Using my US AT&T iPad2 with a European sim card

I have an AT&T iPad 2 which has already been activated and used here. I would like to purchase a European sim for the iPad for use in Italy, France, and Spain over a 2 week period with good coverage. Has anyone done this and not had to have along their apple computer with iTunes to activate the European sim since the iPad has already been initialized in the US? Can anyone recommend a good carrier for those three countries? Vodafone? Starting our trip in Rome. Thanks.

An iPhone 4 CDMA is CDMA only. It doesn't have any GSM circuitry and doesn't have a SIM slot. You can only use it on the network it was originally sold for.

  • Use a japanese iphone with a european sim card?

    Hello,
My question is: Is it possible to use an iphone purchased in Japan (with a japanese sim card) in Europe with a european Sim card. I know it has to be unlocked but that's not a problem. My concern is the Sim card.
    Thank you for your help.

Japanese carriers do not unlock iPhones at all nor are unlocked iPhones sold in Japan.
I believe that Apple started selling unlocked phones directly sometime last year.

Idiz, Oh wow, a trip to Austrailia - how exciting! I have great news! All of our 4G LTE phones are unlocked for our customers. You will be able to use a local Global SIM card with your device while traveling Internationally. Here's more information surrounding our Device Unlock policy http://bitly.com/1BDQy5r .

  • Need confirmation that an iPhone 6 (T-mobile version purchased from Apple Store) works with a European SIM card?

Can anyone confirm 100% that an iPhone 6 ("contract free" T-mobile version purchased from Apple Store) works with a European SIM card? Has anyone tried it yet? Lots of speculation so far, but no concrete answers yet. Thanks!

    Perhaps and perhaps not.
The T-Mobile phone comes with a T-Mobile sim card inserted, so what you need to do is take that sim card out of the phone without activating it and insert the sim card that you want to use in the phone and then activate it.  The phone should and might work then, but only on 2g and 3g - due to the frequency differences you won't be able to get 4g/LTE on the phone.
Remember if you do this you won't have warranty cover for the phone either - if you buy in the US, then its only valid for the US and no other country.

  • WillVerizon unlock an Apple 4S for use with a European SIM card? If so, how do you get it done?

I need to travel to Europe next month and would like to just buy a European SIM card while there.

Yes, just call Verizon Global Support at 800-711-8300 and tell them you want to unlock your device for international use. I believe you must be a Verizon customer for at least 60 days and be in good standing.
To complete the unlock, you will need wifi access or be connected to iTunes when you insert the foreign sim (the iPhone does not use unlock codes like other devices). I would recommend purchasing an empty European sim on ebay for a few dollars to verify the unlock before traveling to Europe. You only need wifi/iTunes for the initial unlock, after that you can just pop in any foreign sim.

  • Can I use my iPhone 3Gs in Japan with a Japanese Sim-Card?

    Hi there,
three years ago I've been to Japan for an exchange study program and at that time I had a HTC but as far as I remember, since Japanese people didn't have Sim-Cards, I had to buy a brand-new Softbank's mobile phone.
So since I got another scholarship for Kyoto, I was wondering if something has been changing in these last three year and if I could eventually use my Italian iPhone 3Gs by inserting a Softbank o AU or Docomo's Sim-Card.
Thank you in advance for your precious help and sorry for my poor English

    Hello
You can only use your 3Gs in another country if it is NOT locked to an Italian carrier Or
you can get it unlocked if it is so restricted
I assume someone with knowledge of the Japanese market can comment on the availability of a suitable sim but your iPhone must be unlocked before you can use another carrier's sim

  • Can I use a CDMA (VZ) iPhone 6 with a GSM SIM card outside the US?

I'm planning on purchasing my first iPhone--a 6. I'm debating between Verizon (VZ) and AT&T and understand that VZ uses CDMA and AT&T uses GSM. I'm hoping to have a phone which I could use a local wireless carrier's GSM SIM card outside the US if I'm traveling. I've done this with unlocked GSM phones in the past and would like that option in the future--but I'm wondering if I were to get a VZ (CDMA) phone if that'd be possible? Likewise, if one's outside the US do you have to use an unlocked phone for a local wireless carriers's GSM SIM to work?
Thanks in advance for your response!

    That is correct.
AT&T will unlock a device under the following circumstances:
The person requesting the unlock code must be one of the following:
    A current AT&T customer
A former AT&T customer who can provide the phone number or account number for the account
The AT&T Mobile Device was designed for use on the AT&T wireless network.
The AT&T Mobile Device has been paid for in full.
The AT&T Mobile Device has not been reported lost or stolen.
You're allowed the following number of device unlocks:
Current customers are allowed up to five device unlocks per account, per year.
Former customers are allowed a total of five device unlocks per former account.

    Yes, No problem at all.
Want to give one to wife.do I need to open a new iTunes account for her?
No - you can share the same iTunes account (my wife and I share the same account). But when you sync the iPads, just remember to select the correct content for her iPad and the correct content for your iPad.

  • I got an iphone from Hong Kong which is locked one. Can anyone explain me what does a locked iphone means. How do I use it in India now, with my own sim card. How do I unlock it???

If your iPhone is locked to a wireless provider, only that wireless provider
can unlock it. Contact the wireless provider in Hong Kong to see if they
offer unlocking and if you qualify.
If your iPhone is locked to an AppleID that you do not know, return it for
a refund as it is useless. Only the person whose AppleID was used for
activation can remove the lock. There is no workaround for Activation Lock.
If neither of the above is what you are facing, provide more detail so someone
    may offer a solution.

  • How do i set up my pre owned iphone 4 with my giffgaff sim card that was used in my iphone 3gs

how do i set up my pre owned iphone 4 with my giffgaff sim card that i have been using in my iphone 3gs
My 3Gs is on its last legs.... I've just bought a second hand iphone 4 which is unlocked......I put my giffgaff sim card in the new phone and it says activation required ......then it asks me for a passcode???  PLEASE HELP!!!! I have no idea what to do xx

You need to connect the phone to iTunes and then try activating it from there and restoring it as new.
If you have further problems and especially as the iPhone you have bought is second hand, it could be that it is not unlocked.  Are you sure that it is?  If not, then you'll need to speak to the person that you purchased it from.
