Using My Blackberry 8220 flip with a Mac

I am a new user of the 8220 flip and I have been getting frustrated with learning to use the features I am used to using on my old phone.  Also, I have a macbook that I use and a Dell PC desktop at work and would like to be able to synch my contacts and calendars with my phone between the macbook and PC.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, especially on learning the phone.  The tutorial online is very limited.

  • I am not able to use my external hard drive with my Mac.

I am not able to use my external hard drive with my Mac. It was initially used with my Windows 7 laptop. Now when I insert my Hard drive in the Mac, it doesn't allow me to delete, format, make folders or copy new files on to my hard drive. I no longer have a Windows PC and am stuck. I tried going to Disc utilities, selected my HD, clicked on Erase and then changed the Format type to MS-DOS (FAT) but no luck .. Any other steps or advice?

It was likely formatted in NTFS which is readable by the Mac, but not writeable.
You should be able to reformat the disk in Disk Utility.
After having copied all the data off of it, you can try re-partitioning it.
Select the hard drive in the disk list in Disk Utility. Hard drives are the device itself, are left-aligned in the list, and are usually named with the manufacturer, size, and model number.
    Click on the Partition tab.
Select 1-partition from the partition menu.
Click the Options button and set to GUID
Set the format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Give the Volume a name and click Apply.

  • I need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?  i use OS X

i need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?

With the Lion it is essentially unnecessary to resort to external driver disks. What's more, most of those disks are incompatible with the OS and should not be used. The system already carries a wide variety of printer description files (aka PPDs, which is what modern printing systems use as "drivers") for a lot of brands. And there was an HP printer update just two days ago.
Just checked in mine and did indeed find that the HP OfficeJet 6200 Series, with or without Fax, is covered with the latest update.
So just go thru the motions of creating a proper printer instance:
Make sure the Mac "sees" the printer on the network.
System Preferences / Print & Scan
Click on the + button on the left column
Select the appropriate type of printer, will use IP for the rest of this
Select HP Jetdirect - Socket, default for HP network printers
Type the IP address or look it up
Name the printer for easy identification on the print dialog
Let the Mac identify the printer model or manually choose the driver
    Click Add.
Once the instance pops up in the list, can click on Options & Supplies for further config.

  • Can I Use a BlackBerry in India with Vodaphone?

Hello - I am new to this forum.
Can I Use a BlackBerry in India with Vodaphone?
    Thanks very much.

Check your Settings > Network Connections > Mobile Network > Network Technology to tell me what are your network choices listed as? 2G, 3G, etc?
You may need to get a new SIM card from Vodafone.
Has the one you have now worked for 3G?

  • How do i get the driver to use an HP laserjet 5mp with my Mac that runs Lion?

how do i get the driver to use an HP laserjet 5mp with my Mac that runs Lion?  I'm told by HP to get it through Apple updates but it doesn't show up.

The term "server", while technically correct, is misleading.  A print server takes the low-level protocol spoken by a printer and serves it over a higher-level protocol.  For example, parallel printer port (a.k.a. Centronics or IEEE 1284) and serve it over USB.  Or parallel or USB and serve it over Ethernet with a variety of printing protocols (lpr/lpd protocol, JetDirect protocol, port 9100 protocol, the names are confusing).
In reality, a print server looks nothing like what we usually associate with "server" (which is typically a biggish computer).  Instead they usually look like adapter plugs or even adapter cables, or like a little network hub (just with printer connectors instead of network connectors).
Here are a few examples (I'll use Amazon as a guide book, without implying that I endorse them).  Let's start with USB to parallel; it seems they tend to look like adapter cables.  Here is one that takes a USB plug (male) and creates a female port that you can plug your regular old printer cable in: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-To-Go-16899-IEEE-1284/dp/B000UX21PY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U TF8&qid=1333640548&sr=8-1
And here is one that goes from a USB plug directly into the printer: http://www.amazon.com/Parallel-Printer-Adapter-Connect-parallel/dp/B000BV8604/re f=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1333640548&sr=8-4 replacing the old printer cable.
Then there are (really cheap) Ethernet to printer adapters.  Here is one that you put into the printer (warning, the plastic cover will probably not fit afterwards): http://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC-TL-PS110P-Single-Parall/dp/B003CFATR4/ref=sr_1_ 11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1333640755&sr=1-11 By the way, I really don't like this type, I always find them unreliable.  But they are cheap.
The ones I like look more like a network hub. Here is the NetGear PS110: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-PS110-parallel-Ethernet-100Base-TX/dp/B0002AF9JU/r ef=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1333640860&sr=8-2
And the HP external JetDirect: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/18972-18972-236253-34214-64302-273 16.html?dnr=1&jumpid=reg_r1002_usenc-001&lang=en&cc=us (I think this is the best one of the lot).  Both of those you put next to the printer, use your existing parallel printer cable, and connect them to the network.  Don't get scared by the astronomical price of the HP; it's commonly available used.
There are even some wireless models around.  In theory, you might be able to use a parallel-to-USB adapter cable and then plug the USB cable into your trusty Apple Airport (as a good Apple fanboy or fangirl you've bought an Airport, right?), but I don't know whether that will work.  With the HP JetDirect box I'm quite certain that it will work (but it's old-fashioned, doesn't come in white, doesn't do wireless, and is not the slightest bit hip or cool).

