Using my older iPhone 2.5G as iPod, Wifi and buying applications
If I give my old iPhone to my son to use as music player, WiFi access and be able to download games and other application from the Apps. Store.
But now this iPhone would be a disconnected phone.
If there is a new software update in the near future, say 2.01, then how am I able to update the software which is a disconnected phone connecting to iTunes.
My son has his own iTunes account also.
In summary, an iPhone, to use exactly like an iTouch and also be able to update the new upgrade software when and if Apple updates one, in future?
No phone line is active, my old iphone number is to be transferred to my new 3G iPhone.

I'm tired of wasting battery on my iPhone 4 to listen to music, so I wanted to use my old iPhone 3GS as an iPod. I read you had to have a sim card inserted in the phone, regardless if it's activated. So I put the old one inside, but when I connect it to my computer, it won't charge, or sync with iTunes. It's definitely not my charger because both of my phones charge in a wall outlet, and my iPhone 4 charges through the computer. Just not the iPhone 3GS.... I'm going on vacations with long car rides and would like to use this. Help please!

Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? Nope. I've already turned off cellular data. It happens regardless, as soon as it is done powering on.
I suspect it might just be built into the phone's firmware to do that... and I have to hit "ignore" whenever it happens, but I just wanted confirmation of that... -

The ability to see and send calendar invites is a function of the calendar you are subscribing to and who owns it. We need more information, like what calendar are you subscribing to? MS Exchange? Google? Mobile Me?

iTunes has a nasty habit of deleting the previous backup every time it does a backup. If you really have an old backup intact, there is a way to restore from it. I forget the procedure, but I'm sure you can Google it. It's a good idea to manually go into your backup directory and manually copy it over to a new name once in a while. That way iTunes won't touch it, and you can use it in an emergency such as yours.

My iPhone won't work without wifi and I can't receive or send iMessage unless I have wifi or 3G can't use Instagram, Twitter or anything to do with internet or messaging, how do i fix it?
For anyone else wondering how to fix this, all I did was turn my iPhone off and then turn it back on.

My iPad Air always freezes during FaceTime calls using wifi. I switch to my iPhone 5c on the same wifi, and it never freezes while I'm sitting in the same location. Is there maybe a setting I have that is causes this? I am up to date on the OS 7.1.1. Video and audio is froze on my end, only video freezes on the other end. It doesn't make a difference who makes the call either.
No, there isn't any setting that you are missing. Have you tried force closing FaceTime, and resetting your iPad?
In order to close FaceTime, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that does not make a difference, you could try resetting all settings, if you reset all settings you will have to enter all of the device preferences again in the settings app. That takes some time to accomplish, but you will not lose my data, media, apps or anything like that. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings.
If that doesn't help, the next step would be to restore the iOS software. Backup your iPad first, restore the iOS, then restore the backup.

I have 2 iphones 4s's, ones my wife and one is mine. we have different apple IDs, can we share one itunes account?? if so, how??
If you haven't set up your own Apple ID already don't. I suggest you use the same apple ID as your wife's. The alternative is to do this http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848. It's not efficient as you have to swap apple id's to update apps under both IDs. 20/20 being hindsight, I would have never created a 2nd apple ID for my wife.

I believe it has to be activated by a cellular carrier upon purchase. I do know that after you've done this and have used it as a valid cell phone that it can be used as an "iPod touch" type of device with no further issues...I'm doing exactly that with an older iPhone 4.

I dropped my iPhone 4 in water and cannot get it to dry out enough to turn back on. I may have fried the battery. I am using an old iPhone 3 temporarily but cannot get all of my current info to sync. You can't restore an iPhone 3G from an iPhone 4 backup. Until you get a replacement you can access your iCloud data at iCloud.com on a computer. -
If I buy an app for my iPad 2 do I have to buy another copy of the app to use on my iPhone 5?
Depends all IOS apps that work on the iPhone/iPod touch can be scaled/doubled to work on iPad, however those built specifically for iPad won't work on the smaller brethren.
You can see in iTunes what apps can be synced to each device type. -
i got my new iphone a week ago. i started using it straight away, before i knew about icloud and that i could sync all my contacts, etc to the new phone. i then turned on icloud for contacts - this worked fine. today i tried putting my music onto my phone. i clicked 'recognise a B's iphone' in itunes - this has synced music and apps. the only problem is that i have lost all my text messages from the last week. the phone is showing old messages from december 2012 only! can i delete these and get my recent messages back??

balerina.You did more than sync the new iPhone with iTunes since syncing with iTunes does not include text messages.
The first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or set up the device as a new iPhone.
The former replaces all data on the iPhone that is included with the selected backup for the other iPhone or iOS device. The latter does not.
If a backup for your new iPhone was not created with iCloud or if created and has been updated since the backup was transferred from the other iPhone or iOS device, the previous data on the new iPhone is gone.
