Using N96 as a MP3 Player.
Hi, I have a N96 that i would like to use via my car stereo as a MP3 player, the car has a USB port that i can connect the Phone to via the cable that came with the phone,is this possible? any ideas?
Check your car stereo's user guide for USB media as how it wants the folders/directories and files laid out.
Once your files are structured so that the car stereo can handle it, and you have the files in a suitable audio format (it might not be able to play MP3s at all bitrates, for example), then connecting the phone in USB mass storage (data transfer) mode should be enough.
Note also that the car stereo might be expecting to see only one drive, so if you have also a memory card inside the phone, I don't know what happens in that case as then you'd see two (the internal mass memory as well as the memory card). Check your car stereo docs for that, too, or just try with and without a memory card.

Using a non-iPod MP3 player with iTunes??
i have some other brand MP3 player (not iPod). how do i make it show up in my iTunes so i can drag and drop songs into this MP3 player? or can i not? it just shows up like a hard drive on my desktop now.thanks.
Sorry, but you probably can't. Other than an iPod, iTunes has only ever supported a handful of other players, and I believe all of them have been discontinued. So unless your player's manufacturer offers an iTunes plugin, you'll probably have to use your player's software (or whatever method it uses to load tracks).

Using a different brand MP3 player in iTunes??
i have some other brand MP3 player (not iPod). how do i make it show up in my iTunes so i can drag and drop songs into this MP3 player? or can i not? it just shows up like a hard drive on my desktop now.thanks.
There are a limited number of other players that will show up in iTunes for Mac but apart from the phones from Motorola none can play content from the iTunes Music Store. The Creative Zen Nano Plus is one that does connect and that you can drag tracks to from within iTunes. However yours may not be one of the few compatible models. Apple haven't updated the compatibility list for years, this is the only one I could find: iTunes for Mac OS X: Compatible Players

Using iTunes on different mp3 player
I have a Dell DJ, which I like, and which uses mp3 format. I want to use the iTunes store for downloads, but can't figure out how to download as or convert them into mp3. If there's no way to do it, I can't use iTunes. Any advice?
ThanksSince you are allowed to burn these tracks from the iTunes store to an audio cd, why not do that?
That audio CD can be used in the same way that you use any other purchased CD. -
Using automator to add songs to an .mp3 player
I'm using a non-iPod .mp3 player. iTunes recognizes it as a "device" and I am able to add/remove songs manually in iTunes. It can only play select .mp3 files so I have created a "smart playlist" in iTunes that only contains the files my player can play. I have over 20GB of music, most of which is from a friend and is unfamiliar to me. I've been using shuffle to randomly select songs to put on there, but it takes time and effort to manually select the files, delete them from the player, and add new ones. I want to automate it so that random .mp3's are added to the player whenever i connect the device and iTunes is open.
Thanks for that tip.
I found what the problem was (kind of) ...
When I tried to delete the songs that shouldn't be there, the delete function wouldn't work. When I pressed the button for "delete file", instead of deleting the file, it would take me to the first song which I didn't want to delete.
What I did in the end was:
* I chose the first song (which was meant to be there).
* I chose "Delete everything" ---> This time the delete function worked properly and the disk was wiped empty.
* I then added all the songs I wanted individually again to the mp3 player.
* I checked the mp3 player after adding the desired songs --- all the undesired songs had disappeared (unlike last time when they were still on the mp3 player even after I had removed them using the hard drive of my computer to open the mp3 player and delete the songs).
The problem was that the delete function didn't work properly when I was trying to delete the undesired songs (that weren't meant to be there as I had taken them to the Trash on my hard drive).
I might try your suggestion next time. I presume you mean empty the Trash on my mac. My mp3 player doesn't have a Trash folder (not that I can see anyway). -
Mp3 player not recognized. (Vision: M 60
Hello.
I am using Win XP MCE. I just installed all the drivers that came with the CD. I had the MP3 player unplugged as instructed, and connected it at the point it asked me to. It is plugged into a port I know works, because it is the one I used for my old MP3 player.
Anyone know how to solve this issue? Are you getting the following error message?
"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
I've been getting this message for months and nothing seems to fix the issue.
I even tried
http://mycreativefansite.googlepages.com/myzenchecker_home.html
And their program said I was running the latest version of XP, but for some reason the drivers won't recognize. -
I have copied my CDs into iTunes (currently running v11) to play on my iPod. I have now bought a non Apple mp3 player to use when I am out running. How can I copy the many tracks I want from iTunes onto the new player?
ThanksI tried Notpod but can't get it to work. Part of the problem, I suspect, is that I can't create a folder on my player (a SanDisk Clip+). I also can't do this in Windows Explorer. Whilst I can see the Clip+ in Explorer, the option to create a new folder isn't there.
The error mesag I get in Notpod is:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit the application will close immediately.
InvalidArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'SelctedIndex'. Parameter name: SelectedIndex"
Then, when I plug the Clip+ into a USB port, iTunes thinks it is my iPad - which is because, I guess, Notpod hasn't worked.
I can drag and drop files from the Music folder where my iTunes tracks are stored onto the Clip+ and they get converted but I'd rather synchronise a Playlist from iTunes if I can.
Thanks anyone who can help -
How can I use Iphone 4 as an mp3 player without a sim card until I get one?
Hi,
How can I use Iphone 4 as an mp3 player without a sim card until I get one? I just bought the phone and each time I try to switch it on to use the mp3 player, I cannot. It asks me to insert a sim card and I don't have a sim card yet. I was thinking I could use the mp3 player function of my phone until I buy a sim card.
Thank you for your help in advance,Thank you, I understand, yeah, I knew that, my phone is factory unlocked and I am going home, which is obviously not in the States and I am thinking of buying a local carrier there. However, I still have 2 weeks before I leave and cannnot wait to start using my Iphone 4. I thought at least I could use the mp3 player function. So as far as I understand, I cannot activate it without a sim card. I have been using metropcs for about two years and it does not have a sim card. In this case, do I really not have another choice but wait for two weeks to listen to music? My Mp3 player just failed me and I really need to listen to music but on the other hand, while I can use my iphone as an mp3 player in two weeks, I don't want to spend more money on a new one. So, do you have another suggestion? For instance, can I use a friend's sim card to activate mine? Would this cause any trouble, when I go home and buy a local carrier? I think these questions might kinda sound weird to you, but first time with an Iphone, extremely excited to start using under my circumstances, I need help thanks,

