was too good an oppertunity for a postal worker between the US and Ghana to get a free Ipad.
After waiting a few months to confirm the loss, I purchased another Ipad at Schipol airport Netherlands as I was travelling back to Ghana this week. The cost was considerably more than the used Ipad and I am now out far more than I budgeted for.
My question is: How can I download the paid apps I had on the stolen Ipad on to the one I have just purchased. I have all the details concerning the stolen Ipad but no the seriel number. Any help appreciated.

  • Hello I have a 3G and a 4G iphone, purchased in Australia where I lived. But, now I am living in the USA. I understand both iphones from Australia have GSM language - Is there any way I can use either of these iphones in the USA?

Hello  I lived in Australia for 3.5 years, using a 3G and a 4G iphone.  In April I moved back to the USA and would like to use one of these iphones.  I understand Australia iphones use a GSM language and AT&T is the only carrier that will allow me to use for the GSM.  When trying to sign up with AT&T, the SIM card would not work.  When visiting Apple in Walnut Creek, CA, they said that these iphones I have cannot be used in the USA.
Before moving back to the USA, I visited the Apple Store near Sydney and they said I could unlock them to use them in the USA.  THey did something with the 3G iphone, but when I was at AT&T in Walnut Creek, I could not get the 3G to work.
Bottom line:  can I use either my 3G or 4G iphone that I bought in Australia here in the USA?
    Thank you for your help.
    KInd regards,
    Susan Williams

You should contact the carrier (in Austrailia I presume) to which they are locked to as they are the only ones that can unlock your iPhone.

  • When using my new US ipad for the first time my computer switched it to an Australian format (where we used to live) How do I set the default to all US settings on all of my iproducts? I set them individually but when they sync with my comp they b/c AU

When syncing my iPad for the first time to my iTunes (which was in Australia at one time but no longer) my iPad defaulted to the Australian format for phone numbers and each contact listed was now an Australian address. My iTunes is set to the USA. How/Where do I change the setting? It also changes the default to Australia on each of my iTouches and iPhones.
    Thanks!

    thanks for the help

  • How to use a non-US  iPhone in the USA?

I'll be traveling in the US for 3 months, but do not want to use my Austria-based "Orange" provider's SIM card because of astronomical 'roaming' charges, especially for data.
I asked my provider Orange whether they would officially sim-unlock my iPhone if I prepaid the rest of my 2 years contract (5 months to go) plus the €40 unlock fee, but they declined, saying that Apple does not allow locked iPhones to be unlocked before the 2-year contract is over. ?!?
I now have used Cydia to jailbrake and and blackra1n to sim-unlock my iPhone (vers. 3.2) : another SIM card now works (although I also experience a sluggish iPhone, but that was even before the jailbrake!!!).
My question: What plans (for voice AND data) are available in the USA that do NOT require a long-term contract, but say a monthly fee for as long as you use it? Who provides these, and what procedures are required to get it work?
    Thanks for pointers and suggestions.
    Cheers, Veit

    You have two choices:
Rent a sim from these folks(their sims are in fact AT&T sims):
    http://www.iphonetrip.com/
Or, purchase a pay as you go sim from TMobile. You'll be able to use voice & data, but data only on their edge network as their 3G system is NOT compatible with the iphone. Their coverage is also significantly less than AT&T's.
AT&T & TMobile are the only GSM providers in the US. AT&T stopped letting iphones use pay as you go sims for data on their network sometime in the middle of last year. So, while you could buy n AT&T pay as you go sim, all you'll get is voice with your iphone. Iphonetrip is most likely the best way to go.
Have a good trip! Get your phone "officially" unlocked & get the hacks off of it. Trust me, you'll be better off in the long run.

  • My Ipad 2 have a frozen with itunes icon a lot , i bring to apple store they fix it  , but on ly use about a week ipad have the same broblem a gain , I very tired and mad , I paid alot money for apple but they give mena ****  that why I buy sam sung table

My Ipad 2 have frozen with itunes icon alot , I bring to apple store fix it alot , but bring home use only a week , ipad have same broblem again , I very tired and mad because I pay alot money for apple but they give me bad ipad , future I thing about samsung tablet . Now my ipad still have a problem I am very upset this ****.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa
