Using my Treo 650 to connect to internet

Is there any Vista compatible software available so I can connect my Treo via USB to my laptop and allow the laptop to connect to the internet?
I used to have this feature with an older laptop using an older Motorola cell phone. Was wondering if there was something like this still available.

  • How to use your Treo 750 to browse the internet on your mac

    Hi There,
I am by no means an expert on this, but this is what has worked for me. I'm on Vodafone in New Zealand but I think this setup (or very similar) should work with Cingular in the states or other Windows Mobile v5 devices.
    1. Install The Windows Mobile Modem Scripts Onto Your Mac
Download the Generic Windows Mobile Modem Scripts (3 of them) from: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
The scripts are under "Windows Smartphones & BlackBerrys" called "Scripts for Windows Mobile phones" (half way down the page)
Once downloaded, put the scripts into >Library >Modem Scripts
    2. Start Bluetooth on the Treo
    Go >Start Menu >Settings >Connections (from the bottom) >Bluetooth
    Tick "Turn on Bluetooth"
Tick "Make this device discoverable to other devices"
    Click OK
    3. Pair The Treo with your Mac (done on the Mac)
If the Bluetooth menu is not already on your mac (near the date and time, top right) go to >System Preferences >Bluetooth
Under the "settings" tab tick "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" and the menu will appear
Once the menu is there, choose "Set up Bluetooth Device..."
Click "Continue" and on the next screen choose "Mobile Phone". Click "Continue"
Make sure the screen on the Treo is on (I've found the mac has trouble discovering the device otherwise)
Choose your phone and click "Continue"
Click continue and enter the pass code on the Treo and click "Next"
Once pared, on the phone click "Finish"
On the mac, make sure "Access the Internet with your phone's data connection" is ticked and click "Continue"
Enter your Vodafone (or Cingular) account username and password (see notes below)
Under phone number enter: *99# (this invokes GPRS or the 3G data connection)
Choose "Windows Mobile GSM 460k" from the "Modem Script" pop up menu
    Click "Continue"
    Click "Quit"
Select the new phone from the Bluetooth Devices list and press the "Edit Serial Ports" button from the left
Click the plus sign under the main window
Name it "Treo750" (or Cingular or Vodafone or whatever you want)
Choose "Modem" from the "Port type" pop up menu
Tick "Require pairing for security" and "Show in Network Preferences"
    Click "Apply"
    4. Configure The Bluetooth Port
    Go >System Preferences >Network
    Choose "Network"
A "New Port Detected" window should pop up, click "OK" (if it doesn't and you have a new "Bluetooth" port, don't worry)
Select the "Bluetooth" port from the list and click "Configure"
Under the PPP tab, click the "PPP Options" button from the bottom
Untick "Send PPP echo packets" and "Use TCP header compression" under "Advanced Options"
    Click "OK"
Click the "Apply Now" button from the bottom right
    Close System Preferences
    5. Connecting to browse the internet from the mac
    Go >Applications >Internet Connect
    Click "Bluetooth" from the top
Tick "Show modem status in menu bar"
    Quit internet connect
Make sure the Treo is on and bluetooth is on (and your data connection is on, see notes below)
Go up to the internet connect menu (the little phone icon) and select "Connect"
    Notes
For the carrier account name and password, I just used the same account info that was on my phone under >Start >Settings >Connections >Connections Icon >Manage existing connections >Edit "VFNZ Internet" (or your carrier name) >Next Screen >Next Screen >Next Screen. On this third screen, I found my account details.
If for you there is nothing, then more than likely your carrier doesn't require a name and password - so on your Mac, leave these fields blank and just enter *99# for the phone number. Although, I think you may have to use something (for Mac & Windows Mobile compatibility) so just try entering username: guest and password: guest. There is much more info regarding this in the readme file that comes with the Windows Mobile modem scripts. Or contact your carrier for your specific details (probably the best thing to do!).
I have found the connection to be a little bit unreliable when the Treo's screen goes to sleep - so I tend to hit a button on the treo every 30 seconds to keep it on - But Vodafone here in NZ has flashed the ROM to make it HSDPA compatible so others may not have this problem.
I had trouble the first time I tried to connect through internet connect. But after I connected through >System Preferences >Network >Bluetooth >Connect button next to the configure button at the bottom, it worked every time from the Internet Connect menu.
Also, you may want to check your email or browse a page on the Treo first, just before connecting from your mac to make sure the data connection is on - I haven't worked this out fully but I'm not sure the Mac can open the data connection itself. Again, this may be a region/carrier specific issue.
    Cheers
    Ben

i have some problam in my laptop in connecting for internet but not open for broswer and not update for software  tell the solution

    Hi @jerry3 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and not getting to the Internet. First try just to reset the router. Unplug from the power wait a few moments and plug back in.
Can get to safe mode with command prompt? F11 upon startup choose safe mode with Networking.
Can you get to the Internet in safe mode?
Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Cannot use system restore and cant connect to internet?

I have a 1 month old Satellite - L455d-s5976....was working fine, really liked it until today...In the middle of checking email the laptop shutoff on its own, then when I turned it back on I cannot connect to interenet via internet explorer...whats odd though is it does "connect" I presume becuase it was able to update the wireless adapter driver when I tried it... No matter what I do, I cannot get to any internet sites, yet it shows Im connected to my network etc.... So, I tried to use system restore multiple times...every time it says it cant complete becuase i may have virus software blocking a file etc...but I dont have any virus software??? Just windows firewall, and I tried disabling thta too...Help please!!!! I bought this laptop mainly for internet use...amazing its broke in one month!

Have you tried resetting your router and modem?
I have seen many cases where simply resetting the wireless router and modem have fixed the issue.  Try that and then restart the laptop.

  • Treo 650- Can't get service after trip to Thailand & use of different SIM card - AT&T says it is a hardware problem

I have used my Treo 650 for years in the US. I've also taken it to other countries (Africa, Europe) and used SIMS purchased there for service while in those locations. Upon returning to the US after each trip, I've always been able to use my US SIM to get my US service back.
However, I went to Thailand in November and used a SMILE SIM and another Thailand SIM, both of which worked in Thailand.  Unfortunately, upon returning to the US, my US SIM won't work for getting service any more.  (I am using my US SIM in a Nokia phone in the meantime, and it is working. When I put the SIM into my Treo, it will transfer the text messges, but will not connect to my service provider, AT&T.)
I called AT&T and they said it was a hardware problem.  I suspect it might be a "lock" problem with one of the Thailand companies.  Is it possible that the Thai company locked my cell phone?
So my question is, how can I fix this?  Whatever the problem is, I'd sure like my service back!  Please help!!
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Unlocked GSM)

I don't think a SIM card can lock your phone. Did you let them do anything with the keyboard?
Can you try with a friend's AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card and see whether either will work?

  • Sprint Treo 650 connection with Apple Powerbook G4 867 MHz runing 10.4.6 ??

I am trying to use my Sprint Treo 650 as a modem with the Apple Powerbook laptop running the latest version of Tiger.
The old Treo 600 worked just fine using the laptop with 10.3.7.
But the old 600 died and I was forced to purchase a 650.
The Treo 650 manual says its possible to use the Treo 650 as a modem. The Apple manual says its possible to use a mobile phone as a modem.
I have actually gotten to the point where, after inserting "passords" like 654379 on my Treo after they were issued by the Apple. I've been told:
    "Congratulations, you are connected"
    They lie to me.
I've read about "hacks" for the TREO and the need to install special scripts. The instructions go for 26 written pages.
Is there not an easier way? These are the kind of things that make me not even want to visit the Apple Store ever again.
    And I love my Apples!
    Thanks for letting me vent.
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Don't know if it makes a difference (I don't think it does), but I have no problem connecting Treo 650 (Sprint Vision service) to my MBP 10.4.6 as a wireless modem. Make sure that you have the latest firmware on Treo 650 that enables DUN (Dial Up Network) on BT pref.
I just simply used the OSX BT setup, making sure that my 650 is discoverable and with a code (paired) for security. It is also using 650 serial port as RS232 port.
Connecting to 650 is done through Network connection on system Pref or via Airport menu. Under BT, configure as Other, the number to dail is #777 with account name and password to your Sprint Vision account (not your Sprint main account login or pw). It should be something like [email protected] for account name and corresponding password for that.
I think this is all you need to do. Did not use any hacks (in fact I completely stay away from Hacks - I have simple needs and want to keep things simple).
You'll have to probably try few times to get it all right and connect but it should not be too bad.
    Hope this helps
    Good luck....