Using plain old mp3 player with iTunes on Mac
Hi all,
I want to use a plain, old USB MP3 player (mass storage-type) with iTunes on my Mac (OS X 10.4.x). I asked this question over on the Windows iTunes forum at
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1264196&tstart=0
and wondered if there's anything that'll work on the Mac.
In Windows, I basically have resorted to drag-n-drop from the iTunes window to a Windows Explorer window showing the USB MP3 player as a removable drive, or to using iTunes Agent (http://ita.sourceforge.net), which is a Windows-only solution.
What's the solution on Mac OS X?
Thanks,
MatthewI think a universal "none" is probably a bit presumptuous. If you're able to get music onto the player in Windows via drag and drop, I see no reason why that won't work on the Mac as well, provided that your Mac can recognize the drive. I would imagine it can, as I've never come across a PC formatted drive that my Mac didn't recognize.
There is also a freeware application called XNJB that apparently works as an interface between a Mac and a Creative MP3 player. I haven't used either, so can't vouch for them at all.
Just that like I said, a universal "none" is probably a bit presumptuous. -
I forgot to charge my Creative Zen mp3 player fully before first using it
I forgot to charge my Creative Zen mp3 player fully before first using it, and started syncing music onto it while it was charging for the first time. How much damage do you think this would have caused, and is there anything I can do to correct my mistake? Thanks.
I didn't fully charge my player the first time I used it and it works fine. The battery life seems to be on par with everyone else's. Also if you just plugged it into the computer and started syncing music you don't have anything to worry about. Even though you were syncing music you were still charging and not depleting the battery. I think the recommendation means that you don't "use" the player meaning unplug it from your computer with only a half charge and then run the battery out. Anyways, your player will be just fine.

Cannot unmount mp3 player using thunar
Hi,
When I try to unmount my mp3 player using thunar, it doesn't unmount it (No problems with normal usb memories). When I fuser on it, after I tried unmount it, there seems to be like 10 processes using it. When I force quit them with
fuser -m /dev/sdc --kill
I return to terminal (jumping from X) and see a page full of errors. I can return to X with ctrl+alt+f7. My mp3 player is this: "Philips GoGear SA2RGA02SN RaGa 2GB"
I am using xfce4, with all group + xfce4-utils installed. I don't use login manager, my xinitrc and .bash_profile is as follows:
.bash_profile wrote:
[[ -f ~/.bashrc ]] && . ~/.bashrc
startx
.xinitrc wrote:if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
[ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
done
unset f
fi
exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch xfce4-session
So, I was wondering what is the problem, and is there a way to make is work normally.
Last edited by yasar11732 (2011-07-07 21:11:53)I realized that fuser -m /dev/sdc gives all processes owned by me at that moment. For example, it give me a list of processes that corresponds to this:

Using an MP3 player with iTunes
We have two iPods and my daughter has a Samsung MP3 player. Now that music on iTunes 8 can be played on other digital music players (not iPods), how do you actually get the music from iTunes onto the MP3 player? Do I have to burn it to a CD first?

That is two different questions. If the Samsung can handle AAC files, then you can use iTunes Plus purchases on it. (iTunes 8 has nothing to do with it.)
As far as loading the songs, iTunes cannot be used for any player other than an iPod. For best advice, read the instructions that came with the Samsung. -
Using multiple MP3 Player With iTunes
I'm new to iTunes and have a Sansa MP3 player that I want to give my young son. I would then buy an iPod for myself. Can I transfer songs back and forth to multiple MP3 players (not necessarly iPods) from my PC without purchasing the same song again? In other words, once I buy a song, can I sync it to multiple palyers?
Content purchased from the iTunes Store is in a protected AAC format except for EMI songs, which are unprotected AAC songs. Neither format will work on an MP3 player without being converted; see here for instructions on converting an unprotected song.
A song can be synced from the iTunes library to any handheld player capable of using that format without needing to purchase it again.

Anyone use an MP3 player besides an Apple?
Aloha,
I am thinking of buying a Sandisk Sansa Fuze or Clip+.
I love my iMac but want to try a new MP3 player with better sound quality.
Please share your experiences.
Mahalo! :]]]The SanDisk players use Windows Media Player to take the place of iTunes (for interfacing with an palyer). It seems like you will be able load it manually, by dragging and dropping files using Finder, but you will not be able to do all the things iTunes does for you, such download media, manage media, and create playlists.
Also, according to the specs, it does not play the non-proprietary AAC format. Many other non-Apple players can play unprotected AAC (which is the audio component of the open MPEG-4 format), but I do not see AAC listed in the supported formats for those SanDisk players. iTunes can obviously rip to and play MP3, but if your library has AAC encoded files (which Apple favors), you'll have to convert or re-encode them.