  • HT4628 I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken

I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken. The problem is happen recently, I have to use an independent wireless card now. Thanks!

When you enable Internet Sharing in OS X, you are creating a separate sub-net.
There is no option to allow this to be a simple pass-through from Ethernet to AirPort (or the other way).
The problem is easily solved by getting an inexpensive wireless router. You can replace your current router OR disable the DHCP server on the wireless router and allow the wireless clients to get an IP address from the current router.

  • Can I use a Asus Nvidia gt640 with a mac pro 2006?

Just got my first intel mac! Not the newest thing but it will do. I just have a quick question, can I use the Nvidia gt640 2gb with a Mac pro 2006 with no flashing of the system or the card. Thank's. -Edward

First, you need to look at what OS version you have.  Mnay people (myself included) running some of the newer OS version are using Nvidia cards not released for the Mac.  OS X Mavericks for example will support these cards, but you lose some functionaility (boot screen, etc.)  Once the machine is up and running they work fine.
With a 2006 model you are before the 3.1 machines and therefore limited in the OSX version you can run.  I think you need at least 10.7 Lion.
So if you can run 10.7 the answer is probably, but then you will lose some basic functionality.  For many this is not important.

  • Blackberry 8220 Flip phone - problems with downloads

I came across two problems with the downloads and I'm wondering if anyone else has the same problems??
#1 - I downloaded "facebook" to my handheld, and after the download was complete, my phone was shut down and when it came back on again, facebook did not recognize my email/password.  I registered using my blackberry email and password and that is what I used to try to login into facebook.  I eventually deleted facebook from my downloads, because I really didn't know what to do ... so I thought I'd try here.
#2 - After deleting facebook, I thought I'd download Yahoo! Messenger, as I'm familiar with that.  Only thing is, after the download, I could not find the icon to get into Yahoo! Messenger anywhere.  It was not in my downloads folder, nor could I find it anywhere else??  I found it was added to my "normal" profile on the phone, but was at a loss as to where to find the shortcut?
I have not read all the forums (my bad - I'm a newbie, but I did look around!), and it appears that no one had discussed these download problems (yet).  My apologies if they have been discussed earlier - has there been a solution for these?

  • Blackberry 8220 Flip phone gives red light, then shows clock and repeats...... forever....!

Hi I have a blackberry pearl 8220 flip that's bricked. It goes from a long red light to the clock loading screen and continues until by battery is dead.
I have tried reloading the current OS available (v4.6.0.174) through the latest blackberry desktop manager several times, and I did select the options to completely wipe all data on the pearl. I got the desktop manager to detect the phone by taking out the battery at first, and then putting it in. The reload worked properly, everything got wiped off and the os was reinstalled. It worked for a couple of hours, but the problem pops up again. I've even tried reloading an older os (4.5) but it doesn't work either.
    Please help...

Hmmm...OK, then you might need to completely wipe it out first and then reload the OS...see this:

If that fails, then you are probably ready for warranty support -- from your carrier.