I would like know too if this Smartphone can receive Wireless signal for a Wireless Roter for example to conect at Internet ??? Someone can help please?? Give me some orientation !?!? TANKYOU VERY MUCH, excuse me for bad english!
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Sprint)

    Hello!
Unfortunaly for the phone to function you will need CDMA wireless service from a carrier, like Vivo.  It does not have the ability to pickup WiFi signals for that is completely differnt and device does not have a WiFi radio built-in   Good chance your pay as you go provider also has pay as you go data plans to get data on the phone.

  • Setup problem:  Can't setup Treo 650 (Cingular) with iSync on Macbook

    Hi,
Trying to use my Treo 650 with iSync on my MacBook. It worked fine with an iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.8.
I paired my Treo with the MacBook. That seemed to go OK, but the Bluetooth Setup Assistant showed a message saying "There were no supported services found on your device" at the end of the pairing process.
When I launched iSync, I went to Devices --> Enable Palm OS Syncing and let the conflicting Palm conduits disabled. No problem there.
But when I then choose Devices --> Add Device, a window appears as the MacBook searches and finds my phone. It then displays the message "1 device found", with the name of my device next to a phone icon. Beneath that, another message says "iSync cannot connect to this device".
Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? My Treo is set to discoverable. I can't figure it out.
    Thanks in advance!

The Add Device… response is normal. You cannot add a Palm device using that menu option - it is added as a consequence of selecting the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option beneath it in the list.
If you have successfully paired your Treo using Bluetooth and triggered the installation and configuration of it after selecting the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option and it still does not appear as a device in the main window of iSync, you should launch the HotSync Manager to insure that the iSync Palm Conduit appears—it's listed as the iSync Conduit—and that it has been activated: the checkbox in the conduit configuration panel should be checked.
This may also be a basic Bluetooth issue, as the your Treo contains several supported Bluetooth profiles, and is a supported device. You might want to break the link, and pair it once again, initiating that action from your smartphone and confirming it from your MacBook.

  • Need to upgrade from my Treo 650

I have a Treo 650 that is getting old, but I love it. I use it to manage my entire life! Should I replace it with another Treo 650? Or is there another Palm product that I can upgrade to that I can transfer all my data to?  I use my Treo 650 (Verizon) as a phone and PDA to store memos, tasks, contacts, calendar, etc.  I noticed that Verizon will soon be carrying palm Pixi Plus and palm Pre plus but I don;t know if they are a good solution for me. I am not technologically savvy. Please help. Thanks!
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Verizon)

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
If you were to get another Treo 650 to replace your current one, you would basically be replacing an old, used device with...another old, used device.
The easiest "upgrade" path would be to go with a new model of Palm OS phone that works on your carrier.  Problem is, Palm doesn't make 'em any more.  It's all webOS...Pre and Pixi will both be coming to Verizon as you already know.
The upgrade path from Palm OS to webOS depends a little bit on whether you sync your data with Palm Desktop or Microsoft Outlook.  There are several ways to do it...exporting data from your current desktop repository and importing it into a Google account; using the the Data Transfer Assistant which you'll have access to if you get a webOS device; or using a third-party desktop sync application such as Chapura Echo (Palm Desktop) or Pocket Mirror (Outlook).
Personally (since you asked for opinions), I would visit your Verizon store when the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus are available; see how you like the hardware, and give it a test run.  Assuming they will give you a 30-day trial period like AT&T and Sprint do, you can return it if the migration turns into more of a hassle than you'd like to deal with, at which point you can always look for a newer Palm OS phone in the used market such as eBay.

  • Problems with connecting to internet

maybe i won't have internet for long so i have to make this quick:
    1. I use bcm43xx kernel module to connect to internet and this has been going OK(sometimes iv'e had to disconnect and reconnect to still get internet however) nut completely died this morning.
    2. the internet is coming into a black box(get.no cable internet box) and is passed from there over to my wifi-router.
This has been working but due to today and the fact that i need internet all the time(because of work) i bought a new router(which is supposed to be "the best" and cost accordingly...) and replaced the old one because i suspected it to have died.
After some fiddling around i get this one to work.
Now some hours later, i don't get internet stable anymore. The connection drops each time this msg is printed to /var/log/messages.log(inotail -f FTW!):
Sep 26 23:25:34 garbagepailkid SoftMAC: Authentication timed out with 00:1b:11:68:db:b1
    (what is this softmac??)
I use wifi-radar to connect -- and would _really_ appreciate a little guide on how to connect to the internet through cmd-line(and an explanation of what the cmd's do would be even more appreciated) as it would enable me to be more in control with a larger ability to troubleshoot this -- but maybe the problem lays elsewhere.
This is what happens in messages.log when i try to connect through wifi-radar and fail:
Sep 26 23:31:26 garbagepailkid ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
    Sep 26 23:37:07 garbagepailkid dhcpcd[30155]: eth0: dhcpcd 3.1.4 starting