  • Unlocked T-Mobile Blackberry 8220 Flip and other Network Providers

    Hello Everyone,
Just bought an unlocked t-mobile blackberry pearl 8220 flip phone and wondering if there will be any issues with my service provider in regards to mms, gprs or BIS? Currently have a sim with mms and gprs access for my Sony Ericsson T306, i know these t-mobile branded phones have imbedded apps for t-mobile like tzones etc and you can't really get gprs access whether provisioning it manually or automatically from service provider. Does anyone had any issues or solutions can help me out.

Probably.  I don't see that you have stated your carrier, so it could vary.
You should be ok, but in most cases, on a BlackBerry, a MMS Transport service book is required for MMS messages to carry the 'data' portion of the MMS message. Realizing that MMS is nothing more than an SMS text message with a file, or data, attached, the carrier pushes a service book to your device which enables the data portion of the SMS.

  • Using a seagate external drive with multiple macs

i got a 1TB seagate external hard drive for backup and transfer purposes... it had a little program to help set it up and i set it up for use with mac and pc ( only onther option was stricty this computer.) it works on my computer and a pc but when i tried transfering files from another older mac i have it showed that i could only read on that computer...
how can i get it to work with multiple macs...?

I have the oldest macbook (1.83. 2 gigs ram, 60 gig internal hard drive)
I have all my logic content on my external maxtor firewire 400 drive (usb 2.0 is actually faster than firewire 400) and everything is fine. the good thing is if your external drive has 7200rpm, but the ones with 5600rpm should do as well.
Once you drag your apple loops to logic from your external drive, logic will remember for the next visit. And when you are opening a project which is on the external drive , just find it with logic finder and all should be fine.

  • Using a 30" Cinema Display with new Mac Pro

    Hello Everyone:
I just purchased, and waiting to arrive a new 2014 8 core Mac Pro which is an upgrade to my 2009 quad core Mac Pro. I currently use a 30 inch Apple Cinema display which has the DVI connection. I was thinking that I would use a DVI to HDMI adapter and plug the 30" into the HDMI port on the new Mac Pro. I have since heard that people have been having issues with this older monitor getting it to work properly with the new mac pro. some have suggested buy the $99 mini display port to DVI adapter and using that, but I don't believe there is a mini display port on the new mac pro.
I have considered buying a new thunderbolt display because I am assuming that it will have a much better image quality than the older 30 in display but I hate the fact that it's a 27" and I would be giving up the 3" in size. I do a lot of video and audio recording editing and love the extra screen real-estate.  Can anyone confirm a couple of things for me?
    1. Will the 30 inch display work with a new mac pro and can I use the DVI to HDMI adapter?
    2. Does the new Thunderbolt display have a much better image quality than the 30 in display and because its newer, will look that much better with the mach pro?
    Thank you in advance.

    1. Will the 30 inch display work with a new Mac Pro?
    Yes.
Can I use the DVI to HDMI adapter?
Not if you want full resolution.  You need a Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter>
It plugs into a Thunderbolt port (and USB port) on the computer.
    2. Does the new Thunderbolt display have a much better image quality than the 30 in display and because its newer, will look that much better with the Mac Pro?
No, it has more pixels (in the vertical direction), but they are spaced a bit more apart, so you don't want  to be as close to the display.

  • Can i use a seagate external drive with my mac?

Hi, probably a dumb question but i want to make sure before i buy, can i use this drive-
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=18283 84&Tab=5
with an imac g5? to me,it seems like a good price. i have fceHD and a 1.8 g5 with 512 ram. Thanks in advance. Ben
    Imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

The hard drive itself is excellent. I have two external FireWire/USB 2.O drives, both of which contain Seagate drives similar in specification to the one you propose to buy, though both are 300GB in size. My question is whether the drive enclosure is a good buy (i.e. one that will work with your Mac). You want an enclosure with a good FireWire Bridge chip, such as the Oxford 911, which is known to work well with Macs. I looked at your link, but I could not tell which chip is found in the enclosure.
I would not buy this until you find out what kind of FireWire Bridge is in the enclosure.

You'll pay a bit more for a similar hard drive at OWC than the one you are considering presently, but as they say, you get what you pay for. OWC backs it products with a great warranty, too.