    Sep 26 23:37:43 garbagepailkid dhcpcd[30156]: eth0: broadcasting for a lease
when i succed(this happens after an arbitrary amount of connects&disconnects through wifi-radar but now it doesn't work at all it seems...) i get an 192.168.0.x ip... and it also says ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE) <-- What is this?? How do i modify this one?
    any help appreciated...
ps: just noticed. it seems to go up if i disconnect fast(still from within wifi-radar) and click connects again immediatley

hmm... i now connect with my little trick above. disconnect & then connect fast again so i don't know if thats the reason i haven't had trouble anymore but i rather suspect it is because of the bug with bcm43xx that were fixed with the 2.6.22.9 kernel which upon installation iv'e had no problems, since i don't suddenly lose connection like i did before

  • TS4079 siri keeps saying connect to internet: but I am connected?

I have turned Siri both off/on several times. I am also connected to internet, but everytime I use Siri it says please connect to internet

I have Norton Internet Security 2005 and have not had problems except with CDDB with a proxy server.
Assuming you are using the Norton forewall, but something should work with other firewalls.
As suggested, try turning off NIS briefly and see if you can connect then. If you can try the following:
Make sure you have all updates.
Go in to the firewall settings - configure programs.
Delete references to itunes and quicktime. You may find them listed under Apple.
    Restart the computer.
Then go into the firewall and manually configure these programs:
    In Program Files\iTunes - iTunes.exe and iTunesHelper.exe
    In Program Files\Quicktime - QuicktimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe and QTInfo.exe.
In fact for me the automatic configuration worked fine, but doing it manually seems to have worked for some people.
Another thing that can cause connectivity problems, go into Internet Explorer Tools>Internet Options>Connextions>LAN Settings and make sure that "Automatically detect settings" is checked.

  • Using my treo in windows and mac

Hi everyone! I just recently converted from a pc to a macbook. Its been an interesting transition. I seem to live lurking on the boards trying to figure out various issues. This one I cant get:
I used my Treo 650 on my windows. And now I want to convert it over to the mac. I have uploaded the latest palm software (that I saw in another thread), and while I can get my isync to recognize it, nothing comes over when I open the software. I also synced using my hotsync and again, nothing is in the palm folder or the address book on the mac.
    What am I missing?
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you have installed Palm Desktop 4.2.1 revision D on your Macintosh, you need only configure your standard Palm conduits initially to Handheld overwrites Macintosh. This will transfer your contacts, calendars and task records to the Palm Desktop. Memos will be transfered, but are not supported by iSync, should you choose to go that route.
To move copies of your contacts to the Address Book, export the data from the Palm Desktop in vCard format, then import that data into the Address Book. To move copies of your calendars into iCal, export them in vCal format, then import that data into iCal. The export and import of task records for use in iCal is not supported.
At this point, you will need to determine if you want to synchronize with the Palm Desktop or with iSync, thereby transferring data to the Address Book and iCal instead. [The Missing Sync for Palm OS is an alternative, discussed below.] You cannot synchronize to both environments - it's one or the other. If it's the Address Book and iCal combination with iSync—where you will have to perform a one-time manual input of task records and where memos are not supported—the use the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option in the Devices menu of iSync to initiate that process. If it is to the Palm Desktop, do not add your device to iSync: instead, simply revert your conduits to the Synchronize setting to enable bidirectional data transfer.
You may wish to synchronize to the Address Book and iCal using the Missing Sync for Palm OS, a far more capable and robust program than iSync, and one which overcomes the irritating limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit. It also synchronizes AvantGo content, media files and photos to iTunes and iPhoto, memos to an included Mark/Space MemoPad application for OS X, and generally improves the synchronization experience. In addition, it supports the features available in advanced Palm devices like your Treo 650, including the transfer of contact photos, synchronization of contact and calendar categories, and multiple address data fields not supported by the iSync Palm Conduit. More information about that application is available here:
